these are all much more in the silly short n sweet genre (compared to my usual love for long drawn out canon tweaks) given how the franchise works but i adore them :) here’s a handful in no particular order

took our time and the time has flown series, first poke fic i ever read at the recommendation of my hardcore pokeani fan friend ann. it’s awesome

a duo of pikachu & meowth fics: Venting and don’t be like that both by LeDiz, huge recommendation for all their work - they also do a lot of alola stuff i think you’ll enjoy more than me considering i haven’t actually watched it yet lol

some pikachu pov fics: Gonna be a winner, the long way home (bookmark note: pikachu’s lost days)

i don’t know why i am the way i am series, long and incredible and very much in the alola vibe but covers a lot of ground exploring a take on ash i really like

Into the Pokemedia, huge lore dump of inuniverse battle fan culture disguised as a social media fic with ash’s accomplishments being recognized . goes so hard

single best battle fic i’ve ever read: Legendary Defense, ash defending the alola champion title from a certain someone. manages to go EVEN HARDER. doubly fun bc the author wrote a satirical version of these two battling as part of a larger fic mocking fic fanon stereotypes just a year before and i adore that they apparently enjoyed it so much they did it for real

probably my favorite of all: a champion’s path, speedrunning alola league registration AND well written battles, very much a WIP but you can see i adore league worldbuilding and champion stuff. sue me

these crooked little things ace ash real to me. incredible fic

gentle, immediately postXY fic about pikachu haterisms and protectiveness. i love it so much, other top five for me

Pokemon TCG Pocket hates me specifically.

A bold claim I know. I would dare say this game hates many people. This is not a post about late stage capitalism or Gacha. This is about a deep personal slight.

So I have been a casual consumer of TCG Pocket up until around the release of Shining Revelry. By this point I was doing pretty good, had no interest in the paid stuff but just vibin. Enjoying the cards I pulled, got enough hits. I saw my friends fretting over getting the special arts of their favorite Pokemon in Gen 1 and 4 and I did not care. I got the Illustration Serperior and at that point that was enough...

So for the people who know me. I'm Bee! I go by Bee, I have a Bee hat on my sona and in real life. I have bee plushies. I like the bee association. It makes me happy. (Hapbee?). To the point I had a deck in Pocket that was Beedrill Vespiquen! I had fun with it.

AND THEN THE TRAILER DROPS AND I SEE IT.

And suddenly. I am no longer a casual enjoyer of anything. I am Ahab, and this lime green whale stands before me. A glimmering challenge in the dark. I had to have it. For the branding! For the vibes! For the BIT.

I still do not own a Shiny Beedrill in Pokemon TCG Pocket. I told my friends that the only thing that would keep me from ignoring set A3 before it released was if somehow the Pokemon Company and DeNA decided to be cruel heartless bastards and make the next set about my favorite region in Pokemon the Alol- OH COME FUCKING ON

So...I didn't have a violet color, which is why Vio's tunic and such probably looks weird. I had to put some of reds, pinks, and purples together to try to get the right color, lol. Anyways, here ya go✨

(I've only ever drawn one Pokemon before, and so I'm sorry if it looks terrible, lol. And also hands aren't a thing today rn which is why Vio doesn't have a hand. 👍)

I talked with a friend at LENGTH about how insane I am about Meowth as a concept in Pokémon a few days back and it’s been sitting in my head but like.

I’m pretty sure it’s all stuff that’s already been said.

I always thought that the Ultra Recon Squad vanishing from the plot in USUM after the Team Rainbow Rocket postgame arc happens was a little weird and super noticeable.

Surely for a squad dedicated to exploring and studying alternate dimensions, a guy with his own pocket portal opener stealing villains from across the multiverse, (villains that ACCOMPLISHED THEIR GOALS and caused apocalypses in their home dimensions by the way!) in order to create a team with the goal of conquering the multiverse, that sort of thing is right up their alley and they could have easily intervened by having their Solgaleo and Lunala yeet them back to where they came from.

But then I figured, the reason why the Ultra Recon Squad sat this one out is because Team Rainbow Rocket decided to attack Aether Paradise, aka the organisation ran by Lusamine.

You know, Lusamine, the woman who promised them that she'd help them save their home dimension and stop Necrozma from destroying both Ultra Megalopolis and Alola. The same Lusamine that thoroughly BETRAYED THEM and Leeroy Jenkins-ed herself into the portal without telling them and fucked up so badly that she put potentially billions of lives at risk and nearly destroyed two entire civilisations.

To be fair, Rainbow Rocket was attacking Miss "I sure do like endangering your entire alien culture" Lusamine and her secret evil island lair, so I think the Ultra Recon Squad would be forgiven for not feeling overly encouraged to go help.

The second reason is because the URS saw that the Protagonist was on his/her way to help, the one who defeated their god with a magic singing fairy seal, and probably thought "Yeah, he/she's got this covered."

He's very flexible. Extremely so. It's terrifying to see. This also explains how he's able to keep up with his Pokemon with special training and all that (or at least, it partially explains it). The worst part is that this was before the whole Greninja bond buisiness, so they can't even blame it on Pokemon reflexes/possible anatomy changes or anything. He's either been a contortist in a past life/journey or he's got some hypermobility (he just thinks that he's just good at following what other Pokemon do) (it's not that simple, Ash!) (well, let me know when you've spent hours of your days watching Caterpie climb up trees!)

16. Deepest darkest secret they won’t even admit to themselves

That's he's actively burning out. He doesn't really understand it at the start, but as he keeps pushing himself harder and harder throughout the Gym Challenge Ash starts to feel a little weaker tired not enough. He doesn't want to accept it though, so he'll push it out of his brain. After all, out of sight, out of mind, right? He'll be better soon. He just needs some more time (and practice and strength and focus and).

Physical contact! It's a strange one, but then again, this is Ash were talking about. He loves to wrap his hands around his friends and lean on them or be leaned on, just the sheer feeling of proximity makes him feel a lot more relaxed and happier. The guilty part is when he knows he's doing it for a smidgen (re: a lot) longer than usual but he can't just stop! That's his comfy place now!

37. What they really think about themselves

Ash thinks that... he can be a Pokemon Master someday. That he can be a Champion as long as he puts his mind to it and works with his Pokemon well. That he's becoming more mature now, that he's becoming stronger now, that one day he'll finally make it. Just as long as he tries his best.

Ash thinks he still has a long way to go. But it's alright, because he knows how this path goes. He's went down it countless times before. He's just got to be the best, and then everything else will fall into place. It has to.

48. Scariest moment of their life

Feeling Pikachu die in his hands after getting hit by Yveltal's beam. Even in the Crisis he had at least some help, some chance, his words and his will, but in that moment... feeling his buddy fade away right when the problem was going to be resolved with no hope in sight, nothing he could do, nothing that could change that moment...

It made him feel truly powerless in that moment.
