Alnwick castle

Alnwick Castle is located in the town of Alnwick in Northumberland, England. Built in the 11th century following the Norman conquest. The castle has been renovated and remodeled numerous times throughout its long history. Alnwick Castle has served as a military outpost, a college, a refuge for evacuees, a film set, and a family home. The Percy family has owned it for over 700 years. The 12th Duke of Northumberland, Ralph Percy, inherited the dukedom in 1995. The interior boasts a chapel, a library, and State Rooms decorated in the Italian Renaissance style with gilded ceilings, silk wall coverings, and collections of art from 16th century Old Masters like Titian, Palma il Vecchio, and Sir Anthony Van Dyck. The castle has exhibitions in three perimeter towers, a courtyard café, a restaurant, a gift shop, and two interactive family areas called Knight’s Quest and Dragon Quest. The castle was used in the Harry Potter films, as well as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and more. The castle is open to the public in the summer.  Photo credit: Will Pryce
