Almuth Schult has the full german state media propaganda. She still works for them as far as I'm aware. I just read an article about the Kansas City vs. Gotham match, where they wrote that Schult is the main keeper for Kansas, while Berger just gets a lot of playing time at Gotham. It's a bit ridiculous at this point. Berger is in contention for NWSL goalkeeper of the year, while Schult hasn't done anything impressive up to this point if you actually watched the games. She has like four matches at this point, and that is only because Franch was ridiculously bad. She hasn't played for a long time before that. If Schult gets called up in favour of any of Johannes, Grohs, or Mahmutovic, I will get really pissed.
yea it's weird how you certain players just have a holdover on the program

It's crazy that ARD Sportschau put out an article with a paragraph saying there is still an open door for Almuth Schult as if that's something that the coach was putting any importance on. He wouldn't even have talked about her if nobody had asked. Of course, he's not going to say we don't want her. She was a part of the team for far too long to just completely ignore her. But this obsession, which obviously stems from her own desire to be still mentioned in the context of the national team and using her connections for that, makes me really uneasy. It's not as if she's needed. Her performances in the playoffs and the last matches before were not good. A lot of mistakes that, luckily for her, didn't get punished all the time or with the help of some flimsy rules. Her playing style fits Kansas City Current but not really the system the coach played in the last friendlies. I'm thankful for all that she's done for the national team but I have to say I personally don't want her back and taking a spot from a younger keeper would be not warranted at all. She's also the only player that Sportschau is so obsessed with, no other player gets the same treatment. I'm sorry to say that but it makes me dislike her which is probably unfair but it's just too obvious that she uses her media connections.
I don't understand it either. I have great respect for what Almuth has done for the NT, but I would find it strange to nominate her again. Wück said that he wants Ann back for the Nations League and he will probably nominate Stina and Ena/Sophia again. Ann is 34. Stina, Ena and Sophia are in their early to mid 20s. Why should he nominate Schult, who is also 33 and hasn't played for the NT in over two years. Preferring them over the younger ones would be something I couldn't understand.

Pretty random i guess but here comes a woso prediction of mine for next year’s season because i just need to say this :)
I really believe that the German Bundesliga is going to get more international. Right now there aren’t that many international players playing at a German club (well yes, there are a few but not as many as in other countries’ clubs e.g. in England, Spain, France etc. and even if so there are only players from a small number of countries playing here - i hope you know what i mean). But with more and more international signings at clubs from other countries besides the Netherlands and Scandinavian countries from where there are already a few footballers playing here (which i ofc love to see!) as well, the biggest probably being Georgia joining Bayern last summer, i think the option for other players to join a German club becomes way more attractive than it might have been before.
I totally see more players from e.g. the UK or other countries from even outside of Europe joining a Bundesliga club next season (because, as i know of, there are not many footballers who play in Germany and come from another continent - the exception proves the rule). Especially for Bayern (with them performing so well both in the league as well as internationally as they beat Barcelona and Arsenal) i sense an even more international future coming and probably a lot more exciting new signings in the summer.
The same goes the other way around as well! Right now, not many German players play outside of Germany since most of them play for a Bundesliga club. Only 4 players from Germany playing in international leagues/clubs actually come to my mind rn: AKB, Melanie Leupolz, Sara Däbritz and Almuth Schult. On one hand i think it‘s nice that so many of the players decide to stay in Germany and play in the Bundesliga since it kind of makes it more personal, on the other hand i can also see the potential for more players performing in international leagues and for other clubs in other parts of Europe/the world.
Anyways, let‘s see :D

Of course to get degraded is hard, but what should the players say, who aren't even called up annymore like Laura Benkarth wjo lost her third gk spot to AKB at the beginning of AKB's NT career or Almuth Schulth who lost her number 1 spot to Merle Frohms. AKB never complained thst she was the number 3 or 2.
Of course it's not the same, Schult or Benkarth were never bitter. Merle schould take this as motivation to get her spot back.
Yeah and ann and Almuth learned to take a big part in the team well-being and team spirit they were both important behind the scenes
But Merle has to and will learn that
She was never benched for a long time in her career and we can’t forget that Merle too is very good and will prob work even harder now to get her spot back

Of course Jess is not pleased. AKB is her better half and then they posted Almuth Schult.
I know. But unfortunately the issue is bigger. How are women supposed to get better recognition from possible spectators when even FIFA cant do their job right... This expands to the sponshorship with Visit Saudi... Like who thought THAT was a good idea. Like yeah, you get the money BUT do you really want to support a country that could get soooo many women players killed just because who they love... Like damn.

AKB is not a bubble player. Almuth Schult is taking a time off and hasn't played or trained since her contract was expired. I think AKB is safe.
that's your opinion, mine differs :) germany has a lot of quality goalkeepers and I just don't think mvt will keep taking a 30+ year old backups to tournaments. and akb will never not be a backup barring a disastrous injury to merle and possibly one or two others

It's so interesting that Stina Johannes recently did an interview stating she wants to become the german number one once AKB retires from the NT. Because what I read between the lines there is that AKB is the clear number one and there is literally not even a thought of Almuth Schult returning, which I would say is absolutely valid. When the DFB talks about the keeper situation they never mention her either and just say we have AKB who is extremely experienced and then we have a bunch of talented young keepers we are trying to integrate and help gain more international experience. It just shows that Schults ARD connections really made her a potential comeback keeper prospect in, admittedly, just a few media outlets. Maybe the plan was to get journalists to ask about her in press conferences to get her back into the conversation but that hasn't happened yet because journalists are not interested in her aside from like Sportschau
oh interesting. yea seems like akb at least going into the euros in the #1

Ann didn't have any rest since April. Add to that the crazy travelling that comes with playing in the NWSL and that this league is so competitive that every game has to be played at full concentration, I fully understand the desire for a break. It was a crazy year for her not only from a football perspective but also on a personal level. Maybe the coach didn't even plan to use her in the games because these are the last two friendlies and so it was the perfect time for a break. It's best to give the young keepers opportunities when the stakes aren't high.
As a side note, I find it interesting that Almuth Schult really isn't even on the radar at this point, which is completely valid. She isn't even 5th choice and they have enough talented young keepers that there is really no need at all for her. She would solve no problem and only add new ones. She had her time. It's important to look towards the future. I also don't think her playing style is desirable for the DFB. It's very outdated and doesn't fit the higher defensive line and press the new coach seems to prefer.
I undetstand it too. Wück said in his press conference that AKB fell's tired and that's why she wanted a break, but Wück also said that he wants her back for the Nations League next year.
