I have just completed reading "Almost Adulting" by Arden Rose. It was so therapeutic. Written so casually. I found it a comfort read. It was a feel-good read. I literally liked how she addressed the society and body image and the concept what "beautiful" is. The book reads somewhat like a memoir but with some very valid insight and guidance to adulthood. Life can be so unfair sometimes but what we can do is go with the flow with grace and faith.

Almost Adults

I believe that Almost Adults is one of the most relatable movies.

It’s a platonic love story about two life long best friends struggling to keep their friendship together as their lives head in different directions.

During the movie, we see that one of the main characters Mackenzie (Elise Bauman), is facing difficulties with her best friend Cassie (Natasha Negovanlis) as she hasn’t come out to her yet. 

I think that it’s a feeling we all have - we think that things will change after we come out, our friends will not look at us the same way again and the most important thing: the fear of losing your friendship with that person.

It analyses more the big role of the friendship and not the usual love relationship as we are used to watching in lesbian romantic comedies.

The movie was directed by Sarah Rotella and written by Adrianna DiLonardo.

They are the creators of the Shorty Award Nominated YouTube channel Unsolicited Project with 420,000+ subscribers and 130+ million YouTube views.

In this brilliant women's fiction, we follow the lives of 4 amazing women, Edele, Mackie, Nat and Alex, each chapter narrated by one of the four. Very close friends, we see them all struggle with life that is the '20s' but with the beautiful support from each other. This book had me laughing and crying, smiling from ear to ear to anger. I absolutely loved it. Each of the women are individual and we can see this very well through their own separate narration. I didn't feel that there was a dull moment in the book. I have to say, reading books that have been written quite recently, I love how climate change, equal rights, feminism etc are all incorporated into the writing, which I never saw when I was reading when I was younger. I love how these things are becoming normal! Mental health was handled really well, with Nat going to therapy, and dealing with her hateful inner voice. Mackie, not needing a relationship to be happy but following her career. Ed still living with her family at 27. Alex normalising questioning her relationship and whether forever is what she wants. This is a beautiful book that focuses on 4 strong women and their amazing friendship.
