7 Dope Years

Yesterday I celebrated seven years of marriage with my beautiful wife. It’s been a roller coaster of a ride. I feel extremely fortunate, having so many friends divorced or yet to find their partner. I never doubted we would make it here but I feel blessed we have managed to stay the course. We’ve been through so much together. Both good and bad. We’ve lived in Virginia, Louisiana, and Florida. We’ve both obtained our degrees and made tremendous progress in our careers. We have made friends all over the country that we intend to remain close to for the rest of our lives. We created two of the most beautiful human beings both inside and out. As my good friend Frizz would say, “it hasn’t been all Louis Vuitton and scarves”. I’ve said and done some irresponsible things and Elz hasn't been my favorite person every second of these seven years. We’ve had our ups and downs but there is no one I’d rather have them with. I owe a great deal of our marital determination to our parents. They are two of the dopest couples I know. Ellen’s parents have been married for 38 years and mine have been going strong for 33 years. They have paved the way for how I approach marriage and parenting. They showed me you can be an asset in your workplace, expertly raise children, and have a good damn time while doing it. In the last few weeks I have seen my father-in-law post about doing an open mic night. More recent than that I’ve seen footage of my dad doing the shiggy challenge to Drake. Our parents have set an amazing example of how to enjoy life and have a thriving marriage. Thank you to them, my children, and my beautiful bride for making my life DOPE!
