You're completely and entirely missing the point, and frankly this sort of comment is part of the problem that lands cats in shelters. Nowhere in my post did I say anything about the validity of the belief that two kittens do better. Nor did I say people wanted "cheap easy cats." What I said was that I have a major issue with rescues or anyone misrepresenting cost and labor involved. Try reading the post more carefully next time. Telling potential adopters "ohhh, they're FUN! They are not much more expensive uwu!" and trying aggressively to push people to adopt more cats than they can handle is irresponsible. Period. Inexcusably irresponsible. And I have seen rescues do that more times than I can count. Also, given the costs of senior care for cats, diabetes, kidney disease, need for dental (which requires bloodwork and anesthesia) and all the other things that can happen, it's also disingenuous to say adult cats don't cost as much money. Each cat needs the same amount of care and food, supplies, insurance, etc. The second and third cats don't come at a discount for those things. When someone says "I can afford one," they can afford one. Take them at their word. If that means your rescue doesn't give them a kitten, cool. That's what it means. Say "thanks, good luck" and let the person go elsewhere.

It should not mean the rescue aggressively tries to push off another kitten on someone who has already told you they don't want one by lying to them about the costs. Otherwise you are part of the problem.

One thing I wish people would stop doing: Please do not try to talk people into adopting pets.  Please don’t.  I can’t get a dog - I have two cats, a very small apartment and limited funds. And as much as I love dogs, I’m way more of a cat person. Even if I did have a larger place, I don’t think I’d have the energy or focus to care for three animals at once. I don’t think I’d have the energy to take a dog out for walks several times a day. I once had a conversation with a guy who waved that away and repeatedly insisted that I should get a small dog and that “it wouldn’t be that much money.”  I’ve heard people with rescues blithely tell potential adopters that they should get two kittens because “they don’t cost much more than one cat, and it allows us to save more animals from being put to sleep in the shelters.”  We all want to see those babies find their forever homes, but you don’t do that through coercion, guilt or downplaying the costs of time, energy and money. Being a pet parent is a huge deal. Every animal has to go to the vet. Every animal needs food and supplies. Many need a petsitter if you ever need to be away overnight. Some animals need to be walked several times a day. Some need a lot more space than others. Some need to be fed diets that may make some people squeamish. Some need to be groomed regularly or have nail trimmed. Some need to have water or tanks constantly monitored to make sure they are habitable. You need to know these details before you adopt a pet.  If someone knows in advance that they can’t take on one or several of those responsibilities, and realizes they would not be able to properly care for a specific sort of pet - that is a good thing, IMHO. It’s a hell of a lot better than someone adopting a pet because they’ve been talked into it, and then finding out that they can’t handle it, at the animal’s expense.

And today we're going with the common sparrow (Passer domestics). I'm going with this one because, believe it or not, the hedge sparrow, despite being a related species that's extremely visually similar, has approximately seven billion names in Welsh and I only have ten poll entries. So here we go!

The etymology of some of these is VERY HARD and triggered quite the rabbit hole on my part so I hope you're all grateful

Sbrocsyn: if you chase it allllll the way back, you land on proto-indo-European spḗr, meaning... well. Sparrow. But in some subsequent languages it became starling (e.g. Dutch) and in one case crow (Breton), so I've translated it here as bird. The -syn ending gives it a cute little diminutive vibe

Aderyn y to: Wales used to go in for thatched roofs in a big way, and the sparrows liked to live in them

Aderyn llwyd y to: Someone was feeling descriptive and wordy

Cainc y to: Why?? Is it a branch??? This one is odd. Maybe referring to the roof beams?

Golfan: very hard to translate!!! It looks like the original is the Old Irish 'golbann', but it's impossible to find a confirmed etymology. Using my knowledge of Welsh and my miniscule memory of Irish, bright woman is the best I can do (geal + bean). But it has cognates in the other Celtic languages - gealbhann, gealbhonn, gialloon, golvan.

Strew: another difficult one, but this looks like a loanword from the same place as English straw and strew, referring to the grains of the crops. Which they eat.

Llwytyn: from llwyd, meaning grey, with the diminutive ending. They are mostly grey, 'tis true

Gwelltyn: from gwellt, meaning straw, with the diminutive ending. Another roof reference

Get comfy because I'm about to explain allllll my utter bullshit. I threw together some images to go along with this explanation as well!

TLDR: Worms in my AU retain more features from their wild counterparts than others, including women having a heavily padded chest since they're the ones jumping around above ground and that's what they'd land on.

THE LONG EXPLAINATION BELOOOWWWWWW LETS FUCKING GO!

OKAY SO! To start off this explanation we need a basic understanding of how the evolution works in my AU. In my AU there are domestic animals, and wild animals. Domestic animals are what the characters are- anthropomorphic. They usually stand upright, usually have more humanoid features, and they're 'conscious' the same way humans are.

Wild animals are what those animals are actually like in, yknow, the real world. So a wild bird would just be a normal bird (for us.) A wild squirrel would be a normal squirrel, ect. ect.

In my AU, not all animals have a wild counterpart. There are a lot of animals who have zero wild counterparts, and the animal exists exclusively domestically. Most big land animals are like this- there's also a higher percentage of mammals that are exclusively domestic than any other kind of animal.

There are also loads of animals that do have wild counterparts! These animals are usually smaller. Birds, bugs, amphibians, small mammals, and fish- bugs and fish have the most few domestic groups, simply because of the environmental challenges.

Now, onto the worms specifically!! There are lots of different kinds of worms, but since this ask was specifically referring to Leshy, I'll be using his kind as the example.

In the AU, worms are one of, of not THE most genetically close wild/domestic category of animal in the world. This is because a wild worm and a domestic worm start out nearly the EXACT same! Of course- a worm with domestic parents starts out usually larger, with larger external limbs and a bigger brain, but they still both start out the same. Worms hatch underground and spend most of their early first few years almost completely burrowing. Worms are born with both arms and legs, but they're weak and usually don't get used much- they're also born with fuzzy, soft faces.

In a wild worm, as they age they lose the fur/foliage on their faces and it becomes tough and wood-like. They usually completely reabsorb their hind legs with age, usually keeping the front arms- but they're kinda like T-Rex arms, where they're more for decoration than anything.

In a domestic worm, in order to become domestic they kinda have to. BE domesticated. To achieve the bipedal form of an adult domestic worm, worms must be taught to walk on the hind legs, which builds muscle and bone mass- preventing them being reabsorbed. This process is usually guided by adult domestic worms, who track down the babies in the first stage. A fully grown domestic worm never loses the fur/foliage around the face, due to not burrowing constantly.

Of course, now you're thinking "okay okay, you've told us the difference between wild and domestic, and you've explained that both those kinds of worms are very close genetically, now why do they have boobs???"

And the answer is . They don't! Wild worms have bug-typical sexual dimorphism where the females are much larger than the males. In the wild, male worms tend to stay underground, burrowing, and you don't usually see them, while female worms traverse above ground- in the game they'd be the green worms you fight in darkwood. And, as you may know if you've played the game, those worms hop around after you, and land directly on their fronts. In wild worms, females have a heavily padded 'chest' area, designed to protect important internal organs from the full impact of landing.

This trait carried over to domestic worms!!! Men are usually shorter, with shorter tails, and women are usually taller with a longer tail and a heavily padded chest! They aren't boobs at all, simply a collection of fat tissues around the chest area. If worms were to evolve further away from their wild counterparts that trait would be one of the first to go, but for now it's socially considered a female trait!

So, when Leshy realized he was trans, he fucking . Took it out. On his own. And walked into Shamuras room covered in blood like it was no big deal, and mildly traumatized them because they thought he was dying or something.

Definitely bumped onto Jean-Paul/ Le Chèvre accidentally when he first got to the academy or got assigned to a project on Bellum's class

Considering that the students at the academy are quite literally orphans or heavily implied they are orphans, I'd like to believe that Antonio was taken care of his grandmother instead of his parents since they might've died already then the grandmother peacefully did so in her sleep as well after years of taking care of him which may have caused him to pickpocket to try and make a living for himself and one of the V.I.L.E. faculty members took note of this

He tried making friends in the academy but alot of the students were pretty much well kept to themselves. The first friend he might've had there was Graham or Jean-Paul, with Graham letting him join on the friendgroup or Jean-Paul trying to get to know him during lectures out of boredom

He's a good cook, but not exactly the most best which is why sometimes he watches videos on how to cook a certain dish (it ends up successfully delicious)

He is less likely to harm people unless he was ordered to during his days as a V.I.L.E. agent

Since V.I.LE. practically lovebomb their students, He has therapy appointments at least once a week because he wants to get out of his old habits of stealing

He and Jean-Paul are probably planning to travel around the world with just the two of them so I like to think they're earning legally to do so which explains their food truck

I don't really think he's as close as before with Graham, Sheena, and Carmen but I guess they're in good terms if we reconsider the canon ending of season four

He's absolutely GREAT with children even if they're a handful and he gets baby fever sometimes. One time, he encountered a toddler being lost when he was still selling taco's on the foodtruck with Jean-Paul so he gave the child some free taco before escorting them to the nearest police station himself (The parents found their child, thanking him then Antonio returned back with a bright smile plastered on his face)

He is an early bird compared to Jean-Paul (he has to wake him up and he gets a complaint in French from him)

Is absolutely gentle and sweet with both cats and dogs but I hc that Jean-Paul is allergic to animal fur so instead they got a Sphinx cat. I hc it's a female and Antonio named it "Catalina" but Jean-Paul wanted to name her "Catrina" (In the end, the cat just got used to being called by both names)

Listens to romantic songs or just classical music whenever he cooks (Jean-Paul complains about it only because he always puts it on full volume)

garden update || 10/25/24 🌿🏡🥰🌱

see that very nice-looking raised bed on the bottom right? THAT'S NEWWWW!!! i just set these two new raised beds up yesterday with a dear friend who's been staying the night over the past few days!! yippee!! 🎉 i've been showing this friend of mine how to garden and letting them learn in my backyard. we've only done flowering plants so far as well as planting dill & cilantro seeds -- so yesterday, i decided it was time to learn about crops!

we sowed seeds for walking egyptian onions, broccoli de cicco, dill, and cilantro; but i plan on also teaching them how to transplant so we'll also transplant in more kale, cabbage, and hopefully chinese pink celery! this'll be a very full & very productive raised bed, i hope!

i also have a few pictures of the progress in the greenhouse box!

the seedlings are all steadily coming along! i do need to sow a LOT more chinese pink celery seeds, so i'll do that once i finally get another bag of soil (i already need 2 more for potting houseplant props, 4 more for my last raised garden bed, and probably 2 more for future seedlings -- augh my budget is so fucked).

currently in the greenhouse box, i have 8 chinese pink celery, 15 cilantro, 3 copenhagen market cabbage, 3 blue-curled scotch kale, and 3 dill. (holy shit so much cilantro, they're going to be gifts for friends!!) i plan on transplanting the kale, cabbage, & pink celery all into the raised beds, i'm just waiting for them to grow up a bit more unfortunately.

i also have photos of some of the flowering plants in the raised beds from today! i use an app on my phone called planta to keep track of all my plants, and once a month, i like to upload photos & notes as a monthly plant progress report. it does get pretty daunting, seeing allllll the tasks that i have to do daily in the app, but i slowly make my way through it! i'm one of those people who just really likes recording & organizing stuff, especially hobbies like reading, gardening, writing, working out, et cetera. i've got apps/websites for most of them!

the butterfly milkweed, bee balm, and coneflowers are steadily going dormant for the cold seasons -- i really really hope they survive and thrive in the spring!!! i'm proud to say i've been a lot better about remembering to prune my chrysanthemums and they definitely look a lot happier (especially compared to last fall's mums)! that coleus is inevitably going to die off, i've accepted it since they're not really meant for outdoors especially in the ground. my lithodora is looking alright (hopefully will bloom again in the spring), my gerbera daisies are looking gorgeous, and the petunias are doing alright (yet are looking a bit... scattered, i suppose).

that's mostly it now for this garden update! i will say my zinnias are still going mighty strong, and i've been seeing soooo many bugs & critters in my tiny lil city suburb garden, and that makes me happy! the stray cats are mostly comfortable with me, the birds love their bird feeders, the squirrels keep taking shits in my raised beds (as well as this one stray cat i call cinnabun), and there's a regular praying mantis in my garden that i am lowkey terrified of (she's just so fucking huge i think she's cool and i respect her but damn she watches me steadily and it's freaky)!

i am potentially going to try to make an arch trellis in the garden with these camping tent poles that i want to repurpose, so maybe that'll be my next big thing? or i do still want to do another greenhouse box once my budget is not as tight (although that's looking like not anytime soon unfortunately) -- we'll see in the future!!

Of all the difficult choices in each season of TWDG, What would say are the ones that you struggled with the most for each season?

HMM good question. there are some choices i feel conflicted about when i get to them but these are for the most part the ones that i actively dread having to make (which i like 😏 those are the best choices). there are other choices throughout the series that i feel Bad about, but not necessarily conflicted. like. i Know what my choice is, but i still feel bad about the consequences 😔 these are the ones that i actually mentally find myself battling. i just love the kinds of choices that make me sit on a pause screen for too long when its really Not That Serious

S1: help lilly/help kenny - the circumstances of this choice are what make it hard. literally a ticking time bomb. do you try to save lillys father? even tho hes been nothing but a complete jackass to you AND the group this entire time and put himself in this situation? or do you try to save the group by destroying his brain before its too late? clem being there watching doesnt help because now theres the added layer of "do i brutally murder this man in front of this child even if it means saving her life?" i usually end up trying to help lilly just because i know kenny is gonna do it regardless (and i dont want her to feel completely ostracized by the group). the idea of puling this woman back from her dying father so we can brutally murder him in front of her is.... a lot. like.. you can TRY to save him you know?? even if he turns hed still have to get off the ground first just hold the salt lick ready kenny 💀 plus you still have to actually Die first before turning. theyd have a second to feel his pulse stop. but its a very hectic scene where youre forced to act first think later. and either way clem is forced to see it. the worst part about it is knowing kenny is gonna be on my ass about it even tho i side with him on LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE 😐😑

shoot lee/leave lee - its just 😭 telling this little girl to kill the one person she has left, moments after seeing her dead parents. its time for her to start doing the hard things. but to tell her to do THIS?? you are fucking that child up beyond belief. but also the guilt she'll carry if she DOESNT do it, knowing hes still in that jewelry store, possibly chained to it, forever (which the narrative impact of lee starting and ending the game in handcuffs (possibly a prisoner in his own body??) makes me SCREAM AND CRY LEEEEEEEEEEE THATS GOOD NARRATIVE BAYBEE).

S2: shoot kenny/look away - another "is clem ready to do this?" kind of moment. its time for her to start making her own choices. what does SHE want?? i think even a clem who shoots kenny is gonna be conflicted about it on some level. recently i played a clem who let kenny kill jane then shot him anyway. that was cool :) and the moment is way more dark than shooting him outright. no heartfelt goodbyes. just a tired "do it". oof. the set up for the kenny/jane fight is Not Good like we ALLLLLL KNOOWWW it shouldve been luke ok. but the choice itself is still a HUGE character moment for clem, and its one of my favorite and most dreaded choices in the series. how is clem feeling about kenny at this point? is shooting him something she can do?? before its too late?? or will she be paralyzed by choice? this is a choice she Never shouldve had to make, but here she is, and she has to. before time runs out. i like my clems alone so usually i either wait out the clock (no choice is still a choice. clem just cant do it but cant look away either) and stay at wellington (good alone ending), or i shoot him 1 of 2 ways (clem Can do it)(bad alone ending). shooting him after he kills jane is just like 2 birds one stone to me SHDHSJKDS 💀 and it hits that middle ground of being paralyzed by choice but still ultimately Making A Choice, just too late for it to matter to anyone but herself. and her line of dialogue finding aj alone "we're gonna be ok, we're gonna be ok" like shes trying to reassure herself more than anything WAAAHH i kinda liked it a Lot actually 👀

S3: ??? romancing kate or not i guess?? - its the only one that really made me feel conflicted (aside from maybe the conrad thing?? sorry clem but im gonna force you to stick around actually i like it for the Narrative and it makes gabe less annoying later. also conrads alright). do you respect your brother or do you get with his wife who hates him LOL. because its not one choice you make, not really. its one the game is constantly asking of you, putting you in situations where the choice needs to be made again and again until finally you make the Ultimate choice about it. people who complain about the game being so pushy about it are kinda funny to me because like, ya.. thats the whole point.... (ive pushed back defiantly Literally just because of how pushy the game is about it tho so like i get it) she is a temptation the game is intentionally dangling in front of javi. she is the Final source of conflict between the brothers. will he remain loyal or give into it? i say give in 😏 give david something to actually be mad about. ive both romanced her and not, and the game kinda feels stunted if you dont? like... i Get It. thats your brothers wife who is still wearing her ring after YEARS of him being gone. theres 😬 feelings there. but even if you dont romance her the game still punishes you by having her be weird about it in the garage in front of david anyway. i say do it even tho its messy. it makes the story more sound imo which S3 desperately needs at that point. javi can still feel bad about it. what DID david expect?? i love mess :)

S4: kill couple/send aj inside - i love a choice that gives me a lot to think about. even if the actual in game consequences are flimsy to none. with this choice specifically, what makes it hard is the fact that the couple asked to be left alone. if they were just two walkers it wouldve been a no brainer. but with their final request, it becomes a matter of respecting the dying wish of this sad couple (which becomes narratively relevant at the end of the game OUGH WHEN IT COMES BACK). and will you teach aj that respecting those wishes is important? he needs to learn to become self sufficient anyway. clem crawled through her own number of dangerous holes in her youth. but thats the other side of it. that clem, knowing personally how dangerous crawling into those spaces where no one could follow was, i dont know how comfortable she would be letting aj do the same. but also, she doesnt want him to grow up too hardened. if she kills this couple, its pushing him further into that hardened mindset. to do whatever you have to to survive, no matter the cost to others. its a choice i find myself sitting with the longest even tho its consequences are pretty much just 2 lines of dialogue ("that couple clem tried to Guilt me about" LMAO YEAH ITS TRUE AJ THIS IS A LEARNING MOMENT FOR YOU). but yeah this is a choice i have a 50/50 chance with going either way on. every time i kill the couple i feel so bad about it 😭 (and so does clem 🥺). it being more of a philosophical question instead of an actual gameplay decision is what i like about it

not sure/take things slow/girlfriends/kiss - NOT JOKING ABOUT THIS ONE its actually so hard for me HSDHSDJKSJKDJK i dont have a paragraph of reasons why tho i just love them all differently. the first two feel the most realistic. i do like the idea of taking things slow and the dialogue for it is really sweet. but also. they might die or be taken tonight. so one kiss before everything could come crashing down on them is nice. but also hearing them call each other girlfriends???? adds years to my life. vi in ep 3 being like "um so you said you wanted to be girlfriends 🥺?" and clem like "😏 ya" i just love hearing them say it 😭 Out Loud 👁👁. and then either way clem gets another chance to kiss her in the woods in ep 3 so it works out. and 2 more kisses in ep 4 from vi this time!! thank you devs for my life 🙏 what a wonderful choice

i love choice games so much just because of the questions they ask of you. i honestly LOVE looking through the player choice stats i find them SO INTERERSTING ESPECIALLY the ones that are split perfectly 50/50. i would literally look at the stats for every single choice im not joking. where are the stats

seokjin doesn’t have a plan/itinerary, but he does have a massive list of all the restaurants he wants to hit, wineries/breweries/distilleries you might come across, etc. and he actually does a good job of keeping you calm with all the travel stress by being a giant fuckin goofball. this is the one situation where he’s not yelling, whining, etc. when he gets frustrated because he prioritizes your well-being 💕

yoongi has his shit right together, but in a very low key way. he doesn’t announce any of it, but he’s in full airport dad mode. he knows exactly when your flight is and how early you need to be there; he’s done the pre-boarding whatever the fuck. he somehow has any toiletry item you didn’t even think to bring. i guarantee he has tampons and tummy meds and shit, just in case. thoughtful bastard 😭 but don’t you dare comment on any of this or make it a big deal that he’s so prepared because he will blush to death.

i truly reached a new low with my father last night. he and my mom were planning to go on a trip today and they were supposed to wake up at 4. i was out late w my bsf, got home at 2. but since like 10 he had nagged me to come back because he wanted to go to sleep and he fucking ANTICIPATED that ill bother his sleep by opening the door. so he fought w my mom for like 4 hours and claimed im trying to kill him by not letting him sleep (literally only because id open the door at some point during his sleep). so he waited until 2 am for me to get back, accused me of ruining another weekend and his life, FOUGHT with me. allllll because he anticipated that i will open the fucking door AT SOME POINT

he's been insane about his sleep for more than half my life. going to the kitchen to get water/food = ruining his sleep, brushing my teeth too loud = criminal offense, ruining his sleep, OPENING A DRAWER, FLUSHING THE TOILET, WHISPERING NOT EVEN IN THE SAME ROOM AS HIM, IN ANOTHER ROOM = ruining his sleep. these are all real examples <3

so anyway now he canceled the trip and is acting like an actual toddler. he chooses to have the same trip and wake up at 4 am almost every weekend

The Todoroki's are honestly just happy to see Natsuo happy and taken care of, with that being said they each approach Natsuo's new found relationship in wildly different ways:

Rei: Stereotypical mom. When she hears that Natsuo has a boyfriend she badgers him for months to bring him to one of the family dinners but Natsuo refuses. He's never brought anyone home to meet his family before and he reasons that Shoto and Touya haven't brought Keigo and Fumikage to a family dinner yet so why should he have to put Stolas through that? When Rei finally meets him at the hospital after Natsuo's kidnapping she's a rightfully a mess and flustered but she's so pleased to see that he's every bit as sweet and doting (and handsome) as Touya promised her the owl was. She definitely has one of those super embarrassing "Oh it's so nice to finally meet one of Natsuo's significant others!" which Stolas just takes in stride (yet another first of Natsuo's he gets to have 😉)

Touya: Touya definitely helped get these two idiots together, but when it seemed like things might actually be in it for the long haul he gives Stolas the shovel talk. Things definitely get out of hand and they both end up pretty freaked out. Touya and Stolas get along well though, Touya is pleased to see someone is finally taking care of Natsuo.

Fuyumi: Fuyumi always gives the appearance of calm, but really she's just as feral as her brothers, it's just no one ever believes them because once they meet her they peg her the sweetheart that she is. Fuyumi has always been protective of Natsuo, so when he tells her he's dating one person exclusively?! She absolutely stalks Stolas on every social media she can, and when she can't find enough information she contemplates getting a PI but first she pulls her strongest card: Mo. Mo gives her allllll the tea on Stolas. When Fuyumi finds out that even Mo approves of Stolas then he get's her stamp of approval.

Shoto: Honestly he's just happy someone is making Natsuo happy. Shoto is too observant for his own good and Knows™️ Nat isn't good at taking care of himself, or setting healthy boundaries that have his best interest in mind so watching Stolas help him with those things earns him Shoto's approval. Shoto definitely marked off his conspiracy theory that Todoroki's attract birds... and then subsequently had to redact that theory when Fuyumi started dating Miruko.
