(Note: as some may know, I've been spending a lot of time lately working on a big web application to help people make their own, free, web-based, customizable dashboards. Today I wrote some code to help me learn about a framework the dashboard is using, so I guess this is a sort of, "diary of a workday." I'm writing it just to write it, so my posting will probably be somewhat scattered – I just got up from dinner and my thought process is going to take its own unpredictable path for a while)

In our free, web-based dashboard, customer data ("calls, transactions, etc.") is stored in a customer data model (CDMs).

I have an interface called "Customer" in which I want to display a row for every person who makes a certain number of purchases/calls/etc. My code will ask a CDM to return a Customer, and it will display this row for that Customer.

At some point, our application will want to let the user display a list of every Customer. However, this list may take up a large amount of space on the user's screen. To this end, we create one model called "AllCustomers" which will return a list of every CDM ever made.

We will call "allCustomers()" by default, but the user can call "customers(n)" if they want to display a specific customer number. (The "n" argument will be in a database query result, and will come from the user.)

The problem I ran into today is that "AllCustomers" (by default) returns a ListModel with many, many elements. If you try to display the list in the interface, this takes up a bunch of space and makes the display glitchy. If you call "customers" in the interface with "n" equal to 1, it works fine, but I want a list with a number of Customer objects that the user can select from.

The problem is, ListModels can only return one Customer object per iteration, for no apparent reason. You would think that I could do something like this:

But the list returns "TypeError: can't set attribute", because of course it can't. What can we do?
