Noa and Mae: A Taboo Affair?
Hi, there! Kida checking in again with yet another controversy - you've been warned.
I see a lot of people on Tumblr and Reddit pointing out that a Noa/Mae (#NoMae?) pairing would be at best controversial, at worst beastiality.
I mean, he IS a CGI ape, right?
Not so fast.
I'd like to break down a few points, if I Mae (pun intended!), and address this argument. I'll be using a few of the comments I've seen on the web already to do so, on the part of the dissenters to the pairing.
1st Argument: "Planet of the Apes wouldn't show a kiss between a human and an ape. Ew."
Reply: Oh, they already have, my friend. Not in the full-blown sense, but they definitely did film Zira and Taylor kissing lips to muzzle in 1968. You can view that lovely bit here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEp7yunwVF8
Tumblr media
I apologize in advance for impinging on your delicate simian sensibilities. #sorrynotsorry
2nd Argument: "Why would they even depict a human/ape couple? Humans and apes can't even reproduce in the franchise."
Reply: They can't? News to me. There was a Hum-Ape written into the early scripts and screen tests for Beneath the Planet of the Apes in 1970. Seems the Planet of the Apes franchise truly thought it was worth exploring back then. You can read all about that little guy right here: https://planetoftheapes.fandom.com/wiki/Hum-Ape
Tumblr media
Aww, just look at that adorable lack of face-fur!
3rd Argument: "The audience of today isn't ready for that kind of thing."
Reply: And the audience in the 1960's/early 1970's was? I didn't know we became even more conservative 50+ years later. I'll be sure to adjust my high neckline and clutch my pearls in absolute horror at the thought of all of those deviant libertines living before me. Excuse me, I must go confront my parents about this.
BUT, before I do, I do want to point out we seemed to accept an on-screen kiss between Goliath (a gargoyle) and Elisa (a human) during a certain Disney children's cartoon show in the 1990's - anyone remember that?
Tumblr media
Disgusting. I bet his breath smelled like rancid pigeon.
Additionally, we have more recent films such as Avatar, The Shape of Water - which won 4 Academy Awards, including best picture (not bad for a human and a fish-man pairing), and Beauty and the Beast.
And hey, if a living monster is not your thing, you could always opt for Warm Bodies. Think female human and male zombie. Necrophilia, anyone?
4th Argument: "Okay, fine, I see your point on the Taylor/Zira thing. But that only worked out because it was a human in a monkey suit, and we all sort of knew that. It didn't make it so strange. As for the other films you listed, well, those creatures don't actually exist so it's out of the realm of true possibility anyway. Noa is depicted as a real chimp, and him getting with Mae just makes it hit too close to home for comfort."
Reply: #Ishetho? Let's take a good look at what a "real chimp" looks like:
Tumblr media
He's so damn Chimpy.
Okay, now let's look at our leading man--er, ape:
Tumblr media
Looks like Chimpy had a love-child with Owen Teague. #shudder
As you can see, the two are pretty different. Chimpy has a true muzzle and a mouth that curves around it. Noa has a flatter, human face with an actual nose bridge and wider-spaced eyes.
And the EYES. My god. If you don't see the humanity in those baby-blues you might want to get checked for psychopathy. Besides that, Chimpy lacks eye-whites and has rounder eyes than Noa. Additionally, that pronounced brow ridge on Chimpy has thunder clouds gathering beneath it. Don't get me started on the ear comparison between the two, I'm sure it goes without saying!
Anyway, I think it can be safely stated that no chimp alive on this earth looks like Noa. He's too physically humanized to resemble an actual chimpanzee of the typical zoo variety. Thus, I would place him safely in the category of fish-man, the tall, blue cat creatures from Avatar, and those barbaric blue aliens that keep cropping up on certain ice planets in books #ifyouknowwhatImean.
---------------------
All that said, everyone can ship what they want. If you want Noa playing house with Caesar, never mind that trifling little timeline issue, you go with your fine self and write that fanfiction. Create an account on DeviantArt.com and fill it with their anthropomorphic babies who eventually grow up to be the first ape astronauts. Someone out there is going to love it and eat it up, I promise you.
For the points above, this is about Noa and Mae. They've got something, something tangible. Whether or not it becomes canon is yet to be seen.
For now, it lives on in our minds. With our inner eye, we can see it just fine.

Allan: "Not a braincell there, huh?" Thatcher: "Not even half o' one between 'em." Tom and Skipper: *excitedly chatting about the glowy moth*
Another day, another attempt at sketching gone wrong. But there's improvement so I'll cherish it lol. Plus, its the first time I've drawn my sailor ocs with their original templates! Thatcher Morgan has his roots in Allan, while Tucker "Skipper" Anderson has his roots in Tom. Grouchy DadTM and Himbo. Skipper most certainly ain't captain, it's just a nickname and thank goodness because Skippy i love you but you are NOT captain material. Thatcher on the other hand is first mate and does eventually become captain. But he has a much more wholesome relationship with his captain, Finnick.
They're not complete copies, as they now have almost 10 years separating them. Thatcher's not British, but Aussie and so is Skipper. Well, Aussie coded. They're on another planet, my original planet Kelusia. But that's for another channel. Unless 👀
Maybe one day I'll publish my Dusk and Mariners series and y'all get meet the crew of the Caroline in full, but for now they shall remain simple guest stars in my sketches. If y'all like the Karaboudjan crew, you'll love the Caroline boys (and gals).
More art below! Some details Thatcher and Skipper faces and some older sketches of the whole Caroline crew. Plus the initial sketch of the above art!

So I finished Alan Wake 2...
Tumblr media
I think I bought/beat Alan Wake 2 at the PERFECT moment. Okay, turns out I only had until fall to FINALLY hold it in my f*cking hands, but hey, as mentioned before, I'll GLADLY buy it twice especially since I keep hearing it hasn't been selling well, like WTF people ??? Like GO BUY IT RIGHT NOW ?
Tumblr media
I only waited like two weeks since beating the game to have the DLC almost shadow dropped into my lap. I haven't started playing yet, but I can't wait to jump back into Remedy's GORGEOUS and crazy world. It's not a loop, it's a spiral 🩵
SPOILERS BELLOW

I really hope we get a sequel Kingdom. Do you wonder what the next title of the Planet of the Apes would be?
Well, with the movie surpassing 300M in the box office, I’d say you are going to get your sequel and then some.
As for the name, it will likely follow a closely-related set of words like Rise, Dawn, and War.
If I had to take a random guess, it would follow the civilization theme:
1. Empire of the Planet of the Apes
2. Republic of the Planet of the Apes
3. Realm of the Planet of the Apes
You might also get a:
1. Renaissance of the Planet of the Apes
2. Era of the Planet of the Apes
After all, the Eagle Clan discovered a lot more knowledge from their foray to the coastal kingdom. They discovered the truth about the virus and humanity’s fall from grace, plus their own origin.
I hope this post ages well.
For funsies, let’s take a poll. People of the fandom, which name of those five is the most likely to be the name of the next movie?

"I remained too much inside my head and ended up losing my mind." - Edgar Allan Poe
A spiraling discussion of madness about the movie The Pale Blue Eye. If so inclined to watch it, please be sure to inform yourself of the triggers beforehand.
And let us know of any other Poe inspired media out there!

The Pale Blue Eye - My thoughts
As a sucker for murder mysteries, the trailer for The Pale Blue Eye caught my eye. It helps that Christian Bale was in the lead and Scott Cooper was directing. I think Out of The Furnace is one of Bale's most underrated performances, as is Hostiles. The Pale Blue Eye feels the most commercially accessible of Scott Cooper's films. Overall, its a fairly well made, interesting mystery, with a twist that you can predict if you are paying attention, bolstered by two stellar lead performances.
This is undoubtedly a slow burn murder mystery. It takes its time introducing the characters and establishing the dynamic between Landor and Poe. The film does a good job of establishing the odd nature of Poe and then establishing the relationship dynamic between Poe and Landor. Its the moments between the major scenes which give the film its flavor. Poe is verbose and strange whereas Landor is a very Christian Bale character. He says and does a lot with his eyes. You can tell he's smart but he's not a Sherlock Holmes/Hercules Poirot/Benoit Blanc type detective who openly brandish their smarts. As always, there is a mysterious nature to his character.
If there is a flaw to the film, it is that the actual mystery is not very difficult to decipher if you pay attention. I think the film gives some fairly obvious clues that at least put you on the path to figuring out the mystery. And it honestly would have been a bigger issue if the film wasn't anchored by two excellent performances. Christian Bale being great in a role like this is so expected that I think people don't appreciate it enough. He's a master of delivering a performance without saying too much. He delivers a character who has got a painful past but he doesn't brandish it at any point. You also see his growing affection for Poe just with his microexpressions. Matching him toe to toe in a much showier role is Henry Melling as Edgar Allen Poe. He has to be simultaneously likable, weird, and a bit creepy and he nails it all. He has to share a lot of scenes with Bale and given he leaves a big impression, that's a big credit to him. Other notable performances are Toby Jones, Gillian Anderson, and Lucy Boynton as Marquis family members. Gillian Anderson doesn't get a very big role to flex but Toby Jones and Lucy Boynton leave an impression.
Overall, a pretty interesting movie. Certainly worth watch. An 8/10
