Jamie helps with meal prep, sitting at the table and doing what he’s told to do — mostly the parts of chopping and stirring that are difficult with only one hand. He films a few short videos along the way, sending them to Roy and getting Dani to wave and say hello to the camera. Roy responds with Bitmojis, mostly, which Jamie shows to Dani, and together they conclude that Phoebe had to have shown him how to use those, because there is no way he would have either thought of it or figured it out on his own.

cangel is truly so iconic they're so FUNNY together and the way their relationship is literally Baked into the narrative of ats is so oughhhh. they ARE angel the series......the big ole asterisk on 'platonically' is because i only trust platonic interpretations from people like yourself + some others who are interested in, like, aromantic readings of the text. because back in the 2012-2015 era i got burned so hard by so many people insisting that they ~loved their friendship~ and they were ~so platonic~ and ~practically siblings ew it's like incest!!!~ and ~angel could Never love anyone besides buffy~ and ~cordelia's character was Ruined by their romance and she became Just like buffy~ that i just have very little patience for people harping on about how 'their friendship was good but their romance was bad/OOC/ruined their characters.' but i'm cool with readings that question the idea of romance itself, that's fine and kinda based tbh.

sorry evryone. i'm robbie williams posting again now. throws up and also kills myself. but this is actually the most fucking insane set of lyrics I can imagine anyone writing into their original single for their own biopic the main conceit of which is how they see themself as a performing monkey who gives a fuck what everyone thinks and will stop at literally nothing to be the most beloved special boy of all time and finally get the approval they crave. better man was actually so good in spite of being a musician biopic (red flag) bc I think this was the first time I'd ever watched a biopic that's very existence felt like an object lesson in its subject's debilitating psychological issues that they clearly still have. also he's just like me fr i can't even lie

This is a super self-indulgent WIP, but been wanting to pay tribute to two of my childhood favs: Ken Ichijouji from Digimon and Silver from Pokémon. Revisiting/catching up on their stories and seeing the parallels between them reminds me I still love both these boys very much. <3

In terms of writing, over the past year been working on and off a fic for Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated focusing on Mayor Jones. Gonna put the bit where I last left off under a cut after the tags, since it sorta spoils a character appearance/interaction I kinda wanted to keep under wraps - but not the most major one at least. ^^; (If you know you know... ;()

🔥 - Cordelia

Cordelia is a character I generally like without actually thinking about her very much, if that makes sense? Maybe I would care about her more actively if I were more invested in Angel; or maybe knowing what that show will ultimately do to her is what stops me from getting invested in it. Not really sure either way to be honest.

As far as hot takes go ... well, I don't think I really buy into most of the Cordelia fanon I sometimes see on Tumblr. Can't really put why better than I did last year. Like I said in my recent Faith hot take: I don't like the fanon instinct to try to make characters nicer and more sympathetic than they're presented as in canon, especially when they have some kind of canonical redemption arc. You're getting rid of one of the more interesting things about them! Why?

On the other hand, I do like the headcanon (not originally mine - I think I got this from @all-seeing-ifer) that Cordelia is ace, or at least that she's accidently ace-coded. I mean, I certainly don't think it is at all deliberate on the part of the writers, but when you go to look there sure are a lot of scenes in which Cordelia either expresses disinterest in (sometimes even disgust at) the very idea of sex (in Faith, Hope & Trick for example: "not the horny thing -- yuck!") or admits to being confused by the thought that other people might want to have sex (in Innocence, for example, she asks Xander with seeming genuine puzzlement: "does looking at guns really make girls want to have sex? That's scary.").

Oh, and although the show is really not clear on this at all, I think the high school Scooby dynamic is slightly more interesting if Willow and Cordelia were (briefly) friends when they were both much younger. To borrow a term I saw recently, this is more canon compatible than canon compliant -- I don't think anything in canon rules it out, but it's a bit of a stretch to say this something that actually comes from canon.

Certainly Xander and Cordelia knew each other from a very young age (they've known each other for at least twelve years in Season 2, as per The Dark Age). And as Willow and Xander were friends as early as kindergarten (which is confirmed in Grave if not before), I think it's safe to assume Cordelia knew Willow at that age too. In Innocence Willow reminds Xander of the "We Hate Cordelia" club ("of which you are treasurer!"), but we don't know exactly when this was formed (I'm guessing a while ago though, given the childishness of the name). What if said club was something Willow formed only after she and Cordelia stopped being friends? After Cordelia met Harmony, say (who we also know, from Graduation Day, is somebody Willow has known for at least a decade: "she picked on me for ten years") and chose being popular over her previous friendship?

Again, I suspect this isn't intentional but it's a take I rather like, and one that I think makes a bit of internal sense. Willow and Cordelia do actually seem to get on better than you might think in the early seasons -- when there's nobody else around for Cordelia to try to impress by putting Willow down, anyway (among other examples, see their intereactions throughout Prophecy Girl). And while Willow obviously doesn't like, say, Harmony -- in fact she hates her "with a fiery vengeance" according to Graduation Day again -- there was apparently no "we hate Harmony" club. What makes Cordelia different (beyond being a main character when Harmony isn't, which is probably what the writers actually had in mind).

Well, what if Cordelia isn't just one of the many people who bullied Willow in high school: what if she was her friend until she ditched her to be more popular? Wouldn't that sting just a little bit more?

We know that Cordelia is actually pretty smart, even though she tries to play it down ("I have some experience of covering these things up," she tells Xander after he sees her SAT scores in Lovers Walk; and don't forget she'd previously said she was "looking forward" to taking the SATs because she "does well in standardized testing" and was accepted into multiple good schools she just couldn't afford to attend). In fact, Cordelia basically has to be academically successful in high school in order to fulfull her primary role as Buffy's shadow self.

But if Cordelia consciously realised at some point that she should hide how smart she is from her peers in order to be popular, is it that much of a stretch to think she also decided to cut off her existing friendship with Willow, who Principal Snyder describes in Doppelgangland as represenative of "the pinnacle of academic achievement at Sunnydale High"?

Also, in the spirit of this post about parallels between Willow and Cordelia (which I really like), it's interesting to compare Willow's nightmare in Restless -- being back in high school and somehow being Found Out -- with Cordelia's fear in Season 1's Nightmares of being dragged into the chess club (which, at least in the language of television) is easy to read as a metaphor for being exposed as somebody who is secretly brainy and perhaps enjoys stereotypically academic or nerdy things. Just like Willow does, in fact.

Remember what Cordelia tells Buffy all the way back in Welcome To The Hellmouth when they run into Willow: "if you want to fit in here, the first rule is: know your losers". That is: Cordelia tells Buffy, the girl who she serves as a mirror of all season, that if she wants to fit in she'll have to choose not to be friends with Willow (and instead performatively belittle and bully her whenever she has an audience). Is it that much of a leap to suppose that a much younger Cordelia once learned that lesson herself?

oh i'm FASCINATED to hear what your thoughts on lost are so far

FAIR WARNING this is probably not going to be very nice to the show so if you're a big lost enjoyer and don't wanna see that this would be the time to keep scrolling. sorry for the delay also. guy who has been typing his thoughts and then getting distracted on a loop for several days.

basically: i don't know why, but i have been deeply compelled to watch the show lost recently. like, i genuinely don't have an explanation. i know i'd seen like, half of season one about a million years ago and have no memory of any of it so this is functionally my first go through it.

in short: i think it has its strengths and its weaknesses. to me, more weaknesses than strengths. i know opinion degraded as time went on but even just where i am now, i do not know why this thing has the like 'one of the best shows of all time' reputation that it has. i really, truly don't. like, it's fine, sometimes it's even good, but like. why do people talk about this like it is the pinnacle of television. it is however like, almost hypnotically watchable, and i keep going through like, handfuls of episodes at once.

in long: so i'm on the early early episodes of season 2 and i already know that most of this show is mystery boxes inside mystery boxes half of which never really have a payoff that's satisfying and so i'm pre-emptively frustrated by that. it's like.... i would love to be excited by the mysteries that come up, but instead of getting to excitedly wonder 'oh wow i wonder what the explanation for that will be!' i'm instead sitting here thinking 'gee i hope that's one of the ones we get an answer to.' it's not a great feeling, and mostly i'm like. man why do they keep giving jj abrams creative authority over things. he's a good director, why do they keep ruining that by letting him WRITE too.

also there is so much weird racism and misogyny in here lmao. gd.

anyways. moving on to specifics.

i will confess i am a sucker for disaster survival scenarios. it's half the appeal of any apocalyptic thing to me, and this delivers. i'm enjoying the mystery boxes when i can put aside the fact that i might not get to see inside them at all, depending. i think the flashbacks are well structured and sprinkled in with effective timing and degrees of revealed information. i think one of my fave parts is how much of like... the Weird Shit in the flashbacks is just. not clear about whether or not it's related to the island? were the numbers hurley used to win the lottery actually cursed? does disaster and death follow walt around or is his former stepdad just an asshole and it's all a coincidence? what was up with the fucking psychic claire talked to? etc. that's one of the ones where i'd be fully comfortable with that question never being answered. it's satisfying as hell just to wonder.

characters! the extent to which i do not give a single fuck about jack, kate, and sawyer is amazing. like. they're all so resoundingly uninteresting to me. i actively think everyone here would be better off if sawyer was dead, because even for me (noted asshole with a heart of gold enjoyer, I KNOW, I KNOW) he is A Bit Fucking Much. if he does not ease up soon it's gonna be Bad. i mean it's already bad but. lmao. his best moments so far were telling jack about what jack's dad said to him in the bar and saving michael after the raft is destroyed. kate is just... everything about her is so overwrought and i'm just bored and a little embarrassed every time we have something focusing on her. i do like that she's abjectly doing shady shit sometimes, they should lean into that more. gaslight gatekeep girlboss etc. jack is so nothing it's amazing. he is baymax to me. he is not even baymax, baymax had more of a personality. why is he the protagonist of this show, he is such a generic white dude audience insert character.

i really love sun, hurley, charlie, claire, michael, walt, and - when he is not YELLING AT HIS WIFE - jin is okay too. i also really enjoy sayid and i have to say that like. i think they have massively fucked it up with his writing in several points, it's like. stereotypical and almost comically racist at times but i also have to like... idk, i do have a significant degree of legitimate respect for the swing they took with him in the first place, to be honest. it's like. idk. this was a show that aired in 2004, written and filmed before that, and i know his character made a lot of people Big Fucking Mad to have in a show about a plane crash as an unambiguously sympathetic and positively depicted character, missteps in his writing and all. it doesn't excuse the mistakes made with him obviously but the context in which he was written makes me like. idk. appreciate the fact that he exists, and kinda tip my hat to like. you guys Tried saying something here. i gotta respect that.

jin and michael's odd-couple friendship is extremely charming to me. hurley is the sweetie of all time and i really love how he just... is willing to interact with people on a straightforward level no matter who they are or what's going on? locke cracks me the fuck up. like all his magic healing disability and general premonition shit aside, it's extremely funny to me to watch grandpa survivalist finally get to LARP his dreams of being a hardcore jungle man. he is fucking insane gd blass.

i will say um. the less said about shannon and boone the better. eugh. literally why would you do that. like... it throws me so much every time someone finds out about That Whole Mess and literally does not react at all. before somebody screams and whines and cries about how IT'S FINE TO EXPLORE TABOO SUBJECTS IN FICTION STOP BEING A PURITAN YOURE BEING A FAN COP WAAAAAAA i'm not saying you can never write this sort of thing just like. literally why is the entire narrative framing of it a tragic starcrossed lover thing. why is nobody reacting like this is as nasty and weird as it is. lmao.

I had a really hard time with this since I didn't really documented well what I watched last year....also didn't watch too many movies in general i fear so a bit of a weird list from me here:

It's a Summer Film! (2020)

a late 2024 watch but i had a BLAST!! such a love letter to amateur film making & the samurai film as a genre makes me want to watch lots of the classics in 2025!!

Vertigo (1958)

i havent really seen too many of hitchcocks movies or at least watched them and payed attention. my mom is a big fan of his but whenever she tried to show me one of his movies i got bored as a kid. catching up now and MAN yea no wonder ppl are still stealing this shit. REALLY GOOD

The Lure (2015)

only made it onto the movie night list for the title and we were BLOWN AWAY. grew up on the original version of the little mermaid and when i realized this was adapting this as a musical!!!!! WOOOHOOO - also everyone knows how i get about siblings so. yea

Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine (2023)

i dont really know if ppl are aware how deeply engrained this francise is in german culture. anyways yes ive seen all of the like 40 movies at least once. so i can admit that most of them arent really good but THIS ONE. actual storyline development? crazy goverment tech? underwater base? also saw it with my beloved @wehavecometoanend--maybe so it was a blast in every way!!

The Shadow of the West (1986)

FREE ON YOUTUBE BTW. a really emotional but important watch. edward said wrote this so i was planning to watch this after i finish orientalism but i have so little time to read these days. anyways. PLEASE WATCH IT ITS LIKE AN HOUR!!

Queen of the Damned (2002)

ive been meaning to watch this for years but post iwtv spiral i HAD to. good thing i did before reading any of the books bc this is not even close to the tvc but such a blast!!! we got numetal vampires and aaliyah bringing akasha to life despite it all!!! really enjoy the freshly post matrix -ism of this movie!! really they could only make this in 2002 and im so happy they did. why no sequels tho.....

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001)

just wanted to see this for camp reasons but it really stayed with me!! yes maybe not perfect for modern sensibilities on some of these topics but really emotionally poiniant also loved the storytelling in this!!! WE NEED MORE NON DIGETIC MOVIE MUSICALS!!!!!

House (1977)

also one i wanted to watch forever & movienights made it possible!!! really loved the effects in this one but also the cycle of abuse and desperation of it all! awesome stuff!! also lot more fun than i was expecting!!

Velvet Goldmine (1998)

can you tell i was in a camp musical mood this year yet. anyways REALLY good stuff!!! enjoyed the fashion and filmmaking in this one. WHY IS THE SOUNDTRACK NOT ON SPOTIFY?????
