Main Street Shops | CC-Free Sims 2 Lot | Create-a-town

This row of 5 cheery storefronts is the first in a little series of community lots to give your small towns some character. The thing that sets these lots apart from other user-created lots you can put in your game is that they were designed for decorators!

I’ve heard from several people in the community that you enjoy how relaxing decorating can be, but coming up with the building shape is another story.

I prefer building as it’s a lot like playing with Legos was when I was a child (back when square and rectangular blocks where pretty much the only options). 😄 Sure, I don’t mind slapping a few basic pieces of furniture into a house, but spending hours painstakingly decorating is something I just don’t have time for. 😅

This is where you come in!

The lots in this series are mostly empty. The first floors are lightly decorated, but the second floors in this lot and in the lots to come are pretty sparse or completely empty. This was done on purpose to give you the freedom to customize the shops as you see fit. 

It’s Win-win for both of us! 

These shops also make nice decorative lots if you just want to add some visual character to your neighborhood, as I mentioned earlier. (If you do this though, be sure to remove all of the bathroom stalls as those seem to show through walls in neighborhood views).

Since it’s a little difficult to really see what you’re getting in this lot with the over-view pictures I’ll share some shots of each individual shop. They are all built on one lot as my skills with the Lot Adjuster are completely absent.

I’ve included some titles for the buildings, but these are only suggestions. Change things up as you’d like. 

Tear out what I’ve put in and create something new. Slap a new coat of paint on the exterior, change the landscaping and you could reuse the same basic lot shapes over and over.

There’s even a basement with storage rooms on this lot, since that is a feature in some older buildings! Ideally, each shop would have stairs going to the basement, but given the limited space on the lot I’ve only put one set of stairs.

I’ve run this lot through the Lot Compressor so any random references to sims that aren’t there should be removed. I have also run it through the Lot Cleaner to remove any bits of buggy code. This lot comes with a shiny custom thumbnail so it has even more curb appeal in your Lots and Houses bin! 😄

I ALWAYS recommend using the Sims 2 Pack Clean installer to install lot files.

hello, thank you! i meant to reply to this earlier but i was still finishing up these conversions and ran into some issues haha. it's a personal conversion of the for rent rural cluster mailbox, which i might as well share. keep in mind i have since replaced it with the flag up state, which has the left box stuffed with letters.

i also tossed in a conversion of the industrial cluster mailbox. both are deco only, in deco/misc, cost 150 simoleons, and come recolored in a few image spectra colors. the red swatch is the mesh. all files compressorized. they're a bit scuffed but they serve my purposes (many thanks to @/kayleigh-83 @/xwhitepolar @/andrevasims for helping me figure out the issues i was having with these conversions). enjoy!

This story is about David Peters and RSO Ed Bethart.

Dave was born to fly. He started collecting airplane pictures at the age of 7, writing to airplane manufacturers for pictures that would cover every inch of his childhood bedroom wall. He wanted to be a pilot, and he did. He became one of the best pilots in the Air Force. He made an impossible situation possible with help from God.

Dave was descending back to Okinawa, Japan, his home base, with only one engine working. Then the other engine blew out. Knowing that the SR 71 glides like a rock, he had to think fast! Dave started to tell Ed to get out (eject).

Then Dave heard a voice …

“You’re OK keep going.” The voice was not in my head.

Ed said he never heard it. I heard it again and I felt calm and I did exactly that. I kept going.

The rest of the story is in Dave’s exact words.

It started with a rocket ride one pass through the Korean DMZ unrefueled. Everything was great until I came out of AB (afterburner) for the descent. Almost immediately the left engine started surging and the compressor stalling with the EGT going way past limits. I told Ed I was going to shut it down. So he went through the checklists and we declared an emergency and requested decent to a precision straight in. We were setting up and not particularly worried because we had done this more than once.

Unfortunately, about 15,000 ft in the decent setting up for a downwind the other engine started surging, and the compressor stalling. Ed made his infamous comment

“Don’t tell me that’s the other engine “.

My answer is, Ed that’s the other engine. So he says what are you going to do?

I said restart the other engine so call approach and tell them we are going visual and get the tower and I’ll talk to them. So I started a pretty steep dive to get enough speed for a restart which I was able to get. The engine was still operating the same way so it wasn’t doing anything but giving us hydraulics for flight controls. I left the other one running for the same purpose. Ed got the tower and I told them we were running out of engines and were visual for a modified straight-in. They cleared us for whatever we needed.

We were doing a little over 500 Kias and turning onto a descending base leg trying to get the speed down to lower the gear.

We kept slowing and I threw the gear down at about 350 Kias. At the same time, the right engine ceased. The gear came part way down so I pulled the emergency release handle and the mains came down and locked but the nose wasn’t down. I was constantly readjusting and trimming to keep the flight controls as close to neutral as possible because I didn’t want any violent movement if everything quit.

That’s when I told Ed” If I say get out… if you say what… you’ll be talking to yourself”.

I kept letting it slow and about 5 miles on the final the nose came down and locked. I felt like we had everything set up well and was geared to keep going. According to the MRS, the second engine quit at 11 seconds on final which at the speed we were traveling was a little over a mile and a half. I think because I kept keeping the trim as close as possible there were not any big changes and windmilling may have been enough. At any rate, we touched down at about 240 Kias popped the chute, and eventually used emergency braking to stop.

Lew Sultze was the first one there with a pickup he backed up under the chine and we exited.

🌟It turned out to be very fortunate that we were able to get it down because it was determined that the cause was faulty fuel hydraulic pumps that failed.

When they looked further they found the same faulty pumps on the other airplane at Kadena, two at Beale, and one at Mildenhall. (By saving the 960 they probably save more lives.)

We received DFC and I was awarded the Koren Koligian Jr trophy which recognizes the most meritorious flight for all US military for the year. This was in 1979.~ David Peters

Li'l Chimera's Plush Bunny-Bear recolours

I was reminded of this one recolour I've been meaning to do for actual years, luckily that time means I had the skills to do this really easily aha

Recolours inspired by BTSSB's Usakumya character on the Li'l Chimera's Plush Bunny-Bear made recolourable and wornable by Numenor- Numenor's files are required for recolours to appear but I've not included them this time (due to Numenor's TOU despite them being retired, the page also has a wornable teddy bear package).

These are just recolours so they do really just look like the maxis bunnybear plush cosplaying as Usakumya rather than an actual Usakumya! The mesh has lots of mirroring so they have two heart logos and all. I've made 4 recolours + worn states:

the 'retro' style is inspired by the 2002 Usakumya, which has a different face and was more fluffy. the other three are just the more popular colours of the modern style. They will go to their worn state after 3 sim months- as far as I know. I wasn't able to test it myself. I also made worn recolour packages for anyone who needs them for storytelling purposes, where they will permanently be in the worn state, download those here!

I've also made a version which is unwornable in case you want kumya to stay prisine forever. This just means that the worn texture is the same as the clean texture. The red suns rose over the western horizon, warming the cloudy sky with a carnelian haze. And on the eastern side, the swirling face of a gas giant consumed it. BB13-183-4 was a bright-blue orb of monstrous, churning clouds, one of countless millions in the galaxy, and as such wasn’t deemed worthy of a name by Empyrean bureaucrats, but the locals called it Enlil. This moon, forested by old terraforming, was also never truly named by higher powers—but to its inhabitants, it was known as Shala, one of tens that orbited the enormous planet.

Lorelei gazed up at it as if asking a prayer. “Please, just…” She glared down and slammed her wrench into the machine’s innards. “Make this damn compressor work!”

It was the core system of a set of automated watering pumps, which normally were in charge of ensuring the endless rows of budding crops on her family’s field were doused. Unfortunately, though the crops could only rustle in complaint, it had stopped working as of this morning, its matching rows of metal tubes dry as the dirt they failed to soak.

She sighed harshly and took a minute to look outwards; down over the cliff her family had anciently purchased and across the great forest in the valley below, where leaves shivered in the faint Summer wind, and animals played through them in their dance of survival. A dance so far apart from day after day on this farm.

Now, Lorelei looked back to her hands, smudged black with oil just as much as her tools, scattered in the dirt, and the circuitous innards of this angular metal box she plumbed with them. She blinked, and after a moment, laughed bitterly, realizing something.

She threw her wrench onto the ground, wiped her hands on her jeans, and stepped off with a wrought purpose.

“Stars in void—you can’t be serious!”

Lorelei came close to gripping the lapels on Vaen’s kimono. “I’m a-- I don’t know what I am, but I’m not a fighter!” She looked more terrified than angry, but a scowl still riled her face. “Let alone a librarian! This isn’t my job!”

The doll looked perfectly collected and blank, as usual. “It is not,” it said, “But you are here on our graces. You should oblige your host.”

“Oblige!” Lorelei exclaimed. “You have no-- You can’t—”

From behind them, Evangelus laughed with a reedy bellow. “You would really set such a pathetic whelp against the Knight of a Lord? A stammering child?” He shook his head, gauntlets at his hips.

For now, Lorelei ignored him and locked eyes with Vaen, trying and failing to keep her breathing steady. “Why is he even fighting for a stars-damn book?” She groaned and backed off, picking at her hair anxiously. “Why?”

The Quill nodded once in acknowledgement. “We are a library, and so lend books. We do not hoard knowledge, but liberate it. And some books we hold have great power; be it in knowledge or literal. If one is to be given that power, they must prove their ability to wield it.”

“But me?” Lorelei pointed at herself. “Why fight me? What the hells does that prove!”

“You will see, if you wish. This one does not have the power to make you fight.”

“—Really?” She let out a breath she’d been holding. “So I don’t actually have to?”

“Yes, yes,” the knight tittered, “By all means, do begone, peasant. I would seek an actual challenge, rather than some farm-girl.”

Finally, her eye twitched, and Lorelei wheeled on him. “Is there something wrong with farmers? Do you not like eating?”

“Please,” he said, “It isn’t as if your lot are particularly irreplaceable. Simply tinkering with machines which actually do the job. Why, the only thing more worthless are those which actually detract from the Empyrean,” he drolled. “Criminals, vagabonds, witches…”

Her red eyes flashed. “...Witches?”

Evangelus tisked. “But of course, the lot of demon-worshippers. They destabilize our glorious empire far more than many. Why, I’ve had the honor of putting down my own fair share.”

Memories didn’t quite spark in her, but something did. Something deep in Lorelei echoed through her heart and electrified her blood. “You have, have you.”

“Yes, yes, but enough about my grand accomplishments,” he sighed. “Be out of my way, worthless little urchin. I’ve actual business to attend.”

And that ignited the sparks. “As a matter of fact,” Lorelei said, voice even and piercing as a knife, “The Quill said I’ll be your opponent. So your business is with me.”

The ruby rose under them suddenly cried-out with beautiful light, and the braziers along the wall spilled-over their black fire. The stained glass windows above became bright, all as if the room was readying for the conflict within.

The knight huffed. “Purely ridiculous, but fine. If you wish to die, I shall grant your request.” He drew his blade, a shining white length of metal, plasma-edged in orange star-fire, and pointed it towards her.

Lorelei glanced behind her to Vaen. “Do I get a weapon?”

“You have what you need,” it said, then stepped back. “The trial of Evangelus of Har commences. Let the Stars witness its decision.”

Her eyes widened just as she heard a few metallic steps ring out from in front of her—just in time, she ducked aside as the knight’s blade hissed by her head.

He tisked again, inconvenienced.

Lorelei darted away, fleeing the man, heels pounding against hard stone.

“And so you run. Ever like a peasant.” Evangelus took a slow walk towards her, assured of this battle’s inevitability.

In her head, the Library’s other guest cursed herself. What was she thinking? What the hells was she thinking! Was she even? Why was she incensed enough to risk her life? She imagined the reason must be buried in her still-returning memories; it had to be, or else she was simply a complete idiot!

Lorelei shot behind a pillar, breathing hard and listening to the ominous sounds of the knight’s footsteps. Now what? It was pretty obvious she had to find a way to kill him. But with what weapons? Her hands? No, that was absurd. But Vaen said she had what she needed—what did that mean? Her wits? What wits! All she had in her head was the looming, soul-searing sense she was about to die.

She peered out from the pillar and, in that instant, Evangelus threw himself forward and swung his blade wildly at her.

But Lorelei was quick, throwing herself back in turn and darting again, running to the right and past him towards the room’s center. She stole a terrified glance to Vaen; the doll was just standing there, silently observing, arms crossed.

As she ran, so did her thoughts; clearly this couldn’t just be to kill her. Sure, it looked like Vaen had put her into battle just to die, but that wouldn’t make sense. The Library obviously wanted to keep this book from Evangelus, at least if he couldn’t earn it, so there must be more to this. There must be--

Lorelei heard the sounds of a few great, bounding steps, the knight’s sabatons clashing against hard stone, and she wheeled around.

His blade, plasma slicing hotly through the air, was only a foot from her head. Amidst the bright red lights—now half a foot.

She threw her hands up defensively.

One-quarter foot.

She shut her eyes and waited for her world to end.

And waited.

“...What?”

At him saying that, Lorelei opened her eyes and looked ahead at the Empyrean’s warrior.

His blade was frozen in mid-air, only a few inches from her face. And she wasn’t simply looking at him.

She was looking through a mass of condensed red light, semi-transparent. A shield. A shield that had completely stopped his sword.

“So,” he said, “A witch you are. Now I understand.”

“I…” Lorelei’s eyes widened—and widened, and widened as a rush of memories exploded through her head. She laughed. “I guess I am!”

The newfound witch shot back from him and readied herself, letting information flood her. All magic is the arrangement of emanation, the conceptual energy of things.

“I have stricken your kind down before, and I shall do it again!” Evangelus lunged, cutting his blade at her shoulder.

Lorelei ducked aside almost casually, and began to splay her arms. Umbral, Auroral, and Essential; darkness, light, and material. It is woven together into a new concept, mana, which we enforce on the world.

He yelled and slashed across, down, drew his rifle and aimed it.

She evaded opposite, then opposite that, weaving left and right as her heels danced elegantly against the ground and her arms moved to the motion. First, gather the emanation. The lights in this room are Auroral, and so is plasma.

His rifle roared with a hissing jet of plasma, a bright stream of searing death.

Lorelei danced aside from it, then from the next shot, and next, each movement perfectly-patterned, controlled. Then, weave it together. Define the new concept, the mana, with your words, actions, motions, will.

“Fight, God damn you, fight me!” Evangelus charged forwards and swung up with his blade, far faster than any mortal should be, blade cleaving the air.

And only air, as Lorelei spun away in a pirouette, leapt back, landed, and curtsied with her skirt. Finally, seal the spell. And with the completion of her dance, the spell was sealed and cast.

Abruptly, the gun in Evangelus’s hand shook, grew hot as the room’s scarlet light seeped into it. He looked at it dumbly. “What--?” And then the gun, overloaded with raw energy—exploded, burning metal shrapnel flying and cutting his face apart and plasma washing over his plating, the sheer force of the blast ripping his right side apart and letting the star-fire melt his flesh. He shrieked and fell, gurgling-up blood.

Lorelei took a casual stroll over to him and stared down, fixing the buttons on her dress-shirt. She was pitiless. “You’ve killed us? Well, your turn, now.”

“You…” He glared up ferociously, spitting blood on the floor in front of her. “Goddamn… monstrosity…”

She rose her hand, collecting emanation, and flicked it; a hideous sound from below snapped, his neck bent, and his eyes glazed-over.

Immediately, Evangelus’s body melted into sparks of darkness, vanishing into the aether of the Library.

Lorelei blinked, staring at the ground where even his blood had vanished, and… collapsed to her knees.

“Well done.”

She looked up to see Vaen giving her a small bow.

“And so you have spoken. I have heard from you what I have needed to. Thank you.”

Halfway to retching, Lorelei, staggering, stood up and looked across half the room to the doll. “So that’s why. You wanted to gauge me,” she said softly.

“To know you. And as well, for you to know yourself. Do you see?”

She took out a shuddering breath. “Yes. But I’m not doing it again. Don’t ever,” she said, voice wavering, “Do that to me again.”

Vaen simply bowed again, and said, “Go. You would do to seek the Wing of Reflection next. But this one has seen enough.”

From out of the room’s shadows, Morn stepped up behind her. “C’mon.” It extended a hand as she looked at it. “You did good.”

She swallowed hard, shook her head slightly, and took the doll’s hand wordlessly. As they went to the elevator, a tear broke from the corner of her eye.

Even though I use a mod to let pregnant sims wear any clothes, as I'm sure almost everyone does, pregnancy defaults still serve a valuable purpose for me. They prevent stuff like this:

Well, not the background pink soup, or my dumb lot names, but the hideous Maxis maternity outfit on the family load screen.

Yeah, her palla still clashes with it, but at least it looks like the kind of thing a woman might actually do when she's eight months pregnant and she just wants to waddle out through the garden to get some fresh air.

The dresses are all from Tipsypixel's Ladies of the Dark Ages set, and I primarily chose from the ones with copper brooches (I think one or two have silver) and more subdued dye colors, on the grounds that it's easier to justify a higher-class person dressing down than vice versa.

Everything seemed to be working fine, but I didn't have enough pregnant ladies on hand to test every color, so let me know if something's messed up.

At the Office | CC-Free Sims 2 Lot | Create-a-town

Everyone that has played this game for any length of time knows when a sim leaves to go to work, they really are held just off screen until the carpool drops them off at home several hours later. It makes for some awkward moments when the sim kids ask where their parents are for 8 hrs a day and how requests to go visit them during lunch break at work are met with uncomfortable silence and blank stares. 

Now neither you or your kidlet sims will have to be put in this distressing situation!

Here are 5 office buildings for decorators that are fit for just about any occupation (so long as it requires a desk, chair. and computer)!

These buildings come partly furnished to give you an idea of where to place things, but really they are for you to have fun decorating and customizing to fit your neighborhood. They are unfinished on purpose!

I used the Lost and Found Maxis Monolith Topiary in this lot. Some people don’t consider the “lost and found” items to be CC and others do. I’ve left it out of this package, but you can grab it here.

I’ve run this lot through the Lot Compressor so any random references to sims that aren’t there should be removed. I have also run it through the Lot Cleaner to remove any bits of buggy code. This lot comes with a shiny custom thumbnail so it has even more curb appeal in your Lots and Houses bin! 😄

I have been informed that most people did not go "why can't I find anything on my hard drive?!" at age 12 and then systematically rename all of their RPG sourcebook files to an optimal format cooked up in like twelve seconds, and then use that format for the rest of their lives for everything.

For those wondering what it is, it is somehow better than the file naming practices that the actual companies use.

It uses dashes instead of spaces, which serves the dual purposes of (1) being easily machine-readable and (2) allowing maximum laziness when taking files out of compressors.

It uses keywords, in an order that makes alphabetical sort put books of the same type in the same place while allowing you to easily find them by searching.

The incoherently inconsistent and keyword-less names the files come with are impossible to sort, and you pretty much just have to scroll through everything and open files to take cursory looks at them until you find the right one.

My system allows you to type in "gurps-spaceships" and find all eight items in the GURPS Spaceships series easily, then find the exact one you're looking for by glancing at the list for two seconds.

Somehow, a system I designed when I was twelve with the primary goal of laziness works better than the ones the files' developers came up with. SMH.

SR-71 Blackbird pilot Major David “Dave” Peters was born to fly. He started collecting airplane pictures at the age of 7

On Apr. 28, 1979 with RSO Ed Bethart in the back seat, Dave was descending back to Okinawa, Japan, his home base, with only one engine working.

Then the other engine blew out. Knowing that the SR-71 glides like a rock, he had to think fast! Dave started to tell Ed to get out (eject), then Dave heard a voice…

Peters recalls; 🪽🕊️ “You’re OK keep going.” The voice was not in my head. Ed said he never heard it. I heard it again and I felt calm and I did exactly that. I kept going.

It started with a rocket ride one pass through the Korean DMZ unrefueled. Everything was great until I came out of AB (afterburner) for the descent. Almost immediately the left engine started surging and compressor stalling with the EGT going way past limits. I told Ed I was going to shut it down. So, he went through the check lists and we declared an emergency and requested descent to a precision straight in. We were setting up and not particularly worried because we had done this more than once.

Unfortunately, about 15,000 ft in the descent setting up for a downwind the other engine started surging and compressor stalling. Ed made his infamous comment “don’t tell me that’s the other engine,” my answer, “Ed that’s the other engine.” So, he says “what are you going to do?” I said “Restart the other engine so call approach and tell them we are going visual and get the tower and I’ll talk to them.” So, I started a pretty steep dive to get enough speed for a restart which I was able to get. The engine was still operating the same way so it wasn’t doing anything but giving us hydraulics for flight controls. I left the other one running for the same purpose. Ed got the tower and I told them we were running out of engines and were visual for a modified straight in. They cleared us for whatever we needed.

‘We were doing a little over 500 KIAS and turning onto a descending base leg trying to get the speed down to lower the gear. I had Ed get a hold of Mobil to let them know. Tom Keck and Tim Shaw were Mobil and they had Bob Cunningham and Jim Sullivan with them. I didn’t find out till later that Jim had told them all don’t say a word the last thing they need is help.

‘We kept slowing and I threw the gear down at about 350 KIAS. At the same time the right engine ceased. The gear came part way down so I pulled the emergency release handle and the mains came down and locked but the nose wasn’t down. I was constantly readjusting and trimming to keep the flight controls as close to neutral as possible because I didn’t want any violent movement if everything quit. That’s when I told

“Ed if I say get out if you say what… you’ll be talking to yourself.”

kept letting it slow and about 5 miles on final the nose came down and locked. I felt like we had everything set up well and was geared to keep going.

According to the MRS the second engine quit at 11 seconds on final which at the speed we were traveling was a little over a mile and a half. I think because I kept keeping the trim as close as possible there were not any big changes and windmilling may have been enough. At any rate we touched down at about 240 KIAS popped the chute and eventually used emergency breaking to stop.

‘It turned out to be very fortunate that we were able to get it down because it was determined that the cause was faulty fuel hydraulic pumps that failed. When they looked further, they found the same faulty pumps on the other airplane at Kadena, two at Beale and one at Mildenhall.

As most of you know, Dave Peters is fighting for his life. Let’s all put our thoughts and prayers together for Dave.🙏
