Works in progress that are mostly complete:
Painting defaults with ancient art (I have a set with Roman frescoes, but I'd like to do an additional version with ancient Egyptian art)
The more-flexible novel default I mentioned when I posted the mythology-themed one - it's mostly done but I need to do testing, screencapping and so on.
Planned projects/ WIPs:
Manternity default for the same late-Roman/post-Roman era.
Roman NPC defaults for additional NPCs - maid, masseuse, gardener, cop and firefighters.
Shoot for the moon projects:
Figure out how to slice the mailbag/newspaper bag off the existing mesh(es) and paste it onto a new one so I can make outfits for mail carriers/newspaper kids. It bugs me to have them pull the mail/paper out of thin air even though I don't mind when they do the same with a mop/rake/fishing pole. I can't explain it.
Figure out how to default replace vehicles so I can replace the cop car, seemingly the only NPC vehicle no one ever did. I'd like to be able to adopt pets from the adoption pool in the Roman era without completely breaking immersion (also the reason for the police uniform WIP.
Learn how to mod the bookcases so the genres are different.

Even though I use a mod to let pregnant sims wear any clothes, as I'm sure almost everyone does, pregnancy defaults still serve a valuable purpose for me. They prevent stuff like this:
Tumblr media
Well, not the background pink soup, or my dumb lot names, but the hideous Maxis maternity outfit on the family load screen.
Tumblr media
Yeah, her palla still clashes with it, but at least it looks like the kind of thing a woman might actually do when she's eight months pregnant and she just wants to waddle out through the garden to get some fresh air.
The dresses are all from Tipsypixel's Ladies of the Dark Ages set, and I primarily chose from the ones with copper brooches (I think one or two have silver) and more subdued dye colors, on the grounds that it's easier to justify a higher-class person dressing down than vice versa.
Everything seemed to be working fine, but I didn't have enough pregnant ladies on hand to test every color, so let me know if something's messed up.
Compressorized, all in one file, download at SFS or Box.

I didn't think it'd be that simple but it was
To get the rest of the animation to line up with the "throw wildly" one I put in as replacement, I figured something would have to be delayed a little longer. Then I saw that the BHAV for Person B said "Idle" for 5 ticks (30 ticks is 1 sim minute according to this)
I changed it to 20 ticks, and since that was just a random guess I thought I might have to change it a few more times - But no, apparently my guess was right the first time

Over at Horus and Ayelala's house, they have four boys under the age of ten, and lord help me, Ayelala wants another baby.
I'm not sure I knew before that two kids could jump on a twin bed. Could we get four on a double?

Anat Stone spends practically every waking moment in her family's swimming pool, now that they have one, but she's a lot of fun when I'm playing other people. It's always fun when she turns up at a party to bring up awkward topics people have to be polite about because of her rank, or to side-eye impudent servants, all while wearing more purple than the actual Empress.
Though to be fair, she is a member of the Imperial family - she's the oldest sister of the Emperor. And for most of the prehistoric era I fully expected her and Amon to become my Imperial couple. The Stones were the wealthiest family by a wide margin for most of that period. Hence the especially-regal hairstyle, the purple theme, and I suppose the "what? Tact is for peasants!" approach to socializing.
At their house, pregnant servant Imentet is barely keeping it together - she's probably moving out on her own, or back in with her parents. Third son Khepri grew up and moved out, youngest daughter Martina keeps pouncing on her boyfriend to woohoo him at every opportunity, and their youngest son Naevius is on the verge of his teen years. Granddaughter Aurelia has been joined by a grandson (Aemilius, I think? Or Agrippa?) and Athena is expecting her next already.

Langbinyue Redux
This is an old old set. In this set, there was an ancient and very simple stove/counter I adored. Unfortunately it was messed up. Recolors didn’t work correctly, there were incorrectly facing corner pieces, and the thumbnails were borked, and you were stuck with deco clutter whether you liked it or not. I have fixed all that, made some invisible recolors to nuke that deco clutter, and then I also made an alternative version of the stove for some more variety. Original textures is what made me fall in love with this set so that has been kept. Hopefully someone finds this easier to recolor now too and adds some more!

'Salutant nos Morituris' - Those about to die we salute you
The phrase that rang out to Ancient Roman ears hundreds of times, while watching ‘the games’ in the majestic Colosseum (in ancient Rome though it was know as The Flavian Amphitheatre), the main watcher being the all Mighty Ceasar! Now The Colosseum is bought to the sims world, in all its former glory!

After all the excitement at Sekhmet's house, I realized I'd never played the full rotation for the main Stone house, so I went back to check on them. Khonsu and Athena's daughter, Aurelia, is a toddler now...
Tumblr media
...with the most "I am destined to be the Empress" hairstyle I've ever seen, which was what she randomly aged into. Maybe in the next generation, kiddo. Or if you manage to off your aunt Nekhbet.
Meanwhile, the family servant Imentet, a Family Sim, has skipped over wanting to marry or fall in love and just wants to have a baby. So I summoned a couple of the appropriate single adult men, and she decided she had three bolts for the romance sim Telesphorus, because of course she did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After this didn't work, they had a dream date, and she did get knocked up after that. And when it was over, this was her want panel:
Tumblr media
"I like him... (significant groinward glance) but maybe I should call up my ex who just got impregnated by the fae?"

I've gotten myself into a bit of a love polygon with Astarte. She dated Telesphorus (romance sim) in her teens, and then went on an experimental date with Neper Stone. Neper has been in love with Nisaba Pond since they were teens, but as he should be the heir for his family, he can't marry her. Astarte and Neper both totally failed to roll any wants for marriage or engagement during their date.
So I moved onto Osiris's household, where his servant, Poseidon, was apparently the only boy in his cohort NOT to sleep with Nephthys Pond. Instead, he booty-called Astarte, got his first kiss and his first woohoo in short order, and they fell in love, despite a paltry one bolt of chemistry.
Seeking some clarity, I went over to Astarte's family home, where they had many cats and about twelve hours left in their rotation. Astarte wanted to ask Poseidon on a date, so I let her do so (he's a plebeian, not a servant class, so they're an acceptable match) and then she rolled THIS want panel mid-date.
I'm marrying her to Poseidon. At least he has an interest in commitment and a desire to climb socially, which indicates a willingness to marry her. I don't know what Neper's going to do. I'll figure that out next round.
And meanwhile:

I wasn't even trying to make this happen - I was just happy he was staying out of the way.

It's finally ready! My speech and motives default is updated for the Roman era. As before, I've default-replaced not just the speech bubbles and motive graphics but the UI elements showing interests and hobby enthusiasm. This time, it's in fewer packages - still sorted by expansion pack, but otherwise consolidated.
Download at SFS or Box, or read on for more detail.
Some subjects got updated more than others, naturally; politics, school, work, entertainment and culture, sports, and money all had complete overhauls in the basegame interests, as did almost all the hobbies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The abacus used in the "money" interest, which will turn up in your fortune sims' thoughts, isn't period-accurate (and may not be accurate to any usable abacus, for all I know) but the actual Roman abacus is not well-represented on icon sites, and I have to work with what I can find. This is also the reason some quills turn up here and there in conjunction with scrolls even though they're medieval, the carriage up there doesn't look especially Roman, and so on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
P. sure the Simlish font I used in the SPQR was from Sims in Low Space, but I don't remember which one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If anyone is wondering why there's a stairway under "scary things" for pets - apparently some dogs are scared of stairs, which was at least period-appropriate. The cat tower and doghouse may be a reach, but I wanted to replace the animal skins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In hobbies, again, almost all of them were updated. Games and Science are the same as before, though. With games, I was going for "as generic and timeless as possible because I can't find icons for the ancient games I do know about," and as for science, the hobby is basically about stargazing and until real telescopes are invented they're not making much progress on that front. I included an icon of a twisty tree in honor of Fractured Moonlight's hidden telescopes, which have given me all my faelien kids and helped diversify the gene pool considerably.
Tinkering, for this round, is about great feats of Roman engineering, but then when I got to the Apartment Life stories I went with "blacksmiths," following in the footsteps of Rugrat0ne and clstldrmr83.
And for this one, lucky era, I can actually kind of differentiate "sports" and "fitness," because Rome actually had both spectator sports - gladiatoral combat and chariot races were the big ones I went with, but there's also boxing, wrestling, and mock naval battles - and a fairly modern fitness culture which has also made it much easier to pick workout wear and undies for this era.
Tumblr media
I also replaced the birds they see while birdwatching with species that at least plausibly could be European in origin, because it was starting to bug me that they were spotting birds from Australia and the Americas. There's a green parrot in the mix because it resembled the kind Alexander the Great apparently brought back from India - maybe there's a feral colony of them in the area. Or maybe I'll come back and update that again later on.
Tumblr media
The motives mod has been updated somewhat, though due to my inability to find a decent chamberpot icon they still think about peeing in bushes. My daughter thought I should have the Colosseum to represent fun but I could only find icons of its present-day state and that didn't seem quite right. For technical reasons I'd had the motives mod in multiple packages last time, but my testing this time around indicated that wasn't necessary. If I'm wrong, please let me know!
AL stories have all been replaced too - "computers" is again about technological advances, including some from the Tinkering hobby, "mechanics" is blacksmithing, "fame" is about riches and luxury and "arts" is a mishmash borrowed from the arts/music/lit hobbies. And sports is once again chariots and gladiators.
And now that I've held forth at far too much length, have the download links again:
SFS or Box.

TS2 palla and pallium: texture FIX, overhead palla
super tiny post with tiny cc updates, I have very little energy as of late.
I figured out what I didn't like about the palla (other than the obvious clipping, sorry, it wasn't fixed). it's the wrong side not being properly mapped. shame on me for making it solid color. swatches were updated as well: tiny bit of texture, and small changes to the vibrancy. pallium suffered from the same problems.

and the overhead thing. this is what I wanted the palla to be like initially, because most of the images I see show it pulled over the woman's head. I wasn't feeling very ambitious then, but I feel good enough to make this modification now. works best with, umm, braided updos? swatches are same as "normal" palla.

This is what I get for trying to decorate, huh? The groom's older brother parking himself under the arch?
And where is our lovely bride?
Tumblr media
Making her own mother ill with lobster belches.
Tumblr media
Seriously, Alaunus, get out of here!
Tumblr media
He still won't move.
Tumblr media
Okay, that's better.
Tumblr media
The bride's bodyshape is a bit too bountiful for the toga, but she was feeling romantic.
So that's Tethys and Gobannus married. I only know enough about the Roman class system to be pretty sure it doesn't work like the challenge dictates, but by challenge rules he's a plebeian and a citizen now. I need to start changing/updating some family names to help myself keep track.
And then my game crashed while saving and O had to do it all over again.
