This is a brilliant dissertation to explain why his death in The Wake is both justified as well as a long time coming comics wise. Not for nothing, a lot of the "I'm a sorry pitiful little crechur who has done nothing wrong in his life ever" narrative comes from Morpheus' own point of view.... AFTER getting freed from one of the most torturous isolating prisons known to any sane soul.

EVERYTHING that happens after Sleep of the Just is his Find Out Era, which-coincidentally-is what Season 1 was all about. Its just seeing him getting kicked in the nuts REPEATEDLY without context, and with that the audience will assume this as startling and out of the blue. IT ISNT. On every God i promise Morpheus deserves every last inch that was coming to him. Hes done every scale of SHIT you could think of, ESPECIALLY to his nearest and dearest.

Which is WHY Overture was so startling and mind boggling when it finally came out. Because we finally see Morpheus' story, beginning to finish. Do you understand? In Season 1, we were 3/4ths of the way through already. The comics, and SOM will walk you back every stone he turned to create the avalanche that will eventually run him over, and which is why it is SO SO important you read the full comics and get the full picture. The sheer depth of Morpheus is OVERWHELMING. He is so... MUCH. He is a villain in the truest sense. Trust me.. you won't regret it.
