the problem for me with both witcher s3 and wot s2—well, okay, one of a few problems, but the one i'm singling out at the moment—is that i've just reached a point with SFF where i've largely used up what little patience i ever possessed for the 'young trainee gets frustrated that they're not progressing faster and gets reckless' trope?

like it's not that it's not a plausible way for someone to behave, it totally is! but. i don't know. i need a, like, decade-long break where i just get stories starring middle-aged people who have, probably painfully, learned some damn patience and slow perseverance…

If you wouldn't mind, could you explain to me in detail how your sifloop works? Would there ever be a romantic relationship between the two (and how do you think they would get to that stage) or do you just think they'll be stuck in this weird messed up obsession and loathing loop forever? Anyway your takes on sifloop are my favourite if you couldn't tell

Oh, I've been depicting it as romantic the whole time (remembers I'm asexual and aromantic and thus my depictions of such are alien at best) Er, though you'd be forgiven for not noticing.

I know I don't draw them being particularly traditionally cute (kissing, cuddling, etc) (even though I do envision that any time it's not literally extremely inconvenient that they are entangled like a pair of magnetised squiddles) particularly often.*

(Though, I do have some hints at that kind of behaviour: (x) (x) (x)) But this is where, hm, my particular readings of these characters' self-assessment comes in.

I believe that I (an aroace tumblr user who has been immersed in nuianced language about such things since i was an early teen) and Siffrin/Loop (a guy approaching their thirties who seems to have escaped social pressures primarily via isolation from their peers) will have some different views on things. Hell, Sif/Loop don't even have words for Asexuality and Aromanticism even if they seem to be able to point toward the feeling with roundabout language.

I think that their relationship, in the way that it would manifest, would first and foremost be Physical. Some real Maslow's hierarchy shit. Both of them are viciously touch starved and given the whole shared-ownership-of-body thing I keep alluding to (x) (x) I think they are prone to being a tangled pile of limbs both clothed and unclothed.

Now I (enlightened modern day asexual) do not think that physical/sexual/romantic are in any way synonyms unless you want them to be. I believe that literally all associated behaviours of these can be platonic if that's how you feel about it. Howeverrrrrrr. I really cannot envision "black-and-white-thinking-world-champion siffrin and/or loop" being able to disentangle that so easily. I think they would have trouble squaring the circle of certain actions not being reserved for romance, at least not until after several years of continued unpacking and philosophical discussion with Mirabelle and Odile.

And then there's the part where Siffrin/Loop (and also Isabeau!) have some absolutely insane Jealous streaks. Not even on the downlow, they just do. I think that combination of jealousy and posessiveness when paired with unevenly splitting time between A Guy You're Established To Be (at the very least on his side, romantically) In Love With, and Your Weird Fucking Clone Who You Keep Being Intimate And Intensely Emotional With, is going to cause some problems when it comes to labelling things.

I do not think Sif/Loop are stupid, but man do they ever lack emotional intelligence in a lot of areas (a thing the whole game hammers home). I do not think that they would be level-headed enough to independently invent the idea of "QPR, but the kind where you do basically fuck sometimes". I think they would just (agonise over cheating, first of all.) call it a romantic pairing and be done with it.

And then Isabeau is also there I guess. I gesture at him and at my aforementioned Iseabeau Torment Nexus thoughts (x)(x). I believe this polycule can work and even be healthy but hahahaha oh man they are gonna have some weirrrrrrd fuckin tension beforehand lolllll.

as for how i think they'd get to that stage? lol, lmao. I think of things with a lens of 'what would be the most narratively intense' a lot of the time, so my answer there is:

They basically act like one right out of the gate, at least to the average onlooker**. This makes the fights feel worse. This makes them both paranoid in different ways about how this affects Siffrin's relationship to Isabeau. This makes it more difficult for the party to go "hey so, your friend, we're all being very accepting of their sharp edges because they're clearly someone who's struggling, but why are they suuuuch an asshole?". They fret about this and it causes more push and pull as either side feels guilty about this relationship they're not 'supposed' to have. Even if their relationship woes could easily be squared away by either categorising it as a QPR or talking to Isa (who is vaugardian and probably thus lax about polyamory) neither of them are going to do that right out of the gate because they lack the language, are prone to being wracked by guilt, often assume the worst will happen should they talk about difficult topics, and straight up maybe just see intimacy/sexuality/romance as a package deal due to lacking the social expertise... You see what I mean.

I don't Know if what I envision is... The literal platonic ideal of "A Romantic Relationship". I don't know that if Cupid came on down and inspected my brain that they'd agree that this is romantic and not just like, something really fucking weird, man. I don't even know if I would call it romantic, necessarily. BUT. I Do Think. That These Two. Would Maybe Label It That Way. Because it would make it easier for them to understand and come to peace with that way. Which is what matters. Labels are Descriptive, not Prescriptive.

What I DO think i envision however is something so fucking aroace brained that i can point to sif/loop's canon labels, point to MY labels, and then give you a big thumbs up hoping that you won't get on my ass for implying several sentences upstream that "they probably basically fuck, or something, idk, does star-sucking count as sex? i'm not a doctor nor medical professional of any kind. you probably shouldn't drink whatever comes out of it though"

Implicit question 2: "Jesus Christ you make them seem to hate each other, is that not contradictory? Is that all supposed to be during them being romantically involved?" Yup! Sorry for the subtle undercurrent I haven't previously explicitly and overtly established literally at all but a good chunk of that percieved hatred is a byproduct of Loop keeping their identity secret. That's the space wherein I set most of my fanart. (x) Once that cat is out of the bag I think the heat cools off significantly because then they aren't both talking around each other trying not to actually say what they're fighting about. They can actually bond about shared experiences out in the open rather than keeping their traps shut in case the party overhears. They still fight and have problems thereafter, but it's not made worse by being unable to directly discuss the core issue (+ the party can actually contribute/try to shut things down rather than being unclear on what exactly the issue is)

The above ALSO not helping when it comes to jealousy/feelings of infidelity re: Isabeau. (When specifically in the context of Romantic Frustration here, since that jealousy extends to the whole party when generalised) So that adds another thing to, not necessarily fight about, but be bitter over.

As for hatred being contradictory. Mmm. Nah.

The opposite of Love is not Hate. It is Indifference. (A theme ISAT notably gets at). Hate is distinctly something you do if you care. Often if you care Way Too Much.

I try not to write them hating each other, so much as feeling extremely intensely about each other. (x)

Feeling intensely Thankful, Understood, Sorry, Trapped, Devoted, Jealous, Protective, Pitying, Indebted...

^ Scary ! Complicated ! Hard to deal with ! Even the positive ones can be overwhelming! It's gonna make things weird!

So uh, Yeah. There's your answer? I suppose tl;dr: I view relationships as nebulous and only defined by those in it. (This is something I have previously yapped about at length in essays about my OCs lol) And generally view that there's no "true" label for any relationship except the one that doesn't cause undue distress. (which. i mean it does here. but it probably works out in the end with enough talking)

Asking me to define if something is romantic is like asking me to pin down the true form of the Human Soul. Like dawg i dont know how to do that i dont even know if that shit is real. there are merely actions and their constructed societal categories. If i tell you I think they kiss sometimes does that clear it up? (It shouldn't, obviously, but you get what I mean)

But yeah. Gestures broadly. Shipping an ace (and maybe even aroace based on some shit that little fella says) character like this means it comes with an essay. Because it necessarily interfaces with their nonstandard mode of interaction in that arena. The part where its weirdo fucking ♠ ♥ ♦ ♣ selfcest merely adds a layer.***

Here comes something you guys are gonna hate to hear - James Potter is a drag king, and he is serious about this shit. He loves his makeup collection almost as much as he loves Reggie. Pandora custom makes his dresses and other outfits.

Marlene is a punk lesbian who uses a few sets of neopronouns. They takes Barty to all the shows she wants to go to, and makes Mary come to some of the less hardcore ones.

Mary uses an insane amount of neopronouns and is constantly experimenting with potions to get her presentation exactly how she wants it.

Lily is aromantic allosexual. She is kinda romance repulsed, actually. She can't stand romance books, seeing it on TV, etc. She couldn't even bring herself to watch Heartstopper with Mary, Marlene and Dorcas because of it. Her, James and Reggie are in a QPR.

Peter has a lot of complex, intersecting identities, often dresses femininely, has tried estrogen but didn't like the effects, and reads books about queerness frequently.

Just because you assosciate being in tune with yourself as being cringe doesn't mean everyone does. Your precious fictional characters can be queer, and want to know themselves, and express in a way that you don't think they should.

Kingsley is mutinied against and sold into slavery halfway across the world. He breaks out, finds out the mutiny was the inside job to end all inside jobs, and makes his survival everyone else's problem.

Reccer says: I really, really like the way that this series explores different kinds of hurt and trauma, and how those kinds of hurt affect people's relationships and self-image. The first and second fics in the series are the most direct about the subject, but the third has a lot about what it means to lose a parental figure and complicated grief/trauma response stuff that I found really refreshing. Characters are messy and non-linear in their healing, and do their best to take care of each other. There's a lot of...I don't know how to say this, but a very no-bullshit look at the concept of the power of love that is this through-thread through the stories. Anyway, I really like them.

Nott is sick and delirious, but thankfully there is someone there to make sure she's okay.

Sometimes surviving means learning to live with the scars that killed you. Pike knows a lot about that. Scanlan is still learning. (a little comics set a bit post-Campaign 1.)

Reccer says: Author here - sorry, I usually don't shamelessly self-plug like that, but I set out to write and draw post-campaign 1 hurt/comfort dealing with Pike's and Scanlan's different resurrection-related traumas, and I poured my entire heart into it. (turns out making comics is hard but totally worth it.)

I've Held You in the Plan by CitizenMocha (4015,Teen) Warnings: None Pairings: Vex & Vax

After all is said and done with the Apogee Solstice and its aftermath, Vox Machina free Vax from the Malleus Key. The twins are reunited. Rest, reflection, and a revelation about what happens next ensue.

Reccer says: Vex's grief is palpable throughout the entire fic, even as--especially as, actually--she's reunited with Vax. It's a heartaching yet triumphant look at what might happen when the events of C3 are all said and done. There's so many little details woven in that serve to make it pack even more of a punch ("Vax Speed" does so many things to my heart) and the dynamic between all of Vox Machina is wonderful as well.

The Night is Starting to Ache by CitizenMocha (3872,General) Warnings: None Pairings: Gwendolyn De Rolo & Vax De Rolo & Percy De Rolo

Set after episode 76 of campaign 3. It's the middle of the night and Gwendolyn is afraid to sleep.

Reccer says: I loved this glimpse of an older Percy as a loving, indulgent father doing his best to comfort his child.

Caduceus stays back on the Nein's spaceship while the others run errands on a space station. When Fjord gets overstimulated from the crowds there, Jester brings him back to the ship and to Cad, who knows just what his friend needs.

Reccer says: It's very atmospheric (the description of the garden on board the Nein Heroez is So Evocative) and the familiarity and care between Cad and Fjord is so lovely and sweet. The time they've spent together and the comfort of a well-worn routine is apparent throughout the whole fic and comes together in the sweetest way.

Canities Subita: An Exploration of Self-Image by oversteepedearlgrey (1760,Teen) Warnings: Choose not to warn Pairings: Percy & Vox Machina

Percy hates looking in the mirror. He keeps his hair short and out of his face. He can’t wear his glasses during haircuts, and he certainly can’t be the one cutting it. It takes a creek, a bear, and a panic attack to find out why.

Reccer says: Percy is wonderful for hurt comfort, but I love the way that this is handling something that is more emotionally distressing than physically painful.

After a grueling battle, Vox Machina is hours away from the nearest cleric racing to get an unconscious Keyleth to Pike before poison takes its toll. Scanlan is hiding an injury to keep attention on Keyleth. It’s maybe a little worse than he expected.

Reccer says: Lovely fic where everyone is perfectly in-character, and the humour and tension are balanced just right, as are the worry and deflection (on both sides). Special mention to the Scanlan & Grog and Vex & Scanlan pairings, those add just the necessary acid-sweet icing on the h/c cake!

An (Allegedly) Easy Guide to my Kid AU Universes

I had the bright idea of making a short reference post for each of the various kids I've created across my Parenthood AUs. Then I worked out that I actually have six Stranger Things Parenthood AUs and I realised it would take forever to do a bunch of different posts, so here's a helpful reference to all the kids I mention in my fics and posts.

First up, of course, is Josieverse:

Not-so-secretly my favourite child. The parenthood AU I developed the most and the one I've spent the most time developing.

Next up is what I affectionately refer to as "Canonverse".

As of today (26/03/24) only Teddy and Lizzie have been featured in a fic out of the six of them.

This is the universe I consider the closest to the canon up until the end of season 4, with some minor changes: namely, Eddie's alive (and trans). In this AU, Steddie and Ronance settle down and eventually decide to have kids after unofficially marrying. It's the least chaotic universe.

Damienverse is probably one of the more chaotic kid AUs.

I haven't written any fics for them yet, but my co-creator Percy and I have talked about them more over on my twitter.

It's centric on Damien, who is Robin and Nancy's son, born in 1986. It's a canon rewrite overall with a focus on Nancy as a trans woman and follows their lives through and after the Upside Down.

The One Night Stand AU, also referred to as the Accidental Pregnancy AU, just has the one kid:

This one is a no Upside Down AU where Nancy and Robin have a one night stand and lose contact. When they bump into one another again, Nancy learns that she has a son, Daniel. (Nancy's a trans woman in this one too. So is Stevie!)

The QPR Stobin AU also has just the one kid:

Evie is the biological daughter of Steve and Robin via IVF. They're platonic life partners with a kick-ass kid. Evie comes out as trans in her teens and her story revolves around her and Steve and Robin following it, with Steve and Robin figuring out how to be the best trans allies they can be for her.

Finally, my Kid with Powers AU is another chaotic one.

In this one, Robin has a daughter, Katherine, who shows signs of having powers. It's theorised that the exposure to the Upside Down the older teens went through affected them, though it's also plausible that it was the drugs Robin and Steve were drugged with underneath Starcourt.

Robin and Steve are aware that the remains of the lab are keeping tabs on them, but they slip up. Robin flees with her daughter, intending to take her to Dustin's mom, but is chased off the road. She manages to hide her in the boathouse before fleeing again to take the lab members' attention.

Holly Wheeler and her friends find Kat crying in the boathouse and sneak her home to the Wheeler basement. When Holly realises Kat has powers, she takes her to Wayne. Robin believes her daughter to be dead or kidnapped when she returns to find her missing.

Wayne raises Kat. When she reaches twelve, she uses her powers to track down her mother after learning El did the same. When she finds Robin and Steve again, she learns that they have another child: Steve's son Zach. Robin's overjoyed, unable to believe she's alive. Kat ends up living with them again and adjusting to this new dynamic between the four of them.

That's all of them -- that I can remember, anyway! Apparently, kid AUs have a habit of running away from me. They're just so fun.

i’m so glad people wanna hear me talk about em, cos i love talking about em!! they’re just my silly little guys :3 and bugsy’s silly little guys. our joint custody guys

as far as quinn and leon go, they’ve been together for…. four years maybe? since about junior year of high school. and it’s been the longest and most stable relationship either of them have ever been in. even before they were a thing, quinn got leon through a lot of his early teen angst, so she’s pretty much always been his rock. she’s gotten him through a fair share of breakups, too, including at least three “breakups” with milo— leon likes the idea of dating, but at the end of the day, even if that never worked out for him he’d be fine. this is all he really needs.

It’s Spinner hours again lets go. Specifically in depth ones this time rather than generic cause I feel like I’ve never really EXPLAINED it in specifics and in case there was any other confusion I feel like this helps clean it up. 

1 - Teenage confusion. Teen Spinner has been listening to the village go on and on about first relationships and snogging behind Papa’s lab where he can’t catch them and he just doesn’t understand it. At first he’s like ‘ok cool well I guess we’re growing up now those urges will come to me soon’ … they don’t.

Vanity Smurf is a bit of a serial romantic. Spinner isn’t sure he’d called Vanity a friend but … he’s the best he’s got. It’s a bit awkward, he doesn’t really know how to go about it but eventually he just sort of pulls Vanity to one side and is like ‘uh um ah I know this sounds weird but can I kiss you?’ and hey Spinner is a good looking enough Smurf so Vanity assumes he’s asking because he (Vanity) is just irresistible. Of course Spinner darling who WOULDN’T want a piece of this?

They kiss. Spinner does not react well. In fact he really doesn’t see what all the hype is about. They try again after an apology for the bad reaction. He just feels nothing. Not good, not bad … just nothing. It’s like kissing a warm stone. Vanity is a bit miffed because what kind of Smurf isn’t overjoyed to receive such an honour but Spinner decides to give up on his quest to understand the romance hype and goes home deciding to unpack that another day.

2 – Current day; Platonic Soulmates. So whilst Spinner generally prefers the company of Weaver and Tailor growing up, there is ONE other Smurf he eventually becomes quite close to and it becomes more than friendship … BEST friendship!

Spinner & Wooly refer to each other as ‘zucchini’ or ‘squish’ (platonic crush; desire to be close to but not romantic) and are a bit closer than even Brainy & Clumsy in terms of physical affection which can include holding hands, cuddles or sharing beds or partially living together all with the EXPLICIT understanding than none of these actions mean romance. Hence, rather than just being best friends like B&C, it’s a QPR which blurs the line a little bit. Think of it like a platonic life partner. There’s 0 kissing or intimacy but might joke about get married for tax benefits in the human au. Hence also why Wooly was the only one Spinner was comfortable asking about having a child, but they aren’t traditional “parents”. They’re both fairly lonesome Smurfs but that’s not the same as wanting to be loneLY. Call em besties, buddies, pal o’ mines, whatever, as long as they get to share a stew and a warm woollen blanket. Might say ‘I love ya’ but this is the same thing I’d say to a good friend so that’s more a familial love.

It’s also currently the only QPR (at least specifically described) and other aro-ace Smurfs like SmurfJockey and SmurfCobra specifically don’t want anything like this so it’s more of an exception than a norm but it works very well! Sometimes you just gotta cuddle ur buddy. Wooly could theoretically have a romantic relationship alongside if he wanted but he doesn’t anyway and is grateful to have his aroace pal because unfortunately for Wooly a lot of Smurfs have crushed on him and he can’t say he thinks the same about them DFJSK

The Seven Dwarves: War heroes from The First War with The Witch Queen, now living out the rest of their 1000 years in a small cottage in the woods. Their names are Grumpy, Stabby, Happy, Yummy (because his baking is so good), Blinky, Sneezy, and Sleepy.

Plot and Sypnosis

It's been only a year since the king died, and everyone is desperate to be free of Queen Reigna's tyrannic rule. The kingdom's only hope is the king's only living child and Queen Reigna's stepdaugter- Princess Snow White. 

Snow has been training for years, perfecting her sword and archery skills so that she may one day challenge her stepmother for the throne and bring peace to the kingdom once again. 

That day may be coming sooner than she wanted, with potential war looming on the horizon. 

Snow desperately wants to see the good in her stepmother- despite how much the Queen only seems to bring her pain. She's just greiving the loss of her husband and Snow's father, she never meant to hurt Snow, she just doesn't know how to be motherly- 

Lan has been Snow's best friend since they were kids, and neither one would have it any other way. They is worried that she may be giving her stepmother too many excuses and chances, and that one day it'll get Snow killed. No matter how hard they try, they've never been able to get through to Snow about how they see the relationship from the outside. 

When an assassination attempt is made on Snow's life, and her friend Hunter is blackmailed by an anonymous person- Snow and Lan make their escape into the woods, in hopes that it will keep her safe until the plot against her is uncovered and can challenge her stepmother for the throne. 

Extra Stuff

This book is one of my favorites in my Fractured Stars Falling series, because it has the AroAce protagonist I always wanted to see going on the same adventures I'd see straight protagonists go on as a kid. I have no plans to force Snow and Lan into a romantic relationship, and they're going to stay best friends as they should be (just to be clear).

anyone else just kinda speed through their teen years way too invested in trying not to get kicked out of your american school or held back cause of bad grades to the point you barely remember much of what you were doing aside from studying, and then when your life got up and moved to a different side of the world you had like one good year of highschool where you met the one friend who would end up being your QPR later on but then the last year of highschool they moved to america (what the fuck bro? didn't I tell you I left cause of how bad it was there?) and then you're back to just cramming your studies and trying once again to not fail so you can get accepted into university and then you end up spending the first three of years of university doing the exact same thing and ending up in an icky relationship with a person WAY your senior who is super religious and it takes a death and a break up with said person (not in that order and the death was a completely different person) and getting kicked from the pre-req for your master's program cause "you don't seem to have the personality to succeed in an enterprising business" to finally realise you never got to appreciate being a teen and you grew up way too fast all because you were constantly believing that you were a stupid idiot who only knew how to draw and write and ultimately those abilities are useless in a corporate based world and your super religious ex stifled a lot of your creativity and the joy of just being alive and living in the moment and now that you're in your mid twenties you feel like you're re-starting your teenaged years over again and experiencing what it's like to be a cringe emo kid who blasts metal into their skull and collects anime figures and explores their gender and sexuality and goes to dnd and socialises and writes cringe fan fics online and makes fan art and likes video games and HAS FRIENDS and is no longer really concerned with passing school courses so long as you had fun and made the bare minimum while you figure out what to do but you're also kind of sad you never got to experience any of that while you were still actually a teen?

Random facts about my Sparklecare OCs because I am in an info dumping mood

I love my OCs a bit too much mayhaps. Anyways (feel free to send asks as always)

Jinkles was raised on Spinch's equivalent to Newgrounds. He actually did a few of his own animations on there

Jinkles, Cindy, and Meowsk (Cindy and Meowsk are both circus performers) live in the same house. They've got a weird somewhat QPR thing going on, even they don't know what it is but they don't really care

In Cometcare Bree uses a cane sometimes to help her stand up straight due to its fatigue. Although it's just a plain dark purple cane Puppy likes to put random stickers on it to make Bree feel better about its disability

Bailee (Puppy x Bree fankid) actually has a decent relationship with Jinkles in Cometcare, though she obviously doesn't know what he's done. She calls him "Uncle Jinks" because of the friendship between him and Bree, plus he was the one to expose her to babymetal music

Jinkles is completely declawed in the Cometcare au as a "safety regulation" by the government. He's super insecure about it and therefore always wears gloves, even when he's completely alone. His mental health has taken a bit of a toll because of it and he doesn't enjoy taking showers because he has to look at his bare hands. It's not really the claws themselves that upset him, it's the fact that they're missing to remind him of what he did

Cindy and Meowsk end up having a kid together in Cometcare! Jinkles never has any children in that au because he is deathly afraid of doing something wrong as a parent, but he helps the two when they need it

When Jinkles was a teen the first person he came out as trans to was Cuddles; he didn't tell his family until he was almost an adult. Not really because his family wouldn't accept him, moreso because of his own dysphoria and self-hatred. It took him forever to even tell Cuddles in the first place because of how nervous he was internally

Plug loathes Jinkles for many reasons, especially since Jinkles continues to eat all of the shredded cheese in the employee workroom anytime he brings it in to make omelettes for breakfast. Considering he has very early hours he just tries to make breakfast on the workroom stove but Jinkles somehow always finds a way to eat the entire bag before he makes any food. Nobody knows how but everyone is equally concerned

Plug becomes a movie director in Cometcare :) he's also in a relationship with Barry. He has another relationship but considering part of the full-length fanfiction plays into that I'm just gonna leave it blank for now

Building onto Cometcare jobs, Bree becomes a popular taxidermist because of her expertise in the field. Jinkles doesn't have a job. Jinkles is not doing well in that au if you couldn't tell. The only reason he has anywhere to live is because he still shares a house with Cindy and Meowsk

Honestly? I don't mind it! I think there's a lot of fun parallels and intertwining themes to be found in their extant relationship, and I definitely enjoy looking at the cute fanart I've seen of them on occasion. I probably would ship it if my lesbian Scary hc wasn't so real to me! I would absolutely adore seeing them in a qpr though - I actually really like the idea of the teens all being in a qpr together. Nobody comes between Scary and her boys 😤😤😤 Nonetheless, Link and Scary have such an interesting dynamic and I feel like it's very much been a highlight over the past few episodes - I mean, Link breaking the anchor of love as an act of solidarity with Scary? Link refusing to let Scary go even as she Eldritch Blasts him? The genuine fear in Scary's voice when she thinks she might've killed Link??? It's so much, truly it is. I'm SO excited for whatever Matt and Beth have planned with their characters going forward, and while it's not my personal cup of tea romantically, I truly do love the gothcleats relationship!

They're so strange and bizarre separately and even MORE strange and bizarre together and their devotion to each other is so so so very precious to me. Like. Their story makes me so unhinged actually I am so glad they exist. Mercedes really truly takes all of Henry's oddities in stride and he does the same for her,,, their cute little nicknames for each other,,, they would lay down their lives for each other without a second thought and I love them so much for that. I want nothing but happiness for them forever and ever and ever ok (looks pointedly at the current state of s2). I am a Hencedes stan first and a person second thank you <333

Okok next: Glennry!

In case you haven't realized. *Slaps "HUGE MULTISHIPPER" sticker on my forehead* like yourself, Baba, I also contain multitudes 😌 Anyway Glennry is SO fun to rotate around in my head, personally. I think they could learn quite a bit from each other as partners - with Glenn, Henry could get a bit more in touch with his rebellious side, and Henry could help Glenn in his struggles with emotional vulnerability. Their friendship works well as is in canon, obviously (well, s1 canon since we're not entirely sure what's going on with s2 Henry yet), but the potential of them as romantic partners is so great and so fun! They should kiss. For funsies. At least to piss off Bear Ry'Oak, if anything else <3

Up next: Sparrow/Nicky (/Spark/lovesong/highjinx/whatever other fun names exist for these two)!

And if I told you Spark was my latest obsession. What then. Literally I have been losing my mind over them for the past few days (thanks Nyx and Ivy <3) and I show no signs of regaining normalcy anytime soon!!! I just think there is SO much potential for exploring a romantic relationship between the two of them - or even something like a qpr, if you wanna go the Sparoace route! Literally could not get to sleep last night because I was thinking about them so hard. Similarly to Oakworthy, both Nick and Sparrow have such deep-seated issues regarding identity - Sparrow seems to define himself by being half of a matched set and doesn't really let himself be anything other than the Sparrow part of Lark-and-Sparrow. Nicky, of course, has. Gestures at the entire latter half of s1. And I think that if anyone can understand what either of them are going through, it's each other - and maybe they can just exist together. Without labels or expectations - not Nicholas, Jodie's son, or Sparrow, the more stable twin, or Nick, Glenn's son - just being Nicky and Sparrow and maybe also being in love. I also just think the imagery of it is wonderful - druid and demon, summer and winter, life and death, plant life and fire. Real Hades-and-Persephone type shit, which I personally love to see!

And lastly, finally, Nark!

So sorry to all the Nark stans out there but Sparrow/Nick has so thoroughly taken over my brain. I do love the idea of this ship - not only the aesthetics (hehe the demonic savior and the fallen angel), but the tragedy of it all - how the love may have been there, and in another world it may have been enough, but that world isn't this one. I have read many a Nark fic and I'd be hard-pressed to find one I didn't like, but it's not my go-to ship, personally. On another note, though, I do think Nark has some hilarious comedic potential as well - especially when paired with other ships like Sparrow/Cassandra (thank you tumblr user llumimoon for that particular piece of fanart - you know the one, I'm pretty sure you still have it pinned, Baba). But yeah! Fun ship - not my personal fave, but one that's very, very neat to pick apart and analyze!

Sense8 AUs

This is a TV show I binged in two days and I absolutely loved it... I would even more if there were less nudity and sex scenes. So, FAIR WARNING if you want to try it out.

There are some Sense8 AUs on AO3 but none I've really wanted to read. But I'm probably going to try some out anyway bc I looove this concept.

So, some things you'll need are:

To watch the show lol, it's great and really gay. So, it's a good watch for pride! It's on N*tflix. It's only two seasons since it got cancelled 😭

Anywho, some lore from the show is that eight people from around the world are psychically and empathically linked. Kinda like a soul bond AU. (EDIT: their ability and link is called a sensorial link. There's more info about it on superpowerwiki)

They all need to be the same age, so if you're doing a crossover make sure they are.

For example, Buffy The Vampire Slayer goes from 16-22 in her show and Steve Harrington (Stranger Things) goes from 17-19. So, you could use these two.

It's not required but a variety of locations is preferred and I think would be more interesting. Like Buffy is in California and Steve is in Indiana. But also like Nakajima Atsushi (BSD) is in Japan while they reside in america. Y'know, what I mean??

I also understand if most of the things you watch are located in the country you live in. One solution for this is using headcanons. Like, a popular headcanon is that Sero Hanta (MHA) is at least half Hispanic. So, he could reside in a different country of those origins. Or Aoyama Yuuga (MHA) acts like he's French (not confirmed I don't think) so there you go lol

Since it's fanfiction you can just make them all have the same birthday. Maybe you can even find characters the same age with the same birthday?? Kinda like how Shirakumo Oboro (MHA) and Atsushi were both born on May 5th. They are close in age, I'm sure aging Shirakumo up a year or Atsushi down a year would be fine.

They don't need anybody hunting them like in the show but I think that instantly gives you a plot.

Polyamory representation is not needed but I love to see it! Also QPR representation would be appreciated as well! Just like how both are in Sense8!

Also with crossovers, you'll have to decide which world your story is in. Like, are Buffy, Steve, and Atsushi in the 90s fighting vampires and demons from Hell? Or are they fighting monsters from another universe in the 80s? Or are they fighting people with superpowers like they themselves might have in a more recent year? OR all the above just in the same time period? Alternatively, you can set it in like the Sense8 world where the world is mostly normal but sensates exist in secret (sensates are what the psychically linked people are called lmao).

you should not shame authors for marketing the representation in their wips in an effort to get their book in front of those who would want and need it most AND marketing your product solely based on checkboxes and tropes your work hits can be frustrating because it prioritizes identity over the actual contents of the story are statements that do coexist

for example (using one of my own wips, jenna the reaper): my book features a teen autistic black ace spec lesbian and her qpr partner/best friend who is an afro brazilian aroace dude. you should read it! buy it right now! (well you can’t cuz i’m not working on it right now but you get the idea).

this information is GREAT to know for people who are black or afrolatino in some way and want to see rep of themselves, GREAT for someone who wants to see ace/aro spec characters take a center stage and see more attention given to a qpr instead of a traditional romance. as far as you can tell this has everything you’re looking for in a story!

but let’s say, you don’t like reading horror. it makes you uncomfortable or squicks you out for some reason. but you pick up jenna the reaper anyway just based on the summation of what Types of characters are in the book.

well, SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER this book is horror!! and now you’ve gone and bought a book you can’t fundamentally enjoy because by me not telling you what the story is ACTUALLY about ON TOP OF what types of characters it represents, it’s left you in the dark and you’re unable to curate your own space!!

i am all for more representation in books. i check of several boxes myself and i want to see more of me in media. every marginalized person does. HOWEVER. THAT. DOES. NOT. MEAN. I. WILL. LIKE. EVERYTHING. THAT. IS. PRESENTED. TO. ME. i don’t care if a book features trans masc mcs. what is it about? i hate coming out stories regardless of what the context is, therefore even if you say oh this mc is a transmasc vampire for instance, if the story is about him coming out i don’t want to read it. it’s my right to be able to curate what media i want to read regardless of how much or how little the representation of myself is. and it’s your right too!! it’s everyone’s right!! the only way that we will get past this issue is to have more queer and marginalized characters in stories generally speaking and to make their identities the cherry on top. if you were to tell me for instance, that you were writing a magical cowboy story where the mcs are forced to face the emotional demons of their past— i’d be into it!! but THEN you add on top of that that the mc is trans masc and the story has nothing to do with him coming out, IM READING IT ALREADY!

marginalized identities should add to a story not be the sole fucking point of the story. that’s why we have this constant media barrage of boring copy paste coming out story after coming out story after oh society treated me bad for my identity or blah blah blah like y’all. Macaron - Yes, they like themself! Or that's what they'd say if asked, anyway, it's never something they've thought about extensively :] Alabastrine - He knows he's pretty, has a few doubts about his personality. Though he would like to be a little shorter, he's small for a SandWing. Florence - Yes. What? Maybe. She's pretty and gets told it a lot, [and has accepted it] but she doesn't care, and would probably prefer to be less pretty. She gets a lot of people asking her out and finds it distracting lmao. Hellion - He didn't used to like himself but he does now, he's happier getting to dress like an emo teen even in his forties. Intimacy; Macaron - Aromantic..they might be okay with a longterm QPR but they'd need to trust that dragon a lot. They don't really have the...time right now. Alabastrine - Been on a few flings in his life, usually just for entertainment between him and whoever it was. There was never really any spark but it's nice to have someone to be affectionate with for a bit. He's hoping his current relationship will last. Florence - Dislikes the idea of flings, needs time to get to know someone before she even lets them know most things about her. She's never been incredibly interested in romantic relationships, really. Hellion - This man was known for having a lot of partners back in his younger days, and still has a few he hangs around with now !! Nothing serious, he doesn't want the scene that happened with Veros to happen again. Always been romantic though. Family; Macaron - They're very close with their family! I haven't picked them out or named them yet but they have three siblings, both parents, and several cousins. They all love each other lots :) Alabastrine - Not very close with any of her family...his father is distant and literally unreachable, being the prince, his grandmother wants him dead, and his mother has a tense relationship with him. He's not fond of any of them either. Florence - None of her family is left alive. Hellion - Knows of Strina, doesn't like to acknowledge his existence. Close with his mother [he was her favourite child for a long time], vaguely positive relationship with his father, doesn't see his brothers enough but they all kind of dislike him because he was Iurus' golden child, and he dislikes his younger sister. Loss; No for everyone except Florence ! Her entire family [twin brother + parents] is dead, she misses them - especially her brother - a lot. She didn't take his loss well, but they were able to mourn their parents together before that and it made it a little bit better. Losing him is part of why she's so closed off.

Future; Macaron always looks forward to seeing their family when they get breaks from work long enough to visit, they normally end up in a big cuddle pile of SilkWings for a few hours.
