PART ONE
Why was Jeon Jungkook at the Communications building?
He had a red and white leather jacket on top of a white shirt, jeans, and his black combat boots. His long hair was a mess, which you guessed was due to his helmet, and when he saw you walking down the steps of the building, he perked up, smiled, and waved at you.
At first, you weren’t even sure if it was you he was waving at, so you were a bit stunned, and looked over your shoulder. But then, you heard your name called by him. You and Jungkook were not friends. Sure, you exchanged friendly nods at each other whenever your paths would cross, but that was the end of it. In fact, the only reason why you even exchanged those friendly nods was because of Taehyung—your cousin who also happened to be his best friend since preschool. If it wasn’t for him, you and Jungkook would just pass by each other without so much as a glance.
And so, it was only natural that you were confused and surprised when you saw him leaning against his motorcycle in front of your college’s building, apparently waiting for you.
“Y/N, hey,” Jungkook greeted with a smile on his handsome face once he was near you.
Still confused, you returned the smile, adjusting the strap of your backpack hanging over your shoulder. “Hi, Jungkook. Is everything okay?”
He nodded. “Yeah, everything is—everything’s fine,” he said. Then, he cleared his throat. “Do you have time like right now? My treat.” He asked, his doe eyes piercing into yours.
You could not believe what you just heard. “What?” Was all you could reply.
Jungkook chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck with his gloved hand. “I know. It’s a shock, right? Believe me, I am too, but I just really need to talk to you about something. I wouldn’t bother you if it wasn’t so important.”
“Is it about Taehyung? Is he okay? Did he get into trouble?” You asked, alert. It was the only logical answer why Jungkook waited for you and why he wanted to talk to you. Taehyung was the only person connecting the both of you.
Jungkook shook his head. “No, no, it’s not about Taehyung, but he’s fine. He’s in his class right now. Look,” he sighed deeply, licking his lower lip with the tip of his tongue before staring at you once more. “Yiseul, I just really need to talk to you. In private.”
You debated whether to go with him or not. This was Jeon Jungkook. Despite his tattoos, broad shoulders, piercings, and big bike—he was harmless. He was your cousin’s best friend, and even though you two weren’t friends, he looked like he needed one at the moment. Besides, you wouldn’t deny that a part of you wasn’t curious as to why he needed to talk to you. That and the fact that because you had been in love with him since you met him when you were thirteen, how could you say no to something that you had only imagined in your wildest dreams?
“Okay. Okay, let’s go,” you agreed, heart beating rapidly. “Where are we going?”
Jungkook’s smile widened when you agreed. “There’s a basement cafe twenty minutes from here. It’s called Seven.”
The both of you began making your way towards his motorcycle. “Just how private is this conversation going to be?” you asked supposedly only for yourself, but accidentally, you said it out loud.
“I guess you already have an idea on how private it needs to be considering the location,” he chuckled. “But don’t worry—I promise you’ll get home in one piece.”
Jungkook handed you his extra helmet, and you were thankful that you didn’t wear a dress that day. After placing your backpack in front of your chest, you wore the helmet. “Can you give me a hint on what it’s about?”
You couldn’t help it. You were curious.
“I remember you always being curious, Y/N. Glad you haven’t changed at all,” Jungkook said, mounting his motorcycle. “In twenty minutes, you’ll know. If you ride now, you’ll know in fifteen minutes.”
You thought he looked so attractive as he smiled and waited for you on his motorcycle. His smile was so infectious that you couldn’t help but to return it. “Alright, fine,” you say. Then, you mounted his motorcycle, placing your hands on his firm shoulders.
“Ready?” Jungkook asked, placing his key into the ignition, briefly glancing at you.
“Yeah, ready,” you replied. He started the engine and you held onto your backpack for dear life. You had seen Jungkook drive his motorcycle before and the only way you could describe it was fast.
“Alright. Let’s go.”
Jungkook drove off.
Tumblr media
As promised, fifteen minutes later, you arrived at Seven. It was indeed a basement cafe, secluded from the busy city streets and tucked in between fruit stands and ready-to-wear clothes inside an alley. You were the first to get off his motorcycle, taking your helmet off. Shaking your head, you took in your surroundings while Jungkook took his motorcycle garments off.
The alley was alive with mostly elderly people buying fruits and high schoolers buying the RTWs. The tangerines stood out due to their bright color against the setting sun. You wondered when and how Jungkook came to know the place, if he frequented it, why he chose this place over all other cafes.
“Y/N? Let’s go inside?” Jungkook asked, gesturing to you to enter the cafe first.
You nodded, entering Seven. As a basement cafe, the first thing you noticed were the windows placed near the ceiling. A permanent sepia hue covered the entire establishment due to its yellow orange lights. The walls were painted gray, tables and chairs white. There were only a few tables and chairs, and Jungkook led the way to the one at the very back.
He pulled the chair out of you which you thanked him for, and you sat down. Jungkook followed afterwards, placing the helmets on the table between the both of you.
“What do you want?” He asked, pulling his chair closer to the table.
“Honestly, I’m more curious on why you want to talk to me than have any drinks here,” you told him, placing your backpack on the floor beside your chair.
Jungkook chuckled, leaning his back against his chair. “Alright. Should I just say it?”
You nodded.
“I was hoping that you’ll pretend to be my girlfriend to make Haemin jealous,” Jungkook said so casually that you were completely and utterly stunned. Did you just hear him correctly? Upon seeing your reaction, he continued, “She broke up with me a month ago, and to be honest, I saw it coming already. We were getting into a lot of meaningless fights, always finding faults in one another, and just overall, being toxic to each other. So, when she broke up with me, I did not put up a fight, and just let her be,” Jungkook scoffed, shaking his head lightly. “Then, I learned that she was seeing Han Riyeo, that fucking bastard from Yongsan, behind my back for three months, and I want to get back at her.”
His explanation did not help you grasp what he just said previously. You were still stunned, but you managed to ask, “Why me?”
“For reasons I still don’t know, Haemin was always jealous of you,” he confessed.
Now, that was a surprise. “What? You and I barely had any interaction.”
“I know, but I suspect it’s because you’re there whenever I hang out with Taehyung,” Jungkook shrugged his shoulders, then ran his fingers through his hair. “So? Will you help me, Y/N?”
“This is pretty childish, don’t you think?” you told him, eyebrows furrowed.
Jungkook crossed his arms over his chest. “I’ll pay you. I know you need the money. Taehyung mentioned you’re saving for the deposit on this apartment you want to rent.”
You stared at him, trying to find any trace of mischief in his eyes and body language but found none. Jungkook was serious. A part of you knew that the logical answer would be to decline his offer. It was childish, as you had told him. It was a nuisance and it would do nothing but bring problems and complications in your life. Your life was complicated enough, and you didn’t need to add Jeon Jungkook’s fake girlfriend to your list of complications.
But this was Jeon Jungkook. The person you had been in love with since you were thirteen. The person you supported, cheered on, and loved unconditionally from afar because it was all that you could do. You would be lying if you said that you did not imagine yourself being his girlfriend—going to every game, wearing his jersey, riding his motorcycle, going on dates, taking lots of photos and videos of him, hugging, and even kissing him—because you did, countless times. You would also be lying if you didn’t think that you could love him better than Haemin ever did.
They said love makes you do crazy things. You didn’t think that applied to you. You loved Jeon Jungkook, and you didn’t think that that love would fade anytime soon. So, even though you knew that this was pretend and paid, you said, “Okay. I’ll do it.”
After your orders arrived, the both of you continued your conversation.
Tumblr media
“So, how will this work?” you asked, sipping your iced chocolate drink.
Jungkook put up a finger, chewing the cheeseburger he ordered, and afterwards, he replied, “We act like a couple. Go on dates, post them on social media, and all that.”
You were never someone who did things half-assed. If you were going to get paid to fake date someone, you might as well go all out. Also, perhaps, a part of you just wanted to make the most out of being Jeon Jungkook’s fake girlfriend.
“I don’t think that would be enough to make Haemin jealous. If you really want that, we should do the things you either only did with her or promised to do with her,” you pointed out.
Jungkook nodded. “I see. You got a point.”
“So, what are those things? The things you did for her and the things you promised to do with her?”
He inhaled deeply, scratching the side of his nose as he thought. “Well, I pick her up everyday. Take her out on picnic dates, study with her, and I go to her recitals.”
You nodded. “Okay. Then, you should pick me up everyday, take me out on picnic dates, study with me, and well, I don’t really do any recitals.”
“Alright. I’ll do that,” Jungkook grinned. “As for the things I promised to do with her—the first thing that popped in my mind was that I promised I’ll take her to my brother’s wedding.”
“We shouldn’t involve our families in this. Me being Taehyung’s cousin is complicated enough,” you remarked.
“Okay. How about this? We made plans to go out of town during winter break. Do you wanna do that?”
“Where?”
“My sister-in-law runs a small resort in Busan. It’s by the beach,”
You pressed your lips together, nodding. “Okay. That could work.”
“For my part, you have to go to my games. That’s pretty much all you have to do, and of course, the dates.”
“That’s already a given,” you told him. “I’m assigned to cover your games this season.”
“Right. You are the News editor of the Times. I’m honored,” Jungkook placed a hand on his chest, bowing his head at you.
You chuckled, shaking your head. “I have a question.”
“Go for it.”
“What will happen when Haemin gets jealous? Will we “break up” and the two of you will get back together?” you asked, cautiously, but also curiously.
“I have no plans of getting back together with her,” Jungkook answered. “But when she finally gets jealous and tells me about it, then revenge is served. I guess then we’ll break up. But don’t worry, I’ll pay you handsomely every time so you could move into that apartment of yours. It’s the least I could do after you agreed to do this with me.”
It shouldn’t have stung the way it did. After all, this was only paid and pretend, but it did.
“Alright,” you said. “We should shake hands on it.”
You extended your hand toward him and Jungkook sealed the deal with his firm handshake. “Starting today, you’re my girl, Y/N.”
Tumblr media
You would be the first to admit that looking after Kim Taehyung was something you did out of debt of gratitude toward his parents. After your father passed away when you were only eleven years old, your mother couldn’t afford to send you to school, so his parents financed your education since then and until now that you were in college. You lived with Taehyung at the condominium they bought for him near the university and since you were on scholarship through your membership at the official student publication of Jamsil University, The Jamsil Times, they only paid for your miscellaneous fees every semester.
Because of these, you felt like Taehyung was your responsibility. You had to take care of him, look after him, tutor him, make sure he did all his school work, attend his classes, and be there every time he asked you to. It felt like when it came to him and his parents, you couldn’t say no because if you did, you could easily lose your housing and education.
It didn’t help that Taehyung seemed to attract trouble wherever he was. He even gained a nickname for it in high school which followed him in college, “Trouble Taehyung.” You couldn’t remember the times you apologized on his behalf, woke up in the middle of the night from a call from one of his so-called friends asking if you could pick him up as he was drunk and bruised, and ensured none of his troubles reached his parents.
Tonight was no different.
You woke up from the sound of your phone vibrating against your desk. You didn’t realize that you had fallen asleep, studying for your upcoming midterms exam, and when you woke up, you could feel the soreness of your neck and lower back. With one eye open, your vision adjusted to the bright light coming from your phone, and saw Park Jimin’s name flashing on your screen. Immediately, you knew why he was calling you. There could only be one reason: Kim Taehyung.
“Hello?” your voice was hoarse, groggy from your slumber.
“Y/N? I’m sorry I woke you up, didn’t I? It’s—,”
“Taehyung, I know. What happened this time?” you sighed deeply, rubbing your face with your free hand. “Where are you guys?”
“He got into an argument with this guy, and well, it led to a fight. He’s bruised, bleeding, but he refuses to go to a hospital, but—,”
“Hey! Is that Y/N? I told you not to call her, Park Jimin!” you could hear Taehyung’s voice in the background which made you sigh once more. Moments later, it was Taehyung who was on the call with you. “Y/N, sorry. Don’t worry about me. I’m fine. Jimin’s just a worry wart.”
“Taehyung,” you were tired and it was evident in your tone. “Go to the hospital if you’re bleeding. It might get infected.”
“I can’t,” he replied. “Mom is going to find out. It’s a small world, you know that,” his tone was low, cautious, as though he did not want anyone else hearing him. “I’m fine. I’ll put on some ointment and band-aid and I’m good.”
You wished you didn’t give a shit about him. But you did. Whether it was out of debt of gratitude or not, you wouldn’t be able to sleep if you didn’t help him. Perhaps, you had gotten so used to it that it had become a part of you already, like a hobby, like a memory.
“Where are you, Taehyung?”
“Y/N, seriously, I’m—,”
“Taehyung, just tell me where you are,” your patience was wearing thin and Taehyung knew that.
“We’re at Jungkook’s apartment,” he muttered.
Even the mention of his name was enough for the butterflies in your stomach to go crazy. Even by just hearing his name, your irritation seemed to slowly fade away.
“Okay. I’ll be there in a while. I’m gonna use your car, okay?”
“Okay. Y/N, I’m sorry,” Taehyung apologized and you could hear his sincerity.
“Don’t be,” you told him as you stood up from your chair. “See you. I’ll hang up now.”
Just how deep does blood run?
Tumblr media
You were at Jungkook’s apartment minutes later, thanks to no traffic and him only living fifteen minutes from Taehyung’s condominium. When you rang the bell to his unit, you already expected that he would be the one to answer the door. You just didn’t expect that he would be wearing gray sweatpants and a white loose muscle tee showing off his toned tattooed arm. Seeing him in that light, you couldn’t help but feel more attracted to him. Jungkook was truly a sight to see.
“Hey,” he greeted you with a smile. “Come inside.”
“Thanks,” you told him, entering his apartment. It was simple, neat, and smelled of vanilla. You took off your shoes by the doorway, placing a hand on the wall beside you. “Where’s Taehyung?”
“Kitchen,” he replied behind you. “Y/N,” his hot breath fanned over your exposed neck, making you shiver. “I’ll linger around you, alright? That way, they could get a hint that something’s going on with us. Is that okay?” he whispered.
His low tone was simply mesmerizing. “Okay,” you breathed out. Thank god you had your hand on that wall otherwise you would have literally fallen.
“Okay,” he chuckled, and led the way to the kitchen.
“Y/N!” Taehyung exclaimed when he saw you. He was sitting on one of the stools in the kitchen island while Jimin looked through the refrigerator.
You gave him a tight-lipped smile and made your way toward him, placing the plastic bag you hand in your hand on the counter beside you. Taehyung jumped off the stool he was sitting on, instantly giving you a squeezing hug. He was always an affectionate boy growing up. You weren’t so you found it uncomfortable at first. But the more Taehyung did it, you got used to it.
“Let me see your bruise,” you guided him back to the stool, and began taking out the first aid you bought along the way. The bruise wasn’t as serious as you thought it would be. You were expecting that he would have a black eye, a deep cut that would need stitches, but it was manageable by you. Jimin was overreacting, you concluded. “What happened? How did you get this?”
As you began to clean the cut on Taehyung’s cheek, Jimin sat down across from your cousin while Jungkook made his way near you.
“One minute I was dancing next to some girl, the next, her boyfriend landed a punch on my face. I didn’t know she had a boyfriend—she told me she was single,” Taehyung explained.
“Didn’t know my ass,” Jimin scoffed. “Everyone knows Heejin is with Taemin. Everyone also knows that Taemin’s a crazy jealous bastard. You were just looking for trouble, as always.”
“I was not,” your cousin retorted, throwing the medical tape you bought at his friend.
You clicked your tongue in annoyance. “Stop it, you two,” you hissed, pressing the cotton ball a bit harder against Taehyung’s bruise. He winced. “Is that true?” you asked him.
Taehyung didn’t answer. You sighed.
“You knew it was wrong, and yet, you did it anyway knowing it’ll just get you in trouble,” you muttered. “Why did you do it?”
Taehyung sighed deeply. “Because Taemin’s a piece of shit.”
“You’re also a piece of shit,” Jimin snorted. “Both of you are the biggest pieces of shit at Jamsil.”
“Do you wanna get punched?”
“Let’s go right now,”
“Hey, stop it. You’re so fucking loud,” Jungkook reprimands the two bickering men. “You already woke me up from my sleep by going here. Don’t wake up the entire fucking building.”
Moments later, you finished tending to Taehyung’s cut. “All done. Come on, let’s go home.”
Taehyun didn’t protest. You began to clean up your mess, placing everything back into the plastic bag. Silence filled Jungkook’s kitchen. The three of you weren’t close so there were no conversations where all of you could participate.
“Let’s go,” you bowed your head at Jimin as a farewell which he returned. Then, your eye caught Jungkook’s gaze. You weren’t sure what to do. Fortunately, Jungkook was quick-witted.
“I’ll walk you guys out,” he said coolly, pushing himself off of the sink he was leaning against.
“No need. Just go back to sleep. Thanks for letting us in,” Taehyung shook his head, patting his best friend’s shoulder as he passed by him.
“I insist,” Jungkook responded.
“Can I stay here tonight?” Jimin asked Jungkook as he made his way out of the kitchen.
“Yeah sure,”
You followed Jungkook and Taehyung out of the former’s apartment. As you and your cousin slipped on your shoes, Jungkook waited outside his apartment.
“Are you mad at me?” Taehyung asked, meeting your gaze. “I’m sorry, Y/N.”
“I’m not mad at you,” you assured him. “But you have to stop involving and getting yourself into trouble, Tae. Sooner or later, you’ll end up getting really hurt.”
“I will, I promise,” he smiled at you and you nodded, exiting the apartment.
The three of you walked down the hallway; the two boys walking on your sides. You weren’t sure if Jungkook was consciously doing it, but it was making your heart pound. Whenever your fingers brushed against his, there was an electric shock that flew through your body. And as you reached the end of the hallway and in front of the elevator, and when the doors opened, Jungkook placed his hand at your lower back, gesturing you to enter the lift first.
You looked at him, and there was a knowing smile plastered on his face that made you blush. “After you,” he said.
You were fucking lovestruck.
Tumblr media
Championships cast a spell in your school. Jamsil University’s premier sport was basketball and with an all-star lineup this year—it was not even up for discussion that your university would be one of the teams playing out to become this year’s champions.
To say the least, sports were not your thing. While you understood the basics, it wasn’t something you were interested in. Your father had enrolled you in a tennis class once but after witnessing how, simply out, awful you are at the sports, he dropped the ‘I want my daughter to be athletic’ narrative he was going for. That being said, you rarely attended any of the games Jamsil athletes participated in. But seeing as you were assigned to cover the basketball games this season, you had no other choice. Besides, your “boyfriend” was playing.
That’s how you found yourself at the gym of Jamsil, stressed as you took pictures and typed down the game on your phone. Frustrated, you sat on the bench behind you as the bell rang, signaling the end of the first half. As you read the draft on your notepad, you shook your head at the numerous times you used the word ‘tackle’—in your defense, it was all that you could see during the game. It was a particularly brutal game which made you wonder, was the game something more personal for the players? You only heard rumors, after all.
With a sigh, you made a mental note to fix the notes once you’re home. Standing up, you placed the phone inside your jeans’ back pocket and readied the Times’ camera to capture the ‘Half-time huddle’ that Bang Chan, the Sports Editor, had specifically asked you to take. As you made your way towards the basketball team, you took some shots of the audience as well as the Jamsil’s Cheerleading Team performing in the middle of the court. The blaring music and loud cheers from both schools as the cheerleaders performed filled the entire gymnasium, unconsciously making you smile. It was not everyday that you saw some sort of unity at your uni.
You focused your camera on the huddled team of Jamsil but dissatisfied, you tried another angle. Bang Chan’s words play in your mind: “The half-time huddle is one of the most important shots during these games, Y/N. The play they’re setting up will either make them or break them. Make sure you capture it.”
Then, the idea hit you. You hurriedly made your way on the other side of the team, hearing Coach Song’s booming voice telling his players the game even with all the screaming and cheers. You moved the towels and water bottles on the bench aside, then you stepped on it and placed the camera above the huddled team. Smiling, you knew you found the perfect angle. Making sure that the camera was focused, you inhaled deeply and as you were about to click the shutter button—a face turned to face the lens and a gasp escaped your lips, shocked and you felt yourself losing balance. Bracing for impact, you clutched the camera tightly against your chest and closed your eyes with one thing in mind: If this breaks, I am so screwed.
It felt like eternity as you waited for the impact. Opening your eyes, you see a pair of round brown eyes, staring at you in concern, eyebrows furrowed. Your breath hitched in your throat as realization hit you. Around your waist, you felt strong arms supporting you; hot breath fanned your face and you felt something liquid dripping on your forehead.
“Y/N, are you okay?” When he spoke, you immediately snapped back to reality and you wriggled yourself out of his grip—flustered and ground-swallow-me-up embarrassed. Your cheeks were burning as you collected yourself. “Y/N?”
It was as if the entire gymnasium had their focus on you and Jungkook.
“Jeon, what the fuck, get back here,” Coach Song hissed.
Fuck me, you thought as you cleared your throat. “Thanks,” you whispered to him.
Jungkook smiled—the boyishly charming smile that made you fall in love with him all those years ago. Then, he did something that made you fall in love with him all over again.
“Wish me luck, babe,” Jungkook said before wrapping his tattooed arm around your waist and placing a kiss on your cheek. “The game’s on, Y/N. No turning back now.”
You wished this was real. His kiss was real. But even if it wasn’t, indeed, there was no turning back now. The game had begun.
Tumblr media
PART TWO
As predicted and expected, Jamsil won the championship. But instead of the student body celebrating the fourth championship in a row, apparently, the majority could only talk about you and Jungkook—specifically the kiss he gave you on the cheek. You had expected this, of course. After all, Jeon Jungkook was Jamsil University’s golden boy. He was popular, smart, and overall, an exemplary student who not only excelled in his sports, but in his academics as well. Moreover, he was also the president of the photography club.
What you didn’t expect was Taehyung lashing out at you. You expected him to be confused, baffled, in disbelief, but lashing out at you? You were confused, to say the least. Taehyung had never done it before.
After finishing covering the basketball game, you hurriedly made your way back to the Publication Office. Once there, you took off the camera around your neck, breathing heavily. With both your hands on your table, you hung your head low, squeezing your eyes shut, and letting yourself calm down. It was during this moment that the door at the office swung open and your cousin stepped in.
You looked at him over your shoulder and for the first time, you saw fury in his eyes.
“You’re dating Jungkook?” He asked. “Tell me the truth.”
With your lips pressed tightly, you nodded. Taehyung scoffed, tilting his head to the side, and shaking it in disbelief.
“Are you fucking kidding me, Y/N? You and Jungkook?” He pressed, taking a step towards you. “When did it start? How did it start? Why are you dating him?”
“I don’t really need to explain myself to you, Taehyung,” you told him. “Especially who I’m dating.”
“Yes, you do. You need to explain that to me,” he retorted.
“Why? Why do I need to explain it to you?”
“Because you’re dating my fucking best friend and you’re my cousin!” He exclaimed, catching you off guard as you flinched. When he saw this, Taehyung’s eyes softened. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to raise my voice at you. I just—I don’t get it.”
“What don’t you get?” you asked, turning to completely face him. “Why someone like me is with someone like him?”
“Y/N, that’s not what I mean,” Taehyung sighed deeply. “I just feel like—like the two most important people in my life betrayed me.”
You exhaled deeply. In a way, you could understand him. You could understand where he was coming from. But before you could respond, Jungkook appeared by the doorway of the office.
“Don’t get mad at her, Tae, it’s my fault for not telling you first,” Jungkook said. He was still in his jersey, covered in sweat, and one hand holding a bottle of red Gatorade. There was a towel hanging around his neck. He walked towards you, and when he stood beside you, he held your hand. “I’m sorry if you feel like we betrayed you. We just wanted to find the right time to tell you.”
“Right time,” Taehyung scoffed once more. “It didn’t look like it when you kissed her.”
Jungkook squeezed your hand. It sent a jolt throughout your body. “What was I supposed to do? My girlfriend was there,” Jungkook’s response only riled Taehyung more. Upon seeing this, the basketball player said, “Alright, alright, I’m sorry. But there’s nothing you could do or say that could make us break up, Tae. I’m sorry but you’re just gonna have to deal with it.”
“Can you fucking leave? I need to talk to Y/N privately,” Taehyung hissed, rolling his eyes.
This time, you cut Jungkook before he could reply. “It’s okay, Jungkook. I’ll see you after.” You looked at your fake boyfriend, smiling at him.
Jungkook looked like he didn’t want to leave so you squeezed his hand. He clicked his tongue, sighing. “I’ll change and meet you outside the building.” It wasn’t a question but a statement.
You nodded and once again, he pressed his lips against your cheek, making you blush but now, out of embarrassment because your cousin was literally in front of you. Taehyung groaned, throwing his head back. “Leave, Jeon Jungkook!” He exclaimed, pulling him off of you.
Jungkook chuckled before making his way out of the office.
Once he was out of earshot, Taehyung stepped closer towards you. “Y/N, you’re right—who you date is not something I should mind or dictate. But you’re my cousin and I care about you and I don’t want you to get hurt. Jungkook—he’s my best friend in the world and has been since we were little. I know him. So, the two of you together—I just can’t accept it.”
You didn’t know why you were feeling angry as the seconds passed. “We’re not asking for your blessing, Taehyung.”
“Y/N, you don’t understand. Jungkook may be charming and all that goody two shoes shit in front of everyone, but he’s trouble. You’re only setting yourself up for a lifetime of heartbreak,” your cousin shook his head. “Please. Date whoever you want; not just Jungkook.”
“I made up my mind, Tae,” you said, shaking your head. “I want to be with him and you can’t do anything about it. I’m gonna go home. I’m tired and exhausted. I know you’ll be going to the afterparty so please don’t get yourself into trouble. Take care, Tae.”
“Y/N,” he called out but you didn’t respond anymore. You just packed up your things. “Y/N, please.”
“See you at home, Tae,” you gave him a small smile before leaving the office.
Why was he so adamant that you don’t date Jeon Jungkook? This question popped in your head as you were making your way out of the Communications building. But you erased it in your mind—Taehyung was just shocked, probably weirded out too that his best friend and cousin were dating.
Why is he trouble? Another question propped in your mind.
You sighed deeply. All these questions would be answered when you meet with Jungkook as you made a mental note to ask him. For now, you just wanted to rest.
Tumblr media
The buzzing sound of your phone vibrating against your desk woke you up from your slumber. With a groan, you sat up, stretching your arms wide, cracking your neck, and letting out a relieved sigh. You didn’t know when you fell asleep, but the last thing you remembered was fixing your planner. When you looked at the caller ID, Jungkook’s name flashed on the screen. For a moment, you were confused why he was calling you, and then it hit you.
I’ll change and meet you outside the building.
You quickly answered the call. “Jungkook, hey.”
“Y/N, are you okay? I waited for you outside the Comm building, but Taehyung said you went home. I’ve been trying to reach you,” Jungkook sounded concerned, in contrast to the sound of cheering and music in the background. He must have been at the afterparty already, you concluded.
“I’m okay,” you assured him. “I’m sorry. I was just tired so I went home. Are you at the afterparty?”
“Yeah,” he replied. “The guys dragged me to it, but it’s not really fun. Or maybe I’m just not in the mood. I’m glad you’re okay though. I was worried.”
Your heart fluttered yet again.
“I’m okay. Have fun at the afterparty,” you said, rubbing your eye with your knuckle.
“Y/N, I was hoping you could come tonight, here, at the afterparty, and start our agreement.”
Just like that, you were reminded of reality.
“Oh,” you replied, hoping you didn’t sound disappointed. “Um, I don’t know where that is.”
It was common knowledge that invitations for after parties at Jamsil for championships were only through word of mouth. Not everyone was invited. The only reason you knew of the location of the last three after parties were because of, again, your cousin Taehyung.
“It’s okay, I’ll come pick you up.”
“I don’t know what I should wear. I don’t go to a lot of parties,” you said, playing with the loose thread on the hem of the shirt you were wearing. It was a habit of yours whenever you were nervous—you needed to play with something whether it was your necklace, earrings, rings, sleeves, etcetera.
“It doesn’t matter. You look good in everything, Y/N. I’m serious,” Jungkook responded. “I’ll be there in fifteen minutes, okay? Don’t worry too much about what to wear. Just wear what’s comfortable.”
“Okay. Drive safely, Jungkook.”
When the phone call ended, you were reminded of what tonight would be, and gone were the worries about what you should wear. Tonight was going to be the night you were going to officially begin helping Jungkook take his revenge on Haemin. You felt like throwing up.
You were hit by the reality, once again, of what this agreement was about. Jungkook wasn’t being sweet to you because he wanted to but because he needed to. He wasn’t inviting you to the afterparty because he wanted to but because he needed to. He was only talking to you because he was paying you. It was time for you to take things at face value. With that in mind, you began to change.
True to his word, Jungkook arrived fifteen minutes later. It was a whiplash when you saw him at the door, waiting for you instead of your cousin. Wearing a white Calvin Klein shirt tucked under his washed jeans, black combat boots, and his curly hair parted in the middle, he was nothing short of beauty even in the simplicity of his attire. In one hand, he was clutching a denim jacket.
“Hey,” he greeted as soon as you opened the door. “You look great, Y/N.”
You suppressed the urge to smile and just nodded. Stepping outside of Taehyung’s condominium unit, you avoided his gaze. “Let’s go.”
“Is everything okay?” he asked.
You nodded, clutching the strap of your messenger bag. “Everything’s fine. Let’s just go. Where’s the afterparty anyway?”
“Y/N,” Jungkook’s hand found its way gently around your wrist, stopping you on your tracks. “Seriously, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong, Jungkook. I just really wanna get over this,” you said with a sigh.
“I don’t believe you,” he pointed out, still holding onto your wrist. “We don’t have to go to the afterparty if you don’t want to.”
“No, let’s go. Otherwise, how will you make Haemin jealous?” you stated, plastering a smile on your face even though you were anything but happy. “The sooner she gets jealous, the sooner she will want to be with you again, and the sooner I’ll get my deposit, and move out from here. The sooner everyone wins.”
There was an indescribable expression on Jungkook’s face. Although his grip on your wrist remained gentle, you could feel the tension brewing between the both of you.
“You’re right,” he muttered after a while. “Let’s get this over with.”
Tumblr media
As expected, the afterparty was at a club. You hadn’t been to one but it was exactly as you expected a club to be. Packed with dancing college students, drinks everywhere, smoke in the air, suffocating you the moment you entered the establishment, blinding red, blue, green lights, and booming EDM and Top 40 hits songs blasting on the speakers. Jungkook led the way, holding your hand tightly, and you held his just as tight. You didn’t know where he was taking you, but you guessed that it was where Haemin would be. After all, she was the reason why you were here.
So, it was a surprise when you passed by her and her friends, and toward the staircase.
“Jungkook! Where are we going?!” you yelled over the loud music. .
Jungkook didn’t respond, but you knew that he heard you because he pulled you closer to him. And you let him lead you because it was him. You’d let him lead you anywhere if it meant being this close to him. Because no matter what you tell yourself—that this was all fake and pretend and paid—a part of you would always, always believe that he, in some way, reciprocated your feelings sincerely.
Jungkook passed by the people greeting him along the way until, finally, you reached the empty rooftop. Overlooking the city and its skylines, it was simply breathtaking. There were only broken benches, bottles of beers and discarded cigarette buds on the rooftop along with cracked pots of withered flowers. Here, Jungkook let go of your hand, reached for something from his denim jacket’s pocket—a pack of cigarette and lighter—and offered it to you.
“I don’t smoke,” you simply stated. It was news to you that he smoked. You knew athletes were forbidden due to health reasons, but you weren’t also naive that you didn’t think some did.
He nodded, picked one from the box, placed it in between his lips, lit it up, and began to smoke. You took a deep breath, and made your way toward the edge of the rooftop. Moments later, Jungkook was beside you.
“Tell me something I don’t know about you,” he said, the smell of cigarette strong, making you nauseous. But you didn’t tell him that.
You thought hard. Jungkook knew nothing about you besides being Taehyung’s cousin. It shouldn’t be that hard but it was, for some reason. And so, you said, “There’s really not much that you should know.”
To which he replied, “Oh, come on, there must be something,” He nudged your side slightly, letting out a chuckle as he took a long drag. “Don’t think too hard. Just tell me the first thing that comes to your mind.”
And so, you did. Before you knew it, you said, “I haven’t had my first kiss yet.”
“Seriously?” Jungkook asked, but it wasn’t in the disgusted, you’re-in-your-twenties-and-yet-you-haven’t-kissed-somebody kind of way. It was more of a genuine shock. Like it was the hardest thing in the world to believe in.
You chuckled, nodding. “I don’t know. I just feel weird about it.”
“But were there any instances where you came close to kissing somebody?” he pressed, flicking his cigarette.
“Of course, but when it came to it, I just couldn’t. It just didn’t feel…” you trailed off, unsure of what the right word was.
“Right?” Jungkook suggested and you nodded. “I see.”
“How about you?” you asked. “Tell me something I don’t know about you.”
“I want to be somebody’s first kiss, and that somebody happens to be you.”
He was the only one who could do it—cause your heart to do somersaults inside you while also making it beat so fast that you were afraid he would hear it. It was the way he stared at you at that moment, eyes flickering from your eyes which reflected the cityscape below you and the smoke from his cigarette to your parted lips, unsure of what to say from his revelation.
“Do you think it’d feel right if I kiss you, Y/N?”
And like always, your mind and heart screamed: this was Jungkook. Who else would you want to be your first kiss? Since you were thirteen, you had been in love with him. You only imagined this in your head, in your wildest dreams.
And so, you nodded, afraid that if you spoke, no words would leave.
Jungkook nodded too, and he crushed his cigarette on top of the edge of the rooftop. He stepped towards you, cupped your face, and for a moment, the world stood still. Closing your eyes, you waited for his lips to crash onto yours.
And when it finally did, it was nothing that you had ever imagined.
No sparks.
No fireworks.
It was simple, mundane, ordinary—it was a kiss.
You held onto Jungkook’s wrists as he deepened the kiss, and yet, there were still none of the romantic aspects that you thought would happen during your first kiss. Even when Jungkook moved his hands from your face and around your waist, nothing. It tasted so bitter due to the mix of nicotine and beer that he had.
But you didn’t mind. You were kissing Jeon Jungkook, your fake boyfriend, at a party, where all his peers were. And for that, your first kiss was still memorable.
Oh, how Jeon Jungkook twisted your world.
Tumblr media
PART THREE
You had no recollection whatsoever of what happened last night; much less how you got back to your shared condominium unit with Taehyung. But if you were to guess, your cousin probably brought you home as you vaguely remembered him being at the afterparty—much to his chagrin that you came with his best friend. Other moments were like missing puzzle pieces. You only remembered flashes, and you groaned when you felt the throbbing in your temple became stronger.
Usually, you could hold your liquor better than this. In fact, this was the first time, in a long while, that you could remember having a hangover. Your mother was your drinking buddy—started drinking with you when you were a junior in high school, and although she shouldn’t have done that, you didn’t mind. Your mother was a great mother. Your mother was your best friend. Your mother was a great parent. Yes, she had her shortcomings, but who didn’t? Certainly not you. You remembered the first time she asked you to try Soju, and subconsciously, it brought a smile to your face, and a low chuckle to escape your lips. You made a mental note to text her later.
As you left your bed, there was a knock on your bedroom door. Knowing it was your cousin, you told him to come in while you fixed your bed, and looked for your phone in the process.
“Your phone’s in your bag,” Taehyung muttered as he stepped inside your room, and leaned against the wall of the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest. “I brought you home too. Jungkook wanted to, but he rode a motorcycle, and you were wasted. It wasn’t safe.”
You nodded in understanding. You figured out that much. Like what Taehyung said, your phone was indeed inside your bag. Quickly, you unlocked it, and checked your notifications. Some were just annoying spam emails, app notifications, and automated messages from your SIM provider, but there was one message that made your heart beat quickly due to panic that you didn’t even notice Jungkook’s message.
“Y/N, I need to talk to you,” Taehyung said.
“We will talk, but not right now, I’m late for my tutoring session, Tae,” you hurriedly told him as you texted your tutee that you would be late, but that you would come since it was his midterms next week.
“Y/N, I’m serious. I still don’t approve of you and Jungkook dating.”
You should have expected this. In the years you spent with Taehyung, you should have known that he wasn’t the type of person who could accept “no” as an answer, and not getting what he wanted when and if he wanted it. You thought it only applied to everything else in his life; apparently, it also applied to your dating life.
“Taehyung, haven’t we gotten over this? Who I date is not yours to dictate,” you shook your head, sighing deeply as you gathered everything you needed for your quick shower. You were definitely not going to attend your tutoring session dressed from last night, and smelling like beer and nicotine.
“Jungkook’s a piece of shit as a boyfriend, Y/N. He’s crazy possessive and he gets so fucking jealous. His charming persona is just that—a persona. I don’t want you to get hurt by him, Y/N, please.”
The desperation in his voice was evidently obvious. When you looked at him, you were unsure of what to say. How could he say that to his own best friend?
“If he’s like that—,”
“He is like that,”
“Then why are you still friends with him?” you asked, pointedly. When Taehyung couldn’t give you an answer, you nodded. “Right. I thought so. I’m going now, Tae. This conversation is over.”
Tumblr media
When you arrived at Jamsil’s library, you were forty five minutes late to your session with Yang Jungwon, a freshman from your program, Journalism with a major in Investigative Reporting. You found him in your usual spot, writing away on his yellow pad while nodding his head along the music he was listening to. Inhaling deeply, you made your way toward him. When you were finally near him, you tapped on his shoulder, causing him to jump a little, but when he saw you—his deep dimpled smile appeared on his face.
Yang Jungwon was like the little brother you never had but wished you had. You felt bad for thinking that way because you had Taehyung, but as stated, looking after him felt more like a responsibility you had no other choice but to take upon. With Jungwon, even though you were paid to help him with his studies, it never felt like a responsibility to you. You enjoyed spending time with him, helping him out, and sometimes, if the conversation steered into the direction, you enjoyed your deep and meaningful conversations with him.
You smiled back at him, and took the seat beside him, sitting on it. “I’m so sorry I’m late, Jungwon. You can tell your mom that she doesn’t need to pay me for this session.”
He shook his head. “No, noona. It’s okay. I didn’t mind the waiting. I got to use it to answer your mock tests.”
“Really? Let me see. What did you answer first?” you asked, taking your messenger bag off of your shoulder, placing it on the table.
“The Contemp—,” Jungwon began to say, but then he stopped, which caused you to tear your gaze away from the mock test in your hands, and to your tutee. You followed his gaze, and to your surprise, you saw Jungkook sitting across from you and Jungwon with a gentle smile on his face. He had his lip ring on—it was the first thing you noticed about him that day.
“Jungkook, what are you doing here?” you asked, swallowing the lump in your throat. Why did it feel like you were caught doing something you weren’t supposed to do? Why did you suddenly feel anxious?
Taehyung’s words rang in your ears: He’s crazy possessive. His charming persona is just that—a persona.
Was all of it true? Was that the reason why he was here? Because you were with another guy?
“I guess you didn’t read my message, babe,” he chuckled. “I told you not to buy lunch anymore because I cooked some for you. Here, you can share it with your friend…” he trailed off, politely smiling at Jungwon.
“H-Hello, I’m Yang Jungwon,” Jungwon stammered, starstruck that Jamsil’s golden boy was talking to him.
“Hello, Jungwon. It’s nice to meet you. You can just call me hyung,” Jungkook turned to you. “I’ll get going now, okay?” He pushed the lunch box towards you. “Eat. There’s hangover soup in there too.”
You gave him a look to which he grinned at. “Ah, don’t worry, Jungwon. She can tutor you even though she’s dr—,”
“Okay, thank you, Jeon Jungkook,” you interrupted him, making his grin wider. You shook your head at him, but you couldn’t hide the blush coating your cheeks from his sweet gesture. Then, you wondered, as Jungkook took his leave, did he do the same thing to Haemin?
“I didn’t know you and Jeon Jungkook hyung are dating,” Jungwon brought you out of your trance, gaze finally now upon him rather than the absent figure of Jungkook.
“Yeah, it just happened,” you said to him. “But come on, let’s focus on your mock tests.”
Yet despite saying that, you were the one who couldn’t focus because the only thing in your mind was: how did Jungkook know you were at the library?
Tumblr media
Taehyung’s words plagued your mind the entire day. Even while you were working, all you could think about was his words about his best friend. How could he say those things about Jungkook? Someone he’d been best friends with since they were little? Why was he so adamant about you not dating him? Taehyung usually kept a distance from your personal life, not even asking about your mother because he knew of the complicated relationship your family had with his family. So, why was he all over your case now that you were “dating” Jungkook? You couldn’t understand. You couldn’t wrap your head around it.
Although you confirmed with the library interaction that Jungkook wasn’t the possessive type, seeing as he just walked away after giving you the lunch box, and even let Jungwon call him hyung, there was still that nagging thought in your mind: what if Taehyung’s word held weight? What if they were true?
You thought about it: if they were true, even when you were only fake dating, would he still be as possessive as Taehyung said he was? What happened for your cousin to even tell you something like that?
Your thoughts were put on a halt when your manager called for your name. You worked as a part-time waitress at a restaurant called Rado. You used to be a full-time employee, but since you were in your last year of uni, you asked if you could still be employed on a part-time basis, and fortunately, your manager, Han Somin, agreed.
“Yes, Ms. Han?” you asked as you entered her small office inside the employees’ locker room.
“Y/N, hi, come inside, I just have something to tell you,” she said, taking her eyeglasses off, and kindly smiling at you. You nodded and did as told. “It’s nothing serious,” she continued, which alleviated the nerves sinking in your bones. “I just wanted to ask if you wanted to be part of this party we’re catering to on Saturday. It’s a listening party for an artist named J-Hope; he released a new album. Maybe you’ve heard of him.”
You shook your head. “No, Ms. Han. But I’d love to be part of the staff. Where would it be held?”
“It’ll be held at his label’s function room. I’ll send you the details, alright?” You nodded, then she dismissed you, and went back to work.
Money had always been a sensitive topic for you. Growing up, you knew that you didn’t have a lot but you were comfortable due to both of your parents’ wages. Your father was a simple office man while your mother had her own small flower shop. They were able to provide for your basic needs and wants but when your father passed away—your mother’s earnings at the flower shop weren’t sustainable. Hence, at an early age, you learned how to look for jobs, and learned the value of money and earning it. Hence, the reason why, besides loving Jungkook all your life, you simply could not half-ass fake dating him because it was innate in you that when you do a job, you give it your hundred percent.
Part of you wished you didn’t have to worry about your finances. That, like other students at Jamsil, you could have fun and enjoy college life without worrying if you would still have a roof over your head eve though you failed an exam or if you would still be able to eat the next day if you buy a food late at night because you were so hungry that you couldn’t sleep.
Having money meant having freedom to do all the things that you wanted to do—and you weren’t free. Not yet, anyway, but moving to your own place was a start. That’s why no matter what people say, you would see fake dating Jeon Jungkook through because whether you liked it or not—he was the key to your freedom.
Tumblr media
Saturday rolled around quickly. Adorned in your Rado’s uniform—a simple white linen long sleeve polo shirt, black slacks, black high heels, and your hair pulled back to show your face—you were already at the label’s function room preparing for the listening party of J-Hope. His music had been playing since you got there and you felt yourself being immersed and vibing to it that you made a mental note to check his other songs out afterwards.
You were in charge of the food and drinks. Ms. Han was also present to supervise and with you was your co-worker, Kang Seulgi, and Kim Hanbin. It was an intimate type of party; hence, the small group of staff and catering.
“I wonder who we’ll see here,” Seulgi told you as she placed the food fingers on the table while you poured drinks into the glasses.
“I heard it’s just indie artists that J-Hope invited. It’s the target audience for his album, you see,” Hanbin piped in, fixing his necktie.
“Whoever it is, I’m sure—,”
“Kim Y/N, it’s nice to see you here,”
You only heard that voice a couple of times but you wouldn’t mistake it for another. It was ingrained in your mind so deeply. It was the voice of the person you hoped was you for a long time—who got to touch, kiss, hug, care, and love Jeon Jungkook for four years. It was the voice of the person who was Jeon Jungkook’s first love, and most likely still loved. It was the voice of the person that was never going to be you in his life. It was the voice of:
“Lee Haemin.”
Tumblr media
PART FOUR (a sneak peek)
“Lee Haemin.”
In one word, she was beautiful. Dressed in a small black dress with thin straps and a pair of black heels, her silky black hair pulled back, showing off her idol-like face, Lee Haemin was just a sight to behold. Smiling at you, she took a step forward.
“Is it okay if we talk?” she asked.
As though you were hypnotized, you nodded wordlessly. A part of you already knew what the talk would be, or at least that’s what you thought. Nodding back, Haemin smiled at Seulgi and Hanbin before leading you out of the function room and somewhere more private. She opened a door leading to what seemed like the conference room, and gestured that you enter first so you did. She followed in suit, and you took a short time to look at your surroundings.
It was all white with an oval table in the middle and black swivel chairs surrounding it. Adjacent to you were the ceiling to floor windows, showcasing the city landscape. Connected at the top was a projector and on the left side was a projector screen. You wondered how Haemin got access to such room, and as though reading your mind, she said:
“My family owns a stock, if you’re wondering why I got access to this room. We can pretty much use any room in the company.”
Nodding your head, you turned to face her. “I see. That’s great. I didn’t know that.”
“Not many people do,” she answered. “But that isn’t really why I wanted to talk to you.”
“I know,” you replied. “You wanna talk about Jeon Jungkook.”
Haemin smiled. “I heard you’re dating him.”
“From who? Taehyung?” You knew they were friends. Not exactly close, but they were acquainted due to Jungkook.
She shook her head. “From Jungkook." Stunned, your mouth parted ways a little. Haemin smiled. "Surprising, I know, but it truly was him who told me that he was with you."
"Why would he say that to you?"
"Because he loved me first."
And it was the truth. The truth hurts but it was the truth nevertheless. You weren't the first person he ever loved, ever had a deep and humane connection with. Everything about your relationship was a lie, a cover up. Theirs was true and real. Jungkook loved Haemin; not you.
Forcing a smile upon your face, you answered, “He loves me now. I don’t see the point of having this conversation, to be honest.”
“No, he doesn’t love you, Y/N. He wants you. Those two things are different,” You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion. Hence, Haemin continued, “Loving someone lights up your world. Wanting someone, now that’s a different thing. To want something is to own it.”
“And your point? Jungkook wants to own me?” Even your words sent shivers down your spine. You loved Jungkook since you could remember. But did you want him to own you?
“Yes,” she replied. “Jungkook’s the type of person who gets and gets and gets and never likes to not have what he wants, what he needs. I’m telling you all these because prior to him dating you,” she smiled when she said ‘dating’ as though she knew it was only fake. “He lost me. Now he’s trying to get you to get me back, to own me again. But I don’t want that anymore. I don’t love him anymore. Don’t trap yourself. Get out as early as you can.”
You didn’t know what to say. So, you did the only thing you could do: walk away. But then Haemin called your name, and you stopped on your tracks, looking at her over your shoulder. “Don’t let love blind you, Y/N. I know you’ve loved him for years, but he’s only going to break you—mind, body, soul.”
“Thank you for the advice, Haemin,” you told her. “But I didn’t need it. Please respect my relationship with Jungkook. Thank you and enjoy the night away.”

“NOOO, no no no I GOT THIS, SIT DOWN MA’AM” Jay said, waving his hands dramatically as if he was trying to shoo you away from the kitchen.
“Don’t raise your voice at me fucker!” you said snorting with laughter.
“Yes, ma’am BUT SIT DOWN PLEASE-- I GOT THIS LOVE!” Jay tilted his head and waited for your reaction giving you an innocent look.
“PLEASE! I GOT THIS!”
“Okay! Okay I will…” you said with your hands up, slowly turning away from your boyfriend. You were standing in the kitchen. You just got back home from work and were about to start making dinner for the both of you. However, Jason had other plans and was making sure that you wouldn’t lift your finger.
“Soooo, what do we have on the menu chef Todd?” Jason smirked as he saw you folding your arms over your chest and leaning against the counter. He reached for an apron that was hanging near the stove.
His triceps rounded as he moved his hands behind his back to tie it on himself. They were pretty tightly squeezed by a short sleeve of his t-shirt. You were wondering whether he was purposefully flexing just to make you feel a certain way.
“I was thinking of a baked tomato soup. But-- I shall gladly fulfill my significant other’s…” he prolonged.
“-dining desires…as-- it’s my personal wish to suffice her stomach.” His words made you shake your head with a growing smile. God. This guy’s eloquence is truly admirable. So is his charm. And his warmth despite the hardships that life had thrown at him.
“Sounds good.”
“You sure?”
“Yep.”
“Sweet. Tomato soup it is.”
“How was work?” he continued.
“Could have been better honestly.  Collins had a problem again and decided to throw a fit at the end of the shift. Called in a meeting last minute just to scream his ass of for 20 minutes-- AS IF we could change anything.”
“Monica was late to pick up her son from preschool because of the asshole.” You continued your rant.
“Yeah, Collins has a knack for ruining everyone’s day,” Jay said, shaking his head as he rinsed his hands.
“It’s like the guy feeds off stress.”
“Exactly! And the worst part is, it’s not just me. Everyone’s been feeling it. EVEN Monica, who’s usually so calm, was on the verge of tears today. It’s just not fair.”
“Did she call you?” He asked.
“She texted me when I was entering our building.”
He shook his head no sympathizing with your work story.
“Ugh, I hate that for her. And for you,” Jay said, turning to face you. “You don’t deserve to deal with that crap every day.”
“Thanks,” you replied with a tired smile. “It’s just frustrating. I mean, we’re all trying our best, but Collins seems to think yelling at us is some sort of solution.”
“Man, I don’t know what to say… asshole’s pissing me off.” He licked his lips.
“And how is Jared doing?” Jay continued wanting to change the topic.
“He’s alright as far as I know.” You bit your lower lip.
“You know what? I actually thought about inviting them for dinner some time.” You said shyly.
Jay, still focused on the cutting board, looked up, noticing the slight hesitation in your tone.
“Why are you shying away like that?” he asked, with curiosity and concern in his voice as he turned to face you, pausing his chopping.
“Well, I wanna know-- if you’d have the energy and will to have guests over on your night off…?”
Jay walked over to the sink to wash his hands. He stepped away from the counters to kiss the top of your head as you were mentally supporting him in his cooking, watching from the tall bar stool.
“We can totally think about it, don’t worry about my energy.”
“I—Well I-- just didn’t want to overwhelm you--, you know? I know how hard you’ve been working lately, and I didn’t want to add more to your plate.”
Jay smiled, his eyes full of that familiar warmth that always made you feel at ease.
“I get it, and I really appreciate you looking out for me like that.”
“But honestly-- having them over might be just what we need. A break from the usual, a chance to relax, catch up with some good friends, and just enjoy each other’s company. It could be a lot of fun.” He continued.
„Plus, it would be a great opportunity to show off my cooking skills.” He said with a cheeky smile plastered across his face.
“Yeeeaah right…”
“Yeah right what?” Jay looked over his shoulder, pretending to be offended.
“’Kay hear me out-- how about we make a deal? If I can whip up the best tomato soup you’ve ever had, you have to admit I’m the better cook.”
“And if it’s-- just, okay?” you teased, biting your lower lip playfully. Jay leaned in closer, his voice deepened.
“Then maybe I’ll have to find another way to prove I’m the best at… handling things.”
“I like your confidence, Todd.”
“And I—like you Y/L/N.”

I should leave, I haven't yet, but when you smile, I just forget
↶ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊˎ-
You can swear this day can't get any worse. You’ve been on your feet basically the entire day, always rushing from your students here to there. You love the little kiddos with your entire heart, but today, for some reason, they are being an extra pain in the ass. They aren’t as cooperative as you’d prefer; you don’t know what’s gotten into them, they are like little energy packets constantly running around.
Due to some teacher duties you aren’t even able to sit down for your lunch break, taking away the only 15 minutes you have to yourself. And it just gets progressively worse when you finally leave the school to go back to your place and your car has a slashed tire, and today had to be the day when you don’t have a spare tire in your trunk.
It’s been over 6 hours since you left your house this morning, and it’s just Tuesday, but it’s feeling like the longest, most excruciating week ever. You’re now leaning against your car door, letting out a deep exhale as you lean your head back, feeling a headache creep into your brain and pulse harshly. You’re tired, hungry, absolutely exhausted… and all you want are the warm hugs of your boyfriend.
Your boyfriend.
Rafe is quite a new addition in your life, both of you being together for a mere month. He’s been so loving to you, always protective and just genuinely taking great care of you.
You pull out your phone and find his contact, but before you can dial him, your thumb hovers over his name in sudden realization – he’s always at work at this time.
You begin to contemplate your initial decision of asking him to come here to help you out, and then ultimately decide against it, realizing he’s probably very busy at work, and would only be heavily distracted if you call him.
So, just like how you always do it, you decide to take matters into your own hands.
↶ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊˎ-
It’s nearing 6 pm when you finally get to reach your place. You had to make calls to get yourself a mechanic to get your car fixed, who took his sweet sweet time to come to you. You’re now completely exhausted, wanting nothing more than just to plop on your bed and sleep till your heart desires. You can hear your stomach grumble since you never had the chance to eat the lunch you missed out on, but you make it a problem for later, deciding to just take a nap first.
As you drive into your driveway, you recognise Rafe’s black Range Rover already parked, with him standing next to it, leaning back against the hood of his car as he’s looking intently at his phone. As he catches the sound of your car driving, he instantly looks up, watching your car enter the driveway.
Before you can properly park and get out, Rafe rushes to you, opening the door for you.
“Oh my god where have you been?” He asks you, his voice laced with concern. “I tried calling you and texting you, you always come back home by late afternoon,”
You step out of the car and Rafe shuts the door, a hand quickly landing at the small of your back as you both walk to the porch of your house. He can see you’re really tired; droopy eyes, heavy steps, deep sighs; he knows something happened.
“Yeah my phone died,” you mutter as you unlock the main door of your house, both of you stepping inside. “I just… today was kind of a heavy day, nothing much honestly,” you shrug as you toss your keys in the dish and remove your coat and shoes.
“What happened?” Rafe asks, still really concerned for you as he watches you take off your cost and hang it on the coat rack. As you’re done, you face him with a small smile on your face.
“Nothing much, really,” you say softly, gently cupping his cheek with a hand and tenderly caressing his skin. “Don’t worry, yeah?” You mumble, taking your hand off his cheek as you make your way to the kitchen.
Rafe stays on your heels, following you and monitoring every single move of yours – your padding till the fridge, opening it, getting a bottle of water, unscrewing it and drinking from it.
“You look so exhausted, I can see it in your eyes,” he comments. “Your hair is all messy, your clothes are dirty; it’s clearly not nothing. Come on, tell me, what happened,”
His voice is stern, but not in an angry way; but in an apprehensive way. He moves his hand to your face, gently brushing your hair as he fixes some of the unruly strands.
As you finish drinking your water; drinking almost all of it in one go, you keep your bottle aside and let out a sigh, turning to look at him. “It was just one of those… heavy days, but it’s over now yeah? I’m now home,” you say softly.
“But just tell me what happened,” Rafe’s voice now drops to a whisper as he moves closer to you, continuing to weave his fingers through your hair.
You close your eyes for a moment, delving into the relaxing feeling of Rafe’s fingers softly combing through your hair, but also realizing he’s going to keep pressing for you to tell him what happened.
“The kids were a bit uncooperative today,” you say with a soft chuckle. “And then we have this event coming up at school, so I was busy for my entire lunch break preparing for it. And then my car had a flat tire and I didn’t have a spare so I had to get a mechanic, which took most of the time. But besides that, nothing much happened,” you say with a small shrug.
“Besides all that?” Rafe mutters incredulously. “That’s already a lot, baby, why didn’t you call me when you found out about your flat tire? I would’ve come; or sent someone to get you, we would’ve had lunch in my office, and I would have had someone take care of the tire and bring your car back too.” There’s a small frown on his face and he now holds your face in both his hands, gently skimming your cheeks with his thumbs.
You look up in his soft, baby blue eyes. “I did think of calling you but-”
“But?”
“But I thought…” you take a deep breath, your eye contact with him faltering. “you’ll be busy, and I didn’t want to be a burden to you, really, I was able to get it all fixed just fine,”
You can hear Rafe tsk; his tongue clicking against his teeth as he softly shakes his head. “I’m never busy for you okay? My work does not ever get more importance than you, okay? It never does, and it never will, especially when you’re in trouble and need help,”
He gently grips your chin and tips your head back just a bit, making you look at him. His eyes are softened, the blue even more warmer than usual.
“I know you prefer to do things on your own,” he whispers, “but you have to realise that you really don’t need to do each thing on your own, especially now that I’m around. I won’t mind, really, and besides, I would love to show everyone off at work that I am the boyfriend of the most beautiful person on this damn planet yeah?”
You can’t help but chuckle softly at his words as you keep looking in his eyes.
“So, promise me, next time you need any sorts of help, want me to do something for you, or just want me to be there, you don’t think twice about calling me up okay?” He says softly, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
He can see the reluctancy in your eyes, but you eventually give in and nod.
“Okay, promise,” you murmur, smiling as you wrap your arms around his waist, hugging him tightly. He gladly hugs you back, snuggling his face in your neck as he gently rubs your back.
“So…” you speak up, and he hums back in response, both of you still hugging.
“I’ll take up on that offer right now. I’ll go and shower, and you make something for me to eat yeah?”

Rubbing at your tired eyes, they’d begun to burn from staring at your computer screen all day long. The mindless data entry you'd been doing for most of the day had been turning your brain to mush, your eyes frequently glancing down at the corner of your screen to check the time. You were dying for your shift to end so you could pick Evie up from preschool and go relax at home for the evening.
Secretly you were also hoping to hear that her second week at preschool had started off better than her first. You'd already been told by her teacher that she'd been very quiet all of last week, barely speaking unless she absolutely needed to. And it sounded like her lack of speech was affecting her opportunities for making friends in her class, which had only broken your heart to hear. Because every mother just wanted their kids to succeed and be happy, yet here your daughter was seemingly miserable and struggling.
Jaw tightening, your eyelids slowly lowered. All your fault , the voice in your head reminded you. She's like this because of you .
“If I have to stare at a spreadsheet any longer I'm going to lose my damn mind.”
Your eyes flew back open at the familiar voice of Amira behind you. She'd become your only real friend in the city ever since you’d moved here and gotten your job and you always welcomed a free moment to chat with her at work.
Pushing your chair away from your small desk, you turned it around to see her leaning against the entrance to your cubicle. She was raising a mug of steaming tea up to her lips which were stained a dark purple today.
“Gary in the bathroom?” you asked her.
Swallowing down her sip of tea, she nodded before a grin spread on her face. “Of course he is,” she told you. “I swear that man shits at the same time every day.”
Biting your lip, you fought down a laugh. She wasn't wrong, though. Your boss always kept a tight schedule–even when it came to his bathroom breaks.
“Gives us time to catch up, though,” she said. “And I hope your weekend was more eventful than mine because I did nothing but clean and wished I'd won the lottery so I didn’t have to come back to this damn place.”
You shrugged in response. “Not really anything interesting to share on my end,” you told her. “Found a park near our building that I brought Evie to play at. Did some cleaning and some grocery shopping, then I brought Evie to the library for Sunday morning story time. That's about it.”
“Hmm,” Amira hummed out, glancing down at her mug as she tapped a finger thoughtfully along the side of it. “Sounds about as eventful as my weekend.”
You watched as she brought the mug to her lips and took another drink. As she did, your eyes slid over to the clock on the wall behind her. You still had twenty minutes left.
“What about your love life?” Amira asked. “Anything more going on with that?”
A bitter laugh fell out of you as your attention returned to Amira. Shaking your head, you tried to stifle the humorless sound.
“You know I'm not looking for a relationship,” you reminded her. “That's the absolute last thing I want right now.”
“So you mean to tell me if some man asked you out, you wouldn't even consider it?” she asked. “I mean, I'm sure you've got needs, you know?”
You glanced down at your hands that were now fidgeting in your lap. “That's not exactly a priority in my life anymore,” you told her. “And I'm not sure I could even trust someone to get that close again anyway. Besides, the only man who's taken an interest in me is my weird neighbor from across the hall.”
“Oh?” Amira asked, instantly perking up. “Why's he weird?”
“I don't know, I somehow just keep running into him,” you answered with another shrug. “It's just odd. And he's always so…friendly?”
“Like friendly friendly?” she asked. “Or like I'm-going-to-peep-through-your-panty-drawer-when-you're-not-home friendly?”
You shook your head, your mind returning to your neighbor and that damn charming smile of his that he always threw your way. You still weren't entirely sure what to make of him. He'd seemed sincerely concerned when you'd encountered him on the roof that one night, even though you figured there was no way he could know that it was you he'd talked to briefly. And he had brought you that lasagna, which as weird as that had been, you couldn't deny it wasn't a nice gesture. Assuming it really was a no strings attached lasagna.
“I don't know,” you answered. “I haven't exactly figured it out, but I'm also not really interested in trying to, either. As long as he leaves Evie and I alone, I don't really care. But he…brought us a lasagna last week.”
“He did what now?” Amira asked, suddenly straightening up.
“He brought us over an entire lasagna,” you repeated. “Apparently he's a lawyer that does a lot of pro bono work in Hell's Kitchen and I guess his firm often gets paid in food? So he brought us a literal whole lasagna.”
Amira's head tilted to the side, her eyes narrowing curiously back at you as her finger began tapping against her mug again.
“Is he one of the men from Nelson, Murdock, and Page?” she questioned.
“That sounds about right,” you answered.
“Alright girl, now you need to tell me which man it is. Nelson or Murdock?” she pressed. “Cause they are both fine as hell and I've only ever heard good things about them.”
“Murdock, I think?” you answered, brow furrowing in thought. “He said his name was Matthew?”
Amira let out a long, low whistle that only had the crease between your furrowed brows growing. A bright smile lit up her face immediately at the look of confusion that landed on your own.
“Are you telling me,” she began, “that Matthew Murdock, the hottest lawyer in the goddamn Kitchen with a heart as big as his ass, is your weird and friendly neighbor?”
“Yes?” you replied hesitantly.
Amira barked out a laugh, shaking her head. “I would let that man peep through my panty drawer while I'm home if he was my neighbor. Are you kidding me? That man is sexy as hell and with all the things I've heard about him in bed?”
You pulled a face at her comment, your nose immediately scrunching up. If his sexual prowess had somehow landed in your co-worker’s ears then you could only imagine what that said about him. Good in bed or not, that definitely didn’t brighten your view of the man.
“So he sleeps around, I assume?” you asked her, a look of disdain still on your face. “Because then I can completely assure you that he's absolutely not my type.”
Amira sent you a stern, serious look, her laughter immediately fading. “I think he'd be great for you, actually,” she said matter-of-factly. “He's a kind-hearted man who'd fuck you senseless and then leave you be. What more could you want?”
“The just being left alone part?” you half-joked. “Seriously, I don't care what he looks like or how good in bed he is, I don't want anyone, Mira. I've got enough on my mind as it is.”
“You're right,” she agreed, tone softening. “In all seriousness, how've you been holding up?”
Leaning back in your chair, you exhaled a long sigh. You were close with Amira, and she understood quite a bit about your situation, but you still weren't about to be entirely honest with her. It wasn’t necessary for her to know absolutely everything about your past.
“I've been alright,” you answered. “Things are going as good as they can, I guess. Wish this job would give me a raise so I could afford living here, but I'm making it work.”
“How're the nightmares?” Amira asked.
You shrugged. “I don't think Evie is having nightmares exactly, they're more like–”
“I meant you,” she cut in, shooting you a knowing look. “I imagine you have them, considering what you’ve been through.”
You could feel your throat closing up and your mouth going dry at the fact that she’d been able to see right through you so easily. How she kept managing to do that remained a mystery to you. Hands beginning to tug at the hem of your blouse, your attention returned to where they fidgeted once more in your lap.
“I'm–I'm fine,” you lied. “I'm managing.”
“You know, I think you'd benefit from some self-defense classes,” Amira said slowly. “Probably make you feel a whole lot safer at least. Have you considered something like that?”
“You know I can't afford self-defense classes,” you told her quietly. “I'm lucky to pay rent on time and put some food on the table as it is. Anything extra goes to Evie.”
Amira opened her mouth, clearly about to say more, but her eyes darted over the top of your cubicle. A frown settled on her lips as her eyes narrowed and you immediately recognized what that look meant.
“Appears his bathroom break is over,” she grumbled, pushing off of your cubicle wall. “Guess that's my cue to pretend I'm busy until we can get the hell out of here.”
You sent her a strained smile before she ducked out of your cubicle. Slowly turning your chair around back towards your desk, you sighed in defeat as your work glared back at you on the screen. Eyes darting down to the clock on your computer, your shoulders dropped when you saw you still had fifteen minutes left.
Tumblr media
The elevator felt like it was moving exceptionally slow this evening, partly because you were eager to get back to your apartment and change out of your work clothes already, and partly because the lift had been fairly crowded tonight with everyone else coming home from work.
As you impatiently waited for the elevator to make its multiple stops on its ascent to the top floor, Evie silently held your hand, her eyes remaining fixed on the numbers changing above the doors each time it stopped at a new floor. She’d barely spoken more than four times on your entire walk home. From what you’d gathered from the lopsided conversation, this week of preschool had started off about the same as her previous one, which had only further dampened your mood after the long day at work. So when the doors of the elevator had finally opened onto the sixth floor and you’d stepped out of it with Evie in tow, you weren't thrilled to see that not only was your strange, friendly neighbor in the hallway, but he was in the hallway with two other people.
Your hand gripped Evie’s tighter in yours as you reluctantly began to make your way down the hall towards your apartment and inevitably towards the small group that was chatting in front of your neighbor’s door. You desperately hoped you’d be able to get away with just giving them a polite smile before ducking inside your apartment, but your hopes were dashed the moment the pretty blonde woman on your neighbor’s left spotted you passing the door to 6C and making your way ever closer to them.
“Oh, Matt, I think your neighbor is actually home!” she exclaimed. “What perfect timing!”
Briefly pausing midstep, your eyes grew wide in fright at being acknowledged by the little group. What could they possibly have wanted with you ? Trying to regain your composure, you plastered a stiff smile on your face, but your pulse increased the second your neighbor’s covered gaze fixed on you. It felt as if he was looking right at you, almost as if he knew exactly where you were walking as you finished making your way down the hallway. The gentleman on his other side turned at the waist, focusing his attention on you next. You wished that you could drag Evie straight through the wall into your apartment with how uncomfortable all three sets of eyes were currently making you feel. You heard Matthew say your name and the hair on your forearms rose at the impending conversation.
“Yeah?” you answered awkwardly, pausing in front of your door.
Directly across the hall, Matthew took one step towards you before holding out a hand. Eyes darting down at what he was offering you, your brows shot up onto your forehead in surprise when you noticed it was a plate of peanut butter cookies covered in cling wrap. Beside you, you heard the excited inhale from Evie just before she began ecstatically tugging at your hand.
So he hadn’t forgotten the cookies he’d mentioned to your daughter a few days ago when he had dropped off that lasagna. You’d entirely expected him to, but now you supposed you’d at least give him credit for not crushing her hopes. She’d certainly excitedly mentioned the cookies he’d promised to you a few times over the duration of the weekend, and you’d tried your best to prepare her for disappointment when he inevitably forgot that he’d ever brought them up. But here he was proving you wrong and not disappointing your daughter like so many others would have.
“If I recall,” Matthew began, a broad smile on his face, “I think I owe someone peanut butter cookies today. If that’s still alright with your mother, of course.”
Evie’s head immediately darted up in your direction, her eyes big and pleading. “Please, mama?”
You knew there was absolutely no way you were about to deny her and decline the baked goods, especially after having already agreed to accept them in the first place. Trying to maintain that strained smile on your face, you briefly released Evie’s hand and cautiously took the two steps across the hall to accept the plate from Matthew’s outstretched hand. Your heart was pounding loudly in your ears the whole time, your body begging you to just get inside and away from this situation already.
“Thank you,” you replied quietly, taking those two steps immediately backwards towards your door and grabbing Evie’s hand again. “I know Evie appreciates that you remembered her.”
Matthew had opened his mouth to reply, but your daughter shocked the both of you when she spoke before he’d even had the opportunity to get a single word out. Your eyes flew to her in surprise the moment you’d heard her voice.
“Thank you, Mr. Murdock,” she said.
For a second you stood there dumbfounded, holding the plate of cookies in one hand as you stared down at your daughter. She had intentionally raised her voice when she'd spoken, speaking loud enough to be heard–something that wasn't common for your daughter because she often spoke so softly whenever she did speak. As you openly gaped down at her, you saw that she was even smiling up at him, wearing a smile so bright you couldn’t even recall the last time you’d seen one like it on her face.
“You’re very welcome, Evie,” Matthew replied, having focused on the place where she stood when she’d spoken. “Maybe another day I can bring you something else from the office. Assuming, of course, your mother is okay with it.”
His attention returned to you and you immediately began shaking your head. Whatever this was, you weren't about to begin accepting his constant charity. Or worse–to feel like you owed him something in return after the conversation you'd had with Amira earlier today. You absolutely weren’t about to sleep with your neighbor to thank him for his kindness.
“Oh, no, really,” you began, “This was plenty already. You don't need to bring us anything else.”
“Mrs. Anderson makes a mean cherry pie,” the gentleman beside Matthew said, drawing your eyes towards him. “You might not want to say no until you’ve tasted it. It will quite literally change the way you see the world.”
You shot him a tight, friendly smile as you once more shook your head. “I’m sure it’s great,” you continued politely, “but really, that’s alright. We don’t–”
“Who’s that?”
You stopped short at the sound of Evie’s question. Head shifting over your shoulder, you saw Evelynn’s little hand pointing across the hall. Following her finger’s path, you saw she was pointing at a newspaper partially folded beneath the blonde woman’s arm. The woman looked startled before she glanced down at the newspaper tucked against her body.
“Oh,” she exclaimed softly, slowly beginning to pull it out from beneath her arm.
She glanced down at the front page before exchanging a look with the man on Matthew’s left immediately afterwards. Something strange and tense seemed to settle among the three of them as they stood across the hall from you. Clearing her throat, the woman quickly plastered a smile on her face before she turned, bending partially over and holding out the picture on the front page of the paper for Evie to see.
“You mean the man in this photograph?” she asked.
Evie nodded quickly, her eyes wide and glued to the image that you couldn’t quite see at this angle.
“That’s Daredevil,” the woman answered.
You briefly caught a note of something strange in the way she’d replied, but the thought completely left your mind when Evie whipped around towards you, her finger still pointing to the paper.
“That’s him, mama!” she shouted.
Pulling a face, you shook your head in confusion. “That’s who, cricket?” you asked.
“The man!” she exclaimed. “On the roof!”
“What?” you asked.
The woman straightened, a smile on her lips as she showed you the paper. Your eyes narrowed, squinting at the dark and somewhat blurry image of a man in a costume crouched on a roof. You could vaguely make out the shape of something like horns on his helmet.
Eyes flying up toward the woman, panic rose within you. If this psycho was real, then there really was a man out on the rooftops that your daughter had been seeing. Which was a completely horrifying thought.
“Who is that?” you nearly demanded. “The deranged man running around in a devil suit?”
“Oh, uh,” the woman stammered, clearly taken by surprise. “Daredevil isn’t–he's not crazy. He's just uh–”
“Kind of like a superhero who beats up bad guys,” the man next to Matthew quickly cut in. “Though technically he is considered a vigilante.”
Quirking a brow at him, you shook your head in disbelief. “A superhero vigilante?” you asked skeptically. “What do you mean?”
“He’s known to protect Hell’s Kitchen,” your neighbor’s smooth voice cut in, your eyes drawn back towards him. “You don’t have to be afraid of him, though. I can assure you, it’s well known that he’s never harmed anyone that wasn’t a criminal.”
“I’m sorry,” you said, eyes narrowing at him, “but there’s a madman dressed as a devil running around on the rooftops near my daughter’s bedroom at night and you think I have nothing to worry about?”
“He’s more like a protector, not a lunatic!” the other man told you. “He protects the people of Hell’s Kitchen specifically. He’s rescued all kinds of people from human traffickers, he’s stopped various gangs–”
“He even saved my life,” the blonde added, a hesitant smile on her face. “Once or twice.”
“And he’s helped our law firm put bad men away,” your neighbor said. “I can assure you, he’s not a danger to you or your daughter. No matter how…startling it is to hear your daughter say that she’s seen him outside of her window.”
Jaw tightening, your eyes darted around the three of them, scrutinizing them closely. It was strange how quick they were to defend this costumed lunatic. You also weren’t thrilled at the prospect of a violent man running around outside your apartment at night while you and your daughter slept. How were you supposed to believe his violence was any different than Daniel’s? How could you trust he wouldn’t break into your apartment and hurt either of you? How could you know he was safe?
“I told you.”
Evie’s small voice broke through your thoughts, your attention returning down towards her. She was smiling proudly up at you, the sight only further confusing you.
“Told me what, cricket?” you asked.
“He protects us,” she answered.
Frowning, you found you weren’t entirely sure what to make of the masked vigilante that this city seemed to respect, especially after the comments these three had made. And you didn’t quite understand why your daughter wasn’t afraid of him and repeatedly kept seeing him at night–something that made you more uncomfortable now knowing he wasn’t imaginary.
But you knew there was nothing you or the three people across from you could do about this Daredevil, and you really wanted to end this interaction already. Clearing your throat, you glanced back over at Matthew. There was a conflicted twist to the shape of his mouth, the corners a bit downturned. You ignored it, the feeling of your growing panic the only thing that mattered right now.
“Thank you for the cookies,” you said tersely, “but I should probably get Evie inside and make dinner. I hope you have a good evening.”
You turned your back on the three of them, releasing Evie’s hand so you could dig the apartment key out of your purse. In a hurry you began to unlock your apartment door, not remotely surprised when you heard your neighbor behind you.
“I hope you both enjoy your evening as well,” he replied. “And like I said, I’m just across the hall if you ever need anything.”
Biting the inside of your cheek, you pushed your door open without a backwards glance or another word. You ushered Evie quickly inside your apartment before you darted in after her, locking the door and the deadbolt behind you.
Tumblr media
“Seriously, man?” Foggy asked in exasperation. “Her little girl has already been seeing you out on the roof? They’ve only been here a week, Matt! You need to be more careful!”
“I thought I was being careful!” Matt shot back, pacing in front of his apartment windows with his hands on his hips. “I didn’t think she’d caught me the first night when I’d been on their fire escape, but she must be seeing me when I’m heading back home at night.”
“You do need to be more cautious,” Karen warned from the couch. “You don’t need her to see you heading back into your apartment. That could be dangerous.”
Foggy let out a low groan, his body slumping forward in one of the armchairs. Matt ran a hand across his mouth, feeling a little rush of panic inside of himself. He really hadn’t realized your daughter had been so aware of him coming home in the evenings. She was surprisingly observant.
“The last thing we need,” Foggy complained, “is for your neighbor to realize who Daredevil really is and to take that information to the authorities. That’s dangerous information that could get you killed, Matt. Or disbarred and imprisoned. Hell, it could get all of us disbarred and sent to prison!”
Matt shook his head, still continuing his pacing. “That won’t happen, Fog. I won’t let it, don’t worry,” he assured him.
“Well,” Karen began slowly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ears, “at least her daughter trusts Daredevil. Even if her mother thinks he’s batshit crazy. I suppose that’s something. I don’t know what, but it’s something.”
“Not helping,” Matt grumbled. “I don’t need her to be more terrified in her apartment than she already is. I imagine her being put further on edge won’t make it any easier for me to get closer to her.”
“Matt, buddy, did you ever think that maybe she won’t want your help?” Foggy questioned. “Maybe you should just, I don’t know, let this one go? You can’t help everyone, dude. I mean, she seemed pretty cold at the end of that conversation out there.”
“She seemed scared,” Karen softly corrected, her attention focusing on Foggy. “She was scared, not cold, Foggy. There’s a difference.”
Matt came to a stop at the edge of his rug, his hands readjusting the waistband of his dress pants. He’d felt your fear the moment your daughter had recognized Daredevil as the man she’d apparently been seeing at night in that newspaper. It was just as strong of a rush of the feeling through your body as when you’d first seen him in the hallway. Daredevil terrified you.
“Karen’s right,” Matt told Foggy. “I could feel her fear. Someone has her afraid. And the thought of some other violent man running around the city at night only seemed to scare her further. Something is going on, and I’m not going to stop until I figure out what.”
“Dude–”
“ No ,” Matt nearly growled the word out, immediately quieting Foggy. “Don’t you tell me to let this go. They’re a part of Hell’s Kitchen, Fog. And I’m going to make sure they’re safe. Because no one hurts the people of my city. I won’t allow it.”
“Alright,” Foggy relented, nodding his head slowly. “Okay. I hear you, Matt. I just worry you’re going to drive her away in your best attempts to do the opposite is all. She seems quite set on keeping you at a distance.”
Foggy wasn’t wrong. Matt knew you were repeatedly pushing him away at every opportunity he took to get closer. And he was afraid of pushing a little too hard and having the opposite effect of what he was after. But your daughter, somehow, seemed to be reacting to him differently now. That first night when you’d both run into him in the hall after moving in, she’d matched your terror. But tonight…he hadn’t felt her fear towards him. Or towards Karen and Foggy. Though you were still putting your walls up.
“He protects us.”
Your daughter’s words about Matt’s alter ego ran through his mind. She’d been so positive in that thought, he’d read it in the tone of her voice and the steady beat of her heart. She wasn’t afraid of Daredevil, not like you appeared to be. And hearing that from a scared little girl had somehow further softened him to the both of you in that moment. This was quickly becoming less a matter of Matt trying to do the right thing while attempting to keep the people of his city safe, and instead steadily becoming something personal to him. Even if he didn’t fully understand why exactly that was himself.
“I’ll figure it out,” Matt murmured, running a hand across his forehead. “Somehow, I’ll figure out how to get them to let me in so I can help.”

: ̗̀➛ “DOUBTS.” | v. ratio
彡 prompt: dr. ratio discovers that his lover is more insecure than they let on.
彡 warning(s): self degradation/loathing (from the reader).
彡 notes: gender neutral reader. maybe ooc! ratio. this was partly a vent lmao. all dividers are by cafekitsune!
Tumblr media
THE day you started dating Veritas Ratio was the best day of his life. He always considered you to be his equal in intelligence...and good looks too. Your more lenient personality, however, was in contrast to strict personality. But, you still taught your students well.
Granted, to Veritas, you really should be a little less merciful. You’re a professor, it's not like you're teaching preschoolers. If one of your students is stressed out, instead of coddling them, help snap them out of it.
Other than that, you’re a genuinely good professor. As stressed out as some of the students might be, they’re still learning. To Veritas, the way you teach shows that you’re confident in yourself and your teachings.
Although, outside of your job, lately you’ve been acting unusual. Veritas has noticed you hesitating to hold his hand. The way you’ve been kissing his cheeks instead of his lips, your refusal to look him in the eyes when talking to him.
Now Veritas Ratio doesn’t know how to comfort people. And when it came to you, he would give you a hug or a kiss, but that was about it.
Only because your concerns were the usual stress of work, so he wasn’t worried about you. He knew you were strong when it came to being a teacher, and that’s what he loved about you.
He thought to get you a coffee before your next lesson, as you are a hard worker. Of course, hard workers need energy and a relaxing drink. Especially when they’re in the presence of idiots.
So when Veritas hears you crying in your classroom, mumbling the cruelest words to yourself…his heart starts to ache.
Calling yourself a nuisance, nothing but a burden.
He’s damn near offended. If anyone else was caught talking like this about you, he’d have no problem insulting them back.
But…it was you saying these awful things about yourself. Why?
As you spotted him walking towards you, you wiped your eyes with a few tissues.
"Good morning, Veritas." You mumbled a soft 'thank you' as he handed you your coffee cup. You did your best to give him a smile, but you were only met with a glare in response.
"You know I despise lying, my dear." He leaned closer to you, your lips almost touching, as if he was about to kiss you.
“So, why don’t you be truthful?” The man with purple hair moved his head back, drinking his own coffee.
You were silent as you sipped your coffee, tears brimming from your eyes again.
“...I’m sorry, Veritas." Your voice was barely audible, until after you spoke again. “I…just felt like I’ve been of no use to you recently.”
Exhaling from his nose, he frowned. "I’m still failing to see how you could ever view yourself as a nuisance, [F/N]."
Oh, he heard that? Wonderful.
Getting up from your seat, you stared at your coffee cup. “I don’t feel like I’m your equal. That I’m below you.”
What. Were you serious? You were his lover. Of course you were his equal. Were you actually foolish? You were simply one of the most intelligent people he’s ever met, both academically and emotionally. You had a good heart as well. You were an honest person.
How could you speak about yourself this way? Absolutely not. He won’t hear it.
“Answer me this,” Veritas took the coffee cup out of your hand, setting both his and yours cups down on your desk. Staring into your eyes, he continued. “Have I ever told you that you were beneath me?”
“…No.” You mumbled.
“Have I given the impression that you’re bothersome, or a nuisance to me?”
“No, but–”
“Do you think I would be in love with you if I considered you to be worthless?”
No response from you.
Walking closer to you, he grazed your cheek. “So please, tell me where you got these thoughts from, sweetheart.”
Scrunching his eyebrows, Veritas thought for a moment. The first thought that came to his mind made his jaw clench.
“[F/N].” He said firmly, maintaining eye contact with you. “Has anyone said anything to you?”
Taking in his words, you broke eye contact with him. It was true that people talked about you behind your back. But, you’ve been feeling like this for a while…all your co-workers did was just make it worse.
“These thoughts have been sitting in my own mind for a long time, Veritas.” You stared at your shoes. “Nobody needed to say anything.”
Moving your chin up to make you look at him, his gaze softened. “Then let me tell you this.”
Taking your hands in his, he began. “I’m with you because I love you. Simple. You are forever my equal, and I‘be never imagined myself being with anyone but you.”
While his voice was nonchalant as ever, every single word still heartfelt, and came from a place of love.
Seeing your lips almost twitch into a smile, he continued, “Or should I remind you it was me who confessed to you?”
Yeah, that happened. Veritas Ratio told you he loved you. He didn’t expect you to feel the same way, forget starting a relationship with him.
Seeing tears almost well up in your eyes, he kissed your temple. “I love you, [Y/N], and that will never end. Am I understood?”
Nodding your head, you wiped your eyes. “Yes, I understand. I love you too, Veritas.”
With a satisfied hum, the genius reluctantly separated himself from you and picked up his coffee cup.
“Good, now get yourself together, my dear. You have a lesson in 5 minutes.”

luke having a daughter in college and she’s jsut the sweetest little girl who adores her dad and now with them bending in jersey jack really gets to see how great of a dad luke is with them living together for so much and the team is all so shocked how good of a dad luke is so young
Luke Hughes x Daughter!reader
In the bustling heart of New Jersey, the Hughes residence was a lively place, filled with the sounds of laughter and joy. Luke Hughes, the youngest of the three Hughes brothers, had taken a unique path in life. While still in college, he had become a father to a beautiful little girl named Y/N. Now, at 21, he was juggling the demanding life of an NHL player with the equally demanding yet infinitely rewarding role of being a dad.
Y/N was the light of Luke's life. With her curly hair, bright eyes, and infectious giggle, she had a way of making even the toughest days seem brighter. Every morning, Luke would wake up early to make her breakfast, often a messy but heartfelt attempt at pancakes, which Y/N would decorate with an overwhelming amount of syrup and sprinkles. She adored her dad and followed him around like a shadow, always eager to help or simply be near him.
Jack Hughes, Luke's older brother, had recently invited them to stay at his place in Jersey. With the brothers now playing for the same team, it made sense for them to live together, making the commute easier and allowing them to spend more time as a family. For Jack, it was an eye-opening experience. He knew Luke was a good guy, but seeing him as a dad was something else entirely.
"Uncle Jack!" Y/N's voice rang through the house one morning, her tiny footsteps pattering down the hallway. "Look what Daddy made me!" She proudly held up a lopsided pancake, grinning from ear to ear.
Jack laughed, ruffling her hair. "That looks delicious, Y/N. Did you help him make it?"
She nodded enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling. "I put the sprinkles on!"
Living with them, Jack saw firsthand how devoted Luke was to his daughter. He balanced his training schedule with quality time spent with Y/N, whether it was helping her with preschool activities, reading bedtime stories, or simply playing in the park.
One evening, after a grueling practice, the team decided to gather at the Hughes' place for a casual dinner. The players sprawled out in the living room, joking and talking about the day's drills. Y/N was in the middle of it all, comfortably nestled in her dad's lap, listening intently to the banter around her.
"Hey, Luke," Nico Hischier called out, leaning against the kitchen counter. "How do you do it, man? Balancing everything with Y/N and hockey?"
Luke glanced down at his daughter, who was now trying to braid his hair, and smiled. "It's all about priorities, Nico. Y/N comes first, always. Hockey is important, but being a dad... that's everything to me."
The team nodded, clearly impressed. They had seen young players struggle with responsibilities, but Luke seemed to handle it with a grace and maturity beyond his years. It wasn't just about providing for Y/N; it was about being present, about being a role model and a source of unwavering love and support.
As the evening wore on, Y/N grew sleepy. Luke gently carried her to bed, tucking her in with her favorite stuffed animal. He read her a story, his voice soft and soothing, until her eyes fluttered shut. Jack watched from the doorway, a newfound respect for his brother blossoming in his chest.
When Luke returned to the living room, Jack clapped him on the shoulder. "You're a great dad, Luke. I’m really proud of you."
Luke smiled, a bit shyly. "Thanks, Jack. It means a lot coming from you."
The team dispersed later that night, each player leaving with a new perspective on Luke Hughes. He wasn't just a talented defenseman; he was a devoted father, navigating the challenges of young parenthood with a strength and tenderness that left a lasting impression on everyone.

i was reading all your posts under the big brother au tag (I love love love this au! its so cute I cant- TT) and I saw that reader is in school to be a teacher! as a teacher in training this immediately made me think of how little yuji would react when reader is doing their internship in his school but not the same class and how hed want to stay next to the reader the whole day if shes at school, making a fuss if shes busy with another class and she cant help him
or or- while shes busy doing something, the other teachers call her to help calm yuji down cause he got hurt and he hasn't stopped crying since and he wants to be near or her or sukuna but he isn't picking up his phone or smth
this is so cute im falling to my knees and crying.
it would def be very hard, because all he wants to do is go hangout with you and seeing you interact with the kids in the other class makes him so jealous :(. he is always clutching at nanamis pants and whining about how he wants to see you. the poor preschool teacher has to give him extra attention that day bc of how restless he seems to be knowing that you are at his school and not with him. but nanami does lead the boy over to you when you take your lunchbreak, and yuuji is back to his normal self, chatting and giggling with you about his day and how much he misses you.
but, when you do visit their class for a short time, he shows you off to all of his friends of course, saying how amazing you are and how much he loves you. but then all the other kids realize how kind you are too, and all of the sudden the other preschoolers are all fighting for your attention. and so yuuji ends up pawing at your clothes and asking you to pick him up with tears in his eyes, because he doesnt want the other kids to steal you away. you have to reassure the boy that you love him the most and arent going anywhere, while he sniffles into your neck. the itadori brothers both cannot seem to share you for the life of them.
ahhhh the last part is so cute!!! yuuji loves sukuna, but the second the boy gets hurt or is sick, he is trying to find you as quick as possible bc you always coddle him the most during these times. and so when he trips and scraps his knee on the playground, you are being dragged out the their recess where the boy cries and cries on your lap while both you and nanami have to banadage him up. you end up having to sit on the bench while holding petting yuuji while megumi and nobara leave their other friends to talk to the two of you
ugh i love this idea soooo much, i honestly might write a full fic on it!!

Maturity Test Part 5: Guess who is back
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 4
Stepping out of the car, Anna approached the entrance, spotting Becky through the window. She was sitting on the floor with a group of her classmates, intently focused on a colorful storybook as her teacher read aloud. When the door opened, Becky’s head shot up, her face breaking into a wide grin.
"Mommy!" she squealed, scrambling to her feet. Her little dress swayed as she ran toward Anna, her pull-up crinkling softly beneath the fabric. Becky threw her arms around Anna’s legs in a tight hug, beaming with pride.
"Hey, sweetie," Anna said warmly, kneeling down to her level. "Did you have a good day at preschool?"
Becky nodded enthusiastically, her pigtails bouncing. "Uh-huh! I learned all about numbers today! We counted all the way to twenty, Mommy!" She held up ten fingers, as if trying to show how many, even though it wasn't enough. Her excitement was contagious.
Anna smiled, tucking a loose strand of hair behind Becky’s ear. "That’s amazing, Becky! And what else did you do?"
Becky’s face lit up even more. "We played with blocks, and I made a tower almost as tall as me! And guess what, Mommy?" she paused dramatically, puffing up with pride, "I stayed dry all day!" She gave her pull-up a little pat, a glint of accomplishment in her eyes.
Anna’s heart swelled. "Wow! That’s so great, Becky! I’m really proud of you."
Becky nodded, but then her expression shifted slightly, her smile faltering just a bit. "Well... almost all day," she admitted, her voice dropping to a small whisper. "I had a tiny accident during story time. But it was only a little bit, I promise!"
Anna gently placed a hand on Becky’s shoulder, giving her a reassuring squeeze. "That’s okay, Becky. Accidents happen sometimes, and you’re doing such a good job. I’m really proud of how hard you’re trying."
Becky smiled again, relief flooding her face. "Thanks, Mommy!"
Hand in hand, they made their way back to the car, Becky excitedly recounting more details from her day—how she made a new friend, what snack they had during break time, and all the new words she had learned. Anna listened attentively, her heart warmed by the sound of Becky’s joyful chatter.
They pulled up to the daycare, and as soon as Anna walked inside, she immediately noticed Olaf. He was standing near the door, his pacifier firmly in his mouth, clutching the hand of one of the caregivers with both hands. His face was pale, his eyes wide and nervous. His other hand was holding onto his favorite stuffed bear, a clear sign that something had upset him.
"Olaf, sweetie," Anna called softly, her heart sinking at the sight of him. "What’s wrong?"
The caregiver, a kind-looking woman with soft eyes, gave Anna a sympathetic glance as she gently guided Olaf over to her. "He had a bit of a rough day today," she explained in a low voice. "He was very unsettled when he saw one of the new toddlers."
Anna crouched down to Olaf’s level, brushing a tear from his cheek. "Hey, sweetie, can you tell Mommy what happened?"
Olaf looked up at her, his lower lip trembling as he sucked harder on his pacifier. His voice was muffled and shaky as he finally spoke. "I saw... I saw mean Mommy again," he whimpered, clutching Anna’s hand tightly.
Anna’s heart skipped a beat, and she immediately understood. "Do you mean... Lilly?" she asked softly, her voice gentle but firm.
Olaf nodded, tears welling up in his eyes. "Y-Yeah... I saw her, Mommy," he whispered, his voice quivering. "She was here... and... and she was stinky."
Anna’s brow furrowed in confusion for a moment, and she glanced at the caregiver, who nodded in confirmation. The woman leaned in closer to explain. "Lilly was recently reclassified, Anna. She’s... well, she’s a toddler now. She was brought in today for her first day of daycare, and, um..." the caregiver paused delicately, "let’s just say she had a messy accident when Olaf arrived."
Anna blinked, taken aback by the revelation. Lilly—a toddler? She hadn’t seen or heard anything about Lilly in months, ever since the investigation into her manipulative behavior. But the thought of her being regressed and placed in the same daycare as Olaf was a lot to process.
Olaf’s small voice cut through her thoughts. "She... she was stinky, Mommy," he repeated, his little face scrunched in both confusion and fear. "She had a messy diaper. I saw her when I came in, and she... she looked at me."
Anna pulled him into a comforting hug, rubbing his back gently as he trembled in her arms. "It’s okay, Olaf. You don’t have to worry about her anymore. She’s not your mommy anymore. I am."
Olaf clung to Anna tightly, burying his face in her shoulder. "But... but what if she wants to be mean again?"
Anna’s heart broke for him. "She can’t hurt you, sweetie. She’s just another toddler now, and the caregivers here will make sure she behaves. You’re safe."
Becky, who had been quietly watching from the side, stepped forward and placed a gentle hand on Olaf’s shoulder. "It’s okay, Olaf," she said softly. "You have a new mommy now. And we can all play together at home."
Olaf sniffled and nodded, calming slightly as Anna continued to hold him close. The fear was still there, but knowing that Anna and Becky were with him seemed to ease his anxiety.
After a few more comforting words, Anna scooped Olaf up into her arms, holding him securely as they made their way out of the daycare. As they walked to the car, Olaf kept his pacifier firmly in his mouth, his eyes darting nervously around, but the tight grip he had on Anna showed that he was beginning to feel safe again.
Once they were all buckled in, Anna glanced at Becky in the rearview mirror, who was sitting quietly, sensing the tension in the air.
"How about we all have some ice cream when we get home?" Anna suggested, trying to lighten the mood. "I think we could all use a little treat today."
Becky’s face lit up instantly. "Yes, please, Mommy!" she exclaimed.
Olaf, still sucking on his pacifier, gave a small nod, his eyes brightening just a bit at the mention of ice cream.
As they drove home, Anna couldn’t help but think about Lilly, the former "mommy" who had once manipulated and controlled Olaf’s life, now reduced to a toddler herself, helpless and dependent on others. It was a strange twist of fate, one that left Anna with a mix of emotions. But right now, all that mattered was that Olaf and Becky were safe, happy, and loved.
After they arrived home, the comforting familiarity of the house instantly began to soothe Olaf and Becky. Anna carried Olaf inside, gently setting him on the living room couch. His face, though still marked by traces of the earlier scare, began to relax as he snuggled into the soft cushions with his bear clutched tightly in his arms. Becky, full of energy and curiosity, had already run ahead, kicking off her shoes and eagerly exploring the play corner to find her favorite toys.
"Okay, my little ones," Anna said cheerfully as she closed the front door behind her. "Let's get you both changed into something more comfortable."
Becky bounced over, tugging on her dress. "Can I wear my unicorn shirt, Mommy?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Of course, sweetie," Anna replied with a smile, ruffling Becky’s hair. "But let’s check your pull-up first, okay?"
Becky nodded, standing still as Anna gave her a quick check. The pull-up was dry, but Anna could sense that Becky might need a reminder soon. "Good job staying dry, Becky," Anna praised, her tone warm. "But I think it’s time to try going potty, just to make sure."
Becky giggled and gave a little nod, heading toward the bathroom. "Okay, Mommy! I’ll go now!" she chirped, waddling off with her slight preschooler waddle—more from habit.
As Becky disappeared into the bathroom, Anna turned her attention to Olaf, who was quietly sucking his pacifier on the couch, looking much calmer but still a little shaken. "Alright, Olaf, let’s get you out of those shortalls," she said gently, lifting him up onto his feet. He didn't resist, simply holding his stuffed bear close and watching her with big, trusting eyes.
Anna unfastened the straps of his shortalls, sliding them down to reveal his diaper underneath. As she expected, the diaper was a bit damp from his earlier accident at daycare. "Looks like you’re a little wet, sweetie," Anna murmured softly, more to herself than to Olaf, though he didn’t seem to register her words.
Without any fuss, Anna removed his shortalls entirely, leaving him in just his diaper and t-shirt. The thick padding between his legs made a faint crinkling sound as she gave it a quick check. It wasn't soaked, so she decided there was no need for a change just yet. Instead of dressing him in new pants, Anna chose to leave him as he was, with just his t-shirt and diaper. Given how easily Olaf wet himself these days without even noticing, it was important for her to keep an eye on the state of his diaper throughout the afternoon.
"There we go, all comfy now," Anna said softly, giving his hair a gentle ruffle. Olaf blinked up at her, his pacifier still bobbing rhythmically in his mouth, entirely unbothered by his lack of pants. He was far too used to being in just his diaper now to notice or care, his focus drifting instead toward the TV.
At that moment, Becky emerged from the bathroom, proudly proclaiming, "I went potty, Mommy! I did it all by myself!"
Anna beamed, her heart swelling with pride. "Good girl, Becky! That’s wonderful," she said, bending down to give Becky a quick hug. "Now, let’s get you into your unicorn shirt."
Becky giggled with excitement as Anna helped her out of her preschool uniform, slipping her into a pair of soft, pastel pink shorts and the beloved unicorn t-shirt she had requested. The outfit was perfect for a cozy afternoon at home, allowing Becky to move freely as she played.
With both kids now dressed in their at-home clothes, Anna ushered them toward the couch, where she sat them down in front of the TV. "Alright, my little loves," she said, reaching for the remote, "how about we watch some cartoons while I get your ice cream ready?"
Becky immediately clapped her hands, bouncing in her seat. "Yes, Mommy! Cartoons!"
Olaf, still holding onto his bear, simply nodded, his wide eyes already drawn to the bright colors on the screen. His diaper crinkled softly as he settled into the cushions.
The next morning dawned quietly, with soft rays of sunlight streaming through the curtains in Olaf and Becky’s shared room. Anna stood at the doorway, watching her two littles still sleeping soundly, each in their own beds. Becky’s thumb was nestled in her mouth as she clutched her stuffed bunny close, her dry diaper peeking out from under her blanket. Olaf lay sprawled out in his crib-like bed, his thick nighttime diaper puffed up, clearly soaked from the night’s accidents.
Anna couldn’t help but smile as she gently roused them. “Good morning, sweethearts,” she cooed softly.
Becky stirred first, blinking sleepily as she rubbed her eyes. “Morning, Mommy,” she mumbled, stretching her little arms. Olaf was slower to wake, still sucking on his pacifier, which bobbed rhythmically in his mouth. When his eyes fluttered open, he gazed up at Anna with groggy but trusting eyes.
“Time to get up, Olaf,” Anna said softly, lowering the side of his crib. “We’ve got a big day ahead.”
Becky, already out of bed and heading to the bathroom for her morning potty routine, left Olaf and Anna alone. Anna leaned down and gave Olaf a kiss on the forehead. “Let’s get you changed, little man,” she said gently, lifting him onto the changing table.
As Anna changed his soaked diaper, she noticed a slight tension in Olaf’s posture. His hands fidgeted with the edge of his shirt, and his eyes darted nervously around the room. “Are you feeling okay, Olaf?” Anna asked, her voice full of concern.
Olaf looked up at her with wide eyes, then down at his pacifier. After a moment, he shook his head slightly. “I don’t wanna go to daycare today,” he mumbled around the pacifier.
Anna paused mid-change, her heart softening. She knew that Olaf still had lingering anxiety about daycare after seeing Lilly yesterday, especially with the knowledge that his former “mommy” had been regressed and placed in the same environment as him. “It’s okay, sweetie,” Anna reassured him, wiping him clean and taping on a fresh diaper. “You’ll be with your friends, and the caregivers will make sure you have a fun day.”
Olaf whimpered softly, squirming a little as Anna finished dressing him in a pair of light green shorts and a t-shirt. “But what if… what if I see her again?” he asked, his voice trembling. The memory of Lilly’s messy accident and the sight of her as a helpless toddler had clearly shaken him.
Anna knelt down beside him, cupping his cheek with one hand. “I’ll be with you today,” she said soothingly. “I’ll drop you off and stay for a little while, okay? I want to check on a few things, too.”
Olaf nodded, a flicker of relief passing through his eyes. He clutched his stuffed bear tightly as Anna led him downstairs for breakfast. Becky was already at the table, happily munching on her cereal. The morning passed quietly, but there was an underlying nervousness in Olaf’s behavior that even Becky noticed.
Once they were ready, Anna drove them to their respective drop-offs, starting with Becky’s preschool. Becky hopped out of the car, waving excitedly. “Bye, Mommy! Bye, Olaf!” she called cheerfully, completely unaware of her brother’s nerves.
“Have a great day, sweetie,” Anna called back with a smile, watching Becky disappear into the building before turning her attention to Olaf.
As they arrived at Olaf’s daycare, Anna could feel him tense up again. His pacifier was already in his mouth, and his grip on his bear had tightened considerably. She parked the car and unbuckled him from his seat. “You’re going to be just fine, Olaf,” Anna said, lifting him into her arms. “I’ll stay with you for a bit, alright?”
Olaf nodded, though his face was still clouded with worry.
Inside the daycare, the bright colors and cheerful decorations did little to ease Olaf’s tension. As soon as they entered, the familiar crinkling of diapers and the playful babbling of other toddlers filled the air. Anna spotted one of the caregivers, a kind woman named Miss Kelly, who had always been gentle with Olaf.
“Good morning, Anna,” Miss Kelly greeted them warmly. “And good morning to you, Olaf. How’s my little guy today?”
Olaf clung to Anna, burying his face in her shoulder. Miss Kelly chuckled softly, clearly understanding his nerves. “It’s okay, sweetie,” she cooed. “We’ll make sure you have a fun day with your friends. No need to worry.”
Anna smiled, grateful for the caregiver’s soothing tone. “I wanted to stay for a bit today, if that’s alright,” Anna said, glancing around. “Just to make sure Olaf is settled.”
Miss Kelly nodded. “Of course, Anna. You’re welcome to stay as long as you need.”
As Anna walked further into the daycare, she scanned the room, looking for any sign of Lilly. Her curiosity about her former friend—now a regressed toddler like Olaf—gnawed at her. She had heard bits and pieces from the other caregivers, but she hadn’t seen Lilly herself since yesterday. Today, she planned to check on her.
While Olaf began playing cautiously with some blocks nearby, Anna approached Miss Kelly again. “I heard that Lilly was brought here recently,” Anna said, trying to sound casual. “How is she doing?”
Miss Kelly’s face shifted, her expression becoming more guarded. “Lilly… yes. She’s fully integrated into the toddler program now,” she replied, her tone careful. “It’s been a big adjustment for her, but she’s… settling in.”
Anna frowned, sensing something in the way Miss Kelly spoke. “Settling in?” she repeated.
Miss Kelly hesitated, then glanced around to ensure no one was listening before leaning in slightly. “She’s part of the fast-track system,” she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Anna’s brow furrowed. “Fast-track system? What does that mean?”
Miss Kelly’s eyes flickered with something—uncertainty, perhaps even fear—but she didn’t elaborate. “It’s reserved for certain… individuals,” she said cautiously. “People with a history, like Lilly. It’s meant to help them adjust quickly to their new roles, but… it’s not exactly gentle.”
Anna’s heart skipped a beat. She had never heard of this before. “Not gentle? What do you mean?”
Miss Kelly hesitated again. “Let’s just say there are… methods. Drugs, hypnotherapy, behavioral conditioning. It’s only for those who… well, you understand.”
Anna felt a cold chill run down her spine. The idea that Lilly—manipulative and cruel as she had been—was now being subjected to something as ominous as this made her stomach turn. She had never liked Lilly’s actions, but this?
“Can I see her?” Anna asked, her voice quiet but firm.
Miss Kelly bit her lip, clearly uncomfortable. “I suppose it wouldn’t hurt… just for a moment. She’s in the dorms right now.”
Anna followed Miss Kelly down the hallway to a separate area of the daycare, her mind racing with conflicting emotions. As they approached the dorms, the atmosphere shifted. The usual cheerful decorations were absent here. The walls were plain, the lighting dimmer. It felt less like a daycare and more like… something else.
Miss Kelly opened the door to one of the dorm rooms, and there, in a crib-like bed, lay Lilly. She was dressed in a babyish onesie, her diaper clearly visible beneath it, thick and crinkling softly with every small movement. Her face, once sharp and calculating, now seemed softer, her expression vacant as she absently sucked on a pacifier.
Anna’s breath caught in her throat. This was the same woman who had once held so much power over Olaf, who had manipulated and controlled others for her own gain. And now… she was just like any other regressed little, helpless and dependent.
Lilly’s eyes flickered open, and for a brief moment, they met Anna’s. There was no recognition, no sign of the person she had once been. Just blankness.
Miss Kelly stepped forward, her voice low. “She’s not… fully aware anymore. The fast-track system… it works quickly.”
Anna felt a wave of nausea. She hadn’t expected this. Whatever Lilly had done in the past, this felt… wrong.

Can you write something where Hotch and Jack are picking up reader from daycare/preschool and she’s just so excited to show them the ring pop a boy gave her and telling them how she’s married now and they’re both freaking out lol?
Daycare Drama
Aaron Hotchner x Daughter!Reader
Summary: You had a preschool “marriage” though Aaron and Jack were not too thrilled with that idea.
———
The team's case had finished early, which meant they were able to go home early. Usually, Aaron stayed overtime to work on paperwork but now that he was a single father, he had to divide his attention between both his work and his kids. He had to pick Jack up from school and you up from daycare, he didn’t have time for paperwork at the moment.
Aaron walked into your daycare with Jack, heading past reception and into your colourful preschool room. It was noisy in there, as usual since it held a dozen tiny kids. But among that normal noise was a very familiar squeal and adorable high-pitched giggle that could only belong to one energetic little girl, you.
“Daddy! Jack!!” You squealed loudly, almost tripping over the now-discarded toys that you were playing with. You ran straight over to Aaron, giving him a big hug and a kiss on the cheek, repeating the same with Jack.
Aaron smiled and leaned down to your level, ruffling your hair slightly. “Hey, Y/N! How was your day today? No biting right?”
You shook your head with an enthusiastic giggle, hiding your little hands behind your back. “No biting! My day was super duper good. Guess what!?”
Aaron chuckled and gave you a high-five. “Great job! Guess what? I don’t know sweet girl, what’s up?”
You quickly took your little hand out from behind your back and held it up with a cheeky grin. Your tiny finger was adorned with a red ring pop. “I got married!”
Aarons's face dropped and the smile was faced with a confused frown. “What- wait- wait- what? Married?? To who?”
You giggled and pointed across the room, over to one of the little boys who was knocking down block towers. “Andy!”
Jack frowned and shook his head. “N/N! You can’t be married, you’re too young!”
You shook your head quickly. “No no no! I’m married! We got married at snack time!”
Aaron raised an eyebrow and put his hands on his hips. “I thought I told you no dating till you were 21.”
You groaned and slapped your little hand to your forehead. “Daddy, that’s centuries away! And we’re not dating, we are married!”
Jack huffed, putting his face in his hands. He was a very protective big brother and the idea of you having a lover was not something he wanted to think about. “That’s even worse! You can’t marry someone without knowing them really well.”
You shook your head and sighed, you were feeling pretty sassy. “I do know him, he plays in the sandpit with me and we share snacks.”
Aaron just sighed and shook his head. “Alright, alright, let’s just get out of here…”
Of course, Aaron knew it was all just harmless, absolutely nothing serious but he still couldn’t help but feel overprotective. You were his baby girl and he didn’t want anyone breaking your heart.
———
The next day after daycare, you had some news to break. You went over to Aaron and Jack with a fed-up look on your face. “Andy is not my husband anymore!”
Aaron tried to hide the smirk that was creeping up his face, you were upset and he had to sympathise with you, as relieved as he was. “Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that Y/N. What did he do?”
You huffed, placing your little hands on your hips. “He took Blankie!” You held up your pink blankie that now seemed to be covered in dirt. “He threw her in the dirt!”
Aaron sighed, shaking his head softly. “That is not nice of him at all, you deserve a boy who respects you and makes you happy. Not someone who makes you feel bad like Andy did when he threw Blankie in the dirt. I’ll make sure to give Blankie a good wash when we get home, alright?”
You nodded and sighed, giving Aaron a tight hug. “Thanks, Daddy, she needs to be clean. I’m not going near Andy again!”
Aaron chuckled softly and lifted you up into his arms, walking out of the preschool room to sign you out at reception. “You stick to that, girl! Andy is bad news.”
You nodded in agreement. “Bad bad news.”
Aaron knew that as you got older he’d have to get used to the fact that you’d have boyfriends come and go, maybe have your heart broken a few times but that was life. He just hoped you’d find someone that made you happy. If you were happy, he was happy.

Hey i love your Tokyo Revengers Omegaverse. Could I please request a Omega teen son reader where Bonten finds out he has a boyfriend and that his boyfriend cheated on him.
P.S. I hope you find a heads up penny and have good luck all week.
That's an incredibly kind thing to say my dude, thank you
🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑
Being the only child of the eight most dangerous men in Japan made Bonten paranoid about their child's safety.
Being their Omega son though?
They didn't let people get near him on a good day.
They sent (name) to a luxury private school, best money could get as a point was brought up when (name) was quite young that isolation could do some weird things to a kid so they put him in the best and most secure private schools starting at preschool.
It turned out to be great, (name) making friends and even joining a club.
Though because of school, (name) wasn't supervised by his dad's and in turn the Omega developed crushes on others.
"Your boyfriend cheated on you?"
Bonten was shocked to say the least, never hearing of any so called boyfriend and now they're learning he cheated on their precious son?!
"H-he cheated on me with my so called best friend!"
'A bunch of snakes' were the father's thoughts they glanced at one another, almost mentally commutating a meeting later.
(Name) had always been a hopeless romantic, unlike his father's who were cynical at best with the concept of love, all of them not particularly interested in anything long term, their focus being on two things: Their empire and their son.
Anything else came second.
Including themselves as a strange pack.
But for now they comforted their son who was all but a mess.
"You cheated on (name)?!" (Exes name)s dad looked horrified, the C.E.O was nervous to say the least as he immediately recognized the photo of the teen, that was the Bonten heir.
The son of the most dangerous men in Japan.
"You had a golden opportunity and now... You destroyed it because you couldn't keep your stupid dick in your god damn pants" (father's name) always wanted an in with Bonten, this would have been perfect!
And then the true realization came upon him (exes name) looking confused "you cheated on the son of Bonten..." His voice was almost Terrified but the teen didn't quite grasp it "yeah so?"
"You practically signed your death warrent if (name) is angry enough at you" his dad said simply and that's when it sunk in.
"What do you want us to do duckling" Koko asked his son who had just stopped crying momentarily "want us to get rid of him?"
"No... I just--- I don't want to be near him..." (Name) mumbled as he took his collar off, he forgot he had it on and his dad's scented him lovingly, trying to comfort their pup.
"Why don't you go get changed and we can run you a bath? Maybe order food?" Kakucho said and (name) nodded as he went to go change clothes.
"Make the calls" Mikey said simply and the others for to work.
The next day (exes name) was transferred to a school across the country that had boarding.

Okay, so remember when Aaron’s hot young brother came to visit? What if he tried to hit on Aaron’s wife because Aaron is soo secretive and hasn’t told anyone he’s married.
In this.... Haley and Jack DONT exist.
Aaron Hotchner doesn't wear his wedding ring at work. He'll wear it when he's with you, but never at work. It was something he felt like he could do to protect you and his family from a potential unsub.
While he never wore it at work, he always had a small picture of you and the kids in his wallet. He also had a small tattoo of your children's initials over his heart. When he went for a pool day at Rossi's he always made sure to cover it up.
He wasn't ashamed he was married to you, he also wasn't ashamed to be a father to his two children, but he wanted to protect him. So, when you and Aaron started dating, he vowed he'd keep you and your twins a secret in his work life.
You were a single mom to twins when you met Aaron, your twins just a year old at the time. You were trying to get your daughter to stop crying at the restaurant and then your son was making a mess. Just as your daughter had stopped crying, your son had some how hit the table hard enough to spill the water near you, causing you to become soaked and a stranger sitting at the table across from you coming over to help get you napkins.
You swore it was love at first sight. He introduced himself and then proceeded to tell you that he was an FBI agent when you questioned how he was so good with kids as he quickly was trying to make your daughter laugh while you were cleaning up your son and the mess.
When the mess was cleaned up, you profusely thanked him, saying something along the lines of how hard it is as a single mom trying to entertain one kid, the other does something up to no good.
He knew it had to take his shot. This could be his future family if he played his cards right. You were gorgeous and your kids were adorable.
As he asked for your number, you blushed giving it to him. He made a promise he'd call you when he got back to work so that you'd have his number.
A few dates after that phone call solidified your love for Aaron. You know it was quick, but he was so good, so understanding. You had a sitter cancel on your 3rd date and he dropped all the plans he had and came over to your apartment, opting for a movie night and a home cooked meal instead.
When you two got married, it was just a small wedding. Your parents and siblings, your kids, and your best friend. He had talked about keeping you and your kids a secret, not wanting an unsub to know you exist in his life and could be used against Aaron.
Your kids were almost 4 now, 3 years of knowing Aaron was the best 3 years of your life. He was the perfect husband, the perfect father.
After getting a call from the preschool that your twins attended saying they were sick, you picked them up, trying to call Aaron. When he didn't answer, you knew you had to go to the bureau.
Your twins were not angels when they were sick and you knew it was hard when your daughter was attached to Aaron. It's why they called Aaron first at preschool because your daughter kept asking, but they had to call you when he didn't answer.
As you made your way to his unit, you saw someone sitting outside the doors. As you sat down next to him, you heard him say, "Your kids are cute."
"Thank you."
"Makes sense when they get their looks from you."
You knew you weren't wearing your wedding ring in visible sight, so you knew that the unsolicited flirting was going to happen.
"Is this the waiting line?"
"Yeah, my brother is a very popular person apparently."
"I understand."
You chuckled and you began to run your hands through your son's hair, getting him to lie down next to you on the bench.
"Being a single mom must be tough, I'm good with kids, my little cousins love me."
Just before you had time to respond, you saw Aaron appear. Your kids yelling, "Daddy!"
The man looked at you and said, "You're married to him?"
Aaron said, "Sean, this is my wife, Y/n. Our kids y/d/n and y/s/n. Y/n, this is my little brother, Sean."
"Wife?"
Except it wasn't just Sean's voice. It was a group of people that you assumed to be Aaron's team. Everyone who he always talks about at work, that you've seen pictures and videos of, but never could meet them because you talked about the nature of his job and wanting to keep you and the kids safe.
"Sir, how long have you been holding out on us?"
Aaron looked at you and said, "Almost 3 years."
You wanted to laugh at the looks of the people's faces surrounding you, then you heard the comment from your husband.
"Sean, can you please assume someone isn't a single mom before you begin flirting with them."
You chuckled at that. It was harmless flirting, but still funny. It's also good to know that you could still pull men if something were to ever happen to you and Aaron.
You spoke up, "We owe you all a dinner and an explanation, but, we have two sick kids that we have to get home. I'll have Aaron set up a time and date for when you can come over and ask all the questions you want."
Someone came up and hugged you and said, "I can't believe you're real. We knew he had to be dating someone, but married to someone hot like you! It's like our wildest dreams. Sir! She's a good one."
"Y/n, that would be Penelope."
"I've heard a lot about you. Thanks for brightening up my husband's office."
She hugged you tighter at that.
While you waited for your husband to finish talking with his brother, you made your way to a desk chair and talked with his coworkers for a few minutes.
After leaving the office, you knew that you had a new family who would protect you with everything they had. Aaron wouldn’t be mad. He was more mad that his younger brother was hitting on you, especially since he was already so insecure of himself.
However, when you got home and got the kids down for a nap, you made sure to show Aaron how much he really means to you and how he doesn’t need to be so insecure. He was the only guy you had eyes for.

Miraculous Halloween Fic Recs
It's Halloween, so I figured that people might be in the mood for some spooky, supernatural, or just plain Halloween-related fics! All of these are complete.

Herbs And Steam by @liiinerle
Juleka le Flor Blef, nature witch from near the forest of Couffaine, arrives at Eiffel Castle so she can partake in the Queen's Trials - a contest to determine the strongest witch in all of France. She wants to prove the strength of her magic, but when she arrives, her attention is quickly distracted by two very interesting women: Kagami, the princess, who seems to act nothing like a princess should; and Marinette, the blacksmith, who has created a magic all her own through metal, steam, and ingenuity. Juleka is immediately besotted with both of them, and needs to work extra hard to focus on her magic. Juleka also soon becomes aware that there is stronger magic at Eiffel castle than she had expected. For one thing, there's a tree in the courtyard put there years ago by a witch whose powers seem to surpass hers; for another, there's Alya la Pluvie Versaunt, who must be the most powerful mage Juleka has ever met...
Unusual poly here, there aren't a lot of Juleka/Kagami/Marinette fics! I love the world here, getting to see all these different witches honing their craft, and Juleka making friends with many of them - though especially the nonwitches Kagami and Marinette, of course XD. If you like some femslash or a good fantasy AU, this fic should scratch that itch!

Soul Seeker by hislittlelady
After a shooting on her 6th birthday, Marinette Dupain-Cheng died. She was brought to the afterlife by her grandmother. She was content. Until the paramedics did their jobs and suddenly she wasn’t dead anymore. Waking up to find that half of her soul had remained tethered to the afterlife, allowing her the ability to see things others can’t, Marinette grows up an outcast. It isn’t until she moves in with her only friend, a detective she’s known since preschool, that she finds her purpose, solving his harder cases with the help of her spiritual connections. Three years later, she’s thriving. Her own business, two best friends, a K-9 drop out as a companion- life couldn’t get better. Until she meets Chat. A ghost with amnesia and a mask to match, Chat isn’t sure what he needs to move on to the afterlife (and, considering he’s stuck around for another three years, he doesn’t seem in all that much of a hurry to figure it out either!) When Amelie Agreste, a socialite from out of town, comes to Marinette for help locating her missing nephew, Marinette knows her career and her life will be on the line. But even a murderer intent on silencing her forever can’t keep Marinette from seeking the truth.
This is a really fun detective story. You can probably guess one or two of the major twists (not counting the twist of "Adrien is Chat Noir" which I certainly HOPE isn't a spoiler to anyone reading this), but that doesn't make it any less satisfying, especially with how Marinette's and Chat's relationship is developed. Or well, what interactions we see from them, since they've known each other for years by the time the story starts. I adore the "my friend is a ghost" trope, and the identity shenanigans and mystery around what actually happened to Adrien kept me wondering.
It's an M-rated fic, which I'm guessing is mostly due to an attempted sexual assault at one point in the story, though it doesn't get very far before it's stopped. I also want to warn Luka fans that he's not shown in the best light in this fic, though it's not too extreme.

Through Yellow Eyes by @echo-has-queries
"Nooroo bleeds and Paris drowns in his blood." The day of the Blight, Paris bore witness to a horror too grand to comprehend. Only Chloé Bourgeois bore witness to a miracle. Marinette, Alya and the rest of Paris will need more than faith in Gimmi to survive. As the city's sanity hangs by a thread, bodies, minds, and souls are traded with the unknown in order to hold on to the things they each treasure most. Written for the AU Roulette Challenge 2024 with the prompt: Cosmic Horror AU
If you like Cosmic Horror (Lovecraftian I think? Though this isn't really my wheelhouse), then this is the story for you! I love seeing how Paris copes with the madness seeping through its streets, somehow going about daily life despite it all.
Kwamis here are more inhuman, more separated from humanity. There's no cute little miniature form to help bridge the gap. While humans can still meld with kwami, it's not all quite as firmly in the human's control as it normally is, and the side effects are worse. It doesn't help that the kwamis can't fully understand squishy little humans' wants, needs, or morality.
Like, as Ladybug, Marinette can't remember her human name, and her human concerns are somewhat muted. While as Marinette, she can't remember certain aspects of her time as Ladybug, and only regains those memories when she transforms again. She also has to be careful about restoring everything, as she can't just give Tikki a cookie and call it a day. Instead, she herself needs to eat enough to compensate for the lost energy, which can be a substantial portion of the goods in her parents' bakery.
As for Adrien... well, this is still going off of Sentimonster Adrien, though the ritual to create him went differently... and went wrong. But he is still Adrien.
Chloe's interesting as well, she's this sort of priest, this missionary for the kwamis, but her methods are... well, not the best. She still has a bunch of her canonical hangups, even though she IS somewhat helpful.
I love Alya in here, she's just desperately trying to figure out what's going on so that she can try to fix it, especially since Nino's one of the people who's been driven mad by the Blight. She does find some answers, and even ends up being partially responsible for Ladybug's creation and Chat's and Ladybug's subsequent fight against the worst effects of the Blight, but the risks, danger, and side effects she suffers are still significant. Though some of those side effects can be used to her advantage.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this AU and thought it was an interesting take on the subject, I highly recommend checking it out!

Centuries Overdue by @rosie-b
Long ago, an evil Darkness spread across Europe, claiming the lives of many in the magic community. Trained by Plagg himself, Adrien made it his mission to stop the Darkness before it snuffed out the lives of more Mages and Talents, as it did to his own parents. Though he seemed to succeed in his mission, the pages of his old journals tell a different tale. In the modern world, Marinette is a fashion student, working at a small library for the summer to earn extra credit. She’s never believed in magic before, but when she finds the old Agreste journals in her library, her beliefs about reality begin to crumble. Determined to find the truth, both about magic and the unsolved death of one Adrien Agreste, Marinette begins on a journey that will eventually lead her deep into the city’s catacombs, where an ancient force sleeps, but is ready to awaken once more…
If you want a nice Magic AU, this is your jam! I slowly became more invested with Adrien's fate as Marinette did, and I loved seeing bits of this magic society. And of course, Adrien and Marinette always find their way to each other, even if Marinette happens to be a few centuries overdue.

the monster who loves you by @purplecatghostposts
Mum nods, clapping her hands together. “Your brother is finally feeling better and is coming home today! Isn’t that so exciting?” Félix pauses mid-bite, processing her words. Mum waits expectantly, as if expecting him to jump for joy, or his equivalent of it. But… Félix doesn’t have a brother. (Or Félix’s brother is a monster, but only in the most literal sense. Félix’s father is a monster despite being very, very human. He learns to navigate the world through these two truths.)
I loved how this story emphasized the differences between different kinds of monsters - the type who inhabit horror stories, who look terrifying, and the mundane, human sorts of monsters who are often the most dangerous. And how monsters can choose to act humanely, while humans can choose to act monstrously.

See This Chance by @19thsentry-blog
Luka died in 2016. Yep. Crushed by the Arc de Triumph when Mayura’s Robustus slammed into it. It was kind of a big deal, but once you’re dead, you’re dead—especially when there’s no Lucky Charm to bring you back. Luka’s been dealing with it in the typical ways. Written for FeLuka week 2023.
Yes, this is FeLuka. Not one of the typical ships I read, but I ain’t opposed to it, and this is a nice foray into the pairing. I love ghost AUs! Luka’s just fumbling around, unsure what to do with his incorporeal existence, until he starts haunting Felix. It’s an intriguing plot and I gotta admit, I wish it was longer so it could be fleshed out more, but what’s here is good.

Attack of the Crystal Zombies by @trainsinanime
Kagami had spent more and more time hanging out with Zoé, talking about things like families, expectations and crushes on Marinette. It was only natural, probably, that she would help Zoé practice flirting. That was definitely a great idea. Granted, the deadly Akuma battle around them was a bit of an issue…
Quality Zoegami fic here! I loved how Kagami kept thinking she was bad at flirting, but it was sure working on Zoe XD. The akuma attack going on around them, interweaving with their conversation, added a bit of spice to the whole affair!

Anchor by @liiinerle
“Marinette. Please take that sabre out of your neck.” “Right. Thanks. I forgot it was there.” She grabbed hold of the guard and pulled; the blade slid out like it had only been run through butter. After dropping it on the floor, she picked up one of the teacups and picked up a biscuit from a tin she’d brought in; she placed the biscuit on the saucer plate and handed the whole thing to Kagami, who could only really resign herself to accepting it. —– Marinette has raised Kagami from the dead, and also happens to be dead herself. It turns out some bad choices were made in the past. But that doesn’t mean they’ll lead to bad outcomes for them now.
I love this, Marinette’s incredibly blase about being a zombie - which makes sense, given how long she’s had to get used to the idea. And she’s waited so long, tried so hard to bring Kagami back as well, though if she didn’t WANT to be back, she’d accede to that request. Luckily, Kagami doesn’t seem to mind as long as she’s with Marinette XD.

delicate in every way but one by katrinette
When Marinette finds a wanted ad that provokes just enough questions in her mind that she can’t help answering it, the reward is sweeter than she could have imagined.
I love the little bit of worldbuilding we get here about vampire society, and Adrien’s usual awkward adorableness in asking Marinette for a certain necessary favor. It’s always neat to see such familiar characterization in a supernatural setting like this.

How Marinette Learned to Stop Worrying And Love The Ball by @rosie-b
Hidden from the crowds thronging around the busy fairy portal in Paris’s town square, a fae gate sits at the edge of the forest, locked, rusty, and full of ancient magic. Marinette thinks that this abandoned gate must not work anymore… but one day, a fairy disguised as a black cat steps through it.
Ah, Fantasy Soulmate AUs, my beloved XD. This ain’t the only one of this fic type I’m gonna be recommending. This is just a cute fluff fic without much strife. I love Marinette and Chat Noir being able to be childhood friends via his visits, even if he has to pretend to be her cat whenever he comes over, and I ESPECIALLY adore Alya being his chaperone and quickly becoming friends with Marinette in her own right. It ain’t a complicated plot, but it is a nice and warm fic.
---
a winter so warm by @rosekasa
winters were hard for even the best of vampires, but at least adrien had marinette to keep him warm with her cuddles. december was going to suck without her. so it was only to be expected to get extra cuddles in before she left, right? (well, not really, considering those heating supplements he was taking, but she didn’t need to know about that).
This one’s mostly just cute cuddly adorableness! It’s basically like all those “Marinette gets the Ladybug trait of needing to cuddle up to someone for warmth”, but with Adrien instead. And of course featuring Marinette being a very talented witch who just wants to help Adrien stay warm when she isn’t there XD.

Stitched Together by @nedjsmlfavs
Stitch Witch Marinette was just supposed to be having a nice, terrifying outing with her best friends. She never expected to find a magically trapped kitten, but here we are! Whatever happened to this poor little guy?
Poor Adrien, being transformed and chained up for ages, having no idea that he was gonna be rescued. But at least he got to have fun at Marinette’s place as a cat!
Most of this fic is adorable, though with some dark undertones lying in wait. After all, SOMEONE chained up that poor little kitty…

I Put A Spell On You by dazaimaru
Friday, October 25. 6 days until Halloween.
It’s their first high school Halloween dance, and Marinette and Adrien are ready to throw on some non-superhero costumes for once--that is, until an akumatized witch spoils the party and threatens to reveal what lies underneath everyone’s disguise.
With Hawkmoth taking full advantage of the spooky season, the days leading up to Halloween are certainly going to be thrilling! Especially considering Marinette’s growing feelings for a certain black cat…
This one’s mostly just some really cute Lovesquare shenanigans around Halloween, with some really fun sequences like Marinette and Adrien getting body-swapped and Marinette temporarily becoming a vampire (and also Marinette repeatedly stunning Adrien with her outfits. I was just waiting for him to pass out from blood loss from a nosebleed).

don't you worry child by @mexicancat-girl
Marc and Nathaniel have a good life, married and living together in a cottage in the woods. But they consider having children at some point. Marc in particular really wants to start a family with his husband. He knows the fey are real, so he goes searching in the woods to find one to strike a deal. He may get a bit more than he bargained for in the process.
This is based on a tumblr post that’s been going around, which I think a lot of people will recognize as they continue going through the story. That post is credited at the end of the fic, so as not to spoil the plot.

The Convention by Peppermint_Shamrock
“Oh, sure, when Ladybug comes up with unusual solutions, it’s “clever” and “inspiring”. But when I do it, it’s “oh no” and “you’re going to get us all killed, Marinette”,” she grumbled. “At least Adrien believes in me.” When an Akuma rages through a comic convention, everyone is forcibly transformed into their own cosplays. Unable to transform into Ladybug, Marinette has no choice but to fight as a civilian alongside her friends. At least she was dressed as her partner. Ghost of You by its_just_lori
It finally happened. The akuma attacked at the wrong time. They weren't prepared. For the first time, there was a casualty. Someone was killed. Marinette didn't care that her identity was exposed to the world; she couldn't stop blaming herself for what happened. If only she'd been ready... if only she'd done more... There's nothing for Adrien to say. There's nothing he can do other than stay by her side and help her through this pain.

The Pink Lady: Marichat May 2018 by @seasonofthegeek
In this story, Chat Noir, Carapace, Rena Rouge, Queen B, and Paon are the heroes of Paris. The Ladybug Miraculous has been lost for almost a century and it takes all of their combined power to cleanse akumas sometimes but they’ve found something that works since they don’t have another option. Hawkmoth is one of their villains, but not the only one plaguing Paris. Chat Noir happens upon an old hotel one night on patrol and discovers something and someone he didn't expect.

This is based off something that happens nearly every day in my place of work.
-
“Steve!” Heather hissed from her corner desk. “H.D. is out there!”
Steve stood up from his stool quickly, nearly sending it toppling to the ground. He raced around the tables in the room, settling near Heather’s desk and looking out the window. Robin had followed his steps, looking out from behind him.
“What in hell are you two on about?” She asked.
“Hot Dad.” Steve pointed out the window, at the man he and Heather has christened Hot Dad last year.
The preschool parents always grouped up outside the secondary entrance near the end of the day, waiting from their little ones to come out from the lower level preschool classrooms. And there, every single day, was Hot Dad, picking up his littlest girl, waiting for the older two from the main elementary.
Robin sighed, slinking back to her desk. The Special Ed classroom had an excellent view of the parking lot, and meant Heather and Steve had ample opportunity to stare at Hot Dad.
Today, was an especially good day. He was wearing shorts.
As in, short short
The gray athletic material was riding up on his thick thighs, a pink sparkly backpack slung over one shoulder, his hand in his daughter’s.
His three girls were nearly the spitting image of him, long, curly blond hair. Giant blue eyes that always crinkled up with chubby-cheeked smiles.
Steve had only interacted with him a handful of times, when he had opened up the car door to let the kids out of the back during the morning drop-off rush. He always said hello to Hot Dad, wishing him a good day as Hot Dad called to his girls, telling them he loves them.
“Why is it kinda extra hot that he’s a girl dad?” Steve said to a Heather, staring intently at H.D.
“I don’t know, but I get what you mean. And I mean, three girls is a lot for one man.” She sighed. “Do you think he reads them bedtime stories?”
“Oh, definitely. And I bet he does voices for all the little characters.”
“And he probably plays whatever they want.”
“Yeah, and I bet he’s all about making sure they’re tough. I’ll bet he wrestles around with them and wants to teach them how to fix cars and shit.”
Steve and Heather sighed, embarrassingly, at the same moment.
“Jesus, you two,” Robin chimed in. “Can you two go somewhere else to be this gross about a father at our school?”
“Nope! Not when it’s Hot Dad. Listen, you know I don’t want kids of my own, but a for Hot Dad, I’ll be a step mom. For sure.” Heather grinned at Robins wrenching sound. “I mean, they won’t have to call me Mom, but the youngest is only four, so it may be natural to her!”
Steve cackled, gently pushing Heather.
Steve returned to his desk, trying to ge Hot Dad out of his mind. He really needed to focus, and finish these accommodation letters to send out to the teachers, and he needed to-
“Hargrove.”
“What?” Steve turned to Robin. She turned her laptop around, one of Hot Dad’s precious daughters on the screen.
“His name is Hargrove. Billy, I’m assuming.” She turned the screen back towards herself. “And, he’s the only person listed as a parent for all three girls. They’re emergency contacts are listed as Father, Aunt, and Grandmother. Nothing maternal to speak of.”
Steve’s eyes lit up.
“What do you think are the chances he’s in to men? Because like, I’m not a classroom teacher. I don’t even have any of his kids in the program, so it wouldn’t be weird.”
Robin rolled her eyes at him, returning to whatever she was typing on her computer before the HD distraction.
“Yeah, because that would be weird. Yelling about how hot he is in front of an open window, that’s normal. But teaching his kids? Too far.”
Steve stuck his tongue out at her.
And then her words settled in.
“The window’s open?”

Forts, Fruit Snacks, & Flying
Tumblr media
Summary: How will Natasha react when she sees the footage of your daughter’s high flying escapades with Peter while you two were in Paris celebrating your anniversary?
Pairings: Natasha x reader, Yelena, Kate, Peter x reader (platonic).
Genre: Fluff
Word Count: 800
Warnings: None
A/N: @togrowoldinv suggested a fic where Natasha finds out about Mila’s flying with Peter in We’re a Family. This can also be read as a stand-alone story. I hope you enjoy it!
It was a bright and sunny Wednesday afternoon. You and Natasha have been home for almost two weeks; your unforgettable anniversary trip to Paris is still fresh in our minds. I had resumed my work routine, and even in her semi-retirement, Natasha had spent the last three days at the compound, dedicating her time to training a couple of new recruits.
As the meeting dragged on, you began to fret about picking up Mila from preschool. Aware that Nat wouldn't be available for another two hours, you decided to send a text to your sister-in-law.
You: Hey Yelena, I'm stuck at work. Nat is training recruits until 5 pm. Can you pick up Mila from preschool and bring her home? We should be home around 5:30 p.m.
Yelena: No problem! Peter, Kate Bishop, and I just finished an outreach event at the library. We’re only a couple blocks from her school.
You: Thank you! You’re the best sister-in-law ever. Tell Kate and Peter I say thank you as well. We’ll see you in a bit.
As Mila reached for her purple unicorn backpack tucked inside her designated cubby, she spotted Yelena, Kate, and Peter gathered near the doorway.
"Surprise, little spider! We're here to pick you up," Yelena exclaimed.
"Where's Mommy and Mama?" Mila asked as she hugged the trio.
“They’ll be home soon,” Yelena explained. “Meanwhile, we get to go home and play. What do you say?”
"Yay!" exclaimed the little girl.
*^~^*
After arriving home and giving Mila a snack, your daughter wanted to build a blanket fort. After some expert engineering, the four sat down inside the fort and enjoyed Welch’s Fruit Snacks.
Mila looked over at Peter, “Did you bring your flying suit with you?”
“Oh, not today, sweetheart. I’m sorry,” Peter frowned.
Your little girl seems on the verge of tears when Kate interrupts. "Mila, do you want to see the video of you flying with Peter when you stayed with us? I have it on my phone."
She nods, and Kate tosses the video to the AirPlay on your big-screen TV. At that very moment, you and Natasha walked in the front door. Natasha’s eyes go wide as she takes in the 4K footage of your five-year-old daughter flying through the air on Spider-Man's back, while Mila runs up to hug you.
“What the hell?!” Natasha shouted.
“Mama said a bad word,” your daughter tattled, pointing at Nat.
“Yeah, sweetie, that was a bad word… Why don’t we go unpack your backpack?” you suggested as your little girl ran to you.
“Don’t kill him,” you said with a smirk and a hand on her shoulder as you walked by with Mila in your arms.
Natasha stares Peter down with a look that he’s only seen on missions. “Okay, I know what you’re thinking, Nat— Ms. Black Widow, Romanoff. But she was safe the entire time. I would never drop her. We put pillows down on the floor, and she had a blast,” Peter asserted.
“Peter, shut up,” Kate whispered.
“Good advice,” Nat remarked, taking a step toward Peter.
“Come on sestra, you know we did fun things like that all the time back in Ohio,” Yelena reasoned.
Nat is about to give it to Peter when she catches sight of her daughter’s face on the screen.
“Wee!! Faster, Uncle Peter!” Mila giggled.
Natasha's heart warmed at seeing her carefree and happy little girl, Mila, embodying everything she had hoped for her. Looking back at Peter, she maintained her best Black Widow poker face without missing a beat.
“I have two things to say to you. One—never do that again unless she is in mortal danger, or you will be the one in mortal danger. Two—can you send me that video?”
“I’m sorry, what?” Peter squirmed.
“Can you send me that video?” Natasha repeated. “I want it for her baby book.”
A look of relief washes over Peter’s face. “Oh, sure. Umm, Kate has it.” Peter said, pointing at the young archer.
Kate nodded and sent Nat the video, her phone pinging in confirmation.
“Thanks, and thank you for picking up Mila today. Would you three like to stay for dinner?”
“Sure, that would be great,” Yelena replied.
Nat walked away, leaving the three young Avengers standing in the living room.
“Dude, you’re sweating,” Kate giggled.
“You don’t need to be afraid of her. She isn’t as scary as she looks,” Yelena said.
“Really?” Peter said, with a raised eyebrow.
“No, she could kill you in two seconds. But look on the bright side, she didn’t. That means she likes you!” Yelena said, patting Peter on the back.
“Awesome,” Peter squeaked.
