But Rin with her new identity decides to walk forward (with love comes pain#but to love at all was the greatest thing to her.) She cherishes her new memories and won't let it stop her from moving on#inbetween this time frame she meets isobu in her mind after he gains enough form within her (who is also without memories)#Now WAY LATER she meets Sukea who looks like he's about to panic and she tries to help (which uh doesnt work too well)#but then Sukea joins her on her travels (sending minato an letter through his summons of rin being alive and forgetting the mission)#they both wander around (he doesnt know how to bring up their past) but then obito appears (always at the wrong times)#At first glance he's pissed but then realizes that this isnt fake AND its both the worse thing yet best thing to ever happen#Now Rin thinks she made two new friends who give her feelings of warmth but they both also reminded her of something old she thinks#PS Minato and Kushina are freaking out back in the village but can't do anything about it (Obito hasn't acted on his plans yet so yes)

Also, Nohara Rin coulda gotten Haruno Sakura started on learning medical ninjutsu immediately after the Wave mission and (if she's still Isobu's jinchūriki) helped Uzumaki Naruto start befriending Kurama. I dunno how canon Rin coulda helped Uchiha Sasuke, but my version of her has a similar backstory thus she coulda been his confidant whilst Hatake Kakashi handles teaching him kenjutsu. It'd be adorable to see Kakashi-x-Rin partially parenting the jōnin-sensei's 3 subordinates (although, Sakura has her bio parents and Naruto kinda has Iruka; of the three, Sasuke would need the support most since he doesn't have anyone if the Uchiha massacre still happens even when Rin survives being kidnapped by Kiri-nin). I'd be excited to see what plot-affecting choices Rin makes and how her relationship with Kakashi & friendships with other Konoha-nin develop. Plus there's Konoha civilians and non-Konoha people she could interact with! Maybe Rin would develop a bitter platonic rivalry with Terumī Mei? There's so much potential to develop her character! What little was shown of Rin in canon is a good start and simply needs some polishing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their body language tells everything. Imagine if they were growing up together. Kakashi complaining about his daily life as jounin teacher, when his team gave him a headache, he will grumble a lot, and Rin would listen wholeheartedly: "Yes, I'm listening to you, Darling."

Old sketches of Love will find you (this is a threat)
Never thought I’d ever see Itarin in a fic. But yk what? Hell yeah. Girl’s got a type
Kinda admire the dedication of the author for making Rin and Sasuke meet, bc they’re pretty much aligning every star out there to make that happen lol. With Rin being married to Itachi and pregnant with their first child (making Sasuke an uncle (?!) That’s gonna be funny when he finds that out) and being Orochimaru’s student as well (AND being buddies with team Taka), it’s pretty much confirmed that they’re going to talk AT THE VERY LEAST once.

i'm curious what do you think your characterization of Rin (lack of feeling like a real person/nothing is there) would think of Sakura (so much of a person she represses it and has a whole other person in her head). Would they recognize this about each other, would it be disastrous. Would they hate each other or ?? Your Rin analysis has opened by mind to her character in such an interesting way
OH BOY! so the main barrier between the two of them being weird about that is that rin doesn't want anyone to find out anything about her ever and sakura likewise is not terribly upfront about her inner. and also neither of them are the kind of person to really try and figure out each other, so in a world where they exist together, they just probably.... wouldn't notice.
but disregarding that? if we wave our hands and say that somehow they both know about each other? mwah ha ha we have an absolutely beautiful dynamic on our hands. i think both of them would be able to see the superficial connection that can be drawn between them (team seven. girl.) and dismiss it as... not accurate. both of them are side-eyeing each other thinking she's literally not me??? not at all??? sakura would find rin mildly interesting but not be terribly concerned by her existence, i think... she doesn't strike me as the kind of person who spends a lot of time ruminating on other people's misfortunes. rin, of course, would get weird, because how on earth is it fair that she doesn't have ANYTHING but this girl's got TWO?!?!
what's most interesting to me is the ways that they ARE similar which is mostly. the repression. but it manifests in such different ways!!! rin puts on a mask because she feels like she has to control the way she is perceived. she doesn't want anyone to discover what's "really" underneath her skin (nothing) but also yes she does. but she's also not sure if anyone would believe her if she tried to tell them. so by wanting to hide and continually putting on a mask of the thing that people want to see in her she's able to tell herself that she IS in control of what they see her as and she can stop at anytime she wants.
sakura, on the other hand, wears a mask because she wants to be "better"... i think i'm not a sakura scholar so someone can correct me if i'm wrong about this. she wants to be normal but also strong and capable, and she believes that by acting in the way she wants to be she will eventually get there. and if uh. inner just fucking disappearing in shippuden is anything to go off of i guess it worked! that's. that's terrifying lol.
so basically the main difference between their styles of repression is that rin puts on a mask in order to protect the illusion of control she needs (and her repression has nothing to do with the mask really. she doesn't like that thing!!!) and sakura puts on a mask in order to become it. which is just. SUCH a fascinating dynamic for foils. i don't have anything concrete to say about it i just think it's neat :3

And the Nohara...
The purple Markings :) yep
An Uzushigakure Clan, close with reptiles (snakes and lizards) and the main medical/poison specialist of the Village.
They have two main branches.
The Shikon (fang) Branch have eyes markings. They work with snakes, poisons and medicine. Everything that does something to the body without "touching" it. They have particular like characteristics, like a long tongue and elongating body membres (arms/neck).
The Sukēru (scale) Branch have cheek markings. They work with Lizards, nerve strike Taijustu and Tealing Justus. They can lose and regrow membres and organs. Yes, the heart too. (As long as they can use their chakra and still a completely healthy and functioning brain)
Both Branch have reptile like yellow eyes, sharp long fangs, little scales on their body and a naturally "poisonous" chakra.
Orochimaru is mostly of the Shikon Branch. Rin is mostly of the Sukēru Branch.
It is quite common for the two Branch to marry into eachother.
Rin : *gasp as she quite literally come back to life* Holy fucking shit- worst way to destroy a seal, would NOT recommend-
Kakashi : RIN !? D';
Obito : RIN !? D';
Rin : Madara's a lil bitch.

I’ve been thinking of her a lot lately and it just feels like a lost opportunity sadly 🥲
Tumblr media
every day i think about how nohara rin could have had so much more depth in her character
even if we were to keep the whole her being a medic-nin thing stemming from most of the girls having support roles in naruto, there STILL could have been exploration of her life. even if we didn’t rewrite her to not be existing solely to die and fuel male trauma, she had so much potential for depth that wasn’t taken because of misogynistic writing!
if we’re sticking by the idea that she had a ““normal”” life (growing up with parents with no major traumatizing events or deaths of loved ones or friends before obito) there STILL could have been major depth. this also extends to sakura as well but mainly rin considering the environment rin grew up in.
rin’s generation grew up during a war period, where the child soldier system was bolstered even further. kannabi bridge was a mission being led by a 12 year old linked to the war. this was a normal.
the average age that kids graduated from the academy was 12 years old during naruto’s generation - in comparison, children were being allowed to graduate as young as 6 (kakashi) and 9 years old (rin and obito). konoha needed more fighters, so the training process was sped up so they could go into the field faster.
even if rin grew up “normally,” the normal of konohagakure and the shinobi system was terrible already. she wasn’t “not traumatized,” because in this system there’s a baseline amount of trauma expected already - it’s just that kakashi and obito had a lot of extra trauma on top of that.
rin’s character could have been an exploration of the system’s effect on kids, and that even without major events or being an orphan, everyone is still impacted in a negative way
(continued under read more)

Obito and Rin's relationship
I just read a text from a user talking about ObiRin and honestly, I was impressed that there were 6 shares and almost 80 likes on the comment. I wonder: do people even remember what Obito and Rin's relationship was like? Because from people's feedback, I can see that they clearly don't. The comment said that Obito and Rin were not best friends and that Obito's feelings for her were "platonic", and that her behavior towards him was "no big deal". So, I ask you: what does that mean to you? Romantic or platonic love?
So I'm left wondering: Are people really looking at this relationship and not coming to the obvious conclusion that Rin Nohara loved Obito Uchiha romantically and that her feelings for Kakashi were purely platonic due to his prodigy abilities in the same way that Karin and Ino had for Sasuke? This is surreal to me.
Tumblr media
Have you ever stopped to think about the parallels between ObiRin and NaruHina or do you prefer to confirm more information on Wikipedia, where anyone can edit and write whatever they want?
Tumblr media
I don't think that their friendship was platonic, precisely because of the romantic reaction that Obito and Rin had and that was concretized in their reunion scene… making a direct connection with the kiss attempt made by Rin when she was still alive.
Tumblr media
Platonic love is a type of love that involves feeling affection, admiration or even passion for someone, but without wanting to have a romantic or physical relationship with that person. In this sense, I can say that this was the case with Kakashi and Rin, since they literally had nothing special.
Tumblr media
She felt admiration for Kakashi because of his abilities and fame as a genius, but she never tried to kiss Kakashi once and even when Kakashi died, she wasn't there for him, but for Obito she was.
Tumblr media
Pink (meaning): pink means romance (as a primary meaning)
After her rejection, we never saw Rin try anything romantic with Kakashi or even form a solid relationship with him. In fact, their relationship went backwards instead of forwards to something more “meaningful”. They literally became just “teammates” and didn't have the same level of intimacy as she had with Obito.
Obito and Rin's relationship:
Tumblr media
Kakashi and Rin's relationship:
Tumblr media
So when someone tells me that their feelings (Obito and Rin) weren't romantic, even if they didn't show it verbally, you could clearly see that they liked each other beyond friendship, and not something platonic.
Tumblr media
Notice the clear change in Rin Nohara's personality/decision and feelings in these 2 scenes:
Tumblr media
I'm not a “romance genius”, but there are things that are too obvious not to be interpreted as romance. Besides, Kakashi has shown us countless times that what he felt for Rin was pure companionship in various situations. Even after her death, Kakashi saw her as a hallucination and saw her in other girls, but even though he had the opportunity to “date” girls similar to Rin, he never tried anything and never addressed any girl similar to Rin romantically, but rather, totally in a sense of companionship.
Tumblr media
Even though they resembled Rin, Kakashi never even tried anything with any of them and thought of her only as a friend, literally. He himself only used the word “friend” to refer to Rin. As, for example, in episode 354, where Kakashi says: “I couldn't protect my friend.”
Tumblr media
Or even when Sasuke said to Kakashi: “What if I had killed the person you love the most?!”
Tumblr media
And Kakashi's response? “Those people have already… been killed.”
Tumblr media
Kakashi has literally never, at any time in his life, seen Rin in a romantic light. Not before and not after… but Rin? I'm sorry, but it was very clear that she saw Obito romantically, she just didn't admit it to herself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So when someone says that Rin and Obito weren't best friends and that she didn't see Obito as a potential boyfriend or even like him romantically, I'm like:
Tumblr media
Obito and Rin were not only best friends since forever, but they also loved each other. It's so obvious that they would have ended up together romantically, that it really amazes me how there are people who actually have doubts about them in that sense. Obito & Rin is literally synonymous with romance and genuine love for each other. There are people who compare Obito and Rin with Kakashi and Guy, saying that their friendship was "similar", but for the love of the gods!!! Honestly, that has nothing to do with it. The friendship between both pairs was VERY different. In Kakashi and Guy you see friendship and rivalry, but in Obito and Rin you see love and romance.
Tumblr media
So I'm sorry, but anyone who compares Kakashi and Guy's relationship with Obito and Rin's is simply clueless. By the way, did Guy ever try to kiss Kakashi? Not that I can recall. Neither Kakashi nor Guy are gay. Besides, it was very clear that Rin's feelings for Kakashi literally disappeared when Kakashi confessed that he abandoned her at the end of the Gaiden saga (she only liked him for his abilities, and only had love and intimacy with Obito).
Tumblr media
And then:
Tumblr media
She could try to disguise it, but I've never seen Rin support Kakashi the way she supported Obito.
Tumblr media
“Rin never loved Obito romantically. She only had eyes for Kakashi! Obito never had a chance with her. He was a failure and Kakashi was a prodigy!” Let's see what Rin thinks about that.
Rin, after waiting 20 years to be reunited with only (Obito Uchiha), left Kakashi, her “love” behind forever.
Tumblr media
It doesn't take much to realize the obvious difference.

Thinking about two (three?) different "Rin Lives" AUs for "Naruto" in very different styles.
The first (Option 1A) is, of course, the classic where Rin survives having the Sanbi sealed inside her instead of having Kakashi kill her (while Obito watches). I can't exactly call Zetsu's sinister plan here unreasonable, but it does still rely heavily on a bunch of relatively unpredictable elements.
With Obito as a hostage, Zetsu has relatively intimate information on Rin, Kakashi, and Minato, but by that point, it's like a year out of date. What if Rin, Kakashi, and Minato have all been significantly changed by Obito's apparent death and have adjusted their techniques and procedures? The plan relies on 1) neither of Namikaze Minato's students (who also know Uzumaki Kushina and Jiraiya of the Sannin) having sufficient sealing knowledge to hold out long enough for help to arrive, 2) the YELLOW FLASH to be fully distracted and occupied while this is happening, and 3) Rin dying in such a way that it looks like Kakashi's fault. (Also, 4) no other Kiri nin catching on and having issues with all of this.)
Again, it's not exactly unreasonable that all of these elements came together in a tragedy, but also still too reliant for my liking on all of these different moving pieces who could potentially pull out skills and escape plans that Zetsu hasn't foreseen. I'll need to reread that part to figure out why clones / genjutsu weren't just used to fool Obito, who wasn't exactly in a good state to resist that kind of manipulation. (Itachi used Tsukuyomi on Kakashi at least once. Obito is under severe physical, mental, and emotional strain and only awakened his Sharingan directly before his kidnapping. He's so vulnerable.)
Option 1B for this AU, a twist on the classic, is that nothing about this mission was real. The Sanbi was never put inside Rin. Zetsu or Madara fooled a vulnerable Obito with a trick / gaslighting, and Zetsu has been desperately struggling to kill Nohara Rin for years to get her out of the way before a grieving / vengeful Obito notices that Rin isn't actually dead. This AU probably takes place before Minato's death. Kakashi and Minato have caught on to some attempted murder mystery going on here and they are SO overprotective.
OPTION 2 for a "Rin Lives" AU is actually a "Rin gets resurrected" AU. Obito catches on earlier that Madara and Zetsu are full of shit, but Obito still isn't exactly sane after everything, so while Obito has Rinnegan superpowers in the middle of the final fight, he throws Madara and Zetsu's plan out the window and somehow uses a stolen / modified version of Orochimaru's Edo Tensai technique to bring Nohara Rin fully back from the dead. Obito says a big "FUCK YOU" to all of those long conspiracies and wastes all of that ultimate power on fully resurrecting some random nobody girl he loved as a young teenager.
So, it's like: "Your name is Nohara Rin and you are no longer dead. You were turned into a bomb and killed yourself when you were 14 to save your village, and now you've been resurrected as though you never died; you're not exactly 14 anymore after the dreamy time you spent watching the world of the living, but you are definitely not actually 31. It's weird.
"The teammate you once thought was dead was actually kidnapped by two different madmen and has spent the past 15 years with them molding his body and whispering in his ears, only to betray them anyway. His hands are covered in so much blood and he's started a war and it was all apparently a trick to bring you back. So everyone is looking at you, shocked, and confused, because you're not special. All of that? For you? For some random dead girl? They were ready for the world to end. Obito is looking at you, satisfied, expectant, like you're supposed to have any answers or any kind of comfort for him.
"Minato-Sensei is here too, undead in a different way, not alive again like you are (at least, like you think you are), and so is Kakashi, all grown up the hard way. They are looking at you like a miracle and also like you're breaking their hearts all over again. And oh, no, Uchiha Madara and Zetsu are very, VERY mad right now, there's no time for any of this, is there? You died in one war and it's right back into another."

Note
What do you think of Rin Nohara? Generally people have overblown opinions about her. Dudebros and some other hate her because she didn’t return Obito’s love and confessed to Kakashi, Kakashi stans hate her because she “traumatized” their poor little meow meow. Her stans have overblown sense of importance and think Rin is the most important character ever.
Rin's thematic relevance has to do with her connection to Obito's development, in that regard, she's even more important than Kakashi, who has yet to have any weight upon his teammate's decisions.
I've said this before, Rin as a character is mostly used by Kishimoto as a reflection of Obito's dogma and attitude throughout the series; when she's alive and well, he thrives as a hopeful child, when she dies, his innocence is lost, and he becomes Tobi; distrustful of people's intentions and seeking a new world that he could control, for reality was hell.
Beyond that, she's not important for the plot or other characters (I admit she contributed to Kakashi's trauma, but she doesn't drive his actions as she does with Obito; Kakashi mostly relies on Obito's remembrance to perform his duties in the way he does), so I don't see why she receives as much hate as you say she does.
I've seen people comparing her to Sakura, which I think isn't fair as Rin was never mentioned to be superb when it comes to medical ninjutsu (albeit she did extract Obito's eye in the middle of the battlefield and transplanted it into Kakashi), but that's mostly the Sakura fandom trying to give Sakura the same relevance Rin has for Obito to either Naruto or Sasuke (depending on which character they're comparing).
Rin has every right to like Kakashi and confess to him, Obito never made his intentions clear; even if he had done so, she had the right to reject him, as her heart rested somewhere else; Kakashi quite clearly turned her away and she respected it, not bringing up the subject ever again.
Besides, why blame her for "traumatizing Kakashi further" when running towards his Chidori and not hate Sakumo for killing himself for his son to find his body? Better yet, why not blame Minato who was responsible for their cell, yet every time he left them to their own devices? Why not blame Konoha's government who put thirteen-year-olds on the front lines of the battle? Come on, why blame the nationalistic-brainwashed girl for performing the duty she was taught to do? Even Obito understood Kakashi was a mere pawn when it came to her death and placed blame upon the system where such blame belongs.

Naruto: 6 Most Pointless Sacrifices In The Series, Ranked
Some sacrifices in Naruto could have been avoided with better planning and alternative solutions.
Characters like Rin Nohara, Nagato, Neji Hyuga, Hiruzen Sarutobi, and Itachi Uchiha faced tragic and avoidable sacrifices.
The series showcases moments of self-sacrifice that are both emotional and thought-provoking, adding depth to the characters.
Naruto is an anime that needs no introduction, with Kishimoto's rich world-building and amazing characters elevating this series in the eyes of many. Fans can't help but love the brutal battles and emotional moments of this series, causing many fans to shed a tear when a beloved character meets their tragic end.
Naruto: Characters Who Ended Up Being Surprisingly Strong
One mustn't judge certain Naruto characters by their appearance. Here are some unlikely examples who turned out to be surprisingly strong.
2
As one would expect, Naruto is full of heroic moments where characters sacrifice themselves for the greater good. The majority of these moments will cause viewers to weep uncontrollably, but there are some sacrifices in the series that are downright pointless if fans really think about the circumstances surrounding them. Surely there was another way these characters could have handled the situations they found themselves in.
6Rin Nohara
She And Her Friends Could've Figured Out Another Way To Save Her From A Grim Fate
Tumblr media
Debut: Kakashi Chronicles ~ Boys' Life on the Battlefield ~ Part 1 (Episode 119 of Naruto: Shippuden)
After being abducted by the Kirigakure shinobi, Rin was forcibly turned into the jinchuriki of the Three-Tails. The plan was for her to turn into a human nuke who would destroy the village, but Rin let herself be pierced by Kakashi's Chidori to prevent this plan from coming to pass.
As brave as this sacrifice was, fans can't help but wonder why Rin didn't just isolate herself until a solution could be devised for the Three-Tails inside her. Not only was killing herself an extreme move, but it also served as the catalyst for Obito's downfall.
5.Nagato
Could've Walked A Different Path Had He Remembered The Faith Jiraiya Had In Him
Tumblr media
Debut: Tales of a Gutsy Ninja ~Jiraiya Ninja Scroll~ Part 2 (Episode 128 of Naruto: Shippuden)
There's no denying that Nagato is one of the most diabolical villains in Naruto, with his merciless killing of Jiraiya being hard to fathom. However, he had a change of heart after Naruto made it clear that Jiraiya believed in his powers and wanted him to save the shinobi world.
That being said, it's still odd that this Akatsuki member had a change of heart after one single conversation, to the point where he used the Rinne Rebirth jutsu to sacrifice himself and revive everyone he killed during the assault on Konoha. One can't help but feel that this change of heart could've come sooner, especially if he'd bothered to give Jiraiya the same time of day as Naruto.
4.Itachi Uchiha
His Sacrifice Was Meant To Save His Brother, But Sasuke Ended Up Destroying His Future Instead
Tumblr media
Debut: The Third Hokage, Forever... (Episode 80 of Naruto)
Itachi is one of the most tragic figures in Naruto. He killed the entirety of the Uchiha clan to save his brother and prevent the Leaf Village from succumbing to infighting once again. Unfortunately, not being able to justify his actions to Sasuke meant that his brother would walk down a path of hatred.
Naruto: Biggest Achievements Of Itachi Uchiha
Itachi Uchiha, one of the most iconic Naruto characters, has many great achievements.
Even after Sasuke learned of Itachi's plans, he just shifted his hatred to the higher-ups at Konoha who allowed this massacre to happen. Despite sacrificing everything he loved and spending his last moments alive protecting Sasuke, Itachi failed in his goal to protect his brother and sent him down a dark and vengeful path instead.
3.Neji Hyuga
Surely There Was A Better Way To Deflect The Ten-Tails' Projectile Attack
Tumblr media
Debut: Identify Yourself: Powerful New Rivals (Episode 21 of Naruto)
Neji is a prodigy who has incredible mastery over the Byakugan, which should've allowed him to deflect the Ten-Tails' projectile attacks without too many problems. Instead, the plot decided to put his powers on a cooldown just to facilitate a sacrifice that would show the horrors of war.
For a character who did nothing of note following the time-skip, Neji's sacrifice felt rather hollow. Fans bemoaned the loss of this character and hated how contrived his death was, adding to the list of reasons why the Fourth Shinobi World War was easily Naruto at its worst. Neji deserved a better, perhaps more heroic death.
2. Hiruzen Sarutobi
Took Away Orochimaru's Arms, Only For His Student To Regain The Use Of Jutsu Not Long After
Tumblr media
Debut: Enter: Naruto Uzumaki! (Episode 1 of Naruto)
TheThird Hokage was one of the strongest ninja in the Leaf Village, and the fact that he could fend off both the First and Second Hokage by himself is nothing short of extraordinary. However, by the time he shifted his attention to Orochimaru, his strength had been completely sapped.
With the Reaper Death Seal looming over him, Hiruzen decided to seal off Orochimaru's arms to take away his jutsu in one final act before passing away as he no longer had the strength to seal away all of his foe. It was a heartbreaking moment in Naruto that didn't matter all that much since Orochimaru took over another body and regained the use of his arms in no time anyway. All this sacrifice did in the end was delay Orochimaru's plans a little rather than put an end to them out right.
1.Deidara
Sacrificed Himself In An Explosion That Sasuke Escaped
Tumblr media
Debut: The Akatsuki Makes Its Move (Episode 2 of Naruto: Shippuden)
Deidara was a chaotic member of the Akatsuki who hated the Uchiha clan, which led to him trying to take on Sasuke in battle to prove his worth when the opportunity came up. However, he'd clearly bitten off more than he could chew, leading to him being outclassed by Sasuke with no hope of beating him in battle.
He had an ace up his sleeve when he transformed himself into a bomb that would've killed Sasuke with ease. However, the shinobi used his wits and summoned a massive snake, using its body as a shield to avoid any major damage and survive even after Deidara sacrificed himself. Perhaps it would have been a better plan to retreat and try again another day.

so you want to care about nohara rin
excellent choice really really good choice she's a fun character. despite (or perhaps because of) kishimoto's writing, there's a lot to her character that makes her very very interesting. i like her a normal amount personally.
here are the canonical character traits we know rin has from her appearances in the manga and the data books: she is a mildly talented but not prodigious mednin. she does not cry easily. she is kind, intellectual, and devoted. she collects shells. her favorite food is strawberries. her favorite word is friendship. she acts in a way that suggests she has a crush on kakashi and is generally friendly but distant with most people.
there are a couple of basic questions that we have to answer in order to create a compelling nohara rin characterization. IN-UNIVERSE okay i know that the answer to a lot of these is "bad writing" let's take a watsonian perspective here okay?
1- if she is a mednin of no outstanding talent, then how'd she manage to transplant a sharingan perfectly in the field?
2- why did she confess to kakashi when she did and in the manner that she did?
3 (most important)- why did she kill herself like that? why did she kill herself on kakashi, specifically? we know that the seal stopped her from slitting her own throat, yes, but it didn't stop her from jumping in front of someone's attack, and there were a lot of other people present (pretty much all of whom were trying to kill her!) who she could have used to kill herself. even MADARA is baffled by her decision making here. pleased, but baffled.
dubiously real questions to answer (take place in the war arc and it's either rin's ghost or obikaka hallucination doing this stuff)
4- why did she tell obikaka to kill themselves?
5- why did she tell obito that she though everything he did was cool and fine? (see: obito's afterlife as horror for my personal take on a dual-read)
these are the main questions that a complex rinterpretation needs to address. obviously, i'm biased towards the rin that i've put together over the past. oh god it's been two years. um. anyways. but addressing those questions from a rin-centric perspective can help you build a character who's really interesting!
pitfalls to avoid falling into: treating her as perfect. she is not "the mom friend" or "the braincell" or "normal." she wouldn't make anything better if she took kakashi or obito's place. the fact that kishimioto dehumanizes her by making her perfect doesn't mean that you have to as well!!!
ok under the cut i'll go a little bit more into some of the main characterization i use for rin/frameworks i like to play around with. my rinterpretation. if you will.
i like to cut rin in half. there is the canonical, symbolic non-person half of rin that exists only in memory and was never alive to begin with and the fucked-up miserable nohara rin that's a person no matter how much she insists otherwise. doing this allows me to lean into their respective identities and also make them aware of each other! which makes them worse! (see: um. this. i promise it actually makes sense in the context of my characterization.)
a couple of frameworks i use to reckon with the symbolic half of rin:
schrödinger's cat is a great way to understand why nohara rin exists as dead the entire time. basically, before the the box is opened, the cat exists in a superposition of being dead and alive at the same time. opening the box isn't what kills the cat, though. when the box is opened to show us that the cat is dead, reality is retroactively re-written and the cat ends up being dead the same time. now imagine that this is about a girl committing suicide instead of a cat and also you get to see the cat's dead body before you even know the box exists. that's nohara rin baby.
eye framework is based around the idea that closed eyes represent dishonesty and open eyes represent honesty. unfortunately, even when being honest nohara rin cannot be understood, and so we must be unable to see her eyes to understand her because you can only understand something that doesn't exist by not looking at it. elaboration here.
the important things to keep in mind about this half of rin is that she does not exist, and if she did, she would be full of nothing (as opposed to empty). also, this is the only nohara rin that anyone has ever known. also, she's a time machine.
nohara rin, the person, is defined by her two fundamental and conflicting desires which are to be known and to remain unknown. she lies so so much and is rotting from the inside out and she kills herself because she is miserable and she does it like that because she is spiteful <3. well actually it's a little more complicated than that but this is already getting long i'll just direct you over to my rinfic if you wanna see how i characterize her on a personal level.
