Hi so like a year or so ago(idk it was so long) a friend gave me this laptop, he had gotten him from an ex friends brother(whos name is still on the 'built for' plaque). Idk if he worked when my friend had recieved him, but i accepted him knowing full well he could be bricked ><

Well today i found some adapters for laptop cables, and i plugged him in and hes charging! He even was able to turn on and promptly tell me his battery was critically low >< so im gonna keep him plugged in for a while and see if i cant get him running! (I need a laptop, i have like 5 of them but 2 are for sure broken, one is factory resetting, the other is lost and ofc my alienware guy is charging ^^)

I have a bright blue asus laptop im trying to fix as well, her problem is that she is INCREDIBLY slow and a pain to work with, but im hoping maybe a factory reset will help? If not i can just retire her, but if she is my only working laptop i may use her anyway ><

wasnt enough for the integrated laptop keyboard to stop working most of the time (why i bought the external wireless keyboard last year) now it did actually short out, so when it does work only half of the keys do, and there's no easy way to say 'stop trying to get this keyboard to work', no no no, now its acting like one of the keys are pressed when it does....

siiigh. finally buying a replacement keyboard.

I should start using Photopea more often. I love that it let me upload my psd files to do screen edits and it also loaded the custom fonts (Valkyrie, Playflair display etc) that I used!

it's like a free Photoshop CS but on website.

What did Dell mean by this

So the brand whose name sounds embarrassingly like mine has revealed the design of its new Alienware laptops.

I don't typically care about this sort of thing, but there's one Big Funny™ under the cut for you, alongside images in general.

So, they look pretty alienware-y, right? Standard stuff:

And then you look at the bottom.

Wait, what's that there? Computer, enhance.

Dear god, that's glass. That's fucking GLASS.

Glass at the bottom of a laptop? Yeah, and apparently it's so that you "can see the components".

Except there are heatsinks on them.

And they're on the side of the laptop you don't see when you're using it.

And you can see the fans, meaning there's no direct intake path.

Meaning that this laptop has the revolutionary new feature of breaking regardless of whether it's placed right side up or upside down!

It's like watching a rat in a cage trying to learn how to design a machine, and you give them a lil treat every time they make something that doesn't catch fire.

Learn how to build a fucking computer, you guys. Come on.

I've done that once, but it was kinda glitchy lol. The video would play like normal until it hit an adspace on the seekbar then it would do 5 seconds of nothing but a black screen on the media player before resuming the vid. Granted it wasn't as annoying as having ads themselves, but it was still pretty annoying 😅

today i got locked out of watching youtube videos entirely on adblock grounds, so i did some tinkering.

ublock does not, in fact, seem to circumvent this, but i did find out something new through circumstance as well as trial and error:

bf told me two bits of information that turned out to be rather useful. 1) he hasn't really gotten the youtube adblock notifications much. 2) his work laptop blocks youtube cookies completely. (this annoys him a bit because a couple quality of life features function off cookies)

so when i was trying to troubleshoot how to wrangle youtube into letting me listen to music without constantly throwing intrusive as hell ads at me, i decided to block youtube cookies just to see what would happen.

well wouldn't you know, it has stopped complaining about ads being blocked entirely. for now anyway.

TL;DR: looks like youtube is using cookies to check for adblockers, so blocking them seems to cause it to leave you alone.
