Couple old sketches of some speculative lifeforms.

Truly alien life, or creatures that evolved in a distant alternate timeline of Earth? Could go either way.

I'm pretty sure there's a laws of physics reason that mobile organisms tend towards bilateral symmetry while radial symmetry (or non-symmetrical body-plans) is generally confined to stationary lifeforms, but I do like to design mobile organisms with more plant-like body plans and aspects, and imagining how such creatures evolve and function in their ecosystems.

You know what I want more of? Variety in aliens. No, I don’t mean more designs for alien species. I mean variety within a species. They always seem to have the same government, the same culture, the same religion, the same language. Come on, humans don’t work that way! 

“Say, there’s a Qualar over there. What are they saying?”

“No idea.”

“That’s a Kinzian Qualar. I’m a Surolian Qualar. You’d have just as much luck understanding them as I would. You’re lucky I even speak Human.”

the x files should’ve done a gag where at the end of the episode both mulder and scully are seen writing up their reports (aka thinly veiled excuses to wax philosophically) and both are doing their monologues at the same time so it overlaps and turns into nonsense and then it cuts to skinner at his desk with his head in his hands as he tries to cut through the bullshit and figure out how they actually wrapped up the case of the mysterious knife alien

Sonic ended up here when he promised Tails that he'd catch whatever's been making scratching noises in the attic. He thought it was a squirrel. He was wrong. He thought he could catch it. He was also wrong.

xenobiology of Vesta

I was overcome with the need to collect some of my favorite critters.

The creators of Scavengers Reign put so much effort into creating rich and varied ecosystems. To me it shines through that they were inspired by a deep knowledge and appreciation of the diversity of life on Earth. So here's a game: you pick any creature in this video, and I will tell you at least one Earth species I think it's based on!
