i think that there's something very delicious narratively speaking to see what physical intimacy between alicent and criston will look like. every touch will be a gesture of the heart in conflict with itself. every look of longing mixed with the shame of having finally it. whispering each other's names like dark confessions. to be on their knees for each other in the dead of night committing sins till dawn when they are on their knees again asking The Mother for repentance and absolution.
something very yummy 2 me about being your most sinful true self with one person in private and then acting courteous and ideal and perfect in the presence of others. maybe only real religious freaks would understand the intimacy in that joint duplicity and i see not everyone's seeing the vision but lemme just say i am very extremely infinitely seated

i'm conflicted.
as an alicole shipper i very much like the idea of alicent and criston reversing their moment in episode 5, literally acting out hamlet and ophelia in their "to be or not to be" moments.
Tumblr media
as a reader and a viewer, this is such a bullshit from narrative stand point. queen dowager just frolicking in the fields after smallfolk riots with no protection? alicent losing her mind after being smacked by a fish, but not after her oldest son being maimed or her grandson murdered?
Tumblr media
(i'm not gonna even go to those leaks that say she magically transports to dragonstone to have a bestie talk with rhaenyra or that she fucks off to oldtown. even if she wanted to leave her weird/mean sons behind, the fact that she abandons her people and especially her daughter and granddaughter (she'd literally leave them to wolves) to go on a roadtrip, is a character assassination.)

Hold on! About Alicole, I get you don’t dig it and find it anoying and hypocrite (it is this last) but don’t reduce the complex characters to “Rhaenyra is their world and they are so lost”
1. Alicent was not “mad at Rhaenyra just for banging Criston” she was upset bc she lied to her face about going out and exposing herself, and said she is still a “Lady”. She is angry cause her dad (her only ally in court) was sent away after her request even if the accusation were true (she was INDEED seen out in the Street of Silk w/ Daemon) She was hurt to see her son lose and eye an no one getting a consequense when she did, and her son did. Is not about “oh, you slept with Criston? I hate you”
2. Criston is not with Alicent bc Rhaenyra rejected him. He is with her bc she saved his life, she gave him an opoortunity, he stood ip for him when no one else did. He is truly loyal to her, is her closest person and has basically help her raise her children (Look at the kids interaction with Cole, like is that their dad or what?)
3. Criston doesn’t hate Rhaenyra bc she said no to running away and selling oranges. He is upset bc he realised she had no respect for him. This was breaking him in a million pieces and she was uncapable to see that, or to even try to see it.
Now, you may argue “is the same with alicent, he is now his whore” and sorry but no. Alicent is a widow, she is not cheating on anyone, she is not using him in private and desregarding him in public. Season 1 makes this very clear, he is her confident, he is the person she trusts, she lets her kids be close to him, they see each other at their worse and still stand by each other.
Didn’t u see the Council looks? They are a team. Also Fabien said “his heart is alway to alicent” so I believe their is love, and also Alan Taylor -the director- said this too “There is love from both sides there” Olivia said as well “Rhaenyra is not even s ghost in this relationship” They have moved past that Rhae + Criston, both of them, and are having their own thing. It is hypocrite, yes it is, and they are aware of it

you know what. alicent is a lesbian to me but if she’s gonna have a comphet relationship with criston then good for her. it’s not like she’s getting laid by a woman anytime soon and criston has always taken good care of her.

the fact that they probably set us up with alicole finally doing it,because if they are going at it while b&c is happening no one will be there to help Helaena and her kids…
I’ve seen this theory of them doing it while b&c is going on and can i be honest? This is such a lazy and disgusting idea that the writers had.Literally they could have played it in every single way to make sure that Helaena and her kids were alone in that moment with no one around to save them.Instead they had to put the blame on Alicent(again)because i can already see the comments of team black supporters blaming her instead of Daemon. This part really upset me,b&c is such a tragic event for everyone in the green team,a child is going to die and they had decided to let his granny bang grandaddy at the same time.Top tier writing here.

Fabien Frankel on Returning as Ser Criston in 'House of the Dragon'.
“In s1, Cole is pretty much a byproduct of everyone else’s storyline and in s2…he becomes a POV character. The audience gets a chance to see the world in his eyes, opposed to seeing it through Rhaenyra and Alicent’s eyes last season.”

Alicole banging at the start of season 2?
Am I dreaming? (If I am, don't wake me up.)
Jokes aside, I am reaaally happy about this. Our girl Alicent deserves some joy in her life, especially knowing what is about to happen.
Though I do pray that whatever goes on between them occurs after b&c, or at the very least, not during it.
The last thing I want to see is Ali being horrendously punished for thinking about herself for the first time. Also, you know, Alicole, Alicent and Criston antis would have a field day, hating on them for getting it on as Helaena and her kids suffered.
(As if their beloved blacks weren't responsible for this tragedy in the first place but whatever.)
We should also take into account the fact that Alicole acting on their feelings after b&c would add a lot more meaning to their relationship in general.
Two souls broken by grief, finding comfort in one another by completely forgetting about their duties and positions after years of repressing what they felt.
I'm all for it

He keeps it and misses her 😭
Tumblr media
it's somehow worse isn't it, when you realize that she gave him that handkerchief, she prayed for him, she wished luck to gwayne, she saw them leave (he went FOR HER) and then she told rhaenyra exactly where he and gwayne are and that would quite literally get them killed.
i'm gonna download this stupid ass episode when it comes out, i'm gonna finish the alicole video i have almost ready (from the better days ehm) and then i'm done. i'm so beyond done.

This show has made/will make Alicent go through every torment known to (wo)man:
Orphaned by her mother-- ✅
Grew up far away from home with a longing to belong-- ✅
Domineered and dictated by her father to the expense of her own interests-- ✅
Haunted by life-long catholic guilt as a response to trauma-- ✅
Dermatillomaniac-- ✅
Passed off as a child-bride-- ✅
Forced to dress in her mother's or Aemma's clothes to be desired by Viserys-- ✅
R*ped throughout her marriage-- ✅
Gave birth as a result of r*pe-- ✅  ✅  ✅  ✅
Betrayed by her best friend-- ✅
SA'd by Larys-- ✅
Threatened by and lived in fear because of Larys-- ✅
Forced to accept her son's maiming with no justice served-- ✅
Obliged to nurse a living corpse-- ✅
Left to deal with Viserys' mess regarding the succession-- ✅
Used as a pawn by the Greens-- ✅
Sidelined, discarded, and disregarded by the Greens-- pending
Watched her children and grandchildren suffer and die-- pending
And now the show wants to make the only joy they eventually give her, a consensual relationship with a man she trusts and apparently loves, another source of anguish, pain, guilt, self-disgust, and misery, by pairing it with the most horrendous of tragedies that befall her family.
Honestly, dracarys on the producers and the writers if to further victimize, wh!re-ify, and capitalize on the exploitation of Alicent's suffering they make her have sex with Criston during Blood & Cheese.

We all know that scene from Otto screaming to Aegon and Criston standing behind him, right? Aegon is two seconds away from telling Otto « thank u next » and give it all to Cole

What is your opinion regarding the leaks of B&C ?
From what I’ve read, it’s going to be extremely different from the book version. No Maelor and no Sophie’s choice, Haelena doesn’t offer her life but offers some necklace and then leaves the room whith her daughter, leaving her son alone with two assassins (so technically, she doesn’t see B&C beheading Jaehaerys), the main target of B&C is Aemond instead of Helaena’s sons. Ultimately, Condal tones it down to the ground.
If all this is true--Horrible. They siphoned much of the emotional weight & horror of that moment by not doing, as you say, the Sophie's choice thing. A kid's death, esp murder, is always terrible and horrific. What made this particular moment so unique and its character of "horrifying" was that Sophie's choice where Helaena is forced into--somehow, someway--value one child's life over the other or risk ALL her kids' lives. What should be an impossible choice becomes very possible. What is taboo, Helaena is forced to be complicit in one of her own's kids' murders (we have to imagine these kids, too, as they look to her for safety in fear, perhaps crying their eyes out or maybe quiet & hoping...). It transforms from one taboo act into another, arguably more viscerally disturbing one: filicide (murder of one's own child) & particularly the filicide of an actual child. (Yes, I know that B&C likely always planned to make her choose, but we the readers AND she didn't...it was supposed to be a twist. Unless you read AWoIaF, which still doesn't include the raw details & dialouge F&B does.)
Yes it was not willful murder on Helaena's part, but again, any loving parent who was told to choose or suffer terrible consequences to another child with no way of knowing how to get out of of said situation/no defense/no strategy, and they decide they have to choose...only for the murders to traumatize the already fear ridden chosen child by making it a point to them their mom was fine with their death for another child even for a second and that she chose...It's maddening. Of course Helaena went mad. Even with her being coerced, she would have to learn how to reconcile with the fact that she made that choice AND thus she would feel she was an actor in her kid's death! And she just couldn't.
The guilt and fear, her already being so young when she had the twins and basically not having that much support from Aegon (yes I know she's a princess and would have servants and nurses take a lot of the care, but the fact your husband can and is doing fuck-all--can't even be bothered to really stay around his kids--presents its own sort of "mental load" on her and most noble women). In terms of how she'd be able to pull herself together, there was a lot was stacked against her and the ability to do that.
Helaena is already a nonperson in HotD, the show fails to actually make her interesting with how they used her dragon "dreams" that are not dreams. In the orig story, sorry to say, this moment was also one of her only distinctive moments. And if it is true that she runs and finds Alicole fucking, she is sharing that already limited reality/space/importance/personal action to a the woman they still don't really know what to do with. Helaena, to me, seems as if she's automatically is either/both not characterized but a device to characterize Alicent & Cole AND loses more of the very little subjecthood she had both in book and show--again, bc that choice she makes is a CHOICE. As much under pressure as it was. A choice that determined how her and the surviving kids lives would look like when faced with those such as Blood & Cheese.
Yes, I don't really "cry" that much over Helaena, but it is more than obvious that she and her kids were totally innocent . Those with the least agency allowed or available to them. Why remove what little there was or take away some of that valence for a tawdry sex-interruption scene/trope that could have been anytime else? (Again, if Alicole fucking at this time exists in the season.)
It seems the writers really don't like their characters making plot-forward or character-affective choices (a few critics, some fans. and I've said this for some time now).

Sooooo... Aemond is funny in season 2's episode 1? And not just funny, but "FUNNY AF" apparently 😭 Like seriously, what is he even joking about? Except for the fact when he goes up to Cole and reveals that the woman he's been sleeping with is actually in love with their enemy 💀
On second thought, forget what I said before. He is absolutely hysterical 🤣
