A little hateration, a little holleration:

BABYGIRL (2024): Confused, half-baked A24 drama — which plays like a thriller, but isn't — about a middle-aged tech executive (Nicole Kidman) whose frustration with her horny but sexually incompatible husband (Antonio Banderas, settling comfortably into his silver fox years) leads her to an ill-advised BDSM relationship with her 20something intern (Harris Dickinson), who has intuited what she wants and is prepared to give it to her. As in the dreadful 2018 cop drama DESTROYER, Kidman brings a visceral intensity to her mostly unsympathetic role, but neither of the main characters' motivations ever make much sense, and their chemistry is nonexistent. The film also can't decide if it wants to be about infidelity, BDSM (of which writer-director Halina Reijn's understanding seems very limited), or sexual harassment, and its ambivalence means the story goes nowhere. CONTAINS LESBIANS? The protagonist has a lesbian daughter (played by Esther-Rose McGregor) who's cheating on her girlfriend. VERDICT: If any part of the premise sounds interesting, just watch SECRETARY.

VAMPS (2012): Adorable Amy Heckerling vampire comedy about undead roommates Goody (Alicia Silverstone) and Stacy (Krysten Ritter), both turned by the same eccentric older vampire (Sigourney Weaver, camping it up with evident relish) and both now working in pest control (so they can feed on rats instead of humans) while they pretend to be college students. Their cozy routine is disrupted when Stacy falls for the son (Dan Stevens) of a notorious vampire hunter (Wallace Shawn, hilarious) and Goody runs into a former boyfriend from the '60s (Richard Lewis, underutilized), who had no idea she was a vampire. Certain story threads feel undercooked, a pregnancy subplot seems out of place, and I could have done without Justin Kirk as a sleazy Ukrainian vampire, but Ritter and Silverstone are delightful, and Heckerling and Silverstone remain an inspired team. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Sadly no. VERDICT: Thanks to WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, this is now well-trodden ground, but it's still great fun, and a must for fans of CLUELESS.

Guys ik Spica said that Post Memory and Silver thread isn’t in the same universe but do you think it’s gonna be funny if Alicia and Beaford randomly got murdered out of nowhere, went to Post memory town (I can’t remember how to spell it) and the two have to solve a crime in order to go back to the living. This would make a fire game if the player knew about post memory AND Silver thread 😭
