10 of the Saddest TV Deaths

Okay so I decided to make a list of the some of the saddest deaths of TV characters from some of my favorite shows because I'm bored and have nothing better to do with my time.  As with most people on Tumblr, when I watch a show, I get emotionally attached to the characters on the show, which just proves that the writers are doing something right because if I don't get emotionally attached then the show is no good to me. So here's the list, in no particular order, of some of the saddest TV characters deaths from some of my favorite shows.

1. Alex Whitman -- Roswell

When I mention this show most people have no idea what I'm talking about so if you don't, Roswell was a show about teenage aliens that was created in the late 90's, early 2000's.  It was only three seasons long and the third season was rushed because they didn't get approved for a fourth, but the main characters that are followed are three aliens, Michael, Max, and Isabel, and in the first two seasons three humans, Liz, Maria, and then Alex.  Now there was a fourth alien, Tess, and out of greed and self-preservation she kills Alex which was already sad enough but what made it even worse was during the funeral, Maria's rendition of Amazing Grace, and then the fact that Isabel kept seeing him, I seriously cried for hours.

2.  Joyce Summers -- Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I think hers was just really unexpected for me even though I knew it was going to happen.  Joyce was just so awesome and the way everybody handled her death was just really sad but I think the worst reaction was Anya's because she just didn't understand what it really meant to be human.

3.  Prue Halliwell -- Charmed

Okay, so Prue certainly was not my favorite character, as a matter of fact I didn't like her much at all, however, her death was still horribly sad nonetheless.  This show was really good for really sad deaths.  In this case, I think the worst part was Piper's reaction, it just made it so much worse.

4.  Vincent Nigel-Murray -- Bones

Although he was never a major character, he was definitely my favorite of the interns prior to his death.  I know I was afraid, hearing the preview the week before, that it was going to be one of the major characters death which would have been horrible but this was harder then I thought.  The scene where he's dying is horribly tragic, where he begs not to go because he wants to stay and work for the Jeffersonian.

5.  Jeremy Gilbert -- The Vampire Diaries

This one just happened and I still can't get over it.  I should stop having favorite characters on that show because every time I have a favorite character, they die.  I was in denial for the entire week after the episode where he was actually killed and then during the entire episode after his death, and I kept thinking he can't really be dead, he'll get brought back somehow and then Elena burnt the house down, and I realized he wasn't coming back.  Even if something happens with Bonnie and she does bring him back, his death was still horribly tragic.

6.  John Winchester -- Supernatural

So I'm way behind on Supernatural, like a few seasons, behind but nevertheless, it is still one of my favorite shows.  I was so upset when John died, he had become one of my favorite characters and the fact that he loved his wife so much that he couldn't live without finding and killing the creature that murdered her was so amazingly beautiful and dedicated.

7.  Tara Maclay -- Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I know I already did one from Buffy but seriously anyone who doesn't say Tara's death was horribly sad is heartless.  Whether your gay, straight, bi, whatever, I think everyone wants a relationship like Tara's and Willow's and the fact that Tara died right after her and Willow finally made up was just devastating.  I cried for days, and every time I watch Once More, With Feeling, the episode where everybody sings and dances, I cry.  I just couldn't, this one was too sad for me.

8.  Dale Horvath -- The Walking Dead

I don't care what anyone says, Dale was a badass motherfucker and I was so sad when he died.  I think what was bad though was the sort of lack of emotion from the other characters, like it was sad for five seconds and then that was it.

9.  Marvin Eriksen Sr. -- How I Met Your Mother

So this one probably seems out of place compared to the other ones, but I am obsessed with How I Met Your Mother.  I cried so much in the episodes surrounding Marvin's death.  It really kind of hit home for me, not from my own father but from my grandfather who died rather young and very unexpectedly.  The voicemail he left Marshall right before he died was probably the cutest thing ever though.

and 10.  Charlie Pace -- Lost

I really had a love-hate relationship with this show but one of the characters I did love was Charlie and I was so sad when he died (yes, I know in a way they brought him back, but his death was still sad).  The fact that he spent his last moments trying to save everybody was just so sad and then Hurley's visions of him made things worse.
