@crueltimes | Javier and Ali Navarro, Whispering Pines [Supernatural Verse]
Javier couldn't remember how long it had been now. Since that night. Since everything went to absolute hell. For a time he'd thought that maybe it was just a nightmare that would never end. Vampires weren't real. They were mythical creatures made up to scare children...or something. They weren't real. Not possible.
And yet time had passed, years now since that horrible night, and he was living still. Or. Existing. Whatever it was he was doing without a heart that beat, without food to sustain. Here he was, anxiously walking down the streets of Whispering Pines which was supposed to be some sort of safe haven.
But how could anyone be safe when all he could hear was the beating of all the hearts around him, the blood pumping in veins? Maybe it was the wrong decision, maybe he shouldn't have come here. It wasn't safe. It couldn't possibly be safe - not for anyone else, anyway.
He couldn't be here. He couldn't. He shouldn't. No, he needed to get out of here. This was a mistake.
He turned on his heel, intending to walk right back out of this place, to go back into hiding and avoid the reality of this curse that had been laid upon him. And there she stood. Javi stumbled a step or two back, looking her over. How? Why -?
All he could think about was the blood he could practically see pulsing beneath the soft skin of her throat.
"What are you...what are you doing here?"

Emma Raducanu's gallant run in the Miami Open ended with a tough quarter-final battle against fourth-ranked world Jessica Pegula. The 22-year-old British sensation displayed exceptional grit, even needing medical help towards the end of the second set, but eventually succumbed as Pegula asserted her dominance to claim a 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2 win. Raducanu produced some of her best tennis since her miraculous 2021 US Open victory, especially in the second set. With a dominant 5-2 advantage and four set points to her name, she appeared on the brink of forcing a tie. But she quickly summoned medical attention, having her blood pressure taken and applying ice towels to cool down before returning to the court. Her effort to fight back and take the second set indicated her grit and determination. Nevertheless, Pegula, who has been one of the most reliable players on the WTA Tour, was too much in the last set with clinical accuracy. 350z33, CC BY-SA 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0, via Wikimedia Commons "It was hard," declared Pegula, who became the US Open runner-up. "I just needed to come out in the third set really aggressively, really quick, and attack her." With this win, the 31-year-old American makes it to the semi-finals, where she will play 19-year-old Philippine Alexandra Eala. Eala continued her impressive streak by shocking five-time grand slam champion Iga Swiatek in a stunning upset in the tournament. Raducanu Proves She Belongs Among the Best Since her New York breakthrough over three years ago, Raducanu has been subjected to constant questioning about her physical and mental stamina. It has not been easy to adjust to life on the professional circuit, with injuries and increased pressure compounding her difficulties. This season has already brought its fair share of disappointments, including a back injury, the loss of her coach Nick Cavaday, and a disturbing run-in with a stalker. But her Miami performance was a stark reminder of her talent and grit. In spite of the defeat, Raducanu recorded strong victories against top-20 players Emma Navarro and Amanda Anisimova, reaching her maiden quarter-final at a WTA 1000 tournament. She will also pride herself on re-entering the top 50 of the WTA rankings next week. Winning four in a row at one tournament—something she hadn't accomplished since her US Open victory—is another sign of improvement. With the European clay-court season approaching, she will look to carry this momentum forward and establish the consistency required to play at the highest level. A Fierce Fight Against Pegula Raducanu looked more assured in Miami, opting for a calm style that enabled her to play with more freedom. Before the event, she decided against pursuing her trial partnership with Slovak coach Vladimir Platenik and instead stuck with a close-knit team of familiar names. Mark Petchey, who coached her as a teenager, took up position alongside long-time mentor Jane O'Donoghue and fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura to offer advice. This support system enabled Raducanu to remain "authentic" and "express" herself on the court, which was seen during her game against Pegula. Her tidy ball-striking and crisp movement kept her in touch with the American's steady, mistake-free baseline game. One break of serve in the first set was ultimately to be decisive, but Raducanu was encouraged by the standard of her game. Changing her tactics in the second set, she played more positively and it paid dividends. A key early break enabled her to take charge, albeit as dizziness and tiredness started to catch up, necessitating a medical timeout. Despite the setback, she displayed remarkable grit to hold serve for 6-5 before producing a brilliant tie-break to force a deciding set. However, Pegula’s experience and consistency ultimately proved too much, as she secured victory in the final stretch. Raducanu’s performance in Miami signals significant progress. If she continues on this path, she has every chance of competing with the world’s best on a consistent basis. Read the full article

Levi: Cody Christen, Barry Keoghan, Dacre Montgomery, Austin Bulter, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet, UTP
CONNECTION DESCRIPTION:
TW: child neglect, substance abuse, OD. dysfunction.
The Navarros' are the Gallaghers from Shameless. The kids basically raised themselves.
They all were born and grew up in South Hills.
These kids learned survivors instincts from the get, and they raised hell for just as long. The oldest daughter was the head of the family, she is the one who took over most of the care. Ryat is the second oldest, and he also took a big part in raising these kids.
A lot of the background of the siblings is UTP. What they're doing. Rather or not they made it out of South Hills, or if theyve been to prison. If their lives are together, or if they still figuring shit out.
THE TWO THINGS THAT ARE SET IN STONE, HOWEVER: The second oldest daughter, Abigail, did get pregnant with she was a teenager. She currently had a teenage son who's around 14, and named Noah at this moment. How she does as a parent, etc etc is UTP. The other thing is that there are 7 NAVARRO SIBLINGS. There is also a 17 year old named Maddison, who at the very least, still lives at the Navarro family home.
BIRTH ORDER FOR THE NAVARROS SIBLINGS GOES AS SUCH:
Michaela (38-40)
Ryat (36)
Alexander (31-34)
Abigail (31-34)
Atlas (29-30)
Levi (26-28)
Maddison (17)
------
Their parents are Richard and Kelly Navarro. Kelly would spend some time in prison and when she came out, she'd link back up with her no good husband, and the birth of the last Navarro child came nine months later.
Kelly would overdose when Maddi was 1, while Ryat held her.
Their father, Richard, nicknamed Dick, by most of the kids, is still in the picture. He like a cockroach that won't die, and he is often found bumming around the Navarro house.
This family is BIG dysfunctional. They didn't grow up with good parents, and usually had to fight their way through life. But the one thing they are is close. Ryat loves all his siblings, and growing up, they really only even had each other. This, of course, doesn't mean they don't go rounds with each other...

@kiplingwriter
He couldn’t remember the last time he’d slept properly. Sleeping left him vulnerable, left him unaware of his surroundings, of who might be flitting in or out of the place.
What if they caught up? What if they found them again, dragged them back into that hell to pay for their sins ten times over?
What if Ali gave up on him? Decided to up and leave without a word? He wouldn’t blame her, not really; He didn’t deserve her, she had every right to hate him ... But the idea of her going out there again on her own, of choosing that over being here with him...
Despite the exhaustion that had been seeping into his bones, he couldn’t seem to let sleep take him. Instead he’d wandered out to the makeshift maintenance garage where they had begun collecting a random assortment of things - electronics that might be able to be put back to use, a couple cars they’d managed to haul to their little safe haven that Javi had been tinkering with, hoping to get back into proper working order...Maybe he could get something done there, at least make himself useful if he couldn’t sleep.
How he’d ended up sprawled on a couch slid into the back of the shop, he wasn’t too sure, but maybe it was a good thing, finally getting an hour or two of sleep. If he was lucky.

@crueltimes | Javi & Ali
The weather had blown in quickly. It seemed as if one moment the sky was clear and the next it had darkened, angry clouds billowing overhead. Much more concerning were the winds that started kicking up and the rains that soon followed, a deluge that created puddles that rapidly turned to rivulets running throughout their small development.
Javier sloshed through the puddles as he ran, head ducked away from the pelting rain and wind that tore at his clothes and hair. The rain and muck he kicked up was hardly a concern though - there was just one person at the forefront of his mind. As always, really.
“Ali!” He called her name even before he’d reached the makeshift medical center, one of the places he imagined he’d find her lingering even in the middle of this storm. She’d say she needed to make sure her patients were okay - though frankly, Javi wasn’t even sure there was anyone staying in the center currently...And if they were, he’d rather them be left on their own and Ali safe if he had a say in the matter.
Tumblr media
He called her name once more as he pushed through the door, head swinging this way and that to search for her familiar face in the darkened rooms. “Ali - are you here? Tell me you’re here,” He called, his voice pitched with fear. “Please fucking be here...” he muttered, more so to himself as he moved down the nearest hall.

Who: closed ! @alexandranavarro When: sometime shortly after they first encountered each other in fairvale Where: common grounds
Javier had never been that obsessed with coffee in the past. He appreciated a cup in the morning to help wake him up, he’d stop by a café now and again for a pick me up if the opportunity arose. But after the outbreak...he admittedly hadn’t expected to see a cup of it again. Without access to electricity or the proper means to brew a cup - let alone the grounds to do so - it had simply seemed like it would fall among the many things of the past they’d all once taken for granted.
But in Fairvale, so much of that was within reach again.
It seemed almost silly as he stood at the counter, looking at the menu with a skeptical expression on his face. It was hard to think about the fact that there were people out beyond the walls fighting for their lives and yet here he was in some sort of alternate reality considering buying a cup of coffee. The memories that plagued him of that world outside seemed so disconnected from this place - and what had once been before it.
Maybe this was all some fever dream and he’d wake up back in that hellhole once more, kicking himself for ever letting him believe this could be reality.
Then again, Fairvale wasn’t perfect by any means, either - and proof of that stepped through the doors just as he was about to leave. Of course he was happy to see her, to know that she was alive, but...this Ali wasn’t his - he’d lost that honor too long ago. And the way she was looking at him...?
Tumblr media
There was a moment of hesitation where he had no idea what he could possibly say to her, or what she might say to him - but he also wasn’t willing to let her walk away quite so quickly this time, either. So he spoke up with the first thing on his tongue. “I never would’ve thought I’d miss being able to have a cup of coffee.”
