Ice dance coaches's sun/moon signs:
Every last IAM and MIDA coach has an earth or water sign for sun or moon if not both. earth is stable and solidifying, solid water= ice it's so literal 😅
IAM coaches: Marie-France - Leo sun/Taurus moon Patrice - Sagittarius/Virgo Romain - Cancer/Pisces Pascal - Taurus/Virgo or Libra moon Josee - Cancer/Cancer or Leo Benjamin - Libra/Cancer
IAMO coaches: Scott - Virgo/Sag Adrian - Virgo/Leo or Virgo Madi - Pisces/Cancer Cara - Pisces/Pisces Sheri - Virgo/Taurus Justin - Taurus/Cancer Alma - Capricorn/Cancer
MIDA coaches: Charlie - Scorpio/Scorpio Tanith - Cancer/Sag or Capricorn Greg - Scorpio/Taurus
a large percentage of male ice dancers have earth sign sun or moon, and coaches are mostly former skaters, so that could be related
when we look at other schools, it's not 100% - there are exceptions, but still - in a list of 23 coaches, only 1 definitely doesn't fit the pattern.
Igor Shpilband - Cancer/Virgo or Libra Pasquale Camerlengo - Aries/Aquarius Anjelica Krylova - Cancer/Virgo (slight chance of Leo) Barbara Fusar-Poli - Aquarius/Scorpio (slight chance of Libra, but, Scorpio seems to fit her so much) Marina Zueva - Aries/Pisces or Aries (i always think of her as a double Aries, but there is a chance she's a Pisces moon) Massimo Scali - Sagittarius/Virgo Luca Lanotte - Leo/Capricorn

i didn't know the gold medal ice dance FD [by Tatiana Navka (who was married to Alexander Zhulin at the time) and Roman Kostomarov of Russia] in Torino 2006 Olympics was skated to Carmen
really interesting to watch back to back with VM's Carmen
ice dance was pretty different back in 2006 - it evolved soon after this so that lifts became much more acrobatic and involved more changes of position. it's surprising to see how little this team looks at each other, how connection is barely a factor in their performance. compared to now, there's much more emphasis on steps, blades on the ice. scoring was less inflated - they won a gold medal with PCS in skating skills like 8.0! GOE's of 0. unthinkable now lol
i don't mean to center everything back to VM, but the difficulty, the musicality, the brilliant choreo, their intensity and chemistry in their Carmen - they were robbed

Alexander Zhulin is really out there saying that the Eteri girls are getting edge calls because judges are afraid of them, that quads being banned in the ladies’ SP is an attack against Russian skaters, and then somehow reaching the conclusion that “It'd be nice if Russians could also take part in history being made. For example, Asians could be banned from single skating. Or something similar. Would be interesting.”
🤮🤮🤮
Nothing like the smell of fresh racism in the morning. I’m honestly speechless.

“After Zhulin’s disgusting remark about how the age limit for ladies should be raised “because we men need something to look at”, I have decided that literally nothing he says matters, ‘expert’ status be damned.“

Zhulin
It was in Tass.
Alexander Zhulin, the coach of the Russian dance duo skaters Ekaterina Bobrova / Soloviev Dmitry thanked Olympic champions of 2014 in Sochi Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the decision not to renew his career. This Zhulin told Tass.
On Wednesday, the athletes told broadcaster NBC, the decision about retirement is accepted, even though they do not experience the joy on this occasion.
“I want to say thanks to the guys and give them a huge hello - they gave us a chance at the Games in Pyeongchang - Zhulin said -. God bless them.”

Every other day there's a new bigoted and/or horrific quote from Alexander Zhulin. Today, though, he inadvertently came up with a great idea -
“Let Cizeron team up with Scott Moir. I think they'll be a good match. And let Cizeron&Moir compete against Papadakis&Hubbell.”
The reason he said this is vile. But I'd love to see Scott and Gui skate - getting to see them create and skate competitive programs would be amazing. Nobody who watches modern dance would be fazed in the least about any two people dancing together, why should skating be different -
I always loved this video of Scott taking a yoga/dance class with Liam Firus in Montreal in 2017:
the choreography in the group numbers at RTR had M/M and F/F pairings - they were beautiful.
Zhulin just sounds backwards and hateful.
Skate Canada already has younger kids, girls especially, teaming up and skating together-- some of their recent posts show these teams on the podium and on the ice- like how many more kids are going to learn to skate in partnership because they have the opportunity now to skate with any friend they like?

Timothy, sorry in advance for these questions, but I have to ask. Can you tell us about your nonbinarity? How did you come to your sense of self?
Timothy: “So that’s a really good question! You know, I think this process has been going on all my life. I tried to understand myself and be honest with myself, admit to myself who I am. From childhood, we are taught not to take some steps, or, on the contrary, to do something in order to achieve a result and at the same time remain safe. But since childhood, I clearly decided for myself what I need to do.
I think around the age of 20 I began to understand a little more about myself. And among the same queer people, I finally felt that I had found my place. Remarkable queer people helped me to realize who I am. They inspired me by their example, and I’m glad that now I can do the same for others.”
Have you faced criticism in your country?
Timothy: “I think a lot of people with diverse sexual orientation and gender identities, including queer people, face criticism to some extent. In this age of social media and mass media, you can be a man or a woman, and that’s it. And everyone is trying to fit only into these two categories. So, yes, there will always be criticism. But I would like to appeal to all people who face criticism and pressure – do not let it broke you. Be yourself. You deserve your place in this world just like everyone else.
Look at me and Ashley – we went through the same thing. We’ve been criticized countless times, both of us have been told many times, “No, this sport doesn’t need you.” And here we are. Two-time US champions, participants of the Olympic Games. And we carry it in ourselves, show the world what makes us unique. I hope this will inspire people who have been in similar situations.”
At the same time, in Russia you are very actively criticized.
Timothy: “You know, it seems to me that in Russia, in the USA, in other countries, there is criticism everywhere. But my message to queer people in Russia, in my country, and the rest of the world is that you deserve your place in the world. You shouldn’t be ashamed of what makes you special. Be proud of it!”
Have you seen Alexander Zhulin’s comments about you? Do you want to answer to this?
Timothy: “You know, I would not like to answer specifically to this opinion. I would like to convey to people like me that we are all special. I hope Ashley and I are an inspiring example for everyone. As for this comment specifically… It doesn’t matter to me. I will answer this way – try to take my joy away. I’m here now, with my wonderful partner, skating on the Olympic ice. Just try to take my joy away if you can.”
Can I say I freaking LOVE Tim LeDuc? They are amazing.

The minimum age for figure skaters competing in high-level international competitions will be raised following a vote by the sport's governing body on Tuesday.
Figure skaters will ultimately have to be at least 17 years old to compete in international events. The limit will be phased in, allowing 16-year-old skaters to compete in the 2023-24 season.
Before this decision, skaters as young as 15 were allowed to compete.
The decision was passed 110-16 in a vote by the International Skating Union in Phuket, Thailand.
The issue came to a head following controversy surround the participation of Russian national champion, Kamila Valieva, at the Beijing Olympic Games earlier this year.
Valieva — who was allowed to compete despite failing a drug test — faced enormous pressure and scrutiny over her participation. She was a favorite to win the individual event after helping secure gold in the group event, but stumbled several times during her routine. She was then openly criticized by her coach Eteri Tutberidze in a tearful encounter.
However the issue of ever-younger competitors and medalists has long accompanied a sport where the additional agility of youth has become fundamentally important. All six individual male and female medalists in Beijing were 24 or younger, three of them were teenagers.
"This is a very important decision," ISU president Jan Dijkema said. "I would say a very historic decision."
Young skaters face health risks
The ISU proposed the new limit, citing risks of "burnout, disordered eating, and long-term consequences of injury" for young skaters.
The governing body said it had "a duty of care to protect the physical and psychological health and safety of all athletes including elite adolescent athlete[s]."
A medical report written for the ISU said the new limit would allow young skaters to reach skeletal maturity before competing, and that young athletes faced a puberty delay of two years on average.
"They have the right to develop themselves as people during their adolescent age... They don't need us to be forcing them to compete," said Dr Jane Moran from the body's medical commission.
Russian commentators said the decision was aimed at hurting Russia's medal chances.
Former Russian skating star Alexander Zhulin, now a coach, told TASS news agency: "The decision is mainly directed against us."
"It is obvious to everyone that at 15-16 years old our girls cannot be beaten. Everyone is against us now so this decision was not surprising."
Former coach turned media personality Tatiana Tarassova told TASS: "We will win anyway."
Smaller nations said it would reduce their chances of winning, but other smaller skating nations including Iceland and Ireland defended the decision, saying the focus should be on protecting youngsters.
"We have to remember they are children first and athletes second," Ireland's representative in Phuket said.
The next Winter Olympics is in Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy in 2026.
