untitled. || ljn
in which you and lee jeno were definitely friends but you were also definitely more than just friends. frankly, your friend group has had enough of the not so subtle flirting and unbearable tension.
word count: 1.4k
genre, warnings: fluff, slice of life, college!au, friends to lovers, idiots to lovers, mutual pining, profanity, mentions of heartbreak, mentions of alcohol consumption, suggestive themes but nothing 18+ happens they just make out, mentions of minor car crash
bgm: message in a bottle by taylor swift, 1 2 365 4 me by kennen, oh shit...are we in love? by valley
a/n: something small so i can get over movie jeno. bro was glorious. i've also listed some songs i listened to while writing and i think listening while reading would be a vibe - lmk how you guys feel about it!
It was a cozy Friday evening. The rain was pelting against the glass windows and you could faintly hear the shouts of your fellow students below as they hurried back to their dormitories. The candle light flickers and shadows dance along the walls. Jeno had his head on your shoulder, faintly humming along to whatever was playing on his Alexa. You were sat on his bed in one of his varsity hoodies, scrolling through social media in a desperate attempt to keep up with your acquaintances' lives.
"Wait, Dejun broke up?!"
Jeno perks up at your small exclamation, craning his neck to peek at your screen.
"How can you tell?"
"He deleted all his posts with them and is listening to glimpse of us. What a shame, I was rooting for them."
"You and your personal celebrity couples." Jeno teases, jokingly shaking his head. "Who's next?"
"Maybe if Mark grows a pair and asks his lab partner out they could be next." You snort, leaning so your head was against Jeno's.
Enjoying quality time with your friend was one of your favorite ways to spend any free time you had amongst your chaotic schedule. Between due dates and classes, you and Jeno always managed to make time for each other. Although, most times just involved one of you showing up at the other's door without prior notice.
"Jeno, have you seen my jacket anywhere? The blue denim one?" Jaemin, Jeno's roommate and self proclaimed best friend asks, opening the bedroom door without knocking. The rest of your friend group insisted on still going out for drinks, even though its raining cats and dogs outside.
"Hn, no?" You feel a weight come off your shoulders as Jeno raises his head to address the question. "Wouldn't it be in your stinky pile of laundry?"
"Hey, I did my laundry yesterday, it's not stinky." Jaemin sticks his tongue out. "Y/n, if you see it in Jeno's closet let me know okay? I swear he steals my clothes."
"Roger that."
Jaemin nods happily, closing the door before Jeno manages to land a pillow throw. As Jeno returns to his place on your shoulder you hear the rest of your friends through the thin walls.
"Did you find your jacket?"
"No. But I did find Jeno and y/n snuggling against each other."
"We should start charging y/n rent."
"Isn't our rent included in tuition though?"
"Wasn't it a separate payment?"
You choose to ignore the conversation as the boys start to argue about dormitory rent. A calm vibration comes from your shoulder and your heart skips a beat from the proximity.
"For your information, Jaemin steals my clothes."
"Whatever you say, champ."
Chenle holds in a laugh as the group bid goodbye to you and Jeno. Upon reaching the ground floor, he allowed himself to finally let it out.
The six boys didn't leave the two of you alone without purpose. They all knew about your little crush on each other. It was so blatantly obvious. The way Jeno constantly checked his phone for updates when you had gone out with an old friend, the way he paces around the common area when he expects you to come over, and, not to mention, the untitled song he wrote for you.
It was all amusing to them. How could he miss the way you looked at him with hearts in your eyes, the way you would happily spend all night in the library with him when he had an assignment due, the way your arm always found its way around his.
"They really are idiots." Jaemin had said, a fond grin on his face.
Really, it was cute, but got frustrating. Slow burn and mutual pining were never Donghyuck's favorite tropes. Watching you hide your embarrassment as Jeno fixes your hair made him want to push the two of you in a closet and scream for you guys to just kiss already.
So in order to prevent Donghyuck from committing a crime against romance, Renjun simply suggested that they give the couple more "alone time". Which leads the boys to this situation on a Friday night, heading to the pub in the rain.
"They better be dating by the time we're back." Donghyuck mutters, attempting to stay dry under Mark's hazardous umbrella holding.
"What do you even call their relationship right now?" Jisung voices over the rain, "not friends, obviously."
"A situationship?"
"No. That's what Yangyang had a while back. Remember how toxic it was?"
"Friends with benefits?"
"Chenle... Do you know what that is?"
"Guys, just leave it untitled for now. They're going to be dating soon anyway."
Jeno met you on the first day of classes. You had turned up ten minutes late, breathing heavily as you stumbled into the free seat in the last row. The seat next to him. Red in the face from running and hair messy from the wind, you looked so loveable to him. Never would he have imagined that you would be by his side like you were now. Though regretfully, as a friend. He wasn't sure how you'd react if he told you he wanted to be more.
You had your head in his lap, phone forgotten as you rambled to him about how stupid Yangyang's situationship partner was. He gently raked his fingers through your hair, reacting accordingly to your story, gaze never leaving your face.
A guitar melody meets the end of the last song and a familiar voice sounds through the room. Your story stops abruptly and confusion dons Jeno's features before he realizes what's playing through the speakers.
"No, wait, don't listen to this! Close your ears."
"I can't physically do that! And why can't I listen? You're singing! Did you write this song?"
As Jeno frantically attempts to scramble to stop the song, you wrap you arms around his torso, pulling him back on the bed. To prevent him from moving, you lie on top of him. Jeno can feel your laughs through his own body and he wonders whether you could feel his heartbeat through yours. With his strength, he could push you off and turn the song off if he really wanted to. But when it comes to you, he strength somehow never works.
"Jeno, this song is so cute. Who's it about?" You smirk down at him, "you have a crush on someone?"
You weren't asking because you were purely curious. You were asking because you had a big fat crush on the man and needed to know if he liked someone else. Though, you didn't know if you were ready for the answer. You've heard the heartbreak horror stories. They were always worse when the couple weren't dating but you couldn't help it. Somewhere along the line, you had fallen, and by that time, a platonic relationship had been established. Somehow, you convinced yourself that you'd rather stay friends than potentially losing what the two of you already had.
The rest of the friend group knew. You knew they knew. Hiding your feelings weren't your strongest point and you definitely caught Chenle making kissy faces behind you and Jeno once.
So, to say you were nervous about his answer was an understatement. But you weren't about to let him know.
"Isn't it obvious?"
Huh?
Jeno turns his head away, avoiding eye contact. A redness creeps up his cheeks and his throat feels dry.
"It's about you."
The cat's out of the bag. Jeno wants to scream in embarrassment. He can't believe he leaked his own embarrassing song about you. He can't believe this is how you find out about his feelings.
"Oh." A matching redness creeps up your own cheeks. "You think my eyes have stars in them?"
"Shut up."
Laughter settles over the both of you before your eyes meet. Jeno's eyes move down to your lips and his tongue darts out to wet his own absent mindedly.
"Can I kiss you?"
"Just our luck."
"I can't believe we witnessed a car crash?"
"At least it was a minor one. Nobody got hurt which is great news."
"Hang on, we have to tell those two we're going to be home late."
Jeno pulls away as his phone alerts him of a message received. You glance over at the screen, giggling at the content. Mark had sent a photo of the six of them posing with the police.
Just witnessed a car crash. Gonna be home late.
"Great, we can continue making out then." Jeno mumbles, throwing his phone aside and pulling you back in.

Sneak Peak
Hey guys! So, since I’m not posting till next Friday, I thought I’d give yall a little sneak peak to build hype for the next chapter.
Also, there might be some more moodboards of the sibling squad friendships in the week
Here’s the very first part of the next chapter!
Roxy was not going to think about it.
Nope. No sir, she was going to put that into a little box, shove it to the corner of her mind and ignore it for a good while.
She knew it couldn’t be the whole story, but she did not have the energy to dig into it.
Nope. Not doing it.
Instead, Roxy was focusing on packing.
As it turned out, she’d managed to convince her dad to let her go to Solaria for Chimera’s birthday, which meant she had to make sure she wasn’t forgetting anything for her very first interdimensional trip.
She had her pj’s, her toothbrush, a change for the following day, comfy shoes and a pillow just in case.
“Are you sure this is safe?” Her dad asked for the hundredth time as he paced just outside her door.
“Yeah, the squad have done this a hundred times.”
“Has Naten? He’ll be the one piloting right?”
“Yeah, he’s done it… a few times on his own. But don’t worry, Alexa will also be there.”
Her dad stopped for a moment, cocking his head, “And Shirley?”
“…yeah her too but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t actually have any experience in piloting.”
Her dad smirked, “Hmm.”
“Anyway, what’s important is that I trust Naten and Alexa and they just got their official piloting license like yesterday-”
“Yesterday?!”
“So it’s fine. They have the training and everything, seriously dad, it’ll be fine.”
Her dad shook his head for a moment, “Alright… if they have their official license I guess it should be fine… even if they’ve only had it for twenty-four hours… just be careful okay? And have fun.”
“You got it dad.”
Roxy all but skipped over to her dad, giving him a big hug, “Wish Chimera a happy birthday on my behalf.”
Half an hour later, Roxy stood in Bloom’s backyard, jaw hanging as she stared at the ship that had just landed.
A smaller version of the Owl, according to Timmy, the ramp lowered and Naten ran down with a huge smile, “I told you I could do a controlled landing by myself!”
Shirley appeared at the top, eyes wide and clutching her stomach, “You call that a controlled landing?!”
Riven nudged Sky, “Still better than the time we landed in Black Mud Swamp.”
Sky chuckled at that, “That was a crash not a landing Riv… man I’d nearly forgotten about that.”
They made quick work of grabbing Roxy’s stuff and showing off the ship while Tecna yelled from the bottom of the ramp to keep to the speed limit and to be careful.
The ramp closed up as Naten wrapped an arm around Roxy, “Alright ladies, let’s get this show on the road! Roxy, this is your seat, right next to the window so you have the best view.” He strolled on to sit at what Roxy could only assume to be the ‘helm’, a control panel filled with buttons and levers before him, “Please remain seated during our flight and maintain idle chatter, gossip is welcome on board, I am your beloved captain Naten, my co-captain is Alexa, we depart now at 9:17. a.m. from the lovely planet Earth, our destination is Solaria and we estimate an arrival time of 12:23 p.m. Thank you for flying with Newbie Pilots, now let’s get going!”
“Wait, you’re sure you can do this?”
“Roxy, I learned how to drive in Zenith, if you can drive there you can drive anywhere.”
Alexa snorted, “You learned to drive a tractor Nate.”
“Oh yee of little faith, we’ll be just fine. Now… for a smooth ascent.”
Roxy’s body suddenly lurched back and Shirley yelped before yelling at Naten.

Social Media Experiment
I am not an avid social media user but I am pretty tied to my phone when it comes to texts, emails, and news (local and global). When I was tracking my social media usage earlier this month, I was fairly happy with how much I use my phone and social media. I rarely post on Facebook or Instagram these days so that was not really a problem for me. I still haven't made a social media post all week. However, I do work in an office so I am on a computer for almost 8 hours a day during the week, then with my classes I'm on a computer a lot outside of work as well.
For this experiment, going a full 24 hours straight without using any technology was not an option for me so I had to break it up. However, I was able to go most of Thursday without it. I started on Friday and decided not to use my phone while I was at work at all. I told my husband and my daughter the night before that I wouldn't be using my phone so if it was an emergency they could call me at work. They didn't thankfully. I turned my phone off on Thursday night and instead of using my alarm in the morning, I had my daughter wake me up once she was done taking a shower. Once I got to work, it was immediately hard but not because of social media or anything, but because I listen to a book or music while I'm working. My desktop at work doesn't have Bluetooth so I couldn't listen through my work computer without everyone in the office hearing me. The next part that became hard was during my lunch break. That is usually when I use my phone the most during work, especially since I have an hour for lunch. However, I knew that would happen so I brought a book with me to work that day and read in my office with the door closed. The rest of work on Thursday was ok because I was pretty busy in the afternoon with meetings that the time passed pretty quickly. Once I got home from work on Thursday, I used my phone for about an hour because I had some phone calls that I had to return. For Thursday I went 12 hour without using my phone; 6:30am to 6:30pm. Friday, I did the same thing in the morning, skipped my alarm and had my daughter wake me up when she was done getting ready. I turned my phone off the night before and left it on my desk all of Friday morning. We had a groundbreaking event for a housing project and normally I would be taking photos and videos but I decided that there would be enough people at the event that they could send me the pictures and videos if I asked. I had some things to pick up for the event and a colleague tried to call me to ask me to get something extra but I didn't have my phone so that created a bit of a problem but once I got to the site I had enough time to run to the store and grab what we needed. I forgot to tell my colleagues I was doing this experiment so they were a little worried when I didn't answer but it all worked out. I got off work early on Friday and once I got home I found it hard not to take out my phone and play Sim City on it. Then I thought to clean my house but realized I couldn't listen to music or a book without my phone but I had already started so I finished the job. That was the hardest part of the whole 24 hours. I was going to pick my daughter up from school instead of making her ride the bus but I didn't want to turn my phone on and let her know I was coming to get her so I decided to just let her ride the bus. Once my daughter got home we decided to go see "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" play and I told my husband that I was leaving my phone at home and to call Z if he needed anything. Once we got back home, my twelve hours were up.
I realized that I am completely dependent on my phone to entertain me throughout the day with either books or music. I already knew I wasn't tied to social media, but I didn't realize how hard it would be to do my job or clean my house without a book or music. I could have played it through my laptop or Alexa, but I felt like that was cheating so I refrained but it was pretty difficult. Right now I am remodeling my house so I have an apartment for the short-term so my record player is at my house and I was really wishing I had it with me. I also found myself taking breaks from work to switch tabs and got to the NPR website or some other news source to be caught up on the news. Normally, I get a bunch of notifications from different news outlets and I feel up to date.
Even with the anxiety I felt not being able to listen to music or books during work and while cleaning, I found that I am fairly happy with my screen time during the day. I average about 4 hours of screen time per day and it's mostly listening to books, music, or reading the news. In the future, I would like to be better about not "doom scrolling" immediately upon waking up. Usually, I wake up, listen to NPR, and then get ready when my daughter is done getting ready. I have to admit, it felt good to have her wake me up rather than my annoying alarm and then immediately start reading news after waking up. I honestly don't know why I do that to myself, but it's just something that I do.

Buy Best Cheap TV Deals in October 2023 OLED and QLED Samsung, LG, Sony, Hisense, TCL
Tips for TV Shopping & Securing the Best Deals
- Prioritize 4K Resolution: Avoid settling for anything less than 4K. It's today's standard, so unless there's a too-good-to-resist deal on a 720p or 1080p TV, aim for 4K. - Opt for "Smart" Features: TVs with "smart" functionalities allow for easy streaming from platforms such as Roku, Hulu, and Prime Video. If you're not keen on a smart TV, simply keep it off the network, disabling its smart capabilities. - Seek Out HDR Compatibility: TVs with HDR offer richer colors and superior contrast. Although there are five HDR formats, primarily look for HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision. - Skip Extended Warranties: Most new TVs come with a one-year warranty. Furthermore, many credit card companies offer extra protection for purchases, so extended warranties often aren't necessary. - Be Cautious with Refurbished TVs: Unless there's a huge cost saving, it's best to avoid refurbished TVs. If they come with more wear and tear than expected, you might be responsible for return shipping, which can be costly due to size. - Consider Previous Models: Many 2022 TVs are still available for purchase. Differences between years might be subtle to the average viewer. Opting for a model from the previous year can lead to substantial savings.

Toshiba 55-Inch 4K Fire TV Edition: Budget-Friendly with Alexa Integration
Screen Details: - Size: 55 inches - HDMI Ports: 3 - Refresh Rate: 60 Hz - HDR Support: HDR10 - Dimensions (w/o stand): 28.7 x 49.1 x 3.7 inches Pros: - User-friendly Fire TV OS. - Integrated Alexa feature. - Support for HDR. - Affordable price point below $500. Cons: - Prominent ads. - Cluttered app store. - Average image and sound quality. The Toshiba C350 4K Fire TV Edition is Amazon's answer for those looking for a budget-friendly smart TV. Its standout feature? The integration of Amazon’s Prime Video and the ever-efficient Alexa voice controls. Not only does it provide access to Prime Video's vast collection of content, but the built-in Alexa function is as capable as its counterpart in the Amazon Echo. From managing smart home devices to weather forecasts and local restaurant searches, the voice assistant on this TV covers it all. Transitioning from the Westinghouse models of the previous year to Toshiba, this TV has seen several enhancements. These include better display quality, HDR compatibility, and a smoother user interface. However, it does grapple with certain limitations, such as average picture and sound performance. The TV's edge-lit backlighting and basic HDR support highlight a recurring concern with Amazon's TVs: while the Fire TV OS is commendable as a smart TV interface, the actual TV quality needs to independently impress. In our analysis, the C350 showcased a satisfactory viewing experience, with adequate brightness and commendable color reproduction, ensuring viewers can relish the content without compromising too much on quality.

Roku Plus Series 4K QLED TV: Roku's Stellar Entry into the TV Market
Specifications: - Screen Sizes: 55, 65, 75 inches - Screen Type: QLED - Refresh Rate: 60 Hz - HDMI Ports: 4 (HDMI 2.0) - Dimensions: 33.1 x 57 x 4 inches - Weight: 36.7 pounds Features: - Impressive price-to-performance ratio - Exceptional HDR color rendition - Clear audio quality - Efficient Roku TV user interface - Moderate brightness levels - Standard 60Hz refresh rate - Absence of HDMI 2.1 ports Roku's Plus Series 4K QLED TV marks the brand's remarkable pivot from primarily focusing on streaming software and devices to crafting televisions. For a debut, it’s a compelling one. Starting at a competitive $499, this series not only offers ample screen real estate but also boasts impressive picture and sound quality, features often compromised in budget-friendly models. Aesthetically, the TV exudes a premium feel. It's framed by a slender gray metal bezel, which is especially slim along the top, left, and right edges. The Roku brand gleams with a chrome finish, positioned centrally at the bottom. Empowered by quantum-dot LED technology, the TV produces rich colors and enhanced brightness levels. Our assessment revealed that the TV's performance aligns well with Roku's claims. While the vibrancy of the picture diminishes slightly as one moves away from the central viewing position, it takes a considerable shift for the display to lose its allure. When should you look for a TV deal? Bargain TV offers are consistently available throughout the year at major retail outlets. Whether it's Best Buy, Amazon, or Walmart, every week offers a chance to secure a good deal. However, during certain seasonal sales events, these retailers tend to slash prices even more. Noteworthy times include Black Friday in November and Prime Day during the summer. Interestingly, last year didn't just see discounts on older models; even the latest releases had their prices marked down. And now, with Super Bowl TV sales on the horizon, it's anticipated that a wave of fresh deals will emerge soon. Stay updated on current TV offers right here. When to buy the perfect TV deal? Throughout the year, top retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart consistently offer TV deals. So, irrespective of the season, you're likely to find a discounted TV that fits your budget. Nevertheless, the steepest discounts often coincide with major sales events. For instance, Black Friday in November and Prime Day in summer are renowned for offering exceptional TV deals. It's worth noting that these discounts aren't limited to older TV models; recent releases also see significant markdowns. As the Super Bowl TV sales approach, we're gearing up for an array of exciting offers soon. For the latest TV promotions, keep an eye on this space. OLED vs. QLED: Which Display Reigns Supreme? When contemplating a mid-tier or luxury TV purchase, the choice often boils down to two dominant display technologies: OLED and QLED. Each offers unique benefits and drawbacks, but for those who prioritize unparalleled image quality, OLED often emerges as the top pick. OLED TVs are renowned for their self-emissive screens, allowing individual pixels to autonomously dim or brighten. This results in an unmatched contrast ratio, positioning OLEDs as the go-to choice for those seeking the pinnacle of viewing experiences, especially in dimly lit settings like home theaters. A noted concern with OLEDs, however, is their susceptibility to image retention or even burn-in. Fortunately, contemporary models incorporate enhanced software and hardware mechanisms to mitigate this risk. Best practices, such as avoiding prolonged display of static elements (e.g., gaming HUDs or news tickers), can further reduce the chances of burn-in. Conversely, QLED TVs employ the more traditional LCD panel approach, utilizing a backlight to project images. While these backlights can be sectioned into zones for targeted dimming, even the most advanced QLEDs can't rival the individual pixel contrast achievable with OLEDs. This occasionally results in imperfect dark scenes, manifesting as either glaring halos around luminous objects or graying of deep blacks. QLED's forte lies in its superior brightness levels. Premium QLED TVs tend to outshine most OLEDs, making them a preferable choice for well-lit environments. Their capacity to produce striking HDR highlights, especially for intensely bright scenes, is noteworthy. Additionally, QLEDs usually come with a more palatable price tag compared to OLEDs and eliminate any concerns regarding burn-in.
Selecting the Perfect TV: A Comprehensive Guide
Navigating the expansive world of TVs can be daunting, given the plethora of choices across sizes, brands, and display technologies. Moreover, price points oscillate significantly based on the features in question. At the most affordable end of the spectrum, small HDTVs are available from around $100, often with resolutions limited to 720p or 1080p. A respectable 4K TV might set you back between $300 and $500, contingent on its dimensions. Understandably, every additional expenditure usually equates to a boost in quality. Venturing into premium territory, top-tier 4K TVs with expansive screens can command prices ranging from $1,200 to $1,500 and beyond. Embarking on your TV-purchasing journey, it's prudent to define your budget, which will likely correlate with your desired screen size. Aim for a size that facilitates easy viewing from multiple angles without necessitating significant head movements. Consider the importance of top-tier image quality in your decision-making process. For those seeking unparalleled visual splendor, a 4K TV featuring an OLED or QLED panel is ideal. Technologies such as local dimming and quantum dots enhance color vibrancy and contrast, culminating in a mesmerizing HDR display. Gaming enthusiasts should prioritize TVs with 120Hz and variable refresh rate capabilities to leverage the full potential of next-gen consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Meanwhile, cinephiles should keep an eye out for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos integration to replicate a cinematic ambiance. Conversely, if your intent is to acquire a straightforward smart TV for casual viewing, a conventional LED screen might suffice. While the visual fidelity might not rival premium counterparts, numerous affordable 4K TVs offer commendable performance, encapsulating features like 4K resolution, HDR, and an extensive app ecosystem. El oro pudo más que mi dolor
No tuviste compasión de mi agonía
Tú, sabiendo que mi alma se moría
Con amigos, entre copas, te reías
La ambición, delirio de grandeza
Hizo en mí un ser martirizado

Mujer, yo no merezco esa bajeza
Espero, con el tiempo justiciero
Que retornes buscando una ilusión de amor

Así lo espero, mujer sin corazón

Sunday, September 18
The councilwoman came down the street today, handing out flyers about a free food giveaway next Friday. I was on the porch with mum, in the heat and both of us wearing masks because we've all been sick and my covid tests still haven't arrived, so idk what kiddo and I have, but my mum is still recovering from an almost two week long illness, so she doesn't need to get this too.
I took the flyer and tried not to think about how long Friday is from now. At least it's something to look forward to. I hope I feel well enough to go, we desperately need the food.
Kiddo had a meltdown while we were sat out there. They went in the house and started throwing things, almost broke a window.
We have to skip therapy tomorrow, due to the mystery illness, which is good, because I know the payment would bounce again. How many times will they let that happen before they kick us out of the program, I wonder?
And I thought, as kiddo chucked who knows what at the window, what if it breaks? What if we end up at the hospital needing stitches for someone? Would they call CPS on us?
And what if this is covid? What if the pain in my chest makes it too hard to breathe? My mum went home, and what could kiddo do if I couldn't get out of bed? What if I can't work this week?
My mum texted me to ask if I'd fed kiddo, if maybe the meltdown was due to hunger. Idk. I made ramen earlier. We still have some eggs. There's a few slices of bread and an outrageous amount of american cheese (kiddo hates american cheese). I can't make myself eat, my mouth is so dry I can barely swallow anything. But I think kiddo ate the ramen. Kiddo is so tired of ramen.
Kiddo needs to go to therapy. I realized today how very long it's been since kiddo got to play with any other kids. The neighbors have all kind of retreated since the flood. We're all just struggling to survive. But at least at therapy, kiddo gets to talk to someone outside the family and do some fun games.
They were supposed to be observed by a speech therapist this week. Kiddo gets so mad when alexa and google don't understand what they're trying to say. When speech-to-text doesn't provide the right words.
The light bulb went out in kiddo's room. The tall ladder was broken in the flood. So I would have to stack some things to change the bulb. I said I couldn't do it today. Too lightheaded. I still haven't eaten today.
So kiddo is collecting lamps and things that glow. Supposedly kiddo is cleaning their room. I just hope the bed is cleared by bedtime.
Friday, September 23
I got home from the "food giveaway" and this is what's in the box.
I mean, thanks, but I can't feed this to my kid.
They gave me an air purifier, a flat of water, and some more disinfectant.
I went back, to be sure I didn't miss anything, and they said "yeah the food went in the first half hour" and then gave me a few food pantry suggestions - open on Tuesday (Blessed Theresa) and Friday mornings (behind city hall).
And as I'm putting the car in drive with tears running down my face because clearly I'm not getting food today, this older man shouts after me me to pray about it. Didn't offer to pray for me or with me. Just said "pray about it".
Absolutely patronizing. Miserable experience.
I don't have heat in my house, or healthy food, but I have a flat of water, two gallons of disinfectant cleaner, and an air purifier.
Those things would have been helpful the first month after the flood. Instead *I* paid for those types of things and now I don't have money to feed my kid.
Sorry to rant here, I just don't have anyone irl to vent to.

**************
“So you’re telling me that you were homeless for 3 years?”
Alex and you were on your way home now, walking shoulder to shoulder and laughing like school children. He had a fantastic sense of humor and was witty beyond belief. The two of you had been playing off of each other and bantering non-stop for the last hour of your shift and ended up getting a bit tipsy before you left. Now you were reeling through the quiet streets of London toward your flat.
“Absolutely not! I could have gone home, I just didn’t. I never even slept in my car or anything I was always in someone’s house or a hotel room. Think of it as like…… I went on tour.” you giggled.
Alex rolled his eyes. “Love, I am a musician. That’s not a tour. That’s a teenage girl living out of her car and smoking an obscene amount of marijuana with strangers in every state.”
You stopped dead in your tracks and a massive smile appeared across your face. “A musician you say?”
“Yes, Y/N. A musician.”
“Well have I heard you in anything before? What’s your band called? Are they big?”
“Not sure if you’d have heard us. We only have one or two big songs in the states. We’ve got a bit of success here in Europe, though. Ever heard of Arctic Monkeys?”
Your jaw dropped. Everything was falling into place. Alex. Alex Turner. Arctic Monkeys. The hair. The voice. The confidence.
“No. There’s no way. You’re not Alex Turner. That can’t be right.” you shook your head in disbelief.
Alex looked at you and furrowed his brows. “Do I not live up to my name, darling?”
You blushed and your eyes grew wide “Oh my God no that’s not what I meant! I’m just trying to wrap my head around the fact that I’ve spent the last two hours with a heartthrob rockstar and I didn’t realize it.”
“A heartthrob you say?” Alex puffed his chest up and lifted his chin in a sort of playful, cocky way.
“Woah woah woah, Turner. Don’t go all narcissistic on me. I’m just repeating what the tabloids say.”
Alex chuckled and shook his head. “You’re funny, Y/N. This is one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time.”
“I don’t believe that. You’re hanging out with some tipsy bartender in the middle of some random neighborhood.”
“Trust me, this is better than what I usually do on Friday nights.”
“What does a big rockstar like you usually do on Friday nights then?”
“Recently? Sleep until one in the morning and then get fucked up at some bar alone. Then go back to sleep.”
“Well that’s depressing.”
“Just be glad that tonight you could provide a lad some real fun.”
At that Alex put his arm around your shoulder and pulled you in for a side-hug. He smelled like cigarettes and sandalwood musk, and you wished you could have your new friend’s arm wrapped around you forever. To lengthen your time close to him, you wrapped your arm around his waist and the two of you began walking with your arms wrapped around each other.
“Well, here we are,” you sighed after a few more minutes of walking. “Home sweet home.”
The two of you looked up at the apartment complex in front of you. Alex still had his arm wrapped around you, and you were fumbling through your jacket pocket for your keys. “Do you want to come in? Obviously you don’t have to, but it’s pretty chilly tonight and I’m not sure how far you live.”
Alex flashed you a smile and you blushed at the sight of his hand going through his unruly hair and his brown eyes looking into yours. “I’d love to come in.”
*************
“Just go ahead and make yourself at home. I’ve got to go take a shower and warn my roommate that you’re here. There’s alcohol in the pantry and the glasses are in the cupboard left of the sink.” You let out a long sigh of relief as you entered your flat. Alex followed you closely, taking off his sweater when he passed through the threshold. You had to keep yourself from staring at his toned arms before biting your lip and walking down the hall towards Tatiana’s room.
“Hey Tati, wake up,” you whispered and tapped your flat-mate on the shoulder. She snorted awake and gave you a dirty look.
“Why are you waking me right now?” She grunted.
“I just wanted to let you know that the man in the living room is not an intruder and is instead a new friend of mine.”
Tati’s eyes shot open. “YOU MADE A FRIEND? A MALE FRIEND? WHAT KIND OF FRIEND?” she squealed. You gave her a dirty look and put your hand over her mouth to shush her.
“Thin walls, idiot. He’s just a friend friend.”
“I don’t believe that for one second. I’m gonna go out and say hi to him.”
“You better not, Tatiana.”
“I’m goinngggggg!!” Tati sang as she slipped out from under her comforters and towards the door. You put your forehead in your palm before following her and making sure she didn’t say anything stupid.
“Alex, this is my roommate Tati. Tati, Alex.” you muttered as Tatiana waltzed into the living room and sat beside Alex on the couch. When she plopped down beside him and turned to shake his hand, her eyes went wide.
“It’s- it’s uh- it’s nice to m-meet you Alex,” she stuttered. Once again, your forehead was in your palm. god dammit Tati. Of course you know who he is.
“Very good to meet you, Tati. This is a lovely place you two have,” Alex chuckled, and shook Tati’s hand firmly. She was ghost white.
“Tati, don’t you think it’s time for you to go back to sleep?” you said through gritted teeth. Tatiana shot you a confused look and smiled weakly at Alex before you both went back down the hall into her room.
After making sure the door was closed behind the both of you, Tatiana looked at you with her jaw dropped and her eyes wide.
“Alex Turner is in my living room. Why is Alex Turner in my living room?” She hissed.
You sat on her bed and finally took off your heels. “He showed up at the club like, an hour before closing and just started talking to me. I didn’t realize who he was until we were on our way back here.”
“Are you saying you invited Alex Turner into our house without realizing it was Alex Turner?”
“Actually he was the one who offered to walk me home. I didn’t invite him in until we got here.”
“Alex Turner….. offered to walk you home….”
“As friends. Just friends.”
“Love, I don’t care if he’s just a friend, you still caught the eye of Alex motherfucking Turner.”
You rolled your eyes and chuckled before standing up and skipping toward the door. “Well you sit here and have your Alex Turner breakdown, I’m going to go shower so I don’t keep our guest waiting any longer.”
***********
After your shower, you put on an old sweater and some yoga pants. You ran a comb through your wet hair as you walked out of your room to see Alex sprawled out in the couch, a glass of whiskey in his hand.
“Glad to see you made yourself at home, Turner,” you teased, and ruffled his hair as you walked past him and towards the kitchen.
“Only doing what you asked, Y/L/N,” Alex yawned.
“Not getting tired there, are you?” You smirked. Alex sat up on the couch and looked at you with a goofy smile and tired eyes.
“Not a bit.”
“Bullshit. You can stay if you’d like. I’m perfectly comfortable with letting you crash on the couch as long as you let me sit with you for a while so I can drink my glass of wine,” you cooed before taking a bottle of wine and a glass to the living room.
Alex moved his legs out from next to him and patted a spot on the couch. “Of course, Y/N. I’d love the company.” When you sat down next to him, he put an arm around you and you rested your head on his shoulder. “For a girl I only met a few hours ago, I trust you a lot. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed someone’s company like this.”
You blushed and did your best to hold back a giggle. “Trust me, I’m not usually this calm. I promise I’ll be a bit more interesting once I get some sleep.”
“Oh you’re plenty interesting already, Y/N. I am excited to see what you’re like at not 4 in the morning, though.”
“Thanks Alex.”
“Y/N? Can I rant to you for a bit? I need the advice of a woman.”
“Of course, Alex. What’s up?”
Alex took a deep breath and pulled you in a bit closer. You could tell whatever he was about to say had been bothering him for a while and you patted his thigh reassuringly.
“It’s okay Alex. I’m here for you,,” you sat up and put your arms around him, so now his head was on your shoulders. You continued cooing affirmations to him and running your hand through his hair before he took his head off of your shoulder and looked you in the eyes.
“Alexa and I broke up last week,” he whispered. Tears began forming in his eyes and you moved your hands from around his neck to the sides of his face to wipe away the tears now streaming down his cheeks.
“I’m sorry Alex, that’s awful,” you whispered. He pulled you back into a hug and nuzzled his head into the crook of your neck. You both sat in silence for a while before he sighed and gave you a little squeeze.
“I’m sorry for getting all emotional on you, I promise I’m usually more cool than this,” Alex chuckled weakly. “I just don’t have anyone other than my mates to talk to right now and I just feel really comfortable around you.”
“It’s okay Alex. I’m one hundred percent here for you. I’m gonna help you get through this. I promise,” you whispered. You could feel Alex’s tears on your neck and you couldn’t help but get a bit choked up yourself. It’d been years since anyone had confided in you and the fact that Alex felt comfortable enough to let you in on a secret like that in only one night of knowing you warmed your heart. You knew that Alex would be a friend for a long time and you were determined to help him through this.
“Hey, Al?”
“Yeah, Y/N/N?”
“I know what we’re gonna do tomorrow.”
