the single seater racing ladder has gone soooo SO crazy bc whilst it’s been ridiculously expensive for a decent amount of time now how has it ended up in a place where the monaco feature race winner who is in an f1 driver academy and is still mathematically in title contention has had to abandon his f2 season with two rounds to go due to funding issues

On a serious note:

Alex lost his seat F1 after 2020 cause Checo had the money and the experience and the results but RB dragged the decision out for reasons (the reasons being that they could and also Alex being thai) so Alex was still under contract for 2021 and had no way out (and I think kinda didn’t want to get out) so RBR basically could put Alex anywhere they wanted him so they 1) made Alex their sim and development driver meaning Alex did basically all the sim work for RBR and helped the engineers fix all the issues the car had in the year beforehand that he struggled with according to everyone and according to Checo was fundamental in him adjusting to the car and the team so quickly cause Alex gave him all the tipps and 2) RB signed Yuki for AT and cause Alex is Alex (RE: tall like the Statue of Liberty) they made him mentor Yuki which he did a lil reluctantly cause he knew he wasn’t getting Checo’s seat but he still felt he had a chance at AT but also he’s Alex so he got over it quickly and helped Yuki cause Yuki had barely any international racing experience (basically didn’t know any tracks) and then 3) DTM was struggling as a series and was sold and Gerhard Berger bought into it and he called up his old buddies at RedBull and got them to offer two drivers and at the point Liam and Alex where two very high profil single seater drivers that RB didn’t really know what to do with so why not give them a different challenge so Liam did double duties with F2 and Alex basically stopped sleeping and started working non stop and helping Liam a lil cause Alex is a big brother at heart and likes to help people and Liam was a 19 year old flocking to him yeah that’s RedBull part of the 2021 season as an Alex fan

digging into the little avatars that some riders have.... all of them are so cute and representative of their riders... im only gonna talk about a few here but i might add more later !

vale: cartoony turtle. the first to do this as far as i can tell! originated from a toy turtle (i think a teenage mutant ninja turtle lmao) that his mom gave him as a kid that he mounted on his helmet. classiccccc vale, very ironic and tongue-in-cheek, tattooed on his body in the funniest place possible, and of course the joke relies on the audience knowing that he's the fastest dude in the room ! very in-character choices all

marc: fire ant. he said i am tiny. he said i am SMALL. he said i am fierce and strong for my size... not a classically fierce choice but nonetheless makes a lot of sense to me ! also very funny that the intial design for the ant was made by vale's helmet guy, though i think he's moved towards the sharper design in recent years post-divorce and the legal stuff with its image rights... fun post about marc choosing it as his mascot by @frongsonabike here (also a very deeply catalan choice, according to @babynflames !)

bez: scorpion !!!!! this man is undeniably keyed into astrology lmao. hes a scorpio and he LOVESSSS IT. absolutely fascinating implications for his character on that, considering scorpios are a sign that catches a lot of flack. like. he looked at a list of scorpio traits and said omg me fr i need to convert this into a branding opportunity...

cele. the WAVEEE literally iconic to me. fits him SO well imo. serene. immutable. undeniably and probably unintentionally hilarious when used as punctuation. my favorite of these in the graphic design sense and i love that he changed FUCK ALL about it design-wise when he moved to KTM. also very cute that the 13 on his bike looks like the bottom of a pool!

fabio. el diablo !!! very fun considering i think hes the biggest lover boy on the grid but hes also FASTTT so i get it, its baddass etc. i DO think he would prefer the devil emoji on instagram to be red but that has been cruelly denied from him by apple.
