I like how I agree with everything Rocky says. He’s such an agreeable, likable, and wise man.

The fight was much more skilled than I’ve seen. Like, they know what they’re doing rather than sheer force.

Ricky’s entrance was like the Durmstrangs entering.

Spoiler: [About little Adonis getting into a fight in juvie. He has a visitor, who he believes to be a social worker since he’s hopped for foster home to foster home. She tells him she’s the wife of his father, Apollo Creed. She wants him to live with her. Adonis is grown up now and goes to Mexico to go fight fights and comes back to LA real quickly to go back to his day, office job. He just got a promotion, but he decides to quit. He goes back to his large mansion of a home and watches fights of his father. He goes to the gym to train and they don’t accept him from his little small time fights. He offers his Mustang to anyone who can get a head shot on him. He fights the first guy and destroys him. Then the #2 Pound for Pound boxer challenges him and destroys him and gets the car. He goes home and tells him mom that he quit and is fighting now. He moves to Philly and visits Rocky at Adrian’s after it’s closed. He asks about the famous pictures everywhere and about the closed doors fight between him and Apollo. Rocky asks him how he knows about that. Adonis asks to be trained by Rocky and he says he doesn’t do that. Adonis calls himself Donnie and starts talking about Mickey and Rocky wants to know how he knows all this. He reveals he’s Apollo’s son and to ask his mom. Rocky says he can tell Donnie is educated and he shouldn’t have to fight. He also says Apollo won the closed doors fight. Donnie is trying to sleep until his neighbor blasts music and he goes to shut it down and finds a pretty girl. He then goes to Mickey’s gym in the morning and starts practicing. He sees a poster of Bianca at a music show and sees that she’s his neighbor. Donnie goes to Rocky and gets some training tips since he won’t train him. Donnie then takes Bianca out to go eat and learns about her gradual hearing loss. He also wants to come with for her next show. Rocky stops by to Mickey’s even though he hasn’t been here for a very long time. He talks with Pete, who introduces him to his son–The #4 light heavyweight, Leo. Donnie then comes up and talks with Rocky. He agrees to train him. Pete eventually wants Donnie to fight Leo even though Rocky doesn’t want it. Donnie then moves into Rocky’s place and as he leaves, he introduces Rocky to Bianca as his uncle. Pete comes to Rocky saying he knows the kid is Apollo’s kid after he asked around. Rocky says to keep it a secret so he can make a name for himself. He fights Leo and wins. He gets with Bianca at Rocky’s place after Rocky goes to sleep. In the morning, she searches up Donnie to find out it’s now known that Apollo is his father. She’s upset that he didn’t tell her the truth and they talk about their relationship. He tells her the truth from now on. Conlan’s people come to ask for a fight at the expense of having him change his last name to Creed since he’s been going by Johnson. Conlan is the current #1 pound for pound fighter. Bianca talks to Donnie about not being ashamed of being Creed’s son and accepting that he is a Creed and his own person. As Rocky and Donnie are training, Rocky throws up and goes to the hospital. He later finds out he has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He doesn’t want chemotherapy since Adrian did it and it didn’t go well. He keeps the pamphlets in his pockets, which Donnie later finds. He learns that he won’t take treatment and gets upset. Rocky regretfully tells Donnie that he isn’t family. Donnie goes to Bianca’s show and fights with a guy that calls him Baby Creed. He ends up in jail. Rocky comes to get him and Donnie is still upset and gets rid of him after Rocky talks to him to help him. Donnie gets released and goes apologizes to Bianca, who wants them to focus on themselves right now after she learns about Rocky’s sickness. Rocky and Donnie have dinner together and both agree to fight. Donnie starts training at the hospital as Rocky gets treatment. It’s around time for the fight and Rocky brings Bianca to Donnie and they make up. The day of the fight, Donnie’s mom sends him shorts that are red, white, and blue. The fight happens and they make it to the bell, but

Unveiling the Passion: A Dialogue between a Composer and Conductor on their Journey to Julliard and the World of Classical Music

This esteemed institution has nurtured countless musical prodigies, shaping their talents and inspiring them to leave an indelible mark on the world of music. Among these luminaries is a Julliard-trained composer whose extraordinary journey is a testament to the transformative power of classical music. From humble beginnings to the grandest concert halls, this composer's story is an enchanting symphony of passion, perseverance, and unwavering dedication to the art form.

Levi Wise Kenneth Catoe Jr.: What is your background in music, Alex, and if you can explain to our audience a little bit about your classical musical training would be greatly appreciated?

Alex Marrero: I am a private teacher of classical piano lessons, and I have studied with Mary Stein, Morris Borenstein, Vladimir Feltsman, Evelyn Chen, and Jeanne Golan. LWC: That’s great Alex. How long have you been studying?

AM: I started taking piano lessons at age 5. LWC: Wow that is wonderful Alex. What would you say is a good age to begin studying classical music, and is there an ‘age’ at which people might become too stuck in their ways to adapt to the rigors of classical musical training over a course of a lifetime?

AM: I think that parents can introduce music to a child once they know they are having one (a baby); even for the 9 months before the child is born (in utero), the music that the mother may sing to the child shares the same chemistry as the future child to be born. {Note: Personally, I do believe that when we are younger, it is easier to adapt to the rigors of performing arts training, but as people grow older, our minds become less malleable regarding the arts, so accepting certain disciplines becomes tougher.}

LWC: Great point and oh I do so agree. You must expose a child to classical music in utero. Can you please explain your Julliard training, simply because Julliard is regarded as the premier institution for the arts, but I have heard some say it’s out of touch as well as too demanding? What are your feelings regarding the Juilliard training? AM: When I finished my bachelor's degree in music history from SUNY-New Paltz, I wanted to "test the waters" at Juilliard, so I took a couple of "survey-style" music history courses between the autumn of 2003 and the spring of 2004. I knew for a fact that there would be sons and daughters of United Nations diplomats who could blow me away with my level of piano technique, but I continued and soon persevered. I believe that Juilliard is becoming a lot more progressive while maintaining its standards. However, since Juilliard is a school of music, dance, and drama, the institution is surely asking itself, how are we providing foundations for the performing artists of the future?

LWC: As they should be. I had private vocal classes at Juilliard for Broadway Voice lessons and I am an alumnus of AMDA (American Musical & Dramatic Academy) so there is definitely a reputation to uphold but also a changing young artist of today that now sees celebrity as an influencer of Tik-Tok or IG which may not be necessarily disciplined professionally in art (performance, vocal, acting, or dance). As a conductor of music explain to the readers what that requires and also if you can the importance of the conductor to an orchestra.

AM: My opinions are certainly subjective, so I think it is very important to keep in mind that performers around the world, whether playing, singing, or doing both, perform the great majority of music without sheet music and may average 5 minutes in length. If someone decides to become the conductor of a large ensemble, such as a chorus or a band, or an orchestra, it is really important to be an all-around musician. They must know Solfege {note: Solfege, also called “solfeggio” or “solfa,” is a system where every note of a scale is given its own unique syllable, which is used to sing that note every time it appears.} Harmony, Ear training, Score Reading, and Composition; and these are some of the skills that they’ll need along with knowledge of historical performance practice, including contemporary special effects. They will need to have a great voice with great vocal skills, great keyboard skills, and a great understanding of how all instruments work with their ranges and strengths. As a conductor, you should be able to perform as a soloist with your major ensemble, your right-hand technique should be impeccable with changing meter, whether or not you use a baton and your left hand should also be excellent with entrances, releases, and dynamics. Ensembles that intentionally rehearse and perform concerts without a conductor, such as the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, may use open-ended questions when reaching collective decisions on the compositions they are working on.

LWC: Oh wow, thank you for your considerate response to the question. So for anyone of our readers who is interested, there is everything that you should be considering above. Alex, who is your favorite composer, and why is this person your favorite composer(s)?

AM: While (Johann Sebastian) Bach is my favorite composer, I am being very open-minded about listening to as many different composers as possible. My Composer Advocation Project (CAP) involving the Committee on Cultural Inclusion (CCI) for the College Music Society (CMS) features contemporary works by contemporary musicians in the USA and around the world.

LWC: What composer inspired you to become a musician? Was it a classical or mainstream musician?

AM: I believe that in the USA, Leonard Bernstein made a tremendous impact on the classical music world as a composer, conductor, pianist, educator, and author. I really like the fact that he knew what was happening in the worlds of ballet, drama, musical theater, and pop music of the 1950s through the 1980s. LWC: What mainstream artists do you listen to, if any?

AM: Although I do not do enough of this, I really enjoy listening to jazz, Latin, and electronic dance music. LWC: Really? You’ve just given some flashbacks with the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) association because now I’m thinking of the Lee Curreri ‘1980s character from Fame (movie and TV show) Bruno, who was classically trained but alternately inspired by the use and experimentation of synthesizers. But alas, I grew up loving theater; my favorite musical scores are Man of La Mancha and West Side Story. Do you have a favorite musical theater soundtrack?

AM: Going back to Leonard Bernstein, I believe West Side Story is a great combination of the classical, jazz, and Latin styles of the 1950s.

AM: Although I prefer to drive to the homes of my students in Orange County, New York State to have piano lessons with them, I also offer instruction remotely online. [ad_1] The first footage to surface from the five-hour, closed-door school board meeting that Denver Public Schools fought to keep secret shows Superintendent Alex Marrero informing board members that then-Mayor Michael Hancock told him he planned to issue an executive order to force the reinstatement of armed police in schools if the board didn’t do so. “The mayor can exact an executive order just like he did with the vaccination mandates. I understand this is a very problematic conversation to have. But it is going to happen. It is beyond our control,” Marrero told board members in the short video clip. DPS board Vice President Auon’tai Anderson tweeted the nearly 2½-minute segment in the wake of the board’s vote Friday to release the video recording of its March 23 executive session — which a judge already had ordered the district to make public after ruling the meeting violated state law. Anderson (@AuontaiAnderson) July 21, 2023 The board’s executive session took place one day after a 17-year-old student at East High School shot and wounded two administrators inside the school. That and other shootings increased public pressure on the board to reverse a decision it made in June 2020 to ban armed police officers in district schools. The decision to ban school resource officers, or SROs, came during widespread protests against police violence following the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota. Hours after the East shooting, Marrero sent the board’s members a letter saying he planned to put armed officers back in Denver’s comprehensive high schools despite the fact that doing so “likely violates” Board of Education policy. “I am willing to accept the consequences of my actions,” Marrero wrote. Following the March 23 executive session, Anderson said in media interviews that Marrero told members of Hancock’s plan to issue an executive order to require that officers be placed back in the schools. Hancock, however, disputed making any threats and denied through a spokesman that an executive order was discussed — though Marrero later confirmed to The Denver Post that the mayor did discuss with him the use of such an order. In the video clip, which Anderson also distributed to the news media on Saturday, Anderson argues that any discussion of reinstatement of SROs was moot and that the board had its hands tied, saying the “mayor needs to just go ahead and take that control and do it.” “Whether we agree or disagree, our opinions truly don’t matter around the reinstitution of safety officers across the district because you now told us that you will override whatever the board tells you if it is not in line with reinstating SROs,” Anderson said in the clip. “You have now given that very clearly to us. And that if you don’t do it, the mayor plans to do it.” After the five-hour closed session, the DPS board reconvened its public meeting and voted without discussion to temporarily reverse its 2020 policy and reinstate police officers in its high schools. No executive order was ever issued by the mayor. A divided board voted in June to make the reinstatement permanent. The Post and other news organizations argued the March meeting violated the Colorado Open Meetings Law and sued DPS for a recording of the meeting. On June 23, Denver District Court Judge Andrew Luxen sided with the media plaintiffs, ruling the March 23 meeting violated the law because it wasn’t properly noticed and elected boards are not allowed to create public policy in secret. The judge ordered that the video be released, though that was put on hold after DPS appealed the ruling to the Colorado Court of Appeals. On Friday, the DPS board voted unanimously to release the full five-hour video, which district spokesman Bill Good told The Post should be made public at some point on Monday after any conversations discussing specific students are redacted.
