Under the Armor

To my little sister:

I was just thinking the other day about how you went from this spoiled, mean, and tempered kid to a humorous, grateful, and thoughtful teenager. Sometimes, I really am amazed by this because usually for people it’s the other way around. But recently, I started to realized that you had many of those positive traits when you were young too, even though they showed less. 

I still remember how you used to always keep your promises. We set the schedule that I get the computer from 6pm-10pm and you get 3pm-6pm and you know, you rarely ever tried to stay on longer than you were supposed to or even complain about having less time. Remember the $5 store rule? I can’t believe that you followed this rule until you were in 8th grade and sometimes you subconsciously think about it even when I’m not there. I still remember the first time you bought more than $5 worth of junkfood at WaWa you kept talking about how maybe you shouldn’t have, it’s a waste of money, etc. 

Under all that temper that you use to protect yourself, there is and always was such a great part of you.

You are the first of many.

I think I made a really big mistake, and now I don’t know what to do. 

When I saw that you’d asked her to prom - so much quicker than when you were deliberating asking me, might I add - I laughed it off. I was with friends, and I didn’t want them to see I might actually be hurt by that. I mean, Adrian had asked me a couple weeks ago, so why should I be bothered? We aren’t together; we aren’t anything near that actually.

When we “dated,” I didn’t realize I was rushing into things. I was, though. Big time. I should’ve known better than to agree to date anyone so soon after Jackson. 

I was scared. I didn’t want to lose you.

Now, you believe that I only see you as a brother and could never love you like you want me to. God, I’m so stupid. 

I do, though, and now it’s too late because you’re taking Aylin and I’m with Adrian. He’s so sweet; I could never hurt him. But I could also never see myself loving him like I know I love you. 

We made eye contact for a solid half second today during a break in practice. You won’t remember it in the time it takes this to get to you, but I wanted you to read my thoughts to badly in that glimpse into my eyes that I continued to stare at where you had stood only moments before, hoping for an answer to my silent prayers. 

I’m sorry. It’s too late and it’s my fault. 

I don’t know why I chose to write you first. I don’t know what it means but I hope I figure it out soon.
