Jace and Alec hated those school trips. It always felt like such a waste of time while they could stay at home and play video games for two days. But Izzy would always drag them with her, claiming that the gang needed to be there together. So they went every single time.

And sure, Jace liked spending time with his friends but school trips meant stupid games that were supposed to help them make new friendships. How was that supposed to help anyone?

“Oh, come on, Jace. You always complain and then you’re taking part in all of them because you want to win,” Izzy said while crossing her arms.

“Well, if I’m there I might as well win at everything. That’s only fair,” he replied smirking at her.

“Can you finally get in?” Alec whined, standing behind them.

“Relax, big brother. Magnus will be there as well,” she laughed and ran into the bus immediately.

Jace started laughing as well and went into the bus, right after his sister, leaving a slightly blushing Alec alone.

The three of them were forced to go to a private high school. Their parents wanted them to receive the best education and they believed a public high school wouldn’t be good enough.So they got seperated from their friends two years ago. But they met after school every single day, usually in Java Jones, their favourite coffee shop.

Their schools would often organise those trips together, probably to remind all those snobs from their school how real life looked like. Jace wasn’t sure if any of this ever worked, though.

They arrived right in the field in the middle of nowhere, just outside the city. It was a nice area, surrounded by trees. There was a big field where they would play their games and a campsite where they would eat and sleep.

Jace checked his phone. “No bars? Are you kidding me?” he complained. “This is 21st century, what the hell?”

“Actually, there are many places in the world that have no bars,” he heard a voice behind him and he almost jumped.

“Thanks for this very useful information, Simon,” he groaned.

He went for sarcasm instead of struggling with catching his breath because of course Simon had to wear the tighest T-shirt ever. Huge arms and abs to die for.Yes, Jace was a goner but despite his overconfidence, he was always too afraid to make a move on him. Simon never really seemed interested and Jace didn’t want to lose his friendship.

But he couldabsolutely do this. He just needed to figure out how to breathe properly whilestanding next to Simon for the whole day. Easy.

After lunch Principal Garroway annonced that it was time for games and told them to pair up with someone from another school. And because universe clearly hated him, Alec paired up with Magnus and Izzy with Clary. So that left him with pairing up with Simon.

“Three-legged race! Nice, I love this game!” Simon clapped his hands.

He had the biggest smile on his and suddenly Jace started doubting his plan of breathing properly would ever work out.

They were all standing in the same line and Jace’s left leg was tied up to Simon’s right one. The distance between them was barely there and Jace could smell Simon’s new cologne.

“Would you quit moving around?” Jace said because it was already way too hard not to fall over when Simon was that close. He didn’t need him to move before they even had to start running.

He might’ve had problems with composure but he still wanted to win this thing.

“It’s not my fault we’re tied up together!” Simon murmured and fixed the glasses on his nose. He looked adorable.

Jace knew he shouldn’t have stared so long because of course something was bound to happen.

For some reason Simon thought he had something on his face and before Jace even got a chance to deny it, Simon moved around even more and before he knew it, they fell over.

Jace on his butt and Simon right on top of him.

“Ouch,” Jace winced.

“Sorry- I’m so so sorry. Are you o-okay?” Simon stuttered and was touching Jace’s face and arms and-

“Your hand is on my chest,” Jace breathed out, looking straight into Simon’s eyes.

Simon’s face was inches from his and Jace really wanted to kiss him.

“Um, yes. You have- you have a very nice chest,” Simon said and blushed.

Jace was quite aware of the fact that his muscles were rather impressive but he wasn’t exactly prepared for Simon admitting that while still lying on top of him. Although, neither of them actually made any afford to stand up so far.

“Are you two love birds going to finally stand up? We would like to start,” Principal Garroway was right above them, clearly trying to hide his smirk. He wasn’t doing a very good job at that, though.

“Sorry, Mr. Garroway,” they both said in unison and somehow managed to get up with the help of Alec and Magnus who were standing next to them.

Jace looked at his partner in game but Simon was currently observing his shoes and avoiding Jace’s eyes. 

Something told him that maybe it was a good time to finally risk it and take a chance. Now or never.

“Hey, Si. Do you wanna grab a coffee tomorrow after the trip?” he asked, trying to sound confident.

Simon finally looked at him with those big eyes. “We’re all probably going to Java Jones, yeah.”

Jace chuckled. “No, I mean just you and me.”

Simon blinked. Once. Twice. Jace was about to start worrying.

“Oh,” Simon smiled again. “I’d love to.”

Maybe this trip wasn’t so stupid after all.
