They help people experiencing a variety of issues including family violence, financial crisis and suicide prevention. Their services include offering hope, a safe place to talk and a way forward.
The charity operates nationally with 41 Lifeline centres and over 11,000 volunteers and staff. It also delivers community programs and fundraising activities and supports students at Victoria University with real-world placements and internships in their areas of study.
Lifeline Direct Limited (LLD) collects personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 and for the purpose of delivering services and operations as part of a national network in pursuit of its vision of an Australia free from suicide. This includes delivering accredited and non-accredited training, facilitating complaints investigations, conducting research and program quality improvement, and assisting with enquiries from third parties.
It’s confidential
We are here for everyone – a safe, confidential place to call to talk about any issue.
We are here 24 hours a day, providing telephone and online crisis support. Lifeline Australia takes all reasonable steps to protect personal information it holds from loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. This includes ensuring paper files are stored securely with restricted physical access and that the services Lifeline uses meet the Australian Privacy Principles.
People who call Lifeline may be recorded unless they ask the Crisis Supporter or counsellor to stop recording their calls at the beginning of the call. The recorded information may include noises or other sounds, call duration and originating area.
When someone applies to become a volunteer with Lifeline Australia, we need their personal information for assessment purposes. This information may include contact details, employment history and criminal record checks. Lifeline volunteers are also required to participate in a regular training and review process.
It’s available 24 hours a day
Lifeline’s national helplines, 13 11 14 and 13 YARN, are accessible on phone, online and text. They are operated by a network of 41 centres and 10,000 volunteers across Australia.
Each year almost a million Australians contact Lifeline to talk about life’s challenges. The organisation has long been a key part of the nation’s crisis support and suicide prevention system.
The coronavirus pandemic has added to the volume of calls, with roughly 20 percent of callers mentioning it in their reason for calling. But for many people, it is a secondary concern after dealing with the underlying issues such as family violence, grief, or alcohol and drug problems.
With help from SVA and Today Strategic Design, Lifeline has been exploring how to expand its reach with a new service called Lifeline Text. The organisation wanted to increase access, improve outcomes for help-seekers and boost efficiency. This meant conducting a thorough human-centered research project to understand how people wanted to use the new service.
It’s a great way to make a difference
If you’re looking for a way to make a difference in the lives of others, consider volunteering as a Lifeline Crisis Supporter. This role is available 24 hours a day by phone, online, or by text. You can help people who are dealing with a variety of issues, including suicidal thoughts.
The study included a convenience sample of help-seekers who contacted Lifeline’s telephone, online chat and text message crisis services. They were asked about their expectations and outcomes. These include immediate outcomes such as a sense of relief or reduced distress and longer-term outcomes such as strategies to cope in the future.
Overall, help-seekers reported that they were satisfied with their experience with Lifeline. However, they also recognised that the organisation faces challenges. In particular, there was a high rate of suicide-related calls. This is a concern because suicide-related calls can be difficult for volunteers to deal with. This is a problem that could be addressed through training for volunteer crisis supporters.

The toll of COVID-19 on healthcare workers: Empathy fatigue and burnout
New models of care were introduced, often with little preparation or training. Staff shortages resulted from COVID isolation, and staff were moved to areas of high need in healthcare, leaving shortages in other areas. Healthcare workers also identified that a lack of support from leadership and organizational culture compromised their psychological well-being. Fatigue and clinical errors The Australian Medical Association reports that nearly half of junior doctors in NSW suffer from fatigue and exhaustion, and fatigue can put patients at risk. Of the 1,766 physicians surveyed, 76 percent reported a clinical error caused by fatigue. A US study reported that increases in physician burnout were associated with increased medical errors and worse patient outcomes. An international study revealed that nurses report ‘missed care’, ‘inappropriately timed care’ and ‘unfulfilled care’ due to excessive work demands. Australian healthcare workers have complained of fatigue during the pandemic.attributed to him:Peter Brigg When you care about others too much “Compassion fatigue” means that health care workers are unable to fulfill their roles. Compassion fatigue can result from repeated exposure to the suffering of others in highly stressful environments and constant self-giving. It leads to complete physical and emotional exhaustion, draining health care workers of their ability to adapt. Crucially, it separates them from their patients, rendering them unable to empathize and provide compassionate care. Usual coping strategies are not effective and negative coping strategies such as alcohol or drug abuse may be pursued. Ultimately, workers experience diminished satisfaction with their work and fatigue. Health care workers can relieve empathy stress by making time for themselves, enforcing work boundaries, and creating a better work-life balance. Strategies such as mindfulness meditation have proven effective. So you have employer support programs like counseling and advocacy services for organizations to provide healthy and caring workplaces. Reject the hero’s health story Empathy fatigue and burnout also occur when healthcare workers are underappreciated. During the pandemic, health care workers are increasingly portrayed as angels and heroes, seemingly able to pounce and save the day. Nurses and other health care workers have argued that this narrative is outdated and does not recognize their complex roles. Rather than giving them hero status, nurses and other health care workers are looking for opportunities to highlight the complex skills and empathy required to carry out their roles. This may be transformative for media reports, the fictional depiction of doctors and nurses on screen, and even how hospitals and health centers represent healthcare workers in recruitment and retention campaigns. Time to reevaluate The pandemic has put a sharp focus on the expected shortage of the healthcare workforce. Fatigue and fatigue are important factors. While resilience is a key protective factor — and one that health care workers are encouraged to develop — it is not sufficient. Healthcare leaders have a moral and legal obligation to ensure that all workers have access to work environments that are psychologically safe and free from violence and aggression. Adequate resources must also be made available to health so that patient care is prioritized and workloads are safe. After all, if we don’t care about our health workforce, who will? Have you ever been to a Chinatown in any of the cities you’ve been to? Yeah, I always love visiting Chinatown. I’ve been to the one in London several times and also the ones in Manchester and Melbourne.
How old was the oldest person you’ve dated? They were eight years older than me at the time.
Do you know anyone who has their own podcast? I think a couple of people do, but I have to confess I find podcasts really irritating lol. A bit like talk radio - I just don’t get the appeal of it at all.
Who is the first person under C in your phone’s contacts? How old are they? Christine. She’s in her sixties I believe - she’s just a client of mine. I sit for her dogs occasionally but I’ve not seen them since August.
Have you ever been to couple’s counseling? No.
How often does your employer ask you to work overtime? I run my own business so I pick my own hours.
What did you have for dinner last night? I just picked at snacks as I had horrendous cramps yesterday and was finding the balance between “need to eat to make the painkillers work” and “can’t eat too much or I’ll be sick” lol.
How many children do you want, and how did you decide on this number? I don’t really know if I want children anymore.
Where did your last kiss take place? In bed.
Did you often read for fun when you were a kid? Sure, I read pretty much constantly as a child.
^ What were some of your favorite books? The Peter Rabbit stories, The Babysitters’ Club, Famous Five, Mallory Towers, The Magic Faraway Tree, The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark, The Tiger who Came to Tea.
When and why did you last feel lonely? I don’t really remember, I don’t often feel lonely.
Are you more of a visual learner or an auditory learner? Visual.
Do you have any dietary restrictions? Nope.
Do you prefer Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, or something else? Google Maps.
What is your favorite coffee brand? If I’m out, Starbucks is my go-to though we don’t have one nearby. At home, I just buy the Gold brand of whatever supermarket I’m shopping in at the time> What is your favorite tea brand?  Yorkshire Tea or Twinings.
Have you ever worn false eyelashes? No.
Do you ever ‘manspread’ when you sit down? Hahah, yes. My mum always used to tell me off about that.
Which of your good habits has made the biggest positive difference in your life? Getting a dog has made the most positive difference - I know a dog isn’t a habit as such but it’s made me get out and walk which has made such a big difference.
Have you ever dated someone who was very lazy? No. That’s a real turn-off to me. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love lazy days and days where I don’t do anything ^but^ that, to me, is very different from laziness. I need to be with someone who has the motivation to clean and work and do stuff too.
Have you ever turned down a job offer? Yes, when I was at ASDA and they wanted me to be a section leader - fuck that shit, lol.
What was the last medical appointment you scheduled? A dentist appointment.
What are some of your favorite alcoholic drinks? I don’t really drink a lot, but I had a few glasses of Baileys over Christmas.
Have you ever taught an elderly relative how to use a computer or smartphone? I had to teach my dad when he retired - he wasn’t elderly but he really struggled to use a computer for a while, lol. Now he has a state-of-the-art Macbook Pro and uses it daily, lol.
Where did you get the shirt you’re wearing? I’m wearing a tank top from Rohan and a hoody from Fat Face.
How many people can be seated at your kitchen table? At the moment, two as we only have two chairs, though it could seat four.

What Should You Know Before Going to Court for a Family Intervention Order?

Among the first things the best family lawyers in Melbourne will ask you while providing first counsel is, "What is your matter filed for?" Court dates aren't the same. Your affordable family lawyers Melbourne will walk you through each of these phases in the court process and tell you what to assume during your next court date.
Be specific about what you want to get.

As an applicant, you could be requesting protection from family violence, but you would not want the other party to be forced out of the family home. Maybe you want the other person to be excluded, but you don't want them to lose contact with their children.
If you're a respondent, you might want to accede to complete the final order if you need to collect certain goods from the family home. You may also want to keep in touch with the applicant regarding child care arrangements. You must understand what you're attempting to accomplish as an applicant or respondent. The best family lawyers in Melbourne will talk to you about the best method to attain your goal.
Allow your lawyer to speak for you.
When your case is in court, it may seem natural to you to respond to any questions the magistrate may offer. So, allow your intervention order lawyer Melbourne to represent you. If your lawyer needs your advice on a specific topic, they will discreetly approach you and ask for your reply. Then it's up to your lawyer to present that material to the magistrate.

What are the Aspects of Holistic Health ?
The holistic refers to the overall health of the person. Holistic health looks beyond physical health and examines all spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional health.
Tumblr media
Who is a holistic psychologist?
The holistic psychologist Melbourne focuses on the relationship between all the aspects of holistic health and suggests treatment plans after analysing the problems in the specific area that can affect the other areas of the health.
Listing down the aspects of the holistic health
Physical
Physical health is considered to be the prime focus when people talk about health. It is because it's the physical health that reflects the signs and symptoms of being in an unhealthy state. In addition, the physical health symptoms are easy to measure and track compared to the other non-physical health symptoms that can sometimes be more dangerous for your health.
Ways to support your physical health
●       Sleep at least 8 hours every night.
●       Have a nutrient-rich diet that consists of plant-based foods and pastured animal products
●       Exercise for a 30 minutes minimum every day
Emotional:
We often overlook emotional well-being, whereas emotional health is as important as the person's physical health. Especially because physical health is mostly affected by emotional health if not prioritized. This is when you most need the holistic couples therapy for counseling or therapy for supporting your emotional health.
Ways to keep up with your emotional health

Social:
It has been observed and researched that the happiest people on earth have a happy and deep relationship with their family, friends, and community. This is why religion is mostly associated with happiness as it offers acceptance in the community and supports no matter what faith the person has chosen.
Ways to support your social health
Take out time for the in-person connection as the virtual connection does not satisfy you like an in-person connection.
Try to participate in your community, whether it is by going to the church or involving yourself as a volunteer in local clubs.
Spiritual:

Mental
Mental health is the last aspect of mental health, often associated with physical and emotional health. The main difference between mental and emotional health is that emotional health is related to daily moods and emotions. Ways for supporting your mental health-

General And Drug Addiction Counselling
When people become addicted to a substance or activity, it often results from the need or wish to reduce emotional stress and physical pain. Many people are familiar with common addictions such as alcohol dependency or drug abuse, but other addictions include shopping, internet use, gambling, sex or pornography.
In general, people have habit-forming tendencies to a certain degree – but some people are more susceptible to addiction, which can often be due to contact with an environment of substance abuse, experiencing mental health issues or hereditary factors. Most people with addiction-related issues require professional assistance to break free from addictive patterns and cycles of behaviour, which is where counselling can be of assistance. Whether patients need drug addiction counselling or alcohol addiction counselling in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney or Brisbane, it’s important they talk to someone they trust and feel comfortable with Life Resolutions.
What are some classic addiction symptoms?
Ignoring domestic or business-related responsibilities
Relationship deterioration directly resulting from addictive behaviour
A lack of ability to stop or reduce addictive behaviour, often accompanied by unsuccessful attempts
Distress or irritability accompanying a lack of substance use (withdrawal) and feelings of normality when use is resumed
Requiring increasing amounts of the substance to achieve noticeable effects
Scheduling commitments and one’s life around periods of using
Not being able to function or cope with day-to-day life without the substance
Addiction treatment
Quite often, addictions can be a result of emotional issues that need to be resolved. Without acknowledgement and resolution, these problems and their subsequent addictions can increase in severity, destroying relationships and any quality of life in Life Resolutions.
As part of the general and drug addiction counselling process, a psychologist’s main concern is determining the cause of your addiction and the trigger points for addiction- and relapse-related behaviour. They will also work to help you take control over your addiction, so it does not end up controlling you. These steps can include identifying and ending addictive patterns, becoming familiar with coping strategies that help to manage day-to-day stress, and altering negative thought patterns. These effective techniques are part of the treatment process for drug addiction counselling, general addiction assistance and alcohol addiction counselling.

"Alcohol Interlock Victoria" is the name of a treatment program, a 12-step program designed to help people break free from alcohol and their dependencies upon it. This program was previously held by Alcoholics Anonymous. The name has changed recently due to some complaints that A.A. had received.
The organization held regular group meetings where people were able to share their feelings and experiences. The program attempted to work through each one of the issues that group members had in common. Through these meetings, members were able to express their fears and to gain new skills for facing their future with sobriety. The meetings also served to strengthen relationships among members and to show people what options they had outside of the traditional alcohol industry. These meetings helped make the group more effective.
The program was originally held weekly but later became monthly because it was felt that it was not helping everyone effectively. Members felt that if they were only meeting once a month, that there was less motivation to continue the program. Members did not want to miss out on the group meetings that were so important to them. So the monthly meetings were held at times when the group could be together. In addition, it was convenient for everyone.
Over the years, several changes have been made to the program. Many of the group meetings are now held at the beginning and end of the program instead of before or after. Also, many people have found that the more social interaction they have during their transitional period, the better their chances at breaking the habit.
There are two parts to the Alcohol Interlock Victoria program. One part teaches people to create and maintain an alcohol free lifestyle. The other part of the program helps develop skills for dealing with alcohol in the future. In addition, the Alcohol Interlock Victoria program helps people understand the relationship between alcohol and depression.
In order to begin the program, there are some standards that must be met. First, an individual must agree that they are willing to make a commitment to sobriety. Then, they must attend an alcohol treatment center. If all of these requirements are met, then the person will be accepted into the program and treated for alcohol addiction.
When someone completes the alcohol interlock program, they are then considered to have completed their alcohol treatment. Most programs offer follow-up services for those that complete the program. These services can include one-on-one counseling or family therapy. This follow-up service can be extremely beneficial as alcoholics need to talk about the impact of their addiction. They can talk to trusted friends or family members to help them see that it is not worth it.
The Victorian Interlock Victoria program is one of many alcohol treatment programs available in the greater Melbourne area. It is a great program for people who need to receive alcohol treatment. Although treatment may take place at a specific alcohol treatment center, it can sometimes be done at home. Before starting any alcohol treatment program, it is important to speak to a doctor.
There are several factors that go into a person's decision to enter an alcohol treatment program. The first is often financial. Most people who are struggling with alcohol abuse do not have steady income. For these people, the cost of alcohol treatment can really put a strain on the household budget. For this reason, many alcoholics search for programs that offer financing options.
Next, a person who wants to quit drinking has to develop a strong sense of self-discipline. Having self-discipline is very important when it comes to giving up alcohol. Without this sense of self-discipline, the person has little chance of successfully quitting. After a person quits drinking, they need to make sure that they stay away from alcohol. They should avoid social situations where alcohol will be present.
Another important factor that goes into quitting drinking is getting physical support. Many times, alcoholics do not feel comfortable expressing their feelings to a close friend or family member. If someone close to the person understands and supports them, they may feel better about telling their story to someone else. In some cases, friends or family members may begin to participate in the person's recovery efforts. This step makes the person feel better about themselves and can make them feel less guilty about their drinking.
The treatment process for people who are suffering from alcoholism-based problems such as alcoholism interlock Victoria does not have one set of requirements. Each patient is assessed to determine what type of help would work best for them. Each patient then receives individualized treatment plans based on their individual needs. A treatment plan may include some sort of residential alcohol rehabilitation program, group therapy, or some combination of these elements. Alcohol interlock at Victoria should be considered only as a last option.

FixedIt: Focus on perpetrators was the announcement
Tumblr media
Melbourne’s lockdown increases the risk of family violence and the Victorian government this week announced $21.4M in funding for services focused on perpetrators.
The announcement was not telling victims (primarily women) to leave. It was telling perpetrators(primarily men) to leave. The statement from the Premier could not have been clearer: “[we are] directing more than $20 million to keep more family violence victim survivors safe in their own homes – and keep perpetrators in full sight.”
The money is funding alternative accommodation for people committing violence and giving more resources to Men’s Referral Services, which recorded a 90% increase in calls in the first lockdown and a further 11% at the start of the second lockdown.
With this headline Nine News erased the focus on perpetrators of violence and moved it to the people who suffer the violence. It’s implicit victim blaming. It reinforces the “why doesn’t she leave?” myth that says women are responsible for ending violence they did not start and did not choose.
Why doesn’t she leave? Because she’s terrified. Because a violent, controlling, intimidating man has groomed her to accept his abuse as her due. Because she doesn’t think anyone will believe her or can help her. Demanding she take responsibility for ending the violence is like demanding a person hit by a drunk driver take responsibility for the driver’s alcohol consumption.
Why doesn’t she leave is the wrong question. Why does he stay is what we should be asking.
The Premier reiterated that if you are unsafe and need to leave your home you will not be fined for any breach of lockdown. This is not a new announcement. Funding to get perpetrators to leave was the point of the story.
