lover thoughts:
i forgot that you existed:
cruel summer: 5/5
' "i love you," ain't that the worst thing you ever heard?'
i'm actually so not normal about this song. every time i tell myself i've gotten over it, i listen to it again and literally start thrumming on the spot. cruel summer will always have a place in my heart above all other songs bc it's what got me listening to the rest of taylor's songs. it gives me a lot of forbidden love/one sided love pining vibes, two of my favourite tropes. the bridge is so fun to scream to, it's such a summer song, and it just slaps differently. will never not be good to me tbh, it doesn't deserve ANY hate
lover: 4.25/5
'have i known you twenty seconds, or twenty years?'
the one and only title track. it embodies the full album so well, and is just such a masterpiece. i usually don't like the title tracks of taylor's albums as much as the others, however lover is probably the only exception. every time this song plays, you just think of THAT person. beautiful. the only reason i haven't given this song 5/5 is because sometimes i MIGHT skip lover if i've had a bad day or just not in the mood- basically it's not a song that uplifts you or can be played whenever. on the other hand i gave it an extra 0.25 because of the live performance of lover the first show after the breakup was announced officially- seeing the opposite and sad side of that song which i had never even thought about made me love this song so much more
the man: 4/5
'when everyone believes ya, what's that like?'
I SIMPLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS SONG GETS SO MUCH HATE?? it's such a bop, and i can only dream of angry singing this with a huge crowd with thousands of other girls. it's the perfect angry iconic song, and i can't remember ever skipping it. also the blazers and silver + red bottomed shoes from the eras tour are so iconic. again, i can't think of a negative element of this song except that i don't think it directly links to the main theme of the album, however it still somehow fits. i also like how the lyrics aren't saying that all men lie, cheat, are narcissistic, etc but instead how people disregard these things ONLY when they're done by men, however accuse women of these same things
the archer: 1.5/5
'screaming, who could ever leave me, darling? but who could stay?'
listen. i can't like this song, and i have genuinely tried. i'm not sure what it is, maybe the constant repetition of the same lyrics (but i understand that was done deliberately to create a certain effect). one thing i can give it credit for, however, is that i think the lyrics and the beat convey exactly the message and emotions she wanted it to convey. but yeah. i'm not particularly partial to many of the track fives either. also don't attack me but i've been waiting for this to be cut from the setlist forever BUT another thing i can give it credit for is the iconic 'the archer' pose
i think he knows: 4.75/5
'he's so obsessed with me, and boy i understand- boy i understand'
again, another underrated bop. tbh i never took much interest in this song, but a few weeks back i heard it for the first time in a while and it just went so hard. the clicking beat in the back (listen, i don't know my musical terms), the LYRICS, the implications of the song contrasting the kinda upbeat happy-go-lucky sound of it is just so good and quite unlike taylor's usually style. also, one thing she doesn't do enough in her song's that i'm OBSESSED with is singing particular lyrics in such a way that you can hear her expressions (like the cheeky smile you can hear in the lyric i wrote above, and in 'it's like i'm seventeen no-one understand, no-one understands'), and because she does this TWICE in one song makes it so precious to me. idk i'm just such a i think he knows defender it's so slept on
miss americana and the heartbreak prince: 3.75/5
'boys will be boys then, where are the wise men?'
THIS SONG IS SO GOOD. like to me this song has always been the embodiment of taylor and just the journey she's been through and everything that's happened along the way (even though it doesn't explicitly mention anything, but that's just the vibes it gives me). opening the eras tour with this song was such a good choice that tbh i never expected, but yeah. again, the hate for this song is so unsolicited like... the only reason i haven't given this song a higher score is because it's a great song, but when compared to the rest of the album, it's not one of my tops.
paper rings: 3.75/5
'i hate accidents except when we went from friends to this'
WHY SO MUCH HATE FOR SUCH A CUTE SONG?? this song is so fun and i love listening to paper rings sped up to practically rap to it 😭😭 it literally embodies the friends to lovers trope so well, and it's so FUN i honestly don't understand the hate. it was actually one of the first songs from lover that i listened to. again, the only reason this isn't ranked higher is because this would definitely be in my top ten lover songs, but not top five. also, like lover, sometimes you're just angry or sad and this is definitely NOT the song for those sort of moods
cornelia street: 5/5
'and baby, i get mystified by how this city screams your name'
I DESPISE MY PAST SELF FOR INITIALLY NOT LIKING THIS SONG. i could go on and on about cornelia street for hours, it's the perfect mix of bittersweet and a cute love song. tbh, i've always considered it a sweet song until i saw the performance of when she did it acoustic as a surprise song, and girl was ANGRY (if there's something anyone should know about my ts preferences, is that i am OBSESSED with her angry performances- they give songs so much more meaning and offer a very different perspectives to songs in some cases), and ever since then i've only ever seen it as a resentful and reminiscing breakup song. also i've only just realised after listening to cornelia street and false god back to back that she says 'i get mystified by how this city screams your name' and in false god she says 'i'm new york city'... ughhh i will never get over this song
death by a thousand cuts: 2.5/5
'my heart, my hips, my body, my love, trying to find a part of me that you didn't touch'
again, this song is so great but i feel like it doesn't resonate with me as much as it does with others. like yes i will sing along (and scream the bridge, bc it carries the whole song in my opinion) but i would much rather listen to something else off of lover. but i can definitely see myself coming to love this song so much if i put the effort in, but to be perfectly honest i have not done that 😭😭
london boy: 4.25/5
'show me a grey sky, a rainy cab ride, babe don't threaten me with a good time'
yet again. why so much hate for such a cute song?? it captures the feeling of being in love so well, and it's just so upbeat and fun. also, after the breakup and 'so long, london', it hits so different and in a good way tbh. it was also one of the first songs from lover that i genuinely would never skip, and for that reason i listened to it too much (which is why i didn't rank it a little higher). london boy is such a bop and i will never be convinced otherwise
soon you'll get better:
false god: 5/5
'and you can't talk to me when i'm like this, daring you to leave me just so i can try and scare you'
everyone and their MOTHER knows how obsessed i am with this song. i will never, ever get sick of it and it's so slept on!! why does everyone always rank it so low?? the jazzy saxophone, the outro, the metaphors, everything about this song just slaps so hard. definitely in my top five ts songs out of all her albums, i just love it so much. no words for this song except for perfection. taylor really ate with this and only few can recognise it, i really wish she would write more false god/so it goes/i don't wanna live forever/dress-esque songs
you need to calm down: 3.25/5
'and we see you over there on the internet, comparing all the girls who are killing it'
this song is honestly such a bop and fine to vibe to but again... compared to other songs on lover it would not be ranked very high. the bridge is so fun tho and her expressions she makes during singing the bridge at the eras tour are so fun. also i more often than not find myself skipping it but at the same time i do find myself craving it. also the 'idon'twannamesswithyourselfexpression' part is so fun to rap to fr
afterglow: 4.5/5
'this ultraviolet morning light below, tell me this love is worth the fight, oh'
i don't think afterglow is AS underrated as some others, but i feel like it's really overshadowed by daylight. the 'woah's and 'oh's in this song are SO GOOD, and the lyrics are just out of this world. tbh i've only really started being obsessed with this song recently, but it's genuinely such a banger. the performance of it at the eras tour was SO GOOD, genuinely made me want to cry. it's kind of like cornelia street, in the sense that it initially sounds like a sweet, yearning love song but is really just 'you're losing me' prior to the realisation that a relationship needs effort from both sides to make it work...
me!: 3/5
'and when we had that fight out in the rain, you ran after me and called my name'
I WILL ALWAYS DEFEND THIS SONG. it's so fun and upbeat, and (i think?) one of the few songs which highlight individuality and being different. i don't understand the hate for it, and it's genuinely disappointing to see how some people reacted to having me as a surprise song at the eras tour- i can sympathise with not liking the song, but being downright annoyed or angry is unjustified. i feel like if people genuinely tried to like it, they could- also, i think i feel like it's a 'thing' now where people just hate me! only because everyone else does, because in some comments sections you'll find EVERYONE defending it and in others EVERYONE absolutely slamming it
it's nice to have a friend: 3.25/5
'light pink sky up on the roof, sun sinks down, no curfew'
again, underrated and slept on. i like the 'ooh's throughout the whole song, it makes it sound so nostalgic and makes you miss something that you never had. i love the platonic aspect of this song as well as the undertones of friends to lovers- it's one of those songs that will never be uninteresting. the only reason i have not ranked it higher is yet again, there are other songs on lover that i would choose over inthaf any day
daylight: 3.75/5
'i don't wanna look at anything else now that i saw you'
this would probably be a little higher however afterglow really outdoes this song for me (idk why but i've always associated these two songs together 😭😭. however i will say this bridge was written so well, however i'm not sure if i like the key change in the bridge, i prefer the lower (again, forgive my lack of technical terms ejhdbjwh) pitch/tone she sings the rest of the song in. but i do like the fact that this is the last track of the album, i think it really fits and is just such a great conclusion to the whole thing, and the whole idea about there being 'daylight' after a 'dark night' and how that parallels that this song is the last on lover.

2023 Year End List - #9
Tumblr media
Paper Cut From The Obit - Celestaphone
Main Genres: Jazz Rap, Experimental Rap, Abstract Rap
A decent sampling of: Jazz-Funk, Psychedelic Soul, Conscious Rap, Jazz-Rock, Disco Rap, Progressive Rock
Counting down the list with yet another weird ass hip hop album, and there's still two more to go after this one, so strap in.
Celestaphone is the project of American rapper/producer Joseph Murphy. The guy raps in the way I might imagine the Joker (no, not that one, the OG one) would sound if he was whacked out on some really hefty stimulants and also an IT tech guy who plays D&D.
The dude's self-portrayal is so goofy and non-threatening that it makes some of the frankly insane abstract rap ramblings go down a lot smoother. Actually, I'm kind of obsessed with his persona - I would play the hell out of a video game staring this character.
According to his Spotify bio (Look, the guy hasn't done a whole lot of interviews), Joseph grew up around total music nerds, listening to Madvillain, Frank Zappa (checks out), and Kate Bush from an early age. And there is certainly a lot of evidence of a musically colourful mind on this latest project of his.
As far as I'm concerned, Paper Cut From The Obit is probably just the unhinged setlist of an in-house live jazz band meant to be playing for the rejected late night show that got cancelled for blatant sacrilege, put to record. Sound-wise, I think Celestaphone might've just invented "prog rap" on this thing, what with the virtuosic, ambitious jazz-funk production and clear prog rock influence, combined with sudden changes in rhythm that keeps me on the edge of my seat (if I'm not already up shaking my ass to the funk rhythms).
Also, just a silly little tip I discovered the other night - playing this while rolling around in Liberty City, speeding down the wrong side of the street is a whole aesthetic moment and the closest I've felt to being invincible in a while.
The jerky organized piano jazz rap chaos of "Jettatura" is disorienting. Feels like banging my head and seeing stars in a seedy jazz club in a city I'm completely unfamiliar with. Completely twisted magic.
"Small World" is a lyrical masterclass, plain and simple - maybe my favourite bars of the year. Musically, I'm getting vivid images of bouncy animated skyscrapers and blinding camera flashes and bright ass flood lights. "Imagine you looked at a tree just the way you look at your penis" is the most hilarious lyric of 2023.
"Tops Turvy" is a mix of classic funky clavinet and a plush, organic jazz beat that feels hella comfy. Floating up on the top cloud in a technical dreamy funk heaven, while giggling with the devil himself as Celestaphone pokes fun at the promises and overzealous claims of organized religion.
The instrumental "Chitauri Chip" is a glittering and mythical jazz-rock, dancing the flickers of an old and sacred flame. Has some desert-wandering merchant energy in the general vastness and mystery of its central riff, plus those golden brown acoustic guitar chimes shimmering like treasure in the sun's massive rays.
Also, would ya look at that? Surprise Armand Hammer feature on the more chilled-out "Tithes", along with underground avant-garde rapper sensation Moor Mother. Funny, I wonder if one of them Armand Hammer dudes is gonna appear one more time on a different entry in this list (hint hint). Incidentally, another one of the best moments on this highly leftfield record.
"Babies" is simultaneously one of the strangest choices for an album closer I've ever heard and exactly how an artist like Celestaphone would choose to end a record. It's, well, it's an ode to babies. There's elements of satire but also he's making a pretty good case for baby supremacy. That twangy guitar solo throughout the whole thing just accents how utterly crazy this guy is. I wouldn't have had it ending in any other way. A comical stroke of genius.
There is one or two tracks I would omit in the mid section, and the sequencing could've been spread out more seeing as how nearly every major highlight is on either end of this 16 track powerhouse. But still, enough of this is balls-to-the-wall crazy and infectious that I don't mind that it's got a longer run tracklisting-wise, and at only 43 minutes total runtime, no song every overstays it's welcome.
Yeah, honestly I'm mostly totally impressed by this record. Between all of the ambition displayed here and the major underground names he's collaborating with, it's really not a matter of if but when this guy blows up.
Paper Cut From The Obit is one of the most creative records I listened to in 2023, and nearly every second of it is teeming with mad scientist energy thanks to Joseph's immense presence as an MC and his immaculate taste in sexy fucking retro jazz beats. I'll have whatever this guys having, thank you very much - dude's got it all figured out.
9/10
Highlights: "Small World", "Tops Turvy", "Chitauri Chip", "Tithes", "They All Con It", "Jettatura", "Babies", "Erfurt Latrine", "Paintings of Panspermia"

cover art/print for the awesome Pat Pedraza's punk song for scara ⚡️⚡️⚡️BOW YOUR HEAD⚡️⚡️⚡️
keep an eye out for his signings if you want this scara stomping on your walls
the lyric video is really fun, make sure you check out the whole thing on his youtube and listen to the song on spotify 🕺
design notes: i looked up some punk album covers for inspiration and went for a poppy color palette to reflect the energy of the song. i love working with colors but it can be hard to control sometimes with readability because of all the competing elements haha, colors took the most time to decide. i think it looks really good as the little song icon!
for the punk elements, i did this magazine paper cut out effect for the title by changing letters to different fonts and moving them around, then drawing over to mess up the edges. i also put ripped paper where he's kicking a hole through the poster, referencing his burst
i wanted to break up the solid area at the bottom of his shoe, so i put the electro symbol for scara to step on whenever he walks. rebellion ‼️‼️‼️🦅🦅🦅🦅

Lover as an album having astonishing sales longevity in addition to Cruel Summer becoming her current most streamed song is really cementing to me that that album could’ve been huge with better promotion, or more specifically with a better lead single. People clearly like this album a lot despite it not being a huge fan favorite, plus there’s a ton of absolutely excellent songs scattered within it. It absolutely could’ve ruled 2019 and maybe even 2020 but alas.

she is so funny and so obvious wit it - half of lover is lover, paper rings and the other half is death by a thousand cuts, i’ll never walk cornelia street again.. followed by the next era and a half where all she wrote was divorce, divorce, i wish i could’ve loved you as a kid so you could live in my memories forever, divorce, i loved you like a husband loves a wife but my parents are DIVORCED. thennnn comes along lavender haze and taylor’s like “you guys thought i wanted to get married??!!!??”
taylor is actually the funniest girl on earth for styling the lover bridge like wedding vows and also putting out paper rings, and then dropping lavender haze a few years later all “why the FUCK do you guys think i want to get married 😠”

OUR CUTE BOYFRIENDS HEADCANONS - LnD
notes: requests are opened so you can ask me to write anything. and yes anon i had a great day, thanks for asking 😘
contains: zayne, rafayel, xavier x reader headcanons
Tumblr media
ZAYNE
he definitely puts his arms around your waist and kiss you on the forehead or temple.
he can cook! he just doesn’t have time to make you something, so when he does you know it’s a special occasion.
one of his love languages is acts of service. he also loves spending his time with you.
he’s obviously attractive, but he doesn’t know how much.
he will have a mini rant every day when you two are cuddling about medicine and fun facts.
he loves husky’s and wants one.
he takes care of you when are you sick, and exaggerates a lot when you are hurt (not a mission, but a paper cut or something)
RAFAYEL
he hates waiting so he puts you to get ready and hour before him. he also chooses your outfit.
he is the type to bring a bag of candy and other sweet treats to your house with a note after a mission gone wrong. (“my love is in there” - the note says)
he needs cuddles 24/7 but in the same time he tells you that you should probably go to work (he doesn’t let go of your waist).
if you want pets you will have a fish. he doesn’t like cats or dogs, saying that “cats are little monsters” and “dogs steal your attention and that it’s just mine”.
he calls you all sorts of silly nicknames and in return you call him “ariel”.
his sensitive spot is his neck. he let’s you give him hickeys all over it. he makes then on you too.
you will be his muse. he is going to paint you so much that you were bored of seeing your face all around the house. he will try to convince you to pose nude for him too (you refused… maybe 😏)
XAVIER
you two will train together and he would always let you win saying that you are too powerful for him.
he would love to dress in matching outfits. you would have to pick them tho.
he gets jealous if you spend time with someone new or if you go to another mission with someone else.
he would take a lot of pictures of you and make a whole album on his phone to see when he is missing you.
he doesn’t hide the fact that he is staring at you, instead he smiles when you catch him.
he would whine when you put your cold hands in his warm ones but whenever you try to pull them away he shoves them into his pocket.
loves you so much that is willing to give everything up just to be with you.

Tom Blyth being really fucking obsessed with actress!Reader, like constant physical contact, many kisses, maybe some moments on set? I love your writing 💖
"Oh, the lovebirds."
pairing: tom blyth x actress!reader.
summary: another compilation between you and tom? we have!
word count: 538!
notes: thank you for requesting this, anon and i hope you know that i love you and beg you to request more ideas!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"See them over there?" — Recording and switching the camera to frontal mode, Rachel pointed to you and Tom sitting under the tree, in the forest setting, together. — "Two lovebirds in love." — Tom's arm was around your shoulder, he was saying something that was, technically, impossible to identify, but then he left a long kiss on your forehead. — "Look!"
Rachel saved that video with a triumphant, happy smile on her face in an album she had made specifically for behind the scenes and it was the thousandth video of you and Tom that she had saved. — The first and biggest fan of both of you.
It wasn't difficult, and not at all complicated, to find behind-the-scenes photos of 'The ballad of songbirds and snakes'; so soon, it wasn't hard to see photos and videos of you and Tom together on set. — So much for you posting and Rachel too.
There were videos where he put Coriolanus' peacemaker helmet on you; your hands between his rough and cut hair, commenting on the possibility of him temporarily turning blonde;; a photo they took of him and him lying on the grass. — Several moments recorded, captured and saved with lots of love.
Also, the small and peculiar fact that you left written messages or just heart symbols on paper, sometimes torn up, for each other. — Hunter thought this was cute, and she even helped Tom put one of them in your trailer.
In every interview, to repeat, in every interview, Tom always tries to be in contact with you; mainly, the physical. — It doesn't matter if your chair is a little far from his, or if you or he are on the other side of the row. — Nothing can stop that man.
The cameras record, with attention and great focus, Tom holding your hand while you answered questions from the interviewer, who was also watching, and admiring the rings that were present on your fingers; and that some were gifts from him. — If Tom had the opportunity, he would never let go of you.
He contemplated carefully; distributing affection with his fingers on your hand and your palm, at certain moments, even tickling you and, sometimes during the interviews, a brief laugh accompanied your words.
And every time it happens, that passionate smile wrapped in such a strong emotion curves on Blyth's lips.
Well, it's not just the contacts and touches between your hands that are captured by cameras and the watchful eyes of fans; Tom's arm resting on the back of your chair, your leg touching his, your head on his shoulder and once again Tom's hand resting on your knee. — You looked like a pair of magnets.
Oh, and not to mention, a moment from an interview, another one from Vogue to be a little specific, in which Tom removes one of the rings that was on his fingers, the one that is always on his pinky, and decided to put it on your finger. — God, your fans went completely crazy on all social media, especially on Twitter. — It wasn't so perfect, in the right measure, but you didn't remove it in any way.
During the premieres, several photos with you kissing Tom's cheek and him kissing your hand, like a knight, spread across networks and even on the film's official accounts. — And Rachel commented on all of them. — And the photos that show Tom's hands on your waist, holding you so gently accompanied by such a sweet and intimate look and following you wherever you went became your favorites.
Flashes and snippets of interviews, videos of Tom's hand on your back, helping you with your long dress and him brushing some locks out of your face while you answered questions. — Even the interviewers smiled witnessing those acts.
And there's always a like from Tom Blyth on Instagram posts of these photos.
