Happy 30th Birthday to RID OF ME by the one, the only PJ Harvey

Wow.. I’m just having a flashback to hearing this record for the first time. I was in college and was going through this period where I was exploring all the OG bad bitches in Rock and Alternative in the early-late 90s.

My thing when I was working through listening to 90s babes etc was that I was looking for all the artists who sounded unique and did not sound derivative. I wanted to find women who spoke to my soul that really expressed themselves in a particular way. I kept thinking to myself that I’d know the sound when I heard it and then I heard Rid of Me — the title track and felt like I’d found what I was looking for.

It was after that that I fell down a pretty deep PJ Harvey rabbit hole. I’ve played this record 1000x since I’ve heard it and it has this distinct magic quality about it. Also, it’s incredibly poetic and strong and funny and critical and thoughtful. I love it. Rid of Me is my third fave PJ HARVEY record tho. Maybe 4th.. now that I’ve heard her entire catalogue, which is extensive and absolutely brilliant. Check out this incredible live video of her killing Rid of Me.

We’re celebrating a few other cool album birthdays today too.. some with deep memories that I won’t get into but that I was like hey: I remember where I was or that release, that year etc.

Rae Sremmurd got really expansive with this record they got in their Outkast bag where they both tried to do their own thing with a record each and then come together for a record and I really enjoyed the experimentation.

Deftones gave us an experience with Diamond Eyes 13 years ago.

I remember the live show for this record, we made some new friends and it was an evening for the BOOKS! It was a memory that will last. Sextape is still one of my fave Deftones cuts also there are so many gems on this record. Like this entire second segment of the record was perfect, sequenced perfectly, incredible lyrics, an incredible cover. Perfection. Happy 13th birthday!

Broken Social Scene released Forgiveness Rock Record 13 years ago too.

All I’ll say about this record is: Sweetest Kill. Trust me, Sweetest Kill!!!!

Lastly, an old ass hip hop record my good friend put me on because he was obsessed with it. The Album by Mantronix.

38 years old!!! A stone cold release. Happy Bday to that record too.
