Alhambra, Generalife & Albayzin
Embark with me on a virtual odyssey to the city of Granada, Spain, where the UNESCO World Heritage Site encompasses the enchanting Alhambra, the mesmerizing Generalife, and the historic Albayzin. This trio forms a masterpiece that weaves together centuries of Moorish artistry, botanical beauty, and the winding streets of a medieval quarter.
Marvel at the splendor of Alhambra, a fortress-palace that stands as an epitome of Nasrid architecture. Intricate stucco work, stunning tile mosaics, and serene courtyards adorn this architectural gem, transporting visitors to a bygone era of Moorish grandeur.
Explore the Nasrid Palaces within Alhambra, where each room tells a story of refinement and opulence. The Court of the Lions, the Hall of the Ambassadors, and the Generalife Pavilion are among the highlights that showcase the skillful fusion of art, science, and nature.
Wander through the Generalife Gardens, a botanical paradise that captivates the senses. Terraced landscapes, vibrant flowerbeds, and the mesmerizing Patio de la Acequia create a serene retreat, offering respite and inspiration to those who traverse its paths.
Step into the labyrinthine streets of Albayzin, where the legacy of Moorish architecture and culture perseveres. Whitewashed houses, cobblestone alleys, and panoramic viewpoints provide a glimpse into the daily life of this historic quarter.
Ascend to the Mirador de San Nicolás for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Alhambra against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada. As the sun sets, the fortress-palace is bathed in a warm glow, creating a spectacle that captures the essence of Granada.
Granada's Alhambra, Generalife, and Albayzin were collectively designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. The inscription recognizes their cultural and historical significance, celebrating the enduring legacy of Al-Andalus and the fusion of Islamic and Western cultural influences.
Immerse yourself in the passionate rhythms of Flamenco, a cultural tradition deeply rooted in Granada. The Sacromonte Caves serve as an intimate venue where Flamenco artists captivate audiences with their heartfelt performances.
In conclusion, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Alhambra, Generalife, and Albayzin invites us to traverse the corridors of history, where the echoes of Moorish artistry and cultural fusion resonate. When you're ready for a virtual exploration of architectural marvels and botanical delights, Granada promises to captivate and inspire. 🕌🌺🇪🇸

An unforgettable, different, unique experience. In excellent company I got to know the Al Hawa Tea Shop, on the famous street of tea shops whose real name is Calle de la Calderería Nueva, in the heart of Granada, in the emblematic Albayzin neighborhood, nicknamed Little Marrakech, which in my view can also be be Baghdad, Damascus, Amman, Jerusalem or Cairo. Pastries, Arabic sweets, natural juices and a freshly served steaming cup of tea or infusion are an excellent plan for any time of the day, especially for an afternoon snack or a late-night evening. The attention, the exquisiteness of its sweets and the quality of its teas make Al Hawa a very special experience.

Islamic arts: Western Islamic art: Moorish.. The palace and grounds!!
The Alhambra is situated in a locale of rare natural beauty. The plateau upon which it was built overlooks the Albaicín (Albayzin) quarter of Granada’s Moorish old city. At the base of the plateau, the Darro River flows through a deep ravine on the north. The park outside the palace (Alameda de la Alhambra) was planted by the Moors with roses, oranges, and myrtles. Its most characteristic feature, however, is the dense wood of English elms brought there in 1812 by the duke of Wellington during the Peninsular War.

Stop 2: Granada, Spain
After a 3 hour train trip from Seville we made it to Granada! This city was a little bit faster paced and had lots of people out doing thing all the time which we liked. With not a lot of time we hit the ground running and did all we could! The spa day in the middle though was much needed and rejuvenated us to keep going. Our Airbnb was right near the center of town and so close to everything we needed.
Places we went:
Alhambra
Plaza Nueva
Albayzin Neighborhood
Hammam Granada Spa
Sacromonte museum and neighborhood
Sierra Nevada Tour
Basilica de San Juan de Dios
Night adventure tour of the city
On to the next!

Night at the moorish fortress The Alhambra fortress, "The red one" as its name translate, is a formidable building and part of the former royal palace. The larger palace complex stretches over most of the Sabika hill, an outcrop of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It gives a great outlook and easy defendable position for the Granada city and surroundings. Built in its current version in 1238CE after the fall of the Cordoba emirate to the north, its site had fortifications and buildings dating back centuries. The Nasrid emirate lasted until the newly unified Spanish kingdom conquered in the 1490s. It was the last moorish andalusian kingdom in Iberia. It was at this new Spanish royal court Christopher Columbus got his royal approval to go west with his 3 ships of prison inmates. And accidentally rediscover the American continent for Europe. Alhambra fall into disrepair after the Spanish reneissance. But it was saved by the birth of tourism. After the french napoleonic campaigns, were Alhambra was part of the massive pointless destruction by the french in Spain, scientists and early tourist explorers told about the splendid palace in Sierra Nevada. The fortress, palace and surrounding medieval city got popular, was cleaned up and renovated and later added to the Unesco list of World Cultural Heritage. As a name, it is written and pronounced several ways:The Alhambra, [/ælˈhæmbrə/], Spanish: [aˈlambɾa]; Arabic: الْحَمْرَاء, romanized: Al-Ḥamrāʾ, pronounced [alħamˈraːʔ]. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhambra #nightphotography #architecture #moorish #medieval #castle #fortress #albayzin #village #2011CE #hill #worldculturalheritage #islam #art (at Granada La Alhambra Y El Albaicin) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbif1D9gj1v/?utm_medium=tumblr
