Anon, I do hope you realize how many options you have left open.

But out of Hetch, Leshy, Habit, The Beast, Albatross, and Shadow Bonnie, the wheel of names chose Hetch, so here I go! (This post will lean into a more morally gray version of Hetch, if you want something different just ask!)

So, I decided on the name Hatchscratch! "Hatch" has connections to plotting, planning, and creating a plot, and "scratch" is connected to wounds, etching, writing, and pain.

In my previous post about FAtWWLi, (WC Genloss), I mentioned something about the employees being the gifted and the controlled. Hatchscratch falls into the first category. The Founder gifted Hatchscratch a few powers, and in exchange, Hatchscratch works for him for.....he's forgotten, honestly.

The whole mountain warps for the entertainment of The Founder, and Hatchscratch is part of it. He's the ideas man, the scriptwriter. Whenever Crashmask, Snowsight, Slimepool, or anybody really is onscreen, Hatchscratch is always behind the 'camera', directing the employees.

This means he has a large part in the blood, gore, and death. He hates himself for some of it and is numb to the rest, but still doesn't want to die. As The Founder is a powerful being, if Hatchscratch attempted rebellion, he would inevitably have caused his own death or worse. So, for now, he's helpless.

Hatchscratch has minor time-warping powers, view-giving (letting someone see from another point of view), he can cast a 'bubble of silence', and a weak ability connected to the transformation of others

And finally, here’s my entry for @forduary week 4: Gravity Falls and Beyond. I decided to be a little self-indulgent and chose my favorite bird for this last prompt, the chickadee! So here’s Ford relaxing post-series with a Chestnut-Backed Chickadee, which is a Chickadee species native to the Pacific Northwest. I like to think that during the summers when he’s not sailing with Stan, Ford takes the time to go on solo hikes and relax in nature. He deserves to take things slow for once in his life. I will admit, this is my backup idea for week 4. The original plan was to draw Stan and Ford out at sea with an Albatross, since that bird has a lot of significance to sailors. However I definitely did not have enough time to learn how to draw the ocean AND ships, so I went with a much simpler concept instead. Maybe I’ll get around to drawing my original idea when I have more time. All that said, I’m really proud of myself for finishing all four weeks of Forduary this year, and I had a lot of fun drawing birds for each prompt. My ornithology class has been really interesting so far, so it’s been nice to play around creatively with what I’ve been learning.

if you had to guess purely on vibes, what order do you think the ttpd and anthology songs were written?

i know you said just based on vibes but i wanted all of my opinions to be researched and defensible so this has taken me hours to write. most of these are still opinions though!!

2022/Early 2023: i'm guessing she was mostly working with aaron on new stuff this year, while her and jack were building instrumental tracks and stems, so they could streamline writing while she was on tour if she wanted to. i'm also guessing she did 1989 tv early in 2022 and speak now tv that winter, but that's mostly based on vibes.

UNKNOWN: Clara Bow, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus (i could see this being recorded later in spring 2023, but it just sounds so 2022 to me), I Hate It Here, I Look in People's Windows (could easily be a post mh breakup song, but this is my list), Cassandra Dec 2022: Instrumentals for Fresh Out The Slammer, Florida!!!, and Guilty As Sin are recorded in New Orleans (FOTS and Florida were confirmed to have their vocals recorded in New York) Apr 12, 2023: Taylor is photographed at Electric Lady, then Aaron shows up to all three of her eras dates in Tampa (Apr 14-16). The songs credited to both Jack and Aaron are But Daddy I Love Him. (implausible given how she and Matty were not publically dating at the time, this would be three days after her and joe announced their breakup) and thanK you aIMee (more plausible imo but still unlikely). If I had to guess I would say Taylor was recording Who's Afraid, but idk she could've not recorded anything and just have been in the studio to be in the studio, yknow

MAY: matty month. i'm guessing she was mostly working with jack, but theres nothing stopping her from working with aaron (until he leaves for tour on may 18 and is gone the rest of the month). i'm also guessing she was planning on recording a taylor's version this month, because fresh out the slammer, guilty as sin, and the alchemy all have christopher rowe credits, who is taylor's main tv collaborator.

UNKNOWN: But Daddy I Love Him, Fresh Out The Slammer (i could also see this being what i call a "wrap up song", which is a song written late in the process about emotions felt earlier in the process, in order to fill listeners in about some crucial detail(s) she hadn't covered in a song. think like, style being the last song written for 1989, or fortnight almost definitely being written in october), Guilty as Sin? (this might've been written earlier, but i doubt it was recorded before late april), Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?, The Alchemy (i'm a "it was originally about matty healy but it fit so well for travis that she decided to retroactively transform it into a travis song" truther, but that can obviously be totally wrong) May 7, 2023: The Albatross (mostly based on taylor and aaron both being in nashville and her officially getting together with matty, but i could see this also being a wrap up song) May 24, 2023: Florida!!! May 31, 2023: The Tortured Poets Department (two photos of her from this day are labeled as "the tortured poets department" and "ttpd" are on her and jacks insta)

JUNE: reports that taylor and matty broke up hit early june. jack leaves for europe in july and gets married in august, so i'm guessing he wasn't super available again until september (she also isnt photographed at electric lady between Jun 28-Sep 5). so i'm guessing the more intense jack stuff was written in june (aaron was def still around though)

UNKNOWN: My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, imgonnagetyouback (just based on when GUTS was released, i'm guessing this wasn't written after september 8) Jun 22, 2023: The Black Dog Jun 29, 2023: Down Bad

JULY: seems like aaron time! jack is seemingly in europe, aaron wasn't touring, and he showed up to two eras dates this month

UNKNOWN: So Long London, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, How Did It End? (this might've been written in april, but personally i would need a couple months to be able to process and express this), The Prophecy, Peter

AUGUST: a weird month! aaron is touring (though he is in nashville on the 15th), and Jack gets married on the 19th so i imagine he was busy. taylor was photgraphed in a studio in LA on the 2nd that, as far as i can tell, was not credited on TTPD (i don't have the anthology credits though).

SEPTEMBER-DECEMBER: wrap up time! i'm guessing theres probably a ton more down here, but i erred on the side of songs being written in the moment-- but i don't think she was writing multiple songs a week while on tour from may-july

UNKNOWN: I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) (i guess it could technically have been written earlier but it feels too playful to me to have been written pre-september. also the christopher rowe credit makes me think she was recording another tv late in the year), loml (it feels like a june/july song to me but it has a christopher rowe credit and that throws me off) So High School (for obvious reasons) Early Oct, 2023: Fortnight Nov 13, 2023: Us (taylor also played bdilh for gracie that night, so we know it was written by november)

I noted down my thoughts while I listened to the tortured poets department for the first time (every track in order) and here's my album reaction

1) fortnight

I like the sound, makes me feel like the album is going to sound like midnights 2.0

somehow this song sounds exactly like i was expecting it to sound. love it, it'll def grow on me

interesting melody. caught me from the first note.

4) down bad

probably my favorite so far??? definitely midnights 2.0, particularly, I'd say the album so far sounds like midnight rain

another possible favorite. the intro gives me a mixture of christmas vibes + death by a thousand cuts intro

the intro gave me happier fearless album vibes (with super subtle country touches), but it sounds like its own song. this is pure taylor with a 5.40 minutes song 💖👌🏻

7) fresh out the slammer

interesting change of rythm in the middle of the song, like in evermore. I'll need to listen to it again

the song i was most excited about cause i LOVE florence + the machine!!! I'm so glad she actually sang in it, i really felt the collab and there is something magical about this song. I would expect nothing less from a collab with florence 😍❤ i loved hearing taylor explore these more haunted/epic vibes. It still felt coherent with the rest of the album

loved it from the intro, love the rythm. I don't know what it is about it but it made me think it seems like a song that might have been from the 90s, but with a modern midnights sound?? one of my favorites.

that "am i allowed to cry?" in the end? PERFECT.

i felt some super subtle 90s vibes in certain moments of the song?

10) who's afraid of little old me?

the intro is chefs kiss perfection. OMG I LOVE THE WHOLE OF IT SO BADLY. One of the best songs of the album, 100%. Immaculate vibes. Great lyrics. Original melody that isn't flat standard but still catchy.

11) I can fix him (no really i can)

this song is like if cowboy like me was written for ttpd. and I'm saying this in the best way possible. this song is evermore(album)-coded. the melody reminds me willow too. 11/10 👌🏻

excellent intro, yes, give me a sad song!!!! my favorite songs very often are in the second half of the albums or towards the end. this one is absolutely beautiful. another favorite (there are already so many favorites for me and I'm still at track 12 💀)

this one is you're on your own kid's sister. It adds up to Taylor's songs whose music is 🤩💖🎊🎉 while the lyrics are 💀🔪💔😞

you can understand from the very first (sigh) note that this one is going to be a high quality song. I think this is more or less how i expected this whole album to sound like. a quiet folklore poetry heavy album. --but OH!! the way the song builds up in the second half got me!! LOVE IT LOVE IT. another one of the best ones.

15) the alchemy

I liked it. It has less elements that grip you on the first listen but i think it's one of those songs you won't able to get out of your head once you get them.

this one surprised me. liked it a lot.

I had high expectations for this one. I liked it. I'll need to listen to it again.

this is where I'm starting to hear this album's sound as its own (as in different from midnights 2.0). all the vocals have been very cohesive throughout the tracks. I love them. there's something unhinged about this album as a whole and I'm HERE FOR IT.

perfect intro, I just knew from then it was going to be a 10/10 track already. this one is another one of the best ones. perfect. THIS is how i thought the album would sound like.

90s vibes!!! again, but with the modern sound of the album. maybe I'm the only one who hears the 90s vibes and I'm making it up in my mind, but there's something slightly retro about it. and her mentioning american pie in the lyrics kind of confirms it. I'm in love with this song.

"I hate it here so i will go to secret gardens in my mind" ME TOO TAYLOR, ME TOO. love the melody of this song, and the concept. there's something delicate about it.

i love that there's something from the past in this album, like taylor went back to her high school years bringing back old wounds and relating to how she is now.

25) I look in people's windows

what I'm loving about this album is how much more intimate it seems, compared to midnights. the sound may seem similar at first, but even that one is more intimate. It's less constructed, more unhinged at times, like she's writing her diary again, and that's something she hasn't done in a while, since folklore and evermore featured characters and stories that weren't necessarily autobiographical

I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS SOUND 😭😭😭 the whole album, and this song. It sounds so good. Another favorite.

I think this album is going to be a little masterpiece. So many great songs. Catchy, but not in an obvious way. Very intimate. Emotional.

I was tagged for this by @sciencemyfiction and it looks super fun! I am going to cheat a little bit tho and post only from my One Piece fics as I haven't published anything else since 2018 and I think the writing sample will be more representative of my current styl

Flotsam and Jetsam

"When Big Mom's crew arrives on Zou, Sanji's first thought is, Damn, we didn't fuck 'em up enough before?"

Here I am cheating AGAIN because this line is actually from chapter 2 of Flotsam and Jetsam, "Instead of the Cross, the Albatross," but IN MY DEFENSE it's the only chapter of that fic that was meant to be its own standalone fic. The rest of those chapters are just things I didn't want to consign forever to the desolation of my scrapped file.

I was actually super nervous to do this because hooks and opening lines are not my strong suit as a writer. My thoughts about the above are pretty much what I already knew. I have a tendency to set the place of any given scene before anything else. It's present even at the start of fics/scenes where the lines aren't explicitly about the sense of place or setting, and I usually accomplish this by calling reference to some time or place that the reader, as a One Piece fan, will undoubtedly be very familiar with and will instantly be able to recall the wheres and whens of the given scene.

In part this is intentional because in the Fair Winds and Following seas series specifically I jump over or outright skip certain events and catching the reader up to where we are now as efficiently as possible is important. HOWEVER, I definitely have a tendency to over-rely on this strategy, which is something I'm definitely thinking about and considering as I've been writing some original fiction!

Alternatively, four of the above entries begin with outright dialogue which is, funnily enough, my least favorite way to start a scene. I usually do it for the sake of a joke and to set the tone and sometimes place which all of the above entries are with the exception of "Found in the Crack of Your Palm." Also Usopp is the one speaking in both 3 and 6. Probably because I try to include his dialogue wherever possible in Fair Winds because I struggle to insert him into the plot and he's good at setting a mood.

I do think the "best" of these opening lines are from "Same Song, Different Verse," and also "spill your wine." Both of them do the thing where I'm establishing place but they also manage to tie in some important sensory information which becomes thematic as their respective fics go on. Food for thought.

Do you have any recommendations for Ahsoka Tano time travel fics? I really enjoy all the ones you've written and I'd love to read more like them. The King, the Soldier, and the Spy is probably my favorite :)

Obviously this is non-exhaustive because fandom is BIG but here's five:

Living in Borrowed Time by smug_albatross (@scribbling-albatross) - My absolute favorite Ahsoka time-travel fic, no question, and one I've recced several times 😅. This fic did a lot to influence my readings of Rex and Ahsoka, both as people and in relation to each other, and I highly recommend it. This story really hits the spot for characterization that's within the realm of 'realism' (as much as such can apply to a Star Wars context) while still pushing in the direction of something interesting happening. It's also got a perspective I really appreciate when it comes to Anakin, because it's very clear that the POV characters don't trust him and for good reason, because some of those seeds are already there... but most aren't, and he's trying hard to be a good person and he's genuinely confused and hurt about these people, who are so important to him, not trusting him anymore.

Realign the Stars by CrystalRainsWriting, TerinAngel (@terinangel) - Abandoned, unfortunately, but very fun. Ahsoka is far from alone in her time-travel (Obi-Wan, Anakin, Rex, and Cody all go too), but her view on events and the way she interacts with the original timeline characters is great, and unique even among the variety of characters in the story.

Of Queens, Knights, and Pawns by chancecraz (@chancecraz) - This is primarily a Leia fic, but Ahsoka is considered a time-traveler by some metrics, due to Malachor. It's not quite the same thing, but the vibes are close enough that I feel comfortable recommending it.

Tano and Kenobi by FireflyFish - Depending on your opinions of a specific character, this is YMMV. Ahsoka and Obi-Wan are, as a general rule, a delight, and I enjoy their interactions immensely. However, if you like Qui-Gon and consider him a flawed but fundamentally good person (which, you follow me, so probably), this might not be the fic for you.

Although He Smiles by AutumnChild22 (HonestlyHelen) (@autumnchild22) - Unlike most of what I've recced here, Ahsoka is not time-traveling from the Rebels era, but rather from TCW to TPM. (It's also the one and only AU that I've encountered that convinces me there's potential in Ahsoka/Obi-Wan as a time-travel ship, even if the fic is very ambiguous on the nature of that relationship.)

Here an adult Raggfong in non-breeding plumage gazes up at the sun from a bed of sea kale.

I think the Raggfong is my favorite of the Bestiary Posting animals so far. Not necessarily my design (which I do love, don't get me wrong), but just the description. It reads like the setup for a 'Watership Down' style novel about birds who worship the sun, and I decided to channel that energy into my piece. I also have no clue what this bird could actually be, but would love to hear the stories behind the descriptions (brood parasitism as an explanation for rejected chicks being raised by another bird, maybe?)

The description sounds very mythic - like a legendary sunbird, but it seems to make a point that it's a seabird. So I scrapped my original instinct of a heron/phoenix feel. The description of it 'gliding on unmoving wings' put me in mind of an albatross, so I gave it albatross wings for long distance soaring. From there I started adding various other seabirds into the mix: a gannet-like beak and a cormorant-neck for it's diving abilities, a tern's tail to add elegance, an osprey's keen eyes, and lastly a little mustache like an Inca tern, purely for style.

Okay, now that I've had a week to digest and process the album (no, I still don't know the lyrics and as much as I love Taylor, I will never be staying up till 2 a.m for her music, or anyone's music, ever again. I stopped processing lyrics during But Daddy I Love Him lol) I still somewhat stand by my perdiction.

Fortnight, My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys, So Long, London, But Daddy I Love Him, Fresh Out The Slammer, I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can), The Black Dog and imgonnagetyouback feel very Garmadon/Misako to me

The Tortured Poets Department, Guilty as Sin? and How Did It End? feel very Wu/Misako to me.

And Flordia!!!, The Albatross, I Hate It Here, I Look In People's Windows, The Prophecy, Cassandra, The Bolter & The Manuscript feel very Misako to me.

But what I wasn't expecting was songs that didn't feel like her or either of her canon relationships.

Like loml, The Alchemy and So High School that feel like Jaya. I Can Do It With A Broken Heart that feels like Jay season 4. Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me which is so Lloyd Oni Trilogy (but also Harumi). Clara Bow which feels like The Lucky One and Nothing New AKA Wu passing down the "master" mantel to Lloyd. Peter which has some Kailor paralells.

And the songs I haven't assigned yet (Down Bad, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, thanK you aIMee & Robin) are just floating around in endless space until my brain goes "wait a minute!"

So yes, I think my prediction was somewhat correct but I am totally open to other opinions because the album has only been out for a week and I made my original list after Midnights had been out for about a year and a half.

Author's Note: On the surface, this plot does not have the site-wide stakes of previous big plots I have done - and yet, I think this is the most complex and rewarding plot I've ever embarked on! 30. O this is a very interesting one!! I’ll list a familia, platonic, and romantic one..

Moray & Orca | Cousins ! But I think they could be interesting to think about! I’d love to see Morays frustration towards Orca about her death explored more. I’d imagine that they were actually incredibly close, Moray being a dragon Orca confided in about her powers, but Orca never told Moray about her plan to upspur her mother & Morays grief for her lost cousin presents itself in anger directed at Orca’s actions, and pushed Moray closer to Coral because, despite everything, Corals now her closest connection to her dead family. I just thing it could’ve been interesting to explore their dynamic more & what could’ve stemmed from it!

Crystal & Anemone | GUH THIS ONE. Im pretty confident a scene where they interact will never exist but they could be so interesting. Anemone meeting a princess who actually ran away and was able to start a new life away from the royal family?? Who took a partner from a different tribe than her own??? It could be so good. I just think they could be neat…

Abalone x Shark | My favorite ship that only I ship…. <3 I think it could add more layers o shark as a character, Moray’s disconnect from Shark, and reasoning as to why Shark was more generous with Tortoise when that seems to oppose his personality. Similarly, bringing together Abalones characters and added weight behind why he would stay with the eggs despite it all, giving him greater familial connection to the crown. I dunno! I think it could be so interesting! But I’m confident thats not going to happen!

31. My first oc was my sona, Tide! I made them in elementary school as a fankid of Tsunami & Riptide who could talk to & be possessed by Albatross. They were pretty cool back in elementary school lmao Ive just kept them as a sona ever since! My classic thang! Unfortunately I dont have any old drawings of them at the ready but theres some ancient tide art out there in the world ..
