@waterfire1848 hear me out, AU where Vox can't cope with the pain of "sad and complicated" and simply doesn't want to do that anymore so he puts all his memories that are even remotely related to Alastor in a folder and deletes them.

And then Alastor just happens to run into him in the street, and approach him to do some of his typical rival taunting and mocking and Vox is like "Who are you? Why you acting like I know your ass?" and the Radio Demon is out there losing his mind because how DARE Vox disregard and Todd aside what they had? How dare he disregard and toss aside him?!? Just like that!?

I shall call this reverse version of one way broadcast "glitching radio" unless somebody comes up with something better

I had a lot of time to think about this AU from the moment I posted it to now and this is what I came up with:

Vox met Alastor almost as soon as he manifested in hell. Alastor felt the new signal of a device with a different frequency and following it lead back to Vox. The date and hour folder Alastor.txt was created is less than an hour after Vox died.

Originally, Alastor considered destroying Vox immediately, because why would anyone need any other type of medium when radio exists, but similarly to Charlie, Vox had a lot of potential the Radio Demon decided to try and manipulate. And a partnership formed. Alastor got Vox up and started in the ins and outs of hell, helped him through the process of acquiring his first few souls before sitting back and watching him grow into a powerful overlord. He always viewed Vox as a personal project.

And he was not a fan of Vox's updates. Every time Vox decapitated himself and got a new head -thinner, with colours, wider- Alastor felt as if his mentee was drifting apart. Why did Vox need all those updates? Why did he need to always be modern? Why did he willing make a name for himself that was so detached from Alastor's own image. Were they not partners? Was that not enough for Vox?

The straw that broke the camel's back was when Vox proudly announced he had found two new associates that were willing to form an alliance with him. Them, actually, but Alastor perceived it as "him". (Velvette canonically died in the early 2000's, so my personal headcannon is that she's been in hell for 15 years now and the Vees are pretty new in retrospect)

He and Vox were partners. He made Vox. And now Vox wanted to ditch him for people that fit his "embrace the future" ideology.

Yeah, no, fuck that.

Alastor rejected the pity invite business proposal to join their little group, in a quite mean spirited and aggressive way, which was the trigger to their fallout. The words "ridiculous motion" and "imbecilic ambitions" might have been thrown around.

Vox proceeded to develop the Vees project, but kept trying to reach out to Alastor (tried to clear the air once and got upset at being met with a cold shoulder) (and he was pretty butthurt the Radio Demon thought so lowly of his idea and wanted to prove himself) so their old friendship turned into a rivalry.

And they were rivals for some time. And then Alastor ghosted Vox for seven fucking years, then proceeded to return and not even try to waltz into the rekindled flames of their rivalry. So after his humiliated breakdown on love Tv, Vox decided it wasn't worth it.

Alastor clearly didn't care about him. Not as a person, at least. He saw Vox as an extension of his own power and skill, and did not wish to see Vox succeed if it's going to be on his own. So it wasn't worth it. The pain wasn't worth it. The anger, the tears, the regret and nostalgia, none of it was worth it. If Alastor doesn't give a fuck, why should he? Especially when there's something he can do to fix the situation once and for all.

Oh, but Alastor did give a fuck. Vox was his project, his mentee, his friend, his partner, his rival. Hasn't he taken enough from him? Forcing Alastor to watch as he was drifting away all those years wasn't enough? Essentially announcing he didn't need the Radio Demon anymore because he had something newer and better wasn't enough? Vox just had to stomp across his grave one last time by letting Alastor know just how insignificant and easy to let go off all their shared moments were?

Yeah. No. Fuck that.

He did not get to do this. He did not get to get away with this. Alastor will find a way to fix this and then he'll bake Vox pay. Because this? This is nothing sort of unacceptable.

And yes, both narrators of this story are biased and unreliable because they are Vox and Alastor, both of which have sort temper and refused to take the time to put things into perspective.
