[Wyndham Robertson Library, Hollis University]
One of our zine raffle winners from ALA 2014 in Vegas, Maryke at Hollis University in Roanoke VA, reports that the zines are doing well in their library:
We repurposed a newspaper rack and they fit nicely. We also basic-cataloged them so they can be checked out. Author/title only, for now; at the end of the year we are going to evaluate usage and see whether we want to do more full cataloging, start buying some new zines, etc. That box we received from you was such a great help in getting us this far, so we are truly grateful to you and to all who conceived of the raffle!
Also exciting: one of our art faculty has incorporated the zines as an assignment into one of her classes this fall, a first-year seminar, and she intends to use them again for another class this spring. She has had students compare and contrast two zines from the collection, then conceive and create a zine of their own.
So overall I am pleased to report that the zines are a hit, and they are being used!

ALA Annual Conference: 2014
ALA Annual Conference: 2014 #alaac14 featuring @jolenehaley @tonyakuper and @anerdgirlsays
This past weekend was the American Library Association’s annual conference, here in Las Vegas. I was excited I didn’t have to travel, and even more excited that Jolene from Pen and Muse was coming to hang out with me and take me to my very first ALA.
Jolene got to meet some of her favorite authors, like Holly Black and Becca Fitzpatrick.
And this awesome author, Tonya Kuper- who was super sweet…

The Zombie Squad is an elite task force for the suppression of the mobile dead. When the business of zombie removal is slow, we focus our training and education on ourselves and the community about the importance of disaster preparation. If you are prepared for the zombie apocalypse, you are prepared for anything. Through out the year, we host a variety of charitable events because we believe the stronger the community, the faster it can recover after a disaster.
(Every day until the conference we’ll be featuring some of the awesome zinesters who’ll be at the pavilion! I can’t wait!)
