Memory in the Letter - Wild Ass Theory
obvious spoilers
I'm crazy and making Wild Ass Theories where there is no need for them . . .
They're the same guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Songjam is younger than Aksorn, but Kyo is older. Both Songjam and Kyo have vinyl records (I love them already!). I know Songjam's mirror gets broken from the trailer, so what if Kyo jumped through his mirror, came to this universe but it was still in the past, got the apartment that Songjam would live in waiting for him and moved out just as he knew Songjam would move in, so their love story could start?
Tumblr media
Because Kyo is sus:
He said quantum physics was like love for him
He commented that there was recent evidence of parallel universes with a little sparkle in his eye
He regularly visits the bookstore that Aksorn works at but this is the first time he has actually spoken to him
HE WAS INTRODUCED LIKE THIS!
Tumblr media
And their hair is the same style, which is all I really need to convince me they are the same!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IF Kyo is the one writing the story in next week's preview, maybe he is doing it to convince Aksorn that he is the Songjam he fell in love with because Aksorn is a writer, and he was staring at Oscar Wilde's De Profundis which was one long letter to Wilde's former lover.

Where there is sorrow there is holy ground

Is Kyo writing one long letter to his former lover, so he'll remember him?

Memory in the letter is a beautiful fairy tale BL
and I thank it for finishing so perfectly
Got to the Memory In The Letter finale today! I love it so much.
This is a story that got the fantasy perfect for me, the foreshadowing and the destiny of him meeting Aksorn's parents before Aksorn was even born!! I had goosebumps.
Such a perfect little show with a flawless closed time loop. Why Songjam had to wait, the ways he carefully made sure things went the way he remembered. How he waited!!! Seriously, they may not be Amy and Rory but this was just beautiful.

This is going straight in my all time favs, and on my rewatch list.
Overall rating 96%
Highly reccomended, especially for lovers of fantasy, destiny or fairytales.

Memory in the Letter Ep 5 Stray Thoughts
Last time, Aksorn learned that the person uploading the novel found it in unreleased manuscripts at her old job, and Aksorn thinks his mom wrote the novel. Kyo was unreasonably chill about this. Songjam realized there was a chance for him to cross over and seemingly attempted to. We left at Aksorn finding the mirror shattered.
Okay, looks like Songjam jumped into a different reality? Or maybe a different time?
Oh what the hell. Is he 27 years in the past??
Suddenly 🎶 it was the 90s 🎶
Reset the clock. Someone in a Thai BL got hit with a stick.
Is this woman going to end up being Aksorn's mom?
Is this the house they used for Team's family in Between Us?
I'm about 90% sure this is Aksorn's dad.
Okay, so that's Aksorn's mom I think.
Oh, Likit's story went dark there.
Oh no... He's Kyo. He was playing the Kong game.
WTF???
Yo this got so fucked up so fast. Our boy managed to thrive here only to be unable to help the first person who was kind to him when she came through the ER. That's devastating.
But he saved the baby that will grow up to be the man he loves.
He held the room for 20 years to make sure the mirror was in place for Aksorn. I am screaming.
Well, I'm glad I was right to read Kyo as weirdly supportive and as an almost-rival. This was quite unexpected.
He's gonna go back to Pallop next episode omg.
Oh, Thai BL, you love to go to time travel with your sci-fi romances. Why?? He's already from another world! Why make this a story about our boys holding out for 25 years??

Memory In The Letter ep 1
(just thoughts and some quick readings done)
Memory in the letter references The Siam Renaissance which is a 2004 fantasy film that's an adaptation of the 1986 thai novel Thawiphop by Thommayanti. Thawiphop is about a young woman who went back in time through a magic mirror.
Sounds kinda familiar doesn't it? Aksorn doesn't go back in time but through the mirror he can see that Songjam is from a different time period.
One of the important things about this novel is that it's used as an example of Thai nationalist thought. Basically absolute monarchy is dismantled and nationalism is promoted. Films during 2020 were also used to promote Thai patriotism and this was through a series of war films endorsed by the Prime Minister during that time. But really the series isn't about war films but someone like Aksorn who loves literature would also appreciate the use of films for imagination/promote a message/learn about history, the world etc. Which is in contrast to how his father would view literature and film for that matter. Maybe Aksorn's father represents the monarchy where it's total obedience and Aksorn is resisting that.
There's also De Profundis by Oscar Wilde. So I did a quick read up on it (too lazy to read the entire thing anyways) and found some stuff I could relate to this episode.
Both Oscar and Aksorn's mothers died.
While Oscar is a writer, Aksorn is aspiring/hoping to be one. I don't know if he started yet.
There is a quote from the letter "I am completely penniless, and absolutely homeless. Yet there are worse things in the world than that. I am quite candid when I say that rather than go out from this prison with bitterness in my heart against the world, I would gladly and readily beg my bread from door to door."
If we focus on the bolded part of the quote and words 'homeless' and 'penniless' this is how it relates to Aksorn. We know Aksorn is not 'homeless' but he has 'shunned' his family home. That home has become a 'prison' for Aksorn just like Wilde has his own prison as well.
Maybe it's a stretch but I'm finding someone 'similar' between Oscar/Bosie (Lord Alfred Douglas) and Aksorn/Songjam.
Oscar had written that letter to Bosie but was not allowed to send it to him. But let's say that he was allowed to send the letter - Oscar is trapped by the prison he's in, there's a distance between him and Bosie and to bridge that distance he writes a letter to him. Aksorn and Songjam are 'close' in their developing relationship and that they could sit against the mirror and converse with each other but there is a distance in that they are from two different dimensions where they cannot access the other one (as far as we know).
There's also one thing that I've noticed which is the use of mirrors. We see it in the series as a barrier between dimensions and it's used as a time travel device in Thawiphop. However there's also references to it elsewhere, specifically with relation to Oscar Wilde. I found this excerpt through a translation of Oscar Wilde's Salome:
"No, no, you would not have that. .... But I will look at you no more. Neither at things, nor at people should one look. Only in mirrors should one look, for mirrors do but show us masks." (edited to focus on the last sentence).
Through Memory and in the Letter and Salome I'm sure they're both referencing mirrors in the sense of reflecting an image. Before the comet hit, Aksorn would view the mirror as something used to show his reflection. In Salome, the mirror is used symbolically as something depicting an absence of masks. The character sees all else as fake and the mirror as showing him reality. Maybe the reflection shows what we are like inside.
However, ever since the comet hit his apartment, Aksorn no longer sees his reflection but the mirror has given him access to a whole new dimension. We're not able to see Songjam's world as yet so I'll address it through Aksorn's side. Aksorn is sort of living two lives now. The one where he goes about his daily life that Songjam cannot be a part of and the other where it's just Aksorn and Songjam and no one else. If anyone else enters his room, would they see Songjam or their own reflection. Is access to the world through the mirror only for them?
I've heard this series is only 6 episodes so I'm interested in seeing how this mini series progresses.

there is something profoundly bittersweet about songjam & aksorn. a mirror and an entire parallel world keeps these two separated from each other and yet there is this…natural intimacy that exists. they can’t physical touch each other, the only thing they could do is press against the glass on both sides and imagine what it would feel like, but right from the start it was clear that songjam and aksorn has this unspoken (but very real) connection
Tumblr media
they comfort each other. they watch movies and listen to music and genuinely communicate. it’s not said how much time has passed, whether it’s a few days or longer than that, but either way their relationship feels very real.
this realness was especially evident when songjam asked aksorn to pick a record. the one aksorn picked was more slow, it was very much the type of record you would listen to as you slow dance in a darkly lit room with someone you care about. and guess what? songjam & aksorn very much slow danced together and it was one of the most authentically romantic scenes i’ve seen in a long time
Tumblr media Tumblr media
songjam teaching aksorn how to dance was the sweetest. they can’t actually hold or embrace each other because of the mirror but that doesn’t stop them from fully living their swoonworthy first little dance moment that is a little bit awkward and silly at times. yeah they can’t touch each other but i honestly think it adds to the romanticism. they were so smiley and soft and tender as they swayed back and forth. it very much feels like the audience are invading in this private moment between songjam & aksorn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and what gets me even more in this scene is that they kiss the camera spins around until both backgrounds of the different worlds blurs into one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
that invisible barrier disappears as they lean in and kiss. everything else fades away at that moment. the kiss is just as heartfluttering as the scenes where songjam & jam touch through the mirror or simply sit next to each other. and what’s going to inevitably kill me is that there is a very real possibility that this could be a sad ending. really, how can two people from different worlds be together? i feel like the writers intentionally packed this first episode with so many sweet moments and established this mutual tension between two very touch starved individuals

I love Askorn basically accidentally confessing to being absolutely in love with Songjam by telling him the story is totally true. That's the best accidental confession yet. And Songjam is so happy about it it's darling.

He isn't from the future!
Tumblr media
BECAUSE HE IS FROM THE PAST!
Tumblr media
Songjam is an hour behind Aksorn, so it's in the past and even though he didn't get a chance to spend Christmas Day with Aksorn in Aksorn's original timeline, he is making it up now.
Tumblr media
Kyo is Songjam, and I will not be convinced otherwise.
Now give Aksorn his Christmas present!
Tumblr media
And let's make pancakes!
