Last days of January, a frustrating trip to Baguio. Haha! Dami kong kwento pero share ko nadin.

We booked in Baguio last December pa to celebrate sana ang mga achievements namin last year, kaso lang di kami natuloy. Booking on the dates of December are always critical lalo na sa Baguio, for some reason, few of the population think the same, they thought it would be nice to stay in Baguio around that dates, kaya naman jam-packed ang mga tao. We already anticipated, that there will be a lot of bakasyonista. Pero we still insist to go, prior to our trip we had difficulties with our car, some good guys trapped a long nose plier on the road it was inserted on the pot holes of the street, ayun nagulungan… pumasok hanggang sa mags and butas pati mags.

We were really upset, pero wala nang magagawa so we cancelled our booking in Baguio we demand for refund pero bawal daw. The only option we had is to rebook our trip. And since tapos na ang Holiday break we had a lot of backlogs at work. Imagine, our company gave us Dec 26-Jan3 yes! that looong for holiday break - for us to enjoy. Madami talagang work pag balik sa opisina.

I tried to call the Hotel but no one’s answering my inquiries. Akala ko non, di na namin mababawi yung pera na binayad namin shempre wag kang papayag haha. So as the days goes by, my guts instruct me to call the hotel at 7AM in the morning luckily they answered! OMG! As we were talking I introduced myself and the details of the bookings that we have. They told me na Mam you were booked in these days, she gave me dates, that’s around weekdays, tinanong ko shempre, sino nag book nyan? She replied, kami po nag plot.

It was really hard to reach them so I grabbed the opportunity and agreed to the given dates. I was so shocked when we finished the comms. Imagine umoo ako without knowing ano ba sched ko non. 🥲 we needed to change tires na kasi di na kaya ma-vulcanize, wala kang mabibiling mags na isa lang sa ganun ka rush na panahon, it will take your time and effort bago ka makahanap ng original na honda mags na isa lang hahaha.

Ekspedisyon sa Puerto Princesa: Ang Marahuyong Kabisera ng Palawan

Ang Palawan ay itinuturing na isa sa mga sikat na lugar sa Pilipinas. Isa itong lugar na malayo sa aking pinanggalingan at kinakailangan pang sumakay sa isang eroplano upang ito'y mapuntahan. Ang kabisera ng Palawan ay ang Puerto Princesa, ang lugar na lubos na ipinagmamalaki ng mga Palawaneño.

AKOMODASYON

Sa aming pagpunta sa Puerto Princesa, kami ay nanuluyan sa Rema Tourist Inn. Ang akomodasyong ito ay napakaganda at mababait din ang mga empleyado at talagang sinisiguro nilang malinis at ligtas ang aming tutuluyan. Mayroon ding pool sa akomodasyong ito at libre pa ang umagahan kung kaya't masasabi kong sulit talagang manuluyan sa Rema Tourist Inn.

MGA LUGAR SA PUERTO PRINCESA

Tatlong araw at dalawang gabi ang aming inilagi sa Puerto Princesa. Sa unang araw pa lamang, iba't ibang lugar na ang aming napuntahan, mga lugar na ipinapakita kung bakit itinuturing na magandang paraiso ang Puerto Princesa. Ang mga lugar na napuntahan namin sa tatlong araw ay ang:

1. Crocodile Farm/Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Centre

Pinapangalagaan nila sa lugar na ito ang mga buwaya lalo na’t ang kanilang uri ay nanganganib ng maubos. Pagkapasok namin sa lugar na ito, mayroong exhibition area kung saan makikita ang iba’t ibang mga balat at buto ng mga buwaya, kasama na rito ang buto’t balat ng isang buwaya na sinasabing nakakain ng isang batang babae. Kasunod ng exhibition area ay ang lugar kung saan makikita ang mga batang buwaya na lubos na pinangangalagaan at pinapahalagahan ng mga tao. Ilang sandaling paglakad lamang ang kinailangan namin upang makarating sa lugar kung saan makikita naman ang mga matatandang buwaya na talaga namang nakakatakot dahil sa angkin nilang laki.

2. Mitran's Ranch

Ang Mitran's Ranch ay isa sa pagmamay-ari ng namayapang Senator Ramon Mitran. Napakaganda ng tanawin sa lugar na ito at hindi ko mapigilang maghangad din ng rantso dahil sa tanawing aking nakita. Ang lugar na ito ay perpekto para sa mga taong nais tanggalin ang bigat ng mundo sa kanilang mga balikat. Para sa dagdag kaalaman, siguraduhin mong nakahubad ang iyong sapatos bago ka pumasok sa loob ng bahay, tanda ito ng pagbibigay respeto sa namayapang senador.

3. Baker's Hill

Mga mura at masasarap na pagkain ang handog ng Baker's Hill. Dati ay isa lamang itong maliit na panaderya ngunit ito ay umusbong at naging isang parke. Kay sarap ng mga pagkain dito lalo na ang hopia na ube pastillas ang lasa. Hindi ko makakalimutan ang masarap na lasa ng hopiang ito na perpekto upang gawing pasalubong sa iyong mga kamag-anak o kaya kaibigan.

4. Plaza Cuartel

Ang Plaza Cuartel ay isang napakagandang parke na siya ring nagpapaalala ng masalimuot na pangyayari noong panahon ng mga Hapon. Ang Plaza Cuartel ay ang lugar kung saan nakulong ang humigit kumulang isang daan at limampung bihag noong panahon ng Ikalawang Digmaang Pandaigdig. Ngunit noong Disyembre 14, 1944, napagdesisyunan ng mga Hapon na patayin ang mga bilanggo sa pamamagitan ng pagsunog sa kanila ng buhay. Labing-isang bihag ang nakatakas at sila ay lumangoy sa dagat patungong Iwahig.

Ayon sa aming tour guide, isa sa mga nakaligtas na bihag ay si Don Schloat na siyang naggawa rin ng skulptor ng isang sundalo na tila nakapalipit ang katawan na ating makikita rin sa Plaza Cuartel. Hanggang ngayon, kinikilabutan pa rin ako habang iniisip ang marahas na pangyayari sa lugar na nagtataglay ng kakaibang kagandahan.

5. Honda Bay Wharf

Ito ay ang lugar kung saan makikita ang maraming mga bangkang sasakyan upang makapag-island hopping. Tatlong isla ang aming napuntahan: ang Starfish Island, Luli Island at Courie Island. Napukaw ng atensyon ko ang pinong buhangin at ang napakalinis na tubig na taglay ng mga islang ito. Nag-snorkeling kami sa Starfish Island at masasabi kong kami ay napakaswerte dahil nakakita kami ng mga iba’t ibang uri ng isda at starfish. Kami rin ay tumalon sa dagat gamit ang talunan sa Luli Island. Ang karanasang iyon ay isa sa mga hindi ko makakalimutan dahil sinubok ko ang katatagan ng aking loob at naging masaya ako sa naging resulta ng pagsubok kong ito. Ang mga islang ito ay isa sa mga patunay kung gaano kaganda ang heograpiya ng Puerto Princesa.

6. Underground River

At dahil nasa Puerto Princesa na ako, hinding-hindi ko papalampasin ang pagkakataon na masilayan ang isa sa mga itinuturing na New 7 Wonders of Nature noong taong 2012. Itinalaga rin itong isa sa mga UNESCO World Heritage Site noong taong 1999. Sa aking nasaksihan doon, masasabi kong tunay na napakaganda ng ating kalikasan.

(Ang rock formation na ito ay tinatawag na "Holy Family".)

Ang mga rock formation na makikita sa loob ng underground river ay tunay na nakamamangha. Talagang malikot ang imahinasyon ng mga Pilipino sa kadahilanang nakikita nila ang iba't ibang klase ng imahe sa mga rock formation na ito at ipinapangalan nila ang parte ng rock formation na iyon sa imaheng nakikita nila rito.

Taong 2010 nang madiskubre ng grupo ng mga environmentalist at geologist na mayroong pangalawang palapag ang undergound river na ito. Ibig sabihin nito ay mayroong maliliit na talon, iba pang rock formation, mga malalaking paniki at iba pang makabuluhang tanawin sa underground river.

Ayon sa mga taong gumagabay sa amin, nasa 1.2 kilometro pa lamang ang nailakbay namin sa undergound river. Limitado lamang ang paglalakbay ng mga katulad naming turista sa underground river sa kadahilanang mga taong may permiso o otoridad lamang ang maaaring magsiyasat sa madilim at malalim na parte nito. May posibilidad din na mangyari ang oxygen deprivation o kakulangan sa hangin kung kaya't limitado lamang ang maaari naming lakbayin.

Iba't ibang uri ng karanasan ang naranasan ko sa aming paglalakbay sa Puerto Princesa. Nakatikim ako ng samo't saring pagkaing-dagat sa Badjao Seafront na tunay na napakasarap. Natikman ko rin ang isa sa nga exotic na pagkain sa Puerto Princesa, ang tamilok. Ang tamilok o woodworm ay maihahalintulad sa isang oyster. Itinitimpla ang tamilok ng may kasamang suka at sili upang madagdagan ang lasa at sarap nito. Bilang isa sa mga nakakain na nito, hindi ko maikakailang masarap ang exotic food na ito ngunit mag-aanyo kang butiking inasinan dahil sa asim na taglay nito.

Ang paglalakbay namin ay magtatapos na kung kaya't hindi namin maaaring kalimutan ang aming mga pasalubong. Bukod sa mga napakasarap na pagkain muka sa Baker's Hill, mayroon kaming pinuntahang tiangge na may samo't saring mga keychain, kuwintas, pulseras sa pulso at paa, mga damit, pagkain at iba pa. Nang makuha na namin ang lahat ng nais namin ay gumayak na kami patungong paliparan upang hintayan ang eroplanong maghahatid sa amin pabalik sa aming pinanggalingan.

Isa ako sa mga saksi kung gaano kaganda ang Puerto Princesa, mapatanawin man ito o kasaysayan. May mga madilim mang parte ang kasaysayan ng Puerto Princesa ngunit para sa akin ay simbolo ito ng katatagan ng isang pook. Dumaan man ang maraming unos, patuloy pa rin itong uusbong at uunlad. Itinuro sa akin ng Puerto Princesa na yakapin ang kabuuan ng isang lugar, may madilim man itong kasaysayan o wala. Hindi lang ang ganda ng panlabas na anyo o kung ano ang nakikita natin ang dapat nating pagtuunan ng pansin. Tayo ay dapat na maging mausisa at siyasatin ang kultura, kasaysayan at heograpiya ng mga lugar o pook na ating napupuntahan upang magising ang natutulog nating diwa bilang isang mamamayan ng Pilipinas. Ang kabisera ng Palawan ay naghahandog ng masasayang aktibidad at madilim na kasaysayan na siyang nagbubuklod sa pagkakakilanlan ng Puerto Princesa.

Nagsisisi ako.

Sana pala hindi Honda Click 150 ang kinuha ko. Sana pala kahit mio lang kinuha ko, kahit mio na lang sana tapos benta then by ng 150. O kaya yung pera na panghulog sa click, sana pala pinambili ko ng prangkisa ng tricycle. Para at least dalawa yung source of income namin if ever.

I guess in a way tama rin naman yung decision ko na kumuha ng hulugan dahil wala naman talaga akong pera that time at kailangan na namin ng ride. Pero dapat talaga yung mas mura na lang kinuha kong hulugan dahil sayang yung pera na napupunta yung interes. Ngayon ko lang din nakita kung gano kamahal ang maintenance ng motor. Kailangan din matuto sa experience na to. Pero if may regret siguro ako yan yon. Super satsfied naman ako sa performance ni tres, and talagang well maintained siya napapakinabangan.

Sa ika 1 year anniversary ng ownership namin sa kanya eto ang thoughts ko. Hindi lang din maintenance, gas, at hulog sa motor. Andyan yung kailangan bumili ng gear like kapote at mga helmet. As for helmet. YES MAHAL. Kung tutuusin hindi ko naman kailangan pa bumili ng helmet muna dahil hindi ko naman lagi ginagamit, yung kay agape is okay din na bumili na kasi lagi siya naalis. Sana yung akin tiniis ko na muna dahil hindi naman urgent yung pangangailangan. Pangalawa wala naman talaga akong pera. Utang pa yon sa credit card.

There is no such thing as job security.

I say this to people who might be locked in a job just because it is safe, it is okay and it is stable. If you are in your 30s and you are working a job for the pension/retirement... please, don't do yourself a disservice.

If I didn't leave my government job (because my Dad says it is stable, it has sure pension, I can "honda"), I would not have discovered just how much more I deserve. I am not saying that's wrong... especially I was bound by "stable" jobs then because I had bills to pay, but I would have stayed miserable and just getting by if I didn't leave. I know I say this with a place of privilege, some people can't do that, pero kasi, ako din naman. Dati, I was living paycheck to paycheck, no savings, nothing. Add the fact that I've put it upon myself na ako na ang bahala sa healthcard ng parents ko. Pero kasi, you can take calculated risks naman. Quick tips:

Tiisin mo while looking for another job. Once confirmed ka na okay yun lilipatan mo, benefits, culture and all, saka ka magresign.

Find side jobs that you can do after work. It doesn't need to pay much, as long as it can address some bills. Ako kapag may "want" ako, I try to make my side jobs pay for that.

Live way below your means. Seryoso. No amount of salary, kahit super laki pa yan, could sustain you if mas madami ang nalabas kaysa sa napasok. I learned this from one of my previous bosses na baon sa utang kahit na ang laki ng sweldo nya buwan buwan.

Invest on yourself. Try to learn new things or new skills. Hindi naman kelangan masteral agad, like start on LinkedIn free courses or Coursera free courses. Or, it doesn't have to be the work technical learnings, but maybe learn how to make good coffee, knit, etc... any skill could be monetized, I think.

Wala lang. Chumichika ako dito because my Dad is sort of putting my decision down because I decided to leave my current work (financial markets, EHS & BCP Manager for Philippines) for a contract work (known streaming site, EHS Coordinator for APAC). Alam niyo yun super hirap na nga nun decision na yun for me because I was brought up with the mindset nga na don ka sa stable, don ka sa government (my Dad was disappointed when I left the government back then)... tapos takot pa ako sa adjustments na naman... tapos parang he is questioning my decision.

Pinaninindigan ko naman. This is what I need to do now so I can save a lot for windfall and for our farmhouse goals. Wala eh... masaya naman magtrabaho pero I don't want to keep working until I am 40. Kaya I took this on. Saka, sa totoo lang, I am really feeling that this is the Universe's way of easing me into consultation mindset. Contract lang din yun eh, hindi ka employee nila. Kasi sabay netong work opportunity na to (na hindi ko hinanap, btw, I was head hunted) yung mga side jobs like being a dissertation consultant and all my engagements with UP as a resource speaker, preceptor. Feeling ko talaga eto na yun pinto papunta sa goals ko naman talaga na I get to work at home, at my own time, output based. God has never forsaken me ever with His plans naman. Always, all the great companies I've worked for, they came when I wasn't looking. So far, ganon eh. Nadating lang. At sobrang thankful ko actually sa contract na ito kasi they gave in to my demands, like full remote, HMO for my parents, etc.

Ayun, siguro, this started with my resentment na naman sa negative tokis ng Dad ko... but I am ending it with a positive outlook. Wala naman sigurado. Job security is a myth, we witnessed that during the pandemic. But, who I am and what I am capable of would not change wherever I am. My purpose is not on one company or one role, but really, just in creating health and safe workplaces for all.

I have everything I need within me to be successful. I am abundant in love, in peace, in opportunities and in finances... and I am accepting more abundance so I can share it to more people. God knows that I say that with full honesty, the more blessing I get, the more I get to share with others.

The coming months and years would bring me to my most successful era. What is success? A farm house with my small family, cats, a pick-up truck, surrounded by nature... and still doing what I do best, only this time, I do it because I want to. Not for money, not for titles, but for the sole purpose that it brings me joy.
