Chapter 28: The Weight We Share

Akira walked around the counter, setting a steaming cup of black coffee in front of him. She spoke softly, as if the words were meant for his ears alone. “I found him stumbling home late last night. I got him to sleep in my room.”

Amon raised an eyebrow, his gaze shifting between Akira and Hikari. “Your room?” he asked, his tone laced with surprise. “Where did you sleep then?”

Akira didn’t reply immediately. Instead, she settled beside Amon, her hands wrapping around her own mug of coffee for warmth. “With the girls,” she finally answered, a smirk tugging at her lips. “We had a sleepover.” Her eyes met his, a playful glint in them. “And boys weren’t invited.”

Amon paused, trying to decide if she was joking or making a statement.
