hello I have to say this to satiate the insanist banging and rattling the cage inside my brain, and I've been thinking about it for a while now

In the language I speak, whenever we see something or someone small, we use a dimunitive (ex. Nick’ is a diminutive of Nicholas) even though we have words to say it properly.

That dimunitive is (most of the time) aki !!!!!!!!! If I want to say kitten (gata/gato) or small cat I will say gataki!!!! I don't know if I make sense but I hear his name every day every hour and in every conversation and I feel happy mmmmm

Bad Dreams

Well, once again my backlog has gotten unreasonably large, so we'll try to post weekly this year. Today we have a Tsukihime fic.

Summary: Ciel doesn't enjoy dreaming. Good or bad, it always ends up unpleasant.

Ciel didn’t tend to have pleasant dreams.

If she was lucky, she wouldn’t have any at all. Her sleep would be silent and dreamless, as deep and placid as the surface of a lake at night. Those were the nights she hoped for. Other times, she dreamed of the peaceful village in France. Those dreams were painful in their own way. Pleasant, if perhaps mundane, during the dream, but she felt awful when she awoke.

But those dreams were rare. Usually, if Ciel dreamed, it was nothing so peaceful as that. She dream of being experimented on by the church. Of fighting a vampire more powerful than her, being torn to pieces again and again, wishing that she could die so that it could stop. 

But the worst were the Roa dreams. Dreaming of watching from behind her own eyes as Roa destroyed everything she’d ever cared about, defiled and exploited every memory and relationship she’d ever had as he used her whole world as a playground for his sick desires.

She awoke from one of those dreams with a start, in a cold sweat.

“It’s okay,” she murmured to herself, wrapping her arms around herself tightly. “You’re safe. You’re at home.”

Her breathing steadied, and her heart rate slowed.

It was only a dream. Just a dream…

Thank god none of that was real.

There was a knock at her door.

“Come on, Ciel, get up already. Akiha’s gonna be mad.”

Ciel glanced over at her clock and winced. She’d slept through her alarm.

“I’m coming, Shiki!” she called. She’d better get ready quickly. If Shiki was awake, she was definitely already late enough to get a frosty glare from their older sister before she left for school.

Sure enough, even though she changed into her uniform and scrambled down the stairs in record time, she found Akiha already finished with breakfast, putting on her blazer.

“Ciel,” she said, her voice even frostier than the December morning air. “Breakfast started quite some time ago. I’m afraid you and Shiki will have to eat without me.”

“Sorry,” Ciel said. “I missed my alarm.”

A flicker of concern crossed Akiha’s face for a moment. “...Another nightmare?” she asked.

“...It wasn’t that bad,” Ciel lied. “I just I was just sleeping kind of heavy.”

“I see,” Akiha said, her frosty glare returning. “I do hope our brother isn’t rubbing off on you.”

With that pointed comment, no doubt half aimed at Shiki, who had just wandered into the room, she turned and headed for the door.

“Bye Akiha!” Ciel called after her.

“See you tonight,” Shiki managed, sounding half-asleep.

Akiha clicked her tongue. “Be sure to get back before curfew this time, please,” she said.

Shiki grumbled something as she closed the door behind her.

“Akiaki! There you are! Let’s go, another day of school awaits!”

“Calm down, Kohaku. I’ve told you about making a fuss over me in public.”

“Aww, come on. Just a little?”

“I agreed to hold hands halfway to school, didn’t I? Don’t get greedy.”

The exuberant sounds of Akiha’s girlfriend trickled in through the open window as Ciel hastily spread some jam on a slice of toast and checked her watch. If she ran, she could still make the train.

“Come on, Shiki,” she said, as the brother in question stared blearily into the fridge, looking for the milk. “Have your food quick, alright? And don’t skip breakfast again. You’ll get anaemic.”

Shiki mumbled something that sounded affirmative. Ciel sighed. That was probably as good as she was going to get out of him. Unfortunately, if she waited around until he left the house, she’d definitely be late for her club activities.

“I’ll see you at school,” she said, and with that, she left their home, running for the train station as she tried to eat her toast on the move.

Thankfully, she made it just in time for the train. Her bread finished, she let herself relax as she clung to the overhead handle.

And then froze as her eye caught something unexpected.

It wasn’t as if Ciel recognized every person she saw on the train. It was the city. Of course there’d be new faces, even if there were definitely some regulars. But she was sure she’d never seen this girl before. She would have remembered.

She would have been striking in any setting. She had skin so white it almost looked like she was permanently bathed in soft moonlight, and blonde hair that Ciel was sure at a glance was natural. But more than that, she was beautiful. Unnaturally so.

Un… naturally.

It wasn’t natural.

“Hey, are you okay?” The beautiful woman said.

Ciel’s whole body shook as she took a deep, gasping breath, her hand trembling as she held it to the side of her head. The handle of her black keys were cool against her skin. She focused on that sensation, trying to ground herself as her head spun and her memories churned.

“Jeez, I thought you were supposed to be a big scary church executor,” Arcueid complained, leaning down to peer into Ciel’s face. “Don’t they train you to resist mental attacks?”

“Easy for you to say,” Ciel managed.

“Whatever. Just don’t slow me down, okay? Do you even remember why we’re here?”

“We’re… hunting a dead apostle.”

The familiar words felt strange in her mouth.

“Huh. Guess you are over it then,” Arcueid said, straightening up. “Come on, let’s go.”

“Right,” Ciel said, getting shakily to her feet.

Ciel didn’t tend to have pleasant dreams. But she felt all the worse when she woke up from a good one.
