This is a little thing I made for the Akasere Day! (You can search the #akasereday2023 in twitter) I found out very late about it and didn't have time finish coloring properly so I just made some splash of colors etc.

Like Children

Sometimes Reiji wonders if things would have been different if they hadn't met each other as children.

Not if he hadn't ever made it to Academia or if Serena had never tried to escape. Asking either of them to keep from searching would have been the same as asking them not to breathe. One way or another, they'd have found their way.

But that didn't mean their paths were always destined to cross. Who would he have been without seeing her burning determination to cut a path for herself? An hour later, and he might not have been able to offer his hand so freely. She would have been a soldier first and foremost, not another child also striving for things beyond her grasp.

Even when Serena came to Standard, teeth and ambition beared,  he had still seen that girl who believed in him so easily first, before recognizing the enemy she had become.

He tried bringing this up to her once, but the only response he got was a dismissive huff.

"We're not children anymore." She talked as if she were correcting a simple mathematical error. Time flowed in one direction. After everything they had gone through with the war and their fragile peace, they certainly couldn't be called children anymore.

But when she said, "I don't know where I'm going, but I can't stay here," Reiji still followed her with the same naive yet hopeful trust he had felt all those years ago.

Like, the IC and actually interesting version of this ship is a strict AkaSere with Serena changing from being Leo's weapon into being Reiji's as a result of Reiji providing her with the guidance Leo hasn't been giving her and picking her logical fallacies and flawed impressions of herself and her surroundings apart one by one. To me, IC!Prodigy is basically the 'sister ship' of IC!YuuriSere; being in the hands of a puppeteer is just actually beneficial to Serena in this case whereas Reiji enjoys the mental challenge Serena, with all of her unique flaws, provides him with. At the same time, though, this ship being perfecly mutual and lasting for a long time simply doesn't make any sense in my eyes. Serena, despite her attitude, is a follower and - unlike Shun - actually prone to adopting a tunnel vision, and she isn't an independent thinker either, so... yeah, the most logical conclusion'd be for Reiji to ultimately grow bored and end the relationship because the puzzle Serena presented him with is what he was truly interested in, and the very moment said puzzle has been completed, the continuous mental stimulation people like Reiji need like the air they breathe is just gone.

It is an interesting ship to me exactly because it doesn't really work, because Reiji and Serena are anything but equals, and because it is beneficial to Serena's growth despite it not being endgame.

But... yeah, of course, the feminist Hypocrites have to turn it into AkaSereAka - or worse: SereAka, with the main point being that Reiji has to worship Serena who is sooooo deep and brilliant and difficult to see through (lol) and completely out of his league. He is being reduced to a pathetic lovestruck fool and a mere object in these peoples' feminist power fantasies, and it is disgusting XX___XX

LIke, I’d really love to explore the nastier - and therefore interesting - aspects of AkaSere as a not-completely-mutual and temporarily restricted ship - and before anyone goes WHAT? AS AN ABUSIVE SHIP???- NO. that is NOT what I’m referring to - but... oh well, I’m on my own in this.
