The Akamata have strong serpentine genes. Their faces are more flat, with slitted nostrils and pupils, and sharp fangs. Their skin can come in a variety of colors that matches the scales covering their serpentine lower bodies, and is thicker than human skin making it more difficult to cut or pierce.
Akamatae are extremely long-lived, intelligent, and keep a meticulously documented history of their people. Their written texts span thousands of years, and are made up of a highly developed Akamatan language with ten regional dialects. These documents have been able to confirm data gathered about other societies that live within close proximity to the Akamatae and have been incredibly useful in education of early history.
Akamata venom can be developed into a powerful anti-toxin that will work for most venomous snake bites, and their shed skins are frequently used in place of skin grafts to aid with healing burn victims. Thankfully, most Akamata are more than willing to donate these items, or even go into the medical vocation themselves since many of their kind are capable of moderate healing and are adept at apothecary duties. Their ability to identify herbs and minerals by scent is particularly useful to this field.

Japanese Fantasy Starter for @awesomeuchuu
The cave appeared empty.
But in the right light, at the right moment, you might catch a glimpse of pillows and silks.
For in this cave lived a yokai. An akamata to be exact.
This half-snake yokai lived alone, and he was happy that way. Humans were an irritation and other yokai, though sometimes welcomed, often got in his way.
All Izumi wanted to do was please himself. Whether that be through hunting, exploring, or as of right now, singing as he prepared his food on a small fire. He didn’t need to cook, not really. But there was so much more you could do with flavours if you did.

Akamata
Not to be confused for the Akamataa Kami of the Okinawan Yaeyama Islands, Akamata (only one a at the end) are Youkai serpents, and a sub-type of Serpent People. They claim close relation to both the rather dangerous Nure-onna and the mythical Kiyo-hime, as well as having a meticulous oral and written history (with scrolls of their own shed skins being the parchments) describing how the first Akamata came to be, and their descent and family lines from an especially long-lived and thus magically enhanced akamata snake (also known as the Ryukyu Odd-Toothed Snake Dinodon semicarinatum which are found throughout the Okinawan Islands). Now found throughout Japan, they are sometimes confused for the more dangerous Nure-onna, but are nonetheless decidedly distinct.
Interestingly, Akamata is one of the most ideal examples and evidence for the mutative nature of Youki. While all magic is known to have a long term effect on those in it’s presence - Post Owls, for example, have become far more intelligent over the long years of their domestication by magicals, while magically bred cats and dogs, such as Crups and Kneazles, or rats, such as the Skipping Rope Rats, which similarly display non-standard traits often indicative of unexpected awareness, if not intelligence. One of the oldest theories as to how Youki magic, and Youkai themselves came to be hinges on the mutative nature of magic. The theory runs that one especially old Asian Dragon (theories are vague as to what kind it was, but the popular theory runs that it was an Asian Serpent Dragon) due to a long life with exposure to a great amount of magic lay eggs that were mutated more so, having Youki in addition to the normal magic necessary for a dragon to live, and advancing their intelligence beyond the already advanced levels of most Asian Dragons. Over time, due to the highly mutative nature of Youki - even more so than more ordinary magic - other creatures exposed to it likewise mutated and developed into Youkai, such as Kitsune, Bakeneko, Nekomata, Kasha, Makami and so on. Akamata are an especially noteworthy case because they are known for their phenomenal age, almost as old as that of Tatsu - Youkai Dragons - and for their meticulous storytelling, which accounts back to when the first Ryukyu Odd-Toothed Snake shed her skin to become the first Akamata.
By and large Akamata prefer to keep to themselves, but have been known to interact on occasion, often when asked to heal snake-bites by local wixes. Known to grow more powerful with each shed skin, Akamata in recent years have become fond of keeping Brimstone Cobras, which likewise grow more powerful with each shed skin. While they can be rather private creatures, they are nonetheless known to intervene on some occasions, such as if a Nure-onna starts to prey on muggles, or is preying so much on a group of wixes as to place her life at risk - surprisingly peaceable creatures, they will nonetheless be absolutely willing to end such conflicts with absolute means, rather as the serpent they once came from does - venomless, and yet unafraid of venomous snakes.
Kheru Spellsnatcher - MTG by ClintCearley
(So, while there is an Akamataa listed Here, Here, and Here, the actual Japanese Wikipedia page, Here, refers to something else entirely. There is also mention of a character in an anime/manga series which appears to be where the idea of the Okinawan Kami also being the snakes comes from, which you can read about Here. What I’ve got here is more leaning towards the snake interpretation, and using the correct spelling for the Japanese name for the Ryukyu Odd-Tooth Snake Dinodon semicarinatum, because Japanese lore has it that old enough creatures may become Yokai. I make mention of Kiyo-hime in this post, you may read about her myth over Here. Many, many thanks to @mahoutokoro-at-nagumo for their help with figuring out how to do this, and the evolution of Yokai. I hate that I have to include this but PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THE IMAGE SOURCE OR MY CAPTION.)

Geometric “Cage” Offers a Whimsical Way to Hold a Shiny Crystal
Akamatra has created an unconventional way to enjoy a multifaceted crystal. Rather than setting it within a metal pendant or ring, they’ve constructed a geometric “cage” that stores the jewel safely around your neck yet can move freely. In this way, your necklace can reinvent itself with every move. Get it now in the Akamatra Etsy shop.

Baby I’ll Behave / If You Let Me Stay | Chapter 3
jjk fic | yuuji/junpei | time travel fix-it | ao3 link | chapter 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 (on tumblr)
Junpei meets a weird pretty boy at the movies who won’t leave him alone.
**Junpei’s pov of a Yuuji that has gone back in time to change everything. Yuuji never mentions it though, so i leave all that stuff to your imagination.
ch3:  First day! Junpei wonders why Yuuji is like this.
By the end of the second period, most of the bullies had trickled into class. One of them had what looked like a couple permanent marker blobs on his face, another had a buzzcut, and another a swollen cheek.
As each of them walked in, Junpei could see the irritation on their faces as they took in a stranger in the seat behind him.  He was so glad Yuuji was sitting there today.
When lunch came, Junpei stayed in his seat. It was humiliating, but the bullies wouldn't get too physical as long as he stayed in his seat, and he brought quick snacks.
"Oi Junpei, not too bad so far, huh?" Yuuji said behind him, and Junpei turned to smile. Yeah, not bad so far.
"So who are you?" Said Akamata neutrally. He was the guy who'd come in with the swollen face, who was now sitting in the next row. Junpei had seen Akamata glaring out of the corner of his eye a couple of times.
"Itadori Yuuji, new student," Yuuji said, with a much less friendly tone than he'd had before. "Junpei, what homework were we assigned so far? I wasn't paying attention," he said cheekily.
Junpei sighed and wrote it down for him, trying not to smile.
"You're sitting in my seat," said Akamata, still sounding neutral.
"I wanted to sit next to my friend."
Junpei turned his face away from them. Friend?
"Just give him the seat," said Shino, much more aggressive. He liked to whisper suggestions to Akamata during class. He was a big guy, bigger than Yuuji. Junpei was starting to sweat.
"It's just a seat. If you want it so bad, just try to get me out." His tone was firm and a little dark. Junpei regretted turning back to the front of the room, because he wanted to see what the perpetually cheerful Itadori looked like when he wasn't smiling at Junpei.
At this point most of his classmates were watching. The room was quieter than normal, and Junpei could hear his heartbeat now. He hated the attention, but at the same time he resented all of his classmates, who would prefer not to see what they put him through, day in and day out.
"You trying to start a fight on your first day?" Said Shiromura incredulously, across the room.
Yuuji laughed loudly. It was a sort of bark, and Junpei flinched. On his left side, the side against the wall, he could feel Yuuji surreptitiously touch his arm, as if trying to soothe him.
"I'm trying to eat my lunch. Not my fault you idiots don't know how to mind your own business."
"Dumbass-"
"What're you gonna do? What?" Yuuji goaded cheerily.
"After school, behind the back entrance, be there if you're not a bitch," said Shino, standing up and beckoning to his friends to get out of there.
Yuuji giggled, sounding genuinely amused.
Junpei turned to look at him. "What the fuck is wrong with you?"
"Junpei...I'm not a bitch."

Back in the nineties, a boy and his parents went missing without a trace and nobody had seen them in the decades since. Saguru grew up hearing only brief mentions of his missing cousin, but it wasn't until after finishing high school and with a promising career ahead of him that his brother begged him to find the family. Saguru brought along his four friends to their last known location in an attempt to find a lead to their disappearance.
Only Keiko left the house alive. Or at least, the only one to remain human doing it. From then and the years to come, Saguru, Kaito, Aoko, and Akako have to struggle in a world not made for monsters like them.
..
A Humans Become Monsters (Yokai technically) Gore AU, featuring Bakeneko Saguru, Kitsune Kaito, Nukekubi Aoko, and Akamata Akako.

1. Coatlicue, an ancient Aztec earth goddess. It is said that she was decapitated by her daughter Coyolxauhqui, causing two red serpents to sprout from her neck.
2. Akamata (”Red Face”), his wife Kuromata (“Black Face”), and their child Shiromata (”White Face”), are masked deities from northern Japan. They are said to come from afar bringing happiness and feritlity.
3. Neith, ancient Egyptian goddess of hunting, weaving, and creation. Her symbols were the red crown of Egypt and a shield adorned with two arrows. She was also sometimes considered the mother of Ra, and said to have woven the world into existence.

Note
is yamada in the 90's daikaijuu :O
Nope, in the 4th series Kitaro is instead turned into the Dai Kaiju by four Yokai who worship it; Akamata, Chinpo, Yashi-Otoshi and Kijimuna. Instead of them injecting him with its blood, they force Kitaro to drink some concoction, turning him into the Dai Kaiju. Also this one is done as a movie instead of an episode.
Just so you know, my mind is fuzzy on most details, but that is the basics of it.

Snake People (Classification)
A large group of sapients, Snake People are found throughout Eurasia and North Africa, with some emigrated populations found in Australia and the Americas. Snakelike in form to one degree or another, some have a degree of shapechanging ability, while others have unusual magics, unique to their subtype. Almost all speak Parseltongue of some dialect as a native tongue, though some also speak local languages. Usually preferentially keeping to themselves, Snake People can be both warm and cold blooded, and so may be found even where wixes do not suspect.
Akamata - Snake People native to Japan, these Yokai are known for growing more powerful with age and having lifespans of considerable length, like most Yokai. Akamata also have meticulous histories of their species, recorded on their own shed skins, and tracing back to their very origins, a fact which almost no other magical sapients can boast.
Gorgon, Ekhidnid - Close cousins to, and sometimes mistaken for, the more well known Medusan Gorgons, Ekhidnid Gorgons are known for producing phenomenally powerful magic users, and will often act as guards for Petrifying Medusans when they travel, as an overt symbol of the two sub-types close and lasting alliance.
Gorgon, Medusan - Distinct from all other Snake People subtypes by having a baseline form which, while snakelike, does retain legs, Medusans are also known for the periodically expressed ability to petrify those they make eye contact with, and such Medusans are considered highly in their culture, often rising to positions of great prestige.
Naga / Nagin - One of the most well known Snake People the world over, Naga are native to India and South Asia. They are a most disparate group, either settling far from humans, or dwelling practically within wixen Hindu temples, helping with the maintenance thereof. Naga, like Akamata and Shé Jīng, are noted for their shapechanging ability and long lifespans.
Shé Jīng - Native to China, these Snake People are, like Akamata, phenomenally long lived, believed to be due to their association with Chinese Yaoguai, a cousin group to Japanese Yokai. It is generally more likely that a wix might encounter a female Shé Jīng than a male, but to encounter one at all is very rare, and such meetings are often retold.
Vuzhalki - A Slavic subtype of Snake People, Vuzhalki are known for their storied history, and their general privacy. While it is rare to see most of the above, it is almost unheard of to encounter a Vuzhalki.
