Was thinking of the possible themes for Blur/Blight and the other regions' arcs (I've yet to flesh out and explore), but so far;

Black / White - Focused around the truth; self-discovery, for better or for worse. Acknowledging that their pursuit of the truth will irrevocably change their lives forever. The hero Hilbert leaves home and never returns, and the people around them have changed. Follows a typical fairy-tale to a T, no matter how hard they tried to avoid that fate. A story that was doomed from the start.

Black 2 / White 2 - Focused around ideals; learning from what has happened in the past, either choosing to avoid making the same mistakes, or falling into the same trap. Mirroring. The hero Nate leaves their hometown, comes back, and has managed to stick to who they are and what they believe in, with the people they love. Deconstructs the fairy-tale, but instead, follows a shounen anime plot. A story that is corrupted from the events from the past, but there's a light found at the end of the tunnel.

Both BW/BW2 are also centered around love and control; love in the form of platonic, romantic, familial, and undescribed/unlabeled relationships, worship and devotion, control within one's self and towards others; particularly regarding situations that are controlled (Ghetsis, Zinzolin, Nikolai), and situations that aren't (fate, the dragons).

ORAS/E - Focused around generations, passing the mantle, bloodlines;

Brendan being Norman's son and initially seen as someone that will follow after his footsteps,

May being Birch's daughter and wondering if she's content with wanting to be like him,

Wally wanting more than a simple life with his family in Verdanturf,

Lisia stepping into the spotlight in the name of her mother's image,

Zinnia carrying the hopes and dreams of the Draconid people,

Steven being the heir to Devon Corporation,

Wallace being the only one of his siblings who stayed in Sootopolis and the only one trying to keep Sootopolitan's traditions alive,

Flannery becoming the gym leader after her father retired,

Tate and Liza being new gym leaders,

And Maxie and Archie's goals being for the sake of future generations; one is just geared more towards humanity, while the other is geared more towards nature.

SM/USUM - Focused around childhood, adulthood, coming of age, and responsibility- regarding yourself and regarding others. The children of Alola growing together through the island challenge, Selene being encouraged to enjoy her youth in Alola, Hau wanting to have fun in his own journey while also fearing growing up, Lillie having taken on a more mature role after dealing with an abusive mother, Gladion having to fend for himself and not having proper adults to guide him, etc.

In honor of the Sun and Moon series finishing 4 years ago, I have made a complete watch guide for the series. Have you never seen the show and want to? Trying to rewatch an episode but can’t remember the number? This guide has it all! This guide also has episodes noted as “filler” in case the episode count is a large commitment (I would recommend watching all the episodes but I get it). Notes:

“Filler” and “plot” are noted as such because in my opinion there is no such thing as a filler episode in the Pokemon anime. The term is not applicable to something like the Pokemon anime as there is no true source material. I just use the term to describe episodes that you can skip as they aren’t referenced again.

I opted to be vague about the climaxes in the Nebby Arc, Poipole Arc, and the entirety of the League Arc because explaining anything gives a major spoiler.

I count a single arc as a narrative thread with a clear start and end that lasts for multiple episodes. In the cases of the 3 islands, the end of the arc is the Grand Trial. For what I call the Nebby and Poipole Arc, there is a clear first episode and last episode of the arc.

While the Ultra Guardian missions can come across as not “plot”, I consider them necessary watches because they are tied to the Poipole Arc and to a lesser extent worldbuilding. However any Ultra Guardian mission after the Poipole arc is completed aren’t considered as “plot” in my opinion

Any “filler” episode with the note “would recommend to watch”, are just fun episodes in my opinion. Notably, SM57 has some amazing animation work and SM114 has an amazing battle in it.

I do not know how long it will take me to get from Iccirus to Akala, but I am willing to endure this journey if I am to get some semblance of assistance…or even an answer as to how all of this arose to begin with. I know I was experimented on and have the partial genetic code of a Naganadel within my DNA, but why?

This may take me a few days and I may encounter some connection issues flying over the open ocean, but I will try to give updates on my progress. It is better to try than to sit idly and do nothing.

002 with Ochette?

Ochette, my beloved (some spoilers in the "wish would have happened" and "headcanon" sections at the bottom):

How I feel about this character: LOVE HER, LOVE HER, LOVE HER, she's my favorite character from the game, which was unexpected since I didn't have any strong opinion on her going in, aside from a vague sense of apprehension since "animal people" tend to end up being poorly-to-clumsily written fantasy racism allegories in a lot of fantasy stories I've come across (which wasn't entirely off the mark for how the beastlings were handled by the writers overall, but there's enough okay to decent writing here that I still think Ochette is one of the most compelling characters with a ton of potential complexity depending on how the text is interpreted).

All the people I ship romantically with this character: No one, but mostly for lack of any romantic chemistry with any of the other characters, main or NPCs. Which is really funny considering I headcanon Ochette as kinda sorta basically pansexual, and she's one of two characters from the main playable cast that I don't headcanon as some variation of ace. I definitely think she's had crushes before and will probably find a partner at some point in the future of her life, just...not from any of the named characters we meet in the game.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I think she remains on good terms with all the other main characters even when they go their separate ways after the story concludes, and I just love how varied the dynamics she has with everyone are. Love her dynamic with Mahina/Akala too, Ochette and her bestie for life. I also think it's possible that Ochette takes over for Juvah well before he dies, and that he acts as her mentor/advisor for a bit while she gets accustomed to the role of island warden, but that he also enjoys his early retirement--and once Ochette's really grown into the role, Juvah begins to dote on her a bit as if she was his child/grandchild.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I think Ochette gets done dirty by the writers and general fandom. Moreso the general fandom than the writers, since I've seen a lot of fans write her off as the goofy, childish genki (fox)girl, and despite the writers also kind of doing this, her canon writing at least has the potential to be read as deeper than what appears on the surface. I'm of the opinion that she's actually one of the most emotionally intelligent and mature characters of the main cast, and that she's actually way more in tune with all the other characters than even they realize. Like, she knows who she can joke around with and who's a bit more serious, and where everyone's personal boundaries seem to be, and often it feels more like she's navigating a cultural/linguistic barrier than being naïve or childish (in my opinion). I mean she's totally got a lot of energy and is goofy at times (i.e. "PARDY-HARDY!!"), but that's not the sum total of her character either.

As mentioned earlier, all the beastlings kinda suffer from iffy writing, bc it seems like the writers were genuinely trying to explore the "what if there were people who had literal animal characteristics; how would their communication be different, how would their physiology be different, etc." questions, but the writing veered into a lot of tasteless "island savage, noble savage" tropes, which...kinda happens a lot with animal-people in fiction. So I'm not trying to hand-wave the racist tropes or anything, but it also seems like the writers made an attempt (however poor) to give the beastlings a culture, and that culture's different enough that part Ochette's character arc and interactions with other characters can be read as her translating what she encounters to try and make sense of it, or otherwise trying to translate her own experiences in a way so that the others understand her.

(i.e. the "girls talk about love" tavern banter, Ochette doesn't really understand what the other three are talking about at first bc they use the words "like" and "love" which honestly, in English at least, have several meanings and would be confusing to someone coming from a language where the differences between the English definitions of "like/love" were more obvious; but when Throne mentions loving dogs and how they wag their tails, Ochette draws the connection that they're talking about "like/love" the same way a dog who's wagging its tail likes someone bc it's implied that beastling communication is more like animal communication--i.e. based on body language, scent, etc.--and so after doing the mental translations Ochette's like "oooh, gotcha, yeah that's super embarrassing for me when that happens" as she does understand what the other girls are talking about even if there was a slight disconnect about what topic they were discussing at first).

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Would have loved to see at least a conversation or something between Ochette and Temenos regarding the Dark Entity and Roi's last words bc there's...a lot of unpack there for the two of them. Also I think Petrichor should have appeared at least once in Ochette's story, I think it would have been interesting to see how the two interacted, especially since they're supposed to be narrative foils. Like the "dark hunter" gets name-dropped a few times and then we never get much past that, and Ochette's so focused on finding the creatures of legend that she doesn't do her own investigation or anything, which leaves it all sort of...way too open. I kinda wanted to see Ochette have a reaction to the memory at Toto'haha's flame as well, the way Partitio and Hikari react to the memories they see at the Crackridge and Hinoeuma flames like...you're telling me Ochette saw the Darkling maul the person who had tortured it for years and doesn't have anything to say on this? After how her battle with the Darkling ended??

a headcanon: Hmm, aside from things I've already written...I don't think Ochette met Ori until waaaay after the events of the main story arc. Like I know all the traveler arcs are kinda separate in the sense of like, "no, the second Prince of Ku who currently has a hugeass bounty on his head is not apparently just sitting on the bar stool next to Partitio as he talks to the richest man in the west" or anything like that, but we do get the travel banters and insofar as I can recall Partitio never has a travel banter with Ochette where Ori gets brought up. I feel like that was intentional given Ochette's ability to clock exactly what is going on with a person given their scent (she figured out Osvald was still a loving father before he did, she could smell the shadow in Hikari, she could smell Claude's evil on Pirro's tomb, etc.) so like, I get why Ori isn't present around Ochette (although imagining a "Hey, Pardy, that girl smells like Sadness Incarnate" would be a crazy conversation that could have existed), but it also means she was apparently just...doing other stuff and literally managed to miss Ori Every Single Time which is wild. Like I can imagine Partitio telling Ochette about this weird girl who keeps popping up seemingly out of nowhere, and Ochette's just so frustrated bc she wants to meet Ori but keeps missing her, and how do they keep missing each other when Ochette can track a squirrel halfway across a gulch.

Speaking of Partitio, since he comes out of his Ch1 coming straight out of a poverty-stricken town and lifestyle, I imagine he's really underweight when he joins up with the others. Given that Ochette's the main hunter/provider at her home, she probably just shifts those duties to making sure the party is well-fed, and was extremely concerned about Partitio when they first meet.

Also she gives nicknames to everyone...except Temenos. Going back to my "Ochette seems to be in tune with everyone and know their boundaries" thing, I think this might indicate that Temenos just doesn't really do nicknames for whatever reason. I'm thinking Ochette had a conversation with him about this (maybe suggesting a few nicknames that he shot down, and she got the sense that it made him uncomfortable--although Throne gets away with calling him Detective, but that's also a far cry from like, Temmy or Tem), and she respects his boundaries enough not to push the issue. Although on the topic of nicknames, I think it took her the longest to come up with Hikarin (and by longest I mean maybe a few extra minutes as compared to everyone else), simply because nicknames for "Hikari" aren't as intuitive.

Hi! Can you tell us more about Team Tempest? Is their story one that you've been developing for a while? Any fun facts? I haven't played a PMD game since the original for the GBA- does their story follow the plot of the more recent games? Loving your writing so far!

Hi, thanks so much for asking about em! Team Tempest are the worms that rot my brain. XD More under the cut, since this gets long!

I first conceived Selkie and Shadow as characters in uhhhh early 2018? They came from a nuzlocke run I was doing of Pokemon Ultra Sun that wiped on Akala lol. I originally designed them to be part of a collab PMD comic I was gonna make with a couple of friends, where we each had a team that we would right for. Team Tempest was my gang for the comic, and I essentially designed them to be the story's antagonists. They were basically the Team Skull of the story, the bully team that makes life hard for the good guys. However, the collab never got off the ground, but I fell in love with the characters and kept them around!

My original plan was to tell Selkie and Shadow's story through a PMD comic called Spectrum, that was going to be set in the same universe as Finding Your Roots. The comic was supposed to be part of a trilogy series that was going to include FYR and a Firered nuzlocke comic that I abandoned two updates in, and it was meant to be the ending to an overarching story that would be told with the three comics together. Spectrum included Selkie and Shadow essentially as villain protagonists, and Lyn, Margarine, and Thistletooth were the good guy characters who would save the world Selkie and Shadow were seeking to destroy.

Selkie, in her original conception, was both very similar and very different from her current iteration. She was not mentally ill so much as just a straight-up abusive monster. She was the terror of the guild, constantly bullying and abusing the guild's weakest members, and she would essentially make use of Shadow's illusion magic to psychologically torture other guild members and get them to obey her whims.

Shadow was originally Selkie's biggest victim in this. She was highly abusive of him, but he latched onto her hard for reasons I can't quite elaborate on yet because it's spoilers for Till World's End. Shadow's arc was originally going to heavily involve making new friends with Lyn's team and using these new connections to break out of the abusive relationship. By the end of Spectrum, Shadow was meant to turn against Selkie and help Lyn & co defeat her and save the world. In the end, he was actually supposed to get together with Margarine!

However, Spectrum never got off the ground! It was too large-scale of a project to take on at the time, since I was trying to draw FYR and was really overwhelmed with the scope of that project. Taking on another big comic at the time wouldn't have worked out for me. Eventually I started working on other comic projects aside from FYR, got busy with those, and permanently tabled Spectrum. It wasn't a comic I was interested in bringing to life anymore. My interests had moved on.

I came back to Selkie and Shadow because, a few years after tabling Spectrum, I became interested in writing about a certain brand of mental illness called personality disorders. I wanted to write a love story between two characters with heavy mental illness, and the exact nature of those mental illnesses brought Team Tempest back to mind. I always cherished those characters so dearly and wanted to properly finish their story someday, and I realized it was a perfect opportunity to tell their story through prose! I revamped the characters to make room for the new aspects I wanted to bring into them. Shadow's character was altered somewhat, but Selkie is the one who got the biggest revamp. She's still a pretty bad person and can be abusive, but her nature is significantly different from how it was before. Selkie, in this new iteration, isn't a complete abusive sadist. She's got her flaws, absolutely, but she is not the villain of her own story anymore.

Here is some original concept art of Selkie and Shadow from Spectrum, back from 2018-2019! A lot of the art of them is grayscale because Spectrum was gonna be a grayscale comic.

An Old AU that’s been living in my brain for almost 10 years.

Ash comes to Alola for a Training Arc™ and gets dragged into the plot of SM (Games)

Other details include

Ash being around 16-17. Hau being like 11-13. Lillie being ~12. Gladion being ~14.

Ash helps Kukui construct the Pokemon League for Alola because Ash has connections & Kukui wants to make Alola’s first League an absolute banger. So he’s aiming for it to be an Island Challenge Champion + Pokemon League Vet Tournament. Only people who have simply participated in previous Leagues can attend, not winners.

generic-ass tags would include something along the lines of BAMF!Ash, Aura!Ash, Smarter!Ash, etc etc because I was fuckin basic man

Also Ash’s Pidgeot is back, she’s there and she’s lovely. Ash also gets a Rockruff. #MiddayDogSupremacy

Speaking of dogs, Gladion gets Midnight and Hau gets Dusk because he deserves the special good boy.

And sooooo, this weekend's unlikely Netflix bonding with my dad is... wait for it... Love is Blind. Jusko. Wrong move because my dad was cringing but as a legit marites, hala sige. Wala na akong mahanap na iba pa kasing show or movie dahil napaka clunky ng HBO Go kahit andami kong gustong panoorin doon. He asked what the hell is up with our generation and how on earth can this series have a number of seasons. LELS.

Love is Blind is indeed a social experiment on steroids. And I really see it as "trash" content dressed to the nines. Hahahahahaha. My soul sis and I also bond over it but we don't have debriefs. In fairness sa character development arc ng tatay ko, when were talking about this thing, meron ng pagtanggap ng fault ng sangkalalakihan na at the end of it all, ang palay ay tinutuka ng manok. Hindi na sa sphere masyado na 'pag may palay, wala ng palag, ganern. OHHH, CHILD.

Ash vs Gladio und vs Kaki sind einfach immer Kämpfe, auf die ich mich hier freue. Der Mohn Plot geht los und die Folge mit Mallows Mutter halt echt eines der höchsten Events, wegen dem Theme

Gegen Hapu nicht mein Fave, aber das macht die anderen Events nicht schlechter und Hapu selbst ist ja auch echt gut eingebaut und gewöhnt sich mehr an die Gesellschaft, hat ihren Aufstieg zum Kahuna

It had been roughly three days since arriving in Alola and although he had gotten signed up for the special lessons he'd be getting in Mantine Surfing, he hadn't actually started yet. The person who was planning on helping him had to make an emergency run to Akala Island which left Grusha sitting in the shade and with his loyal hound, Togo, beside him. The sun had long set and they had already eaten, so that meant... just relaxing until they decided to go back to their hotel room.

It truly was relaxing and beautiful here all in one, but it unsettled Grusha for some reason, and while he hadn't honed in on it yet, it had him jumping at shadows. Deciding to text Kianga on a whim and ask him about it, his cousin simply asked if perhaps it was because he felt alone in such a large and unknown ( to Grusha, anyway ) region. It struck the ice-type expert and while replying yes, he got reminded he wasn't alone. He had Togo and all his other 'mons with him.

... And yet he still felt this way. A deep-seated loneliness and the fear of the dark as it were. Flashbacks to Geeta were always at the back of his mind... and he had to wonder if there was some way to get past it... or if he was doomed to endure it for yet a longer time.

        PERHAPS IT WAS BOLD OF HIM TO ASSUME that no one or nothing else would be on this trail. HANZO did not fair well in crowded places, where strangers and spectators might look in awe or horror of a BEAST from another dimension, ( it did not look like a beast, but its blade could cut through the thickest steel, ) and Kubo KNEW THAT. Whenever he practiced he often took to obscure paths and secret hideaways where little else could find them, and a wild KARTANA might be safe to emerge from the jungle canopy.

         This would not be one of those days, as a SILVER BEAST came quick and fast, and in his childish whimsy the boy had failed to notice in time.

        HE SUCKED IN A DEEP GASP, and dug his shoes into the earth, the momentum sending his shamisen into recoil against his belly. SLAM -- he nearly tumbles backward, but when he looks over his shoulder to see where Hanzo is, the KARTANA is already FLEEING.

        ... The faintest rustle of leaves indicates its exit.
