i feel a bit like im looking through a glass window.. (just a discussion! im so fascinated by all of the different views of bells hells!) ive never seen the hells as particularly superior or having big egos. the nein were outside of society in their own ways, so there wasnt being above or below anyone because they were nobodies, invisible (and often trying to be).

the hells are inside of society, and theyre a mixed bag of at the bottom and upwards of being noticed but seen as inconsequential to those above them. ashton and laudna can be a bit out there, both too cast aside to not feel a bit vindictive when they do have a moment of being above someone (aka being recognized as the fuckers who squashed luda and then went and smushed The god-eater in their friend).

then (and this is very funny to me, that theyre on the same level in my tier lmao) chet and dorian; mr. master toy-maker himself and the prince of everyones dreams tbh,, its less so for chet, but for dorian power is a bit of a norm. odd and unwieldy as it may seem to him, he wields it nonetheless.

fearne is in a league all her own, shes never been above or below anything, and anyone who thinks theyre above her is in for a surprise cause our witch doesnt give a shit, she was raised by The fate-stitcher. shes a bit like the nein, outside of it all.

then imogen and orym... imogen was isolated for her abilities, mother not in her life, father distanced from her, she knows power. shes resisted it all her life. id argue shes not heady with power, she exactly matches the power she holds right now. and orym? he was a whole ass guard. aside from will and derrig dying, before that he'd been a little cushy. loving mom, loving partner and the family that came with him, stable life within zephrah. he has no use for power or ego, but at this point he'll take what he can get to protect his loved ones.

very little of that seems like they think theyre above anyone, theyre just at the bottom and any amount of rising seems astronomical. also. it should be noted that i usually drink when im watching so maybe some of my chillness and blasé about the crazy shit that happens is influenced by that. i hope this didnt have many typos. if you did read thanks! i hope i worded this coherently and i hope youre having a good day man, all of us could use some good days lately

I appreciate wanting to have a conversation! I will, say i'm not entirely sure what point your getting at? Being above someone, imo, is not necessarily related to whether you are in or out of society. That is an intersectional factor to be considered, sure, but I would weigh raw power as a more applicable currency here. Fearne, for instance, as you pointed out, stands apart from society. She is unlike anything else and is therefore differentiated. But the way in which she stands out is by holding immense power via many different sources to create a single, deeply powerful amalgamated whole. And to be above someone in the context that we're discussing--or, at least, in the way I meant it--was more an effect of how you wield the power that you have. That was my ultimate gripe with the Hells' behavior was that it felt like they were wielding power in a mean-spirited way. Not at all to say the Nein have never done this--all the parties have at some time or another--but the Nein I feel are less predisposed to it, as a group that is perhaps more oriented toward figuring out how to use the power they have (scraped and clawed) their way into earning in a somewhat more thoughtful way (particularly in regard to their late-game/finale/post-canon appearances). Incidentally, this is well displayed in a conversation between Imogen and Caleb from Episode 111:

"Power is an illusion. [...] I try to earn, earn the gifts I have." The Nein worked very hard to reach a place where this could be the philosophy they embraced, with a lot of growing pains and evolution along the way. But in the beginning they were just broke ass two-bit adventurers running from or for their lives, which is an immensely different place to begin than a group of singular and unique people with a comfortable amount of money, magical items, and wealthy patrons that catapult you into the center of a cosmic conspiracy wherein you only become more powerful and more singular (and more powerful in your singularities, like ingesting titan shards and being imbued with the essence of pure possibility from a holy relic). I can see and appreciate, actually, the perspective of the Hells singularities isolating them nebulously outside of regular society and how that would not place them either above or below anyone (except, as I said, in the context of raw power) but my intent was more to point to how they used what power they had while engaging with others. And I'm not sure the Hells will ever approach it the way Caleb said he did, trying to "earn the gifts [he] has." Many of the Hells, I think, feel they have earned their gifts as a reward for their previous suffering, which is a dangerous way to engage with power. And I think that showed itself in the way they behaved at the end of the episode tonight.

Although Minjun always knew what his dreams in life were and he always held them close to his heart, he felt as if he was never blessed with the flowery path to embark on towards his dreams. myungbin likes to promote him constantly at the group’s lil ace and all-rounder because he firmly believes that he’s talented in both aspects of being an idol and actor while he claims others (junseo and yejun) fail at one while excelling at another

it’s 100% due to the fact that minjun is evidently the quietest one in the group and the boys has realized he’s far too shy to be able to compliment or praise himself

shares a room in the dorms with yejun and hyunwoo and that just ended up with them practically taking him under their wings and both trying to give him tips and tricks while trying to keep an extra eye on him

received mix reactions for the public because most of the boys have been in the public eye before and have showed themselves off at one point or another so seeing someone completely new rose eyebrows and some fans claimed it was unfair to those who were experienced aka junseo and yejun and myungbin

while others claimed the point of debuting a new group was to introduce new talent

although his company made him quit his part-time jobs once he was revealed, he’s managed to sneak his way into another so he can provide for his mom until his income is entirely stable

myungbin and him are joined at the hip, and it’s endearing because of how theyre quite literally drastic opposites so it brings another side out in each other!

wanted to go to university for acting but that wasn’t financially possible so he kind of bums off whatever hyunwoo learns and the elder just does his best to share whatever he learns!

he’s quite literally the baby for everyone in the group except junseo, just because junseo would rather be thrown out than treat someone younger like they’re actually...younger.

Comparing RWBY and YGO DM: The Handling and Evolution of Themes

Hey! Its been a hot minute since I last posted anything RWBY-related but Im laying in my bed right now and Im sick and bored so I guess we're doing this. Today I will do my best to analyze what I percieve to be the main themes and messages of both of these shows, or more specifically, how theyre handled narratively. Im mostly focusing on that part because, while these series do have similar themes and messaging, they are still a few things in which they are wildly different. And with that, lets start with this essay-post-thing!

1. Theres something we need to adress first

Okay so, before we can really talk about this, theres something I feel the need to clarify here: Neither of these stories was "planned from the beginning".

Now, I dont think a story being planned from the beginning or not nesscessarily makes the story any better or worse by default, however, it is still important to acknowledge because the way the story is planned is going to affect every facet of it. Things are not going to be foreshadowed properly, things are gonna be set up only for nothing to come of it, the story might drastically change directions, characters might act differently, etc, etc.

And, this is bit off-topic but, it's much better to just admit that the story was not planned than trying to pretend that it was. Like, there are a lot of reasons why I tend to be so forgiving towards YGO even though its not very good, but one of them is definitely the fact that, as far as Im aware atleast, the guy who wrote it isnt pretending to have had this big master plan all along and neither is the fandom. With RWBY on the other hand... yeaaaah, its kinda the opposite. From what Ive seen of RWBYs fandom, there seems to be this pretty popular narrative that everything was planned even though it clearly wasnt. Thats pretty bad and honestly lowers my opinion of the writers so much more than if they would just admit to not having a proper plan.

Like, I initially consumed YGO like this: Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters, Yu-Gi-Oh (aka Season 0), like, a quarter of the Yu-Gi-Oh manga (I still havent finished it)

In all three of these we have the character of Yami Yuugi, or just Yami. Broadly speaking, he is an ancient egyptian gamer spirit who lives in a magical puzzle that has not been solved for 3000 years until this highschooler named Yuugi Mutou comes along and solves it, thus setting him free and allowing him to possess Yuugi and have access to the vague magical powers of the puzzle.

In Duel Monsters he's perfectly fine most of time, morally speaking. There is an instance of him almost murdering a guy and its a bit unclear what exactly happens to those he mindcrushes but overall he's very much a pretty good guy. In Season 0 most of what he does is set up these games for bad people, where they will go insane no matter what they do. From how I understand this whole Shadow Game, Penalty Game stuff, if you lose a Shadow Game, you get violent and intense hallucinations and you will always cuz yknow, gamer spirit. But if you try to cheat, which most of the bad people do in this show, you get violent and intense hallucinations as a punishment.

Since the two anime are generally considered two different continuities, its perfectly fine that Yamis characterization is wildly different in both of them. But in the manga both of these characterizations appear, basically one after the other with no real arc or consequences, for that matter. Why is that? Simply put, someone thought it was a good idea to try to turn an episodic, very slice of life-y light-horror manga into a more traditional, more plot-driven battle shounen. From what Ive heard, it was apparently largely because of network interference or something, but the point is, it changed directions incredibly drastically with little planning and everyone knows this and I can understand that for the most part.

In RWBY we have the character of Blake Belladonna, who, in the first 3 volumes/seasons atleast, was this aloof, more toned down loner-type character with a pretty strong sense of justice. She's an in-universe marginilized racial minority and she clearly cares about racial injustice. The way its initially framed makes it seem like she had a very hard life and no stable support system, which is what eventually pushed her to join a Civil Rights group/Terrorist organization (good god, the Faunus subplot is so awful, I could write a whole essay about it but Im already de-railing rn so I'll just save that for later).

Then, in volumes 4-5 it turns out her father is actually like, the mayor or chief of this island-place called Menagerie and she grew up in this big mansion with multiple guards/servants. Oh and also, apparently "space is a commodity" on there, so theres that. She still retains large parts of her personality but she's kinda like, worse somehow I think. I cant really describe it in a meaningful way but I hope you get what Im saying anyway. Then in Volume 6 she confronted her emotional abuser Adam (sorry for not mentioning him sooner but yeah, he was like, her abusive boyfriend, which is something that a lot of people disagree with but I wont really say anything about it either way because I dont really feel any specific way) with her friend, Yang, and ended up killing him.

After all that, she pretty much lost the rest of her personality, as well as her arc about all the Faunus stuff. She just kinda became the meek, generically nice, recovering abuse victim. Why? Well, the actual reason is that they didnt plan out shit and are just kinda flying by the seat of their oversized clown-pants and if they and the fandom just admitted it, I would have less of an issue. I still wouldnt be as forgiving towards RWBY as I am towards YGO because the crux of the issue, for me, is just that I dont particulary like RWBY but also like. Do you really expect me to take MKEK seriously as writers after admitting to not have a timeline because iT wOuLd CaUsE pLoThOlEs?

However, since they want us to believe that everything was planned out from the beginning, the explaination would be.... Idk, they deliberately butchered one of their main characters?? Because.. they hate her?? Maybe????

So yeah, that was quite a detour however, I would like you to keep this mind going forward.

2. Themes of the Early Series'

First, what do mean by 'Early Series' for both of these shows respectively? Well, for YGO that would have to be Season 0 or if youre reading the manga, everything pre-Duelist Kingdom. Basically, the part of the series thats a episodic, very slice of life-y light-horror series.

For RWBY that would be the first three Volumes, also known as the Poser-Era. Back then it was just kinda an action series that took place at Anime Warrior Academy (also known as Beacon) with some pretty bare minimum worldbuilding, character-driven plots and developments but now its more of an epic high-fantasy story with more of an emphasis on plot as opposed to just action.

The themes and messages in Early YGO are kinda vague, very confusing to me and if you were to follow any of it literally that would be pretty bad. For now Im just gonna say the main themes are Friendship and Identity and mostly focus on the Identity aspect.

Now, it took me a little while to figure out RWBYs deal but I think the main themes for Volumes 1-3 are also Friendship and Heroism. Once again, I'll mostly focus on Heroism and touch on Friendship more briefly later.

I dont have much more to add to YGOs themes right now, so I'll briefly go over Heroism in RWBY.

In RWBYs setting there are these man-eating monsters called Grimm that have basically infected the planet. In order to deal with that, they have people called huntsmen and huntresses that kill them and protect people. Theyre trained at special academies like Beacon and go on missions there and stuff like that. Our four main characters, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang, are training to become huntresses and one day they go on this mission to clean up a grimm infested city block with one of their teachers. Obviously, that takes a long time so they have to camp out in one of the empty houses. Weiss, Blake and Yang cant sleep because theyve been thinking about this question that their teacher asked them when they were fighting grimm: "Why do you want to become a huntress?"

They have a heart to heart and we find out about their motivations; Weiss wants to bring honour back to her family, Blake want to distance herself from the White Fang (that terrorist organization I mentioned earlier) and as an extension from Adam, Yang wants to have a life of adventure. They also talk about why Ruby wants to be a huntress and it turns out that she judt wants to help people. Unlike the others, she has no motivation besides that. We're meant to listen to that and look at her as a sort-of personification of Heroism: kind, but not naive, strong and most of all, selfless. The others on her team are not portayed as bad for not being like Ruby by any means but we are clearly meant to admire her the most out of all of them.

Okay, now comes the part Ive been looking forward to the most:

3. How did these themes evolve in the Modern Series'?

Alright, before we can really delve into the way they evolved in YGO I'll have to give you a brief summary of the character progression. At the start of DM, during the Duelist Kingdom arc, Yami Yuugi is just that; A darker Yuugi. Hes more confident, bolder, his voice is deeper, hes somehow taller, more ruthless, all that good stuff. Notably, he doesnt actually seem more skilled than Yuugi even at the start of this story, but he's still dependent on Yami. Yami on the other hand, has no identity of his own or even hints at one at this point. He's just The Other Yuugi.

Then during the Battle City arc, they find out that Yami was actually a pharao prior to being sealed in the puzzle, he just didnt know because of amnesia, I guess. So now they need to find out his real name and then send him to the afterlife because hes meant to be dead, but not before saving the world from being swallowed by darkness, which is also a thing they have to do now.

Then we finally get to the Memory World arc, where Yami, Yuugi and the rest of the gang astralproject to ancient egypt via puzzle magic. Yami is trying to figure out what the hell is going on and who all these familiar people are, while Yuugi & Co are trying their best to help him. Then some weird shit happens and it turns out that all of that is not just Yamis sealed away memories, but also a giant D&D Shadow Game that will destroy the world if Yami loses. So now theres Pharao!Yami who is still clueless on the metaphorical and literal playing field and Player!Yami, who is kinda controlling himself now? I guess?? Yamis opponent, The Spirit of The Ring, has something similar to that going on where hes both controlling and properly participating in the game. So Player!Yami is now fighting against Player!TSoTR, Pharao!Yami is now fighting against Thief King Bakura (who is like, the human, ancient egyptian version of the Ring Spirit) and Yuugi is now fighting against Yami Bakura (who is like, the human, modern japanese version of the Ring Spirit). Yuugi gets Yamis real name, he and the gang go over to Pharao!Yami and tell him his name, meanwhile Player!Yami is also somehow helping as well and they defeat the Ring Spirit, thus saving the world. Then they travel to modern Egypt, the Ceremonial Duel happens and Yuugi wins, sending Yami to the Afterlife where he can finally rest and that was the series!

I originally wanted to recount the stuff that was going on with the Ring Spirit and his host as well because they parallel eachother, but this summary is already far too long and I think youll get the point without me needing to explain any more.

My point here is, that the story went from being vaguely about Identity, maybe? to being very clearly about Self-Discovery and Learning to Be Independent. I think this is a very good way to evolve the messaging of your story. How does RWBY track on that?

Well, uh... its not great. I will acknowledge that they have tried to introduce new themes and ideas since, even though I wont really be talking about them in this post. But yeah, the whole Heroism thing really regressed.

Like, I didnt explicitly say it when I was explaining grimm earlier, but theyre not going away. The grimm have always been there and people who sign up to become huntsmen and huntresses are effectively signing up for a job that will never truly be done, no matter what they do. Characters like Ruby and even more minor ones like Phyrrah have shown us that that doesnt matter when youre a hero. No life isnt worth saving, no grimm isnt worth killing, no criminal isnt worth arresting. Then, in volume 6 they find out about Salem. Salem is the Big Bad of the show, shes immortal, controls the grimm and is supposed to be very powerful.

What do our heroes do? They give up. Sike! They were just mindcontrolled by monsters or some shit, of course they didnt give up their mission (which is to bring an Important Macguffin to a city called Atlas, sorry I didnt mention it)!

But then they arrive in Atlas (which is llike, a city thats floating over another city called Mantle) and yknow, they do some plot stuff thats not really important right now until the city gets invaded by Salem and this big grimm army she has.

What do our heroes do? Well, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and some side characters are chilling, drinking tea in a mansion and Yang and the B Team were actually trying to do something, but even those efforts seem incredibly minimal.

Oh wait, I also forgot to mention that Ironwood (a fairly minor, vaguely antagonistic character up until now) wanted to lift Atlas even higher to save Atleasian civilians from danger while leaving Mantle vulnerable to Salems invasion.

What would be the most heroic thing to do?

A) Let Ironwood lift Atlas, get as much support as they can down to Mantle and save as many Mantle civilians as they can from the invasion

B) Prevent Ironwood from lifting Atlas but then split up in order to protect both Atlas and Mantle civilians

C) Prevent Ironwood from lifting Atlas and then dont do anything else

Congrats! If you choose C, you think exactly like the writers!

And I just

This is so mindboggling to me, I feel like I shouldnt even have explain how this is bad. And like, it wouldve been so easy to actually make them seem herokc through their actions, to make it seem like they did try but no.

I have never seen a central theme be this botched, how in the world did they do that? Why did they think it was a good idea for Ruby "The Embodiment of Heroism" Rose to sit in a mansion doing nothing, no planning, no organizing just ..... God, how are they this bad? Like, this doesnt even have anything to do with it being planned in any way, this is just straight up incompetence

4. Very briefly touching on friendship

The friendship is awful and its not solely because they all have the same opinions. They barely interact with eachother outside their designated pairs which leads to it all feeling incredibly hollow. Theyre also practically indistingushable from one another now, which is a shame because it wasnt always like that. Like, I dont think the characters were that well-developed in earlier volumes but they were very well-characterized. But now we've gotten to a point where you can literally copy and paste one characters dialogue onto another and literally nothing changes, it really sucks.

5. Some closing words

Damn, this took way longer than I thought it would and now Im pretty exhausted. I have no idea how yall always write these but props to you! I feel like this ended up a bit rambly but overall, Im pretty proud.

Please let me know what you think of the points I brought up! Id also really appreciate some tips on how to get better at these longer posts because I am planning on writing more in the future (not the near future, probably but yknow).

after a fictional animal like something one of richard's various extended family members' small children is reading and when said small child comes over to visit their uncle and their uncle's very good friend with whom he lives thomas will point it out to them and they will be very excited about it

also i think it would be funny if everyone in like 1912-1914 were all friends w/ the stable cat but ONLY secretly... they are mean to it in public but in private it's like yes here are the remnants of the remnants of a chicken/pheasant/fish (theyre not knowledgeable about what cats eat) i have stolen from mrs patmore. and they all have different names for it, of varying creativity. and sybil makes gwen show her the cat (gwen has a very silly artistic name for it that starts with an honorific that ONLY sybil gets to know and when she tells her about it she elides the fact that it is her personal nickname for the cat and implies that someone else came up with it and everyone downstairs just went along with it and it stuck because she's embarrassed) and thomas is there cooing at it. thank you for coming to my ted talk

okay basically i’ll do a summary in case y’all dont wanna read his SAD story. tw: domestic abuse, abandonment, alcohol abuse.

Summary: ARES BYERS, 23, SENIOR.

A finance major at LexU.

He’s currently doing both soccer and boxing, but soccer would be for his athletic scholarship. ( he has a full ride )

Boxing would definitely be like more of an anger relief thing and honestly, he defs loves soccer but he knows he can’t rely on that for a forever thing. plus he defs things boxing is good money, yknow that side hustle illegal shit

Loves art like a lot.

He visits his siblings probably every other day or whenever he can because he really is so protective of them or he’d even bring them to campus all the time even though his “ step dad” hates it.

His relationship with his mum is still super strained because she really is in denial about her toxic abusive situation with his “step dad” and hes trying to tell her hes going to get her out and she just does not want to.

His mum is an alcoholic and his stepdad is physically abusive to them like most of her past partners which is something ares has been dealing with since he was a child.

hes solely doing finance to get a good job to get his mum and siblings out of the situation theyre in now.

he wants sole custody of his 3 siblings but i mean, he needs a stable job and place to live aka finance

has 3 younger sisters who he adores.

HISTORY STUFF ( YIKES SOZ ) Its long everybody.

He was born to teenage parents who hadn’t even graduated high school yet. They had a pretty tumultuous situation and his dad really didn’t think they should have a kid, but his mum thought that it would bring them closer together and make his dad mature…. Which definitely didn’t end up happening.

once Ares was born his dad stuck around for about a year or two before basically abandoning them and offering to give up parental rights to his mum Alycia.

That’s when things basically just went downhill. It really messed with his mum, obviously she was supporting ares on her own with no support from anyone, no family and very little money, at the time she had been trying to go to school but had to give that up once she was the sole provider for Ares. And the fact that someone she thought was going to be her partner abandoned her just led her down a pretty dark path.

It was just his mum and him after this. There wasn’t a lot of stability for them. His mum for a while was the only family he had. his grandma wasn’t really very supportive of his mum having the baby and living with his dad etc and they’re relationship was quite strained too.

• By the time Ares was about 12 he was already probably mature beyond his years, his mum by then had basically gave herself up to alcohol and had some pretty bad shady boyfriends in the house. Ares would definitely still vividly remember like explosive fights between her and boyfriends where things got physical between them and even to Ares from multiple different boyfriends.

His schooling was just.. a mess he definitely repeated a grade or two because of the commotion of home life.

Regardless though he was still VERY protective of his mum even if he felt pretty abandoned by her, he was just confused why she was letting these people come around when they were better on just the two of them. But that really didn’t last long, his mum ended up having multiple other kids with different people.

So he has Maeva, Orion and Lea who are his half siblings and theyre all under 12.

I think he definitely grew up faster than most because he always felt an urge to protect his mum and his siblings now especially. he worried about them all. He was definitely an anxious kid.

• His mum ended up marrying but honestly Ares couldn’t hate his stepfather more. He would refuse and still does refuse to call him dad or stepdad because he truly thinks he’s a piece of shit. Like he knows he treats his mum like shit and hes had no problem being physical with the both of them and once ares got old enough he really did start fighting back which only made it worse.

There’s probably been multiple times where its been ares calling the police on him after he fought with his mum but as usual his mum always takes his side which honestly fucked ares up constantly but eventually as soon as he could he was working even at like 13/14 because he was desperate to save money thinking he could help his family get out of the fucking mess they were in.

His number one priority is and will always be his mum and his sisters even though deep down I think he has some kind of resentment towards his mum he’ll always love her. He just wishes that she would take his side especially against his “ step dad”

Basically though once he was about that age he realised he really needed to start focusing on school, grades and sport anything he could so he had some kind of chance to get into a good uni and get his family out of everything. Like he knew he’d need somewhere he could get a full ride since theyd never be able to afford it and somewhere still nearby so he could look after his sisters still.

His stepdad knew though that ares was working even when he wasn’t supposed to be and he really took advantage of that, he was definitely beyond lazy and ares basically always felt more of a parent to his sister than anyone else.

So basically he ended up graduating – late however he was 19 when he graduated high school because of repeats and luckily enough he got a full ride to Lexington university and he really took it within a heartbeat. He ended up choosing finance not because its anything he’s interested in but because he wanted something that would pay really well so he can support his family, but he knew he didn’t have 8 years to do medical school etc.

Personality:

he can have a shitty attitude won’t lie, like he’s very focused and set on what he wants and needs to do and he wants no one getting in the way of that.

He’s super into boxing to release a lot of the pent up anger he obviously feels and really because he wanted to know how to fight back all the assholes his mum had in his life.

He is can be extroverted and talkative but I think with the people who aren’t close to him or to people he doesn’t have a real trust in it’s probably a pretty surface level. Its never about his family or past in fact I think that part would be something very few if any people know about.

his sisters aka his pride and joy, he probs has pictures of them in his wallet.

He likes to keep things light hearted as a distraction from himself but he definitely doesn’t let people in easily.

He really tries to avoid confrontation because it’s so triggering to him but he does have a temper which is what scares him. He is like paranoid he’s going to become a product of his environment so he goes against that as much as he can but if people come for his family or anything he would lose it.

Can be aloof.

Has a hard time trusting anyone has good motives or will stick around because of much he’s been abandoned and how manipulative the people in his mums were.

He’s cynical.

He really holds onto grudges pretty easily.

His ass is pretty sarcastic and witty, a huge smart ass.

He’s not into commitment right now or he’s avoiding. Like the only examples he’s ever seen of relationships have been a mess and it’s not exactly his priority. ( but lbr  whats the fun in that. )

He tries to abstain from alcohol but he finds that pretty hard. When he does he tends to drink pretty heavily which is why he tries not to because he knows it obviously has caused his mum so much grief.

Hes an escapist.

He’s really super protective though, of the people he does have in his life I think he really wants to give those people the things he didn’t have so he overcompensates and would literally fight whatever or whoever for the people around him.

he hates authority.

•He definitely is really big into art but that’s also something really personal he doesn’t share much and he knows like that isn’t going to provide for his family which is exactly why he's done finance.

And well my dream is pp long so bear w me 😔 i don't have the 'read more' function on mobile so i apologise in advance for everyone who comes across this !! I'll edit the 'read more' into it when I can 😊 ( i hav edited it hehehehe )

SO . actually there are several parts to this dream and I woke up between the first two parts but ... YEA.

At first I was home but a cat had gotten inside my house, I already had two cats ( my current cat and the one that will have died one year ago exactly tomorrow... yes five days after my birthday december is a cursed month for me. but if u wanna know abt him just search 'tchoupi' on my blog ) and I don't think my girl was okay w that new cat ? also new cat looked wonky sjhsjsh ? I wasn't sure abt its behaviour bc it seemed like it cld get irritated fast. In the end my mother told me to throw it out so I did against my will but when I saw it walk away... it had a missing leg.... I was like oh shit dude no come back... so I went and opened the front door and it came back running !!! I couldn't leave it like that w/o food if it already was incapacitated in a way. so that was my new cat. everything ends well ( I'm pp sure I forgot a part of that part but it's not the one I'm interested in )

SECOND PART... THE CÅSTLË. i was in a castle that was more medieval than renaissance styled or whatever the fuck i didnt study architecture but yes this. it had a courtyard with a fountain and that courtyard had a beautiful view on The Unknown ( aka fields and forests and stuff yknow just. The view ) but there were also bridges ( not the rock kind the "we use it in movies to make a character dramatically fall after the villain cut the rope" kind ) and little paths to go to The Unknown. there was a built-in church ( not a christian but i guess that was a smart choice given most attendees were fire emblem characters and they were definitely christians ) and also stables i guess ? but the front stables were empty and i didn't get to see the actual stables. the front stables had a pathway going around them ( there was a front stable on the left and on the right, with the courtyard being a little pushed back ? like if you left the end of the stable pathway you were already past the courtyard )

so now picture all ot this but suddenly the sky is super dark and everything is grim and gloomy. like a typical halloween movie. everything that was neat feels now worn out and the pathways are definitely scary, nobody wants to go there !

i was looking for my friends ( aka mercedes from fire emblem three houses ) but somehow couldn't find them, a fight broke out between ingrid and annette ( also fire emblem three houses ) and i don't like rich horse girls nor do i like racists so i was about to beat ingrid's ass. this big dude comes in and threatens me so i scold him and he and ingrid both go away. i win. i talk to more people but they're all acting weird except annette i guess. whatever weirdos i'm out

next i keep looking, but now i'm not alone - i'm not sure of whether it's a real presence or just a spirit until the end of this sequence where this boy tells me where to go and what to do to fix things a little, so i go into both stable pathways and end up being possessed twice ( demonic possession isn't as bad as they tell you i turned out fine ) so when the boy tells me where to go next i'm like "are we getting possessed a third time ?" he chuckles. ( i am gay so that was cute )

but we don't get any time to do that third thing ! we get out of the pathways and everyone is planning to go fight whatever is beyond The Unknown ! i look at the boy and awake me now pictures him as kraam from the stranded. cool i have a nice partner in crime i'm okay with that. the others leave, there's a lot of them but a second group is getting ready ! so kraam-but-not-quite grabs my arm firmly but like he doesn't hurt me or anything and we start going into The Unknown as well. im like hey wtf do we do now. and he tells me oh these two groups are going mad that couldn't be us let's go find the stray kids ( awake me now realises this is ~cringe~ but dream me was like whoa a solitary group of ppl who fight bigger evils ! BC YES THAT WAS WHAT SKZ WERE DOING IN THIS DREAM but i never met them ) so we can join forces w them and defeat these ppl. i look back. i see the second group from afar bc they have torches. im like wow this is like beauty and the beast.

something happens, idk what, but kraam starts running ! i'm a slow runner so i thought oh fuck not again but i ran after him anyway, the next bit is us running through a sort of jungle ( the sky is clear again ) and like its CRAZY i fucking loved that bit bc WOO ADVENTURE !! ( im a sagittarius )

then we slip between two trees' leaves and end up in a facility. we keep running bc if we stay there We Will Die. suddenly i am slowed down ( which leads me to believe before that he was holding my wrist but released my wrist when he slipped between the trees ) but he checks on me which i appreciate because that means he would rather die with me than survive without me, romance luv

his father ! the bastard. tries to kiss me in front of his mother. im like lmao dude thats disgusting die n go to catholic hell. i push him away and tell him off, he gets pissed but i cant go look for kraam bc his brothers r telling me abt how we're gonna go on a road trip. im like ? the world is abt to end tho ? but apparently my dream rly wanted a drama plot so fine.

his brothers have, allegedly, caught on to an alleged potential relationship between us. no im not gonna complain abt it im lonely and sad and gay so my dream fills in for me. theyre talking abt how theres not enough room for all of us in the van unless i sit on kraam for the trip but they ( specifically the one brother who oddly reminds me of dbk rain ) somehow make it into a sexual joke ? being me tho i didnt get it KSBSKDH... they were like talking abt legs ?? i remember it was abt how it wouldnt work with smth with four legs 'unless i could go with three' and like i dont even know what the hell that was supposed to mean we're talking abt a van not a horse ygwim ?

idk if i woke up after that but my brain did picture both me complaining to kraam abt his dad doing that and him getting quietly angry and just telling me to not come close to him again just in case hed try it again AND the beginning of the 'road trip' where i was indeed using kraam as a seat. and i was sleeping bc idk maybe i was tired from the running ! i hope my next dream is the continuation bc boy that was a whole drama episode

also i gave up and started calling him just kraam but it wasnt kraam ofc he just had kraams face from what i remember ! but he wasnt kraam at all

this post is a great starting point! :) there are probably a few things missing from the supplies list i included in that post (i really gotta update that post), so here’s a more accurate one! Since you already have your betta, this post might help you out more :) more under the ‘cut’/’read more’/’keep reading’! :)

Supplies

-2.5+ gallon tank the tank you have comes in a 1 and 2.5 gallon kit. The 1 gallon measurements are 7.5" x 7.5" x 10.25" and the 2.5 gallon measurements are 12.3" x 9.4" x 11.4". hopefully now you know which tank you have! the 1 gallon kit comes with a little bubbler (not a filter, just an aerator / air stone) and an under gravel filter (how effective under gravel filters are at holding a cycle is debated, but for now, don’t worry about that) and the 2.5 gallon kit comes with a filter (but it’s way too strong for a betta...it would have to be baffled).

if you have the 1 gallon kit (it looks like you’ve got the air stone, so probably the 1 gallon) you can get a sponge filter! however, in a tank so small, a stable cycle is hard to keep :/ in my opinion, you’d be best off spending 10 dollars on a 10 gallon tank (even if it is sparsely decorated) (rn at petco the 1$/gallon sale is going on so 10 gallon tanks are just $10!) first, before getting a filter. why, you ask? well, because if you only have 1 betta, waste will build up muuuch slower in a 10 gallon than in a 1 gallon and you could honestly probably get away with not having any filtration for a while...since the bioload (how much waste is produced by a fish) of 1 betta is so small...as long as you do large weekly water changes (at least 50% 1x a week). also, any heater (even those small 7.5watt ones, which are the lowest watt ones i’ve found) will be unsafe for a 1 gallon, mostly because the risk is pretty high for overheating the tank :/ with a 2.5+ gallon one, you could get an adjustable heater! these ones are great and the price is just as great! only downside is that they have short cords (i own 3...but its not an issue since all of my tanks are pretty darn close to their outlets) :/ think of waste (ammonia, which is toxic) building up like this: you’ve got 1 gallon of water and 10 gallons of water. in this analogy, colored drops (like food coloring or something) will represent your fish’s waste. let’s say you put 5 drops of coloring (waste) into the 1 gallon tank and 5 drops into the 10 gallon tank. the 1 gallon will be a lot darker right? because in the 10 gallon the color will be way more diluted! same goes for waste. (this is also why ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are measure in “ppm” or parts-per-million. it’s a proportion instead of an exact measurement: like 1/2 (proportion) vs of .25 inches (exact measurement) if that makes sense) - water conditioner it removes chlorines (some also remove chloramines and heavy metals) from the water and makes the water safe for the fish

- filter – How sponge filters work + how to set them up – Pros + cons of sponge filters - heater (76-82F) i have three of these heaters and they’re great! the cords are really short tho, thats the big downside :T this post has a ton of other heater suggestions! - thermometer glass ones are my personal fave, and way more accurate than the sticker kind. i think theyre 1-2$ at walmart! - 1+ hide (caves, terra cotta pots, an ornament, just a place where they can hide out or chill in) - decor (lots of decor ideas listed below!) - silk/live plants (plastic isn’t the best idea since plastic plants can tear a betta’s delicate fins) – craft mesh “betta beds” (you can buy plastic craft mesh sheets at walmart for like 1-2$ and you get a few big sheets!) – dollar store flowers (remove wire, soak to make sure they don’t bleed) - pvc, terra cotta pot, mug, glass, jar hides (your cabinet, goodwill, dollar store) – dollar store betta tanks – diy decor – craiglist, facebook marketplace, offerup, letgo, etc. BE HUNTIN FOR THEM DEALS! – anacharis is pretty cheap: one bunch at petco is 2.99. the stuff grows like CRAZY and it makes a great floating plant! it’ll send of lots of runners and in no time your fish will have a big anacharis jungle to swim in! plants also use the nutrients in fish waste to grow. since anacharis grows pretty fast, it uses up lots of waste! i have it in my 10 gallon with little led light and it went from 8″ to 24″ in 2-3 weeks...that’s crazy imo. – petco and petsmart usually have plants and supplies for sale on their website but not in the store. if you show the cashier the online price, they’ll match it at the checkout so make sure to do some online window shopping before you go! – hobby lobby and micahaels have a ton of their floral stuffs on sale right now as well! just be sure to avoid glitter and remove any metal stems, etc. in the ‘diy decor’ link above, there’s a video that shows you how to make diy silk plants! you definitely DONT have to make plant weights tho...you can usually set silk plants on the bottom of the tank no problem, and there’s nothing wrong with floating plants either~ - quality food i like new life spectrum thera +a pellets (long name, i know, but i know u can buy them at petco!) or omega one pellets or the betta buffet flakes. frozen foods like blood worms and shrimp are also good additions to a betta’s diet :) hikari betta bio gold is an okay food (i know they sell it at walmart, so that’s why i wanted to mention it), but its got fillers. for now, whatever you have for food will be okay :) just wanted to give you some options in case you want to change your food in the future. - test kit this kit is my favorite! the value is faaaantastic and the tests give more specific readings than the strips :p - lid bettas can be jumpers so lids are recommended. if your tank doesn’t come with a lid or is an odd shape and you can’t buy one, then craft mesh may be good option! it’s really cheap at walmart or craft stores and you can cut it with regular scissors. it’s basically plastic mesh…you can weigh it down or create a frame for it since it’s pretty light ^-^ - light if you don’t buy a kit that comes with a hood+light combo, or any light at all…you’ll probably need one! leds are a good choice :) i just bought 2 of these nicrew lights and they work amazingly! definitely bright enough for at least medium light plants and super white~ you can also buy clip-on LED with a gooseneck like this one (tho i’d be sure to check the measurements on lights as cheap as these!) or even a light from home depot~ for a tank that small, you could also use a desk lamp. with a desk lamp you could probably grow low-light plants like anacharis and anubias. when i had a little planted vase on my desk, i just went to goodwill and got one for $3 ^-^” - water change bucket honestly just really helpful to have...if you have one bucket (or any large container, tbh) you can empty old tank water into it and then after you’ve dumped that out, you can fill it with new tank water and add conditioner to prepare the water before adding it to the tank!

- siphon is optional, and for smaller tanks a turkey baster works! you can also just get some airline tubing and use that...same principle! siphons usually have a plastic tub attached to small rubber hose (same thing as airline hose) and they help to drain your tank when you take old water out of it during a water change.

What’s this cycle thing?

It’s the Nitrogen Cycle!

All fish produce waste. Because all aquatic animals produce waste, they require (biological) filtration of some sort to process that waste.

Fish produce waste in the form of ammonia. Ammonia is toxic above 0ppm (parts per million). So you’ve got all this ammonia floating around in the water, right? and you’ve got water running through your filter…so these bacteria start growing all over your fish tank, wherever there’s water flow, but we want to concentrate on the bacteria that are growing in your filter media. This bacteria will be processing the waste that your fish or aquatic animal produces :)

So your fish produced some waste, and it’s floating around in the water as ammonia. The first bacteria (#1) that grows will ‘eat’ the ammonia and then ‘poop’ out nitrites.

Nitrites are also toxic to aquatic animals above 0ppm though :/ so then another bactiera (#2) grows and it ‘eats’ these nitrites that are floating around in the water and ‘poops’ out nitrates.

Nitrates are safe for fish (up to 20ppm)! :D Since there’s no bacteria that’s going to grow to eat these nitrates that are in the water, we have to physically remove them by doing a water change. A helpful post about water changes, how they work!

If you have live plants, they will use some of the ammonia, nitrite, and/or nitrates in the water as nutrients :) Some plants will use more than others, as some plants are heavy root feeders, some are floaters, and some prefer to be somewhere in the water column. (note: live plants SHOULD NOT totally replace water changes! water changes are still necessary even for planted tanks :3)

To recap, “the cycle” aka “the nitrogen cycle” goes like this: Fish waste (ammonia) -> bacteria #1 -> nitrite -> bacteria #2 -> nitrate -> water change

Okay, so how do I make “the cycle” happen? How do I “cycle” my tank?

Note: knowing where you are in the nitrogen cycle (how much ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate is in the tank / being produced) requires a test kit.

Keep your water parameters .25ppm ammonia/.25ppm nitrites/20ppm nitrates or less :) In order to do this, you’ll have to do a ton of water changes, but your fish will thank you since ammonia and nitrite are toxic to fish! Bettas are pretty hardy, and one of the only fish that you can perform a fish-in cycle with, so just be sure to keep those parameters as low as possible until your readings are 0 ammonia/0 nitrite/ x nitrates (these are the parameter readings for a cycled tank). After that, make sure your nitrates stay 20ppm or below, doing a water change whenever they reach 20ppm or higher. Also note that it’s important to continue to test ammonia and nitrite levels even if your tank is cycled, since sometimes parameters spike or a cycle crashes, and you wont know unless you’re checking for that!

Okay, but what about water changes??

explains how to figure out how much water you need to change!

You should do a water change at least 1x a week! You need to remove at least 50% of the tank’s water 2-3x a week for now (if you have the 1 gallon tank), and when you upgrade you can do it 1x a week. After you get a test kit / can monitor your water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) you can figure out how much water to change and how often. You can remove the water via a cup (just scoop out the water) or a siphon (a ‘gravel vac’, tho most will be much too large for small tanks, airline tubing, a turkey baster, etc.). If you have a large container or totally clean (not used for chemicals, dirt, etc.) bucket then you can prepare your new water in that! add dechlorinator to the new water in the container, sitr well, then add it to the tank. make sure the temp matches. since you have no heater, let the water adjust to room temp (since the tank should also be room temp) by letting it sit out for a while before adding it to the tank. if you don’t have a container to make new water in, you should take out water from the tank, add dechlorinator to the tank, then add new water to the tank (preferably at room temp...as a sudden temperature fluctation can shock your betta. extreme temp shock will kind of paralyze your betta for a while so its important that the new water matches the tank temp within a few degrees). you can remove the fish if you’d like and then add him back after you’re done.

The order i think you should buy supplies in:

- water conditioner (you said you have some, but you wanted to get a better one) - 5+ gallon tank - filter - heater - thermometer (it’s pretty cheap, so you could probably buy it sooner rather than later) - decor (1+ hide, silk/live plants, substrate (sand, gravel, etc.)) - test kit - lid - water change bucket - light - quality food

why this order? - your fish will die without water conditioner. it removes chlorine (some also remove chloramines and heavy metals) from the water, and your fish cannot live in chlorinated water. - a bigger tank means that you can safely heat the tank. a bigger tank also means that waste will be more diluted so as long as you keep up with large weekly water changes (of 50%+) then you can hold off on the filter for a little while. - filter after getting a bigger tank, best to find a filter and start fish-in cycling the tank! - bettas need heat to regulate body temperature (like reptiles!) and it’s an important basic necessity - you should get a thermometer as soon as you get your heater. even if you get an adjustable heater (which should come with an internal thermostat, so it knows when to turn off/on and keeps the tank from being too cold/hot), the heater may be off by 1-2F, meaning that you could set it to 78 but the tank’s actual temp is 76. it’s just good to have and only 1-2$ so you could probably get it around the same time you get your heater. - bettas need cover to feel safe / not be stressed: another important part of your fish’s overall health and wellbeing! hides, decor, plants, etc. bettas love space but they dont necessarily like open space. there’s cheap diy decor links throughout this post and below! - if you’re doing large weekly water changes, your ‘water parameters’ should be okay, but knowing what those parameters are is still important! so definitely make plans to get a test kit :) - i dont think that jumping happens that often, so foregoing a lid for a bit and getting more important items first is okay imo...but its still an important precautionary item to have, so i recommend still getting one! - a water change bucket will make your life so. much. easier. about $3-5 at home depot or walmart. usually they’re 5.5 gallon buckets! - you can put the tank in a well-light place in the room (NOT in direct sunlight tho) and be okay! if you want to get a light so you can see the tank better, go for it :) - i think that buying good quality food (if you dont already have it...usually protein should be 38%+ and the first few ingredients shouldn’t be “__ meal”s but whole ingredients) comes last since if you’ve got your fish you’ve probably also already got food...so your fish has food and that’s already covered! upgrading the quality or adding variety can wait until you’ve got all the other bases covered :)

Supply Suggestions: - first off, i always recommend checking letgo, offerup, facebook marketplace, craigslist, and/or other local classifieds or ‘for sale’ sites! also check out any thrift stores like goodwill! you might find some of your equipment or decor at super low prices!! i’ve gotten all of my equipment either on sale or second hand so there’s absolutely no shame in hunting for second hand deals! - seachem prime water conditioner lasts foreeever (it’s highly concentrated so you only need a few drops per gallon! i use a pin to poke a hole in the seal of a new bottle instead of totally removing the seal so that i can count how many drops i need!) and will neutralize ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate for 24-48 hours in case of any parameter level spikes! if you can’t find prime, that’s okay! most liquid water conditioners will do just as well. i know that tetra makes some “betta+ water conditioner” or whatever but you don’t need a “betta-specific” water conditioner...most things labeled “for bettas!!!” are gimmicky and unnecessary and you can use the ‘regular’ product most likely :p - 10 gallon tank at petco, $10 - if space is an issue, consider a 12″ bubble bowl (3-5 gallons of water, depending on how much decor is in the bowl and how full of water it is). you can find them at some walmarts in the floral section and most hobby lobbys/michaels. at hobby lobby, you can present their 40% off coupon and it’ll probably be about $10 as well. a bubble bowl will probably not work with hang-on-back filter, tho, but they usually work great with sponge filters. - sponge filter from petsmart - sponge filter from amazon - pack of sponge filters from amazon - small hang-on-back (HOB) filter (azoo palm, also called azoo mignon) - thermometer - heater from amazon - terra cotta pot hide (craft section at walmart, $1 and no drainage hole which means your fish can’t get stuck in it! you don’t have to buy it at walmart, and it can have a drainage hole. just make sure the pot is actually terra cotta and not painted and if it has a hole, just bury the pot deeper into the substrate (gravel, sand, the stuff you’ve got on the bottom of the tank). - silk flowers from craft stores or the dollar store. hobby lobby gives a 40% off coupon and they’re always having sales on seasonal floral stuff so you could get a big bunch of silk greenery or stem(s) of silk flowers for cheap! - glassware hides (ceramic fully glazed/sealed mugs, glasses, glass bowls, glass mugs, etc.) can be found in your own kitchen or at local thrift stores, often for less than $1! if you need to disinfect something, DONT use soap, use hot water or hot water + vinegar instead! be sure to rinse extra well if using vinegar. - anacharis costs 2.99/bunch at petco. try to get the greenest looking one (sometimes the ends are or a stem or two is brown tbh but it gives new grown pretty fast!), and then prune / throw any any brown parts. if all of the edges of the leaves of a stem are brown, but the middle/stem is green, keep that stem til you see new stems branching off. when those new stems are 2+ inches, just snap them off and throw away the original stem. if the stem turns more brown and doesn’t give off new shoots, throw it away. if the stem is totally brown on one end but green on the other, cut off the brown part of the stem and keep the green. anacharis can be cut / snapped into pieces and then grow from the pieces! - craft mesh to make a lid with. i think it’s also called plastic craft canvas or something like that and you should be able to buy it at craft stores as well - you can also use craft mesh to make those betta hammocks i linked to in the ‘supplies list’s ‘decor’ section above. you cut out a strip and then tie the ends together with thread / fishing line or use zip ties. whatever you have available. - i gave lighting suggestions under the ‘supplies list’ section above

reason for my url: Pure Aesthetic (if Kayane wasn’t bound to Vesuvia, he’d absolutely be a wanderer, bouncing from place to place. but his parents wanted him to learn magic, and he was never stable enough to set forward on the road and be comfortable that he’d make it, so he stayed.)

okay but this is the thing, like this is what makes me so angry sitting here being like angry at how my fave baddies from legends of tomorrow basically have half of wards backstory each (and are way bigger fucking villains) but still end up being considered good guys on their fucking team like how does this happen? is it better writing? is it fandom being better? is it the fact that nobody killed a fucking dog

so for those of you that follow me for aos and dont know any lot (because its my new obsession) this will contain some lot spoilers

which is why its under a cut, also it got fucking long, if nobody reads this but chris i will still be content tho cause im upset

lets refresh what some brief bullet points we know about grant ward and how aos did him so dirty

has an abusive childhood (parents/older brother)

sets house on fire to try and kill his abusers fails and goes to juvie

gets busted out of juvie by hydra agent, gets dropped off in the woods, major gaslighting

may or may not have killed a dog

because hydra spy inside of shield

joins the team

caws fucks up aos plot reveals that he is hydra and kills hella people

drops fitz & simmons (cute nerdy scientists) into the ocean

gets captured by aos team, locked in glass box of doom

while depressed and in glass box told to kill himself by his romantic interest (for all of season one at least)

gets sold off to his abuser (older brother) - but then busts out and finally succeeds in kill his abuser (burns them alive)

hydra agents some more

dies

becomes possessed by alien demon thing

eventually gets blown the fuck up but was basically dead earlier and we just kept the actor around for some reason

(okay this is short but i tried to delete most of aos from my memory)

like - when we break this down as bullet points we can see this is shitty right?

now lets compare mick rory and leonard snart’s combined narratives from lot/the flash

(both) grow up in abusive house hold - abusive fathers in both cases i believe

(mick) has severely untreated pyromania, lights a fire in his house that gets out of control, and is so anxious about his family finding out that he doesnt tell them when he runs outside and they all burn alive

(mick is also briefly kidnapped by his future time traveling self right after this but we’ll assume he forgets this)

(len) is forced to commit crimes by his crooked cop father, eventually is forced to take the fall for one of them, and ends up in juvie

(both) meet in juvie, become bffs / partners for life / future husbands

commit a bunch of crimes together and basically just be hardcore criminals that break into places and steal things - oh and kill people, they def kill people

(also they basically raise len’s sister lisa during this time)

(len) steals/kills someone for a cold gun, so he can go from basic criminal to supervillian and fight the flash. literally kills hella people with the cold gun

mick gets the fire gun

mick also kills hella people

kidnaps cute scientist friend of hero caitlin snow and straps her to a bomb at one point just to be extra (tm) super villains

kidnaps cisco (the other nerdy science friend), forces him to make weapons, tortures cisco’s brother (like freezes his hands?!)

(len) eventually after his sister is threatened gets a chance to get back at his abuser and literally freezes his heart and kills him (in front of the fucking superhero)

and when superhero visits len in prison he is literally like “there’s good in you”

(both) get recruited to a time traveling team in which is basically a time captain, four superheroes, and these two villains

somehow this turns out to be the best found family combo in the fucking history of ever? like even tho they are baddies their bad skills are still put to use to help out with the mission and generally (at least len) is always considered to be part of the team in spite of the fact that they are super villains normally.

mick maybe sells them out to time pirates after their captain mentions that he was only brought along cause he and len are a packaged deal

len is forced to kill mick??? (or so we think for far too fucking long, even for someone just binge watching the series)

jk mick isnt dead he’s the bounty hunter working for their worst enemy (evil org) who has been hunting them since the pilot

as bounty hunter mick kidnaps len and is like “im gonna go back in time and kill your bby sister (aka the only person you love)” and like somehow in the span of this episode len is still like “dont kill him” to the rest of the team when he gets captured

gets put in glass box of doom on ship, and the team has like restorative convos with mick? wants to help him even tho he went evil and tried to destroy the team / threatened people that they cared about

mick is eventually given the chance to kinda heal and is brought back into the fold of the team and a full functioning member again even though he went extra bad for a bit there

one of them gets blown up and dies a fucking hero (also is probably not actually dead, but its been half a season and im not even fucking sure)

the other one is currently very depressed and not getting the treatment he needs for that, but ill fight those battles later.

so in summary for comparison

all three grew up in abusive households

mick and ward both burn their childhood homes down (but mick actually killed his family)

len & ward both have younger siblings they tried to protect from their abuser (but lisa actually likes len and theyre super close, where as you now aos....)

all three ended up in juvie (tho ward got broke out by garrett and that fucked him up good) (whereas mick & len meet to becomes criminal partners)

all three are bad guys (ward is a double agent) (while mick/len are major criminals and then super villains)

they all kill all kinds of people

they all hurt the fan favorite good guy scientist characters (mick & len with bombs and cold guns) (ward by dropping them into an ocean in a pod that shoulve floated) (i mean honestly like ward was the nicer one when you look at it like this)

all three kill their abusers (though micks was technically on accident)

all three get thrown in prison/glass boxes where their super counter parts come to see them (ward gets told to kill himself) (len gets told there’s still good in him) (mick gets help getting back to a stable mental state)

mick & ward both betray their found family team for their own person interests (and do get kinda shafted by this, like wards whole plot line vs mick’s time as a bounty hunter)

len & mick are both really bad guys that are given hero arcs (len is season one, mick in season one/two ish) and given a chance to redeem themselves while still being a-holes at times. (whereas ward gets murdered by his old team leader and gets possessed by an alien monster)

in LoT the character dies a hero. whereas in aos... you know how that goes

the thing that gets me is

the plot lines are so fucking similar

and like these characters have been around as minor characters/villains for two seasons of the flash, and then as main characters for a season and a half (so far) of legends of tomorrow

and the villain with an abusive childhood story line is just handled so much better over there. with the characters given chances to heal. rather than pushed off to the side and made worse and worse

and as someone who lived in an abusive household for far too long

getting to see the snarts story line (and mick’s too) is just such a relief after suffering through all that was aos okay

this is why im so angry.
