For my project I decided to explore the old story of Michael J. Moran aka The Blind Bard of The Liberties. Moran (ca. 1794 - 1846) was a blind street performer and poet from the Blackpitts in the Liberties. WB Yeats said Moran’s blindness allowed him to interact with the world in a special way: “free from the interruption of sight, his mind became a perfect echoing chamber, where every movement of the day and every change of public passion whispered itself into rhyme or quaint saying”. His songs often had religious themes and others were political or recounted current events. 

 By pairing his words with collages of modern day images of the Liberties I wanted to create a new life for Moran’s poems which have been otherwise lost in the current age. I hung them up in places which have been mentioned in his poems in the hopes that passer-by’s curiosity might be piqued and that a new generation of people in the Liberties could learn of his story.
