Can’t sleep, introducing y’all to one of my favorite new words I found while chewing on one of the books I borrowed
You’ve probably never heard of ‘Thinkin about the Beatles’ or ‘Pondering the Immortality Cycle Of The Crab’ or even ‘Sent my thoughts to sea’ before right now, and now you have, but toss em out, cos we got WOOLGATHERING now! Fuck coherent thoughts! Drift aimlessly and pluck wool from thorny brambles and splintery fence posts to trade for some eggs later !
[Also this is a sorta-excerpt from Agatha Christie’s “After The Funeral” and it’s been a pretty good one, though it’s not ranking among my favorites of Poirot mysteries 🤔]

Airplane mode is a feature on cell phones which disables many wireless connections including cellular service. These communication protocols can interfere with air traffic controllers so they are required to be disabled on airplanes. As such, phones offer an easy method to quickly enable and disable the restricted connections.
Airplane! was a 1980's disaster movie satire famous for rapid fire jokes. One common theme was having a character misinterpret other characters by being too literal or mishearing words, such as confusing the interjection 'Surely' with the vocative 'Shirley,' and evoking the phrase, 'Don't call me Shirley.'
The above joke conflates the two.
A denizen of the early twenty-first century would recognize Airplane Mode easily. Older members of the early twenty-first century are likely to have seen Airplane! (or at least be familiar with the jokes), to the point they would understand this reference.
The sky was looking ominous so I asked Siri, “Surely, it’s not going to rain today?”
And she replied, “Yes it is, and don’t call me Shirley.”
That was when I realized I’d left my phone on Airplane mode.

Rules for Portable Batteries on Planes Are Changing. Here’s What to Know.
The rules around flying with portable batteries are becoming increasingly confusing as some airlines in Asia change their policies, citing the risk of fires. Airplane Mode: What’s the Deal With That Little Toggle?
Hey there! Picture this: you’re about to take off on a flight, juggling your carry-on, and the flight attendant chirps over the speaker, “Please switch your devices to airplane mode.” You tap that little airplane icon, but have you ever wondered—what’s it actually doing? I mean, it’s 2025, planes are high-tech, and yet we’re still doing this? Let’s break it down like we’re chatting over…
