i hope we continue to see more protests within the US military. i see a lot of leftists and folks who are anti-military who have such an open disdain for the people who are in the military, yet neglect to considering the conditions this country makes to produce ideology, poverty, and the illusion of choice to make all kinds of people choose to enlist in the military. You ever see those videos of ROTC kids recording each other asking why they joined the military and everyone's like, "healthcare", "it helped me go to college", "I was bored" or "free ptsd lol". I hate to remind everyone but folks who are in the military are people, too, and they are the same victims and perpetrators of violence as the rest of you, we have all been shallowly conditioned to view each other as enemies just because one person is wearing army greens and the other is not.
some of the biggest anti-war advocates are those who engaged in war. Veterans who genuinely believed they were protecting the US against "terrorism" come back with blood on their hands, and they choose to realize that it was US imperialism that forced them to carry out violence, instead of doubling down and shielding themselves from the fact that they too are capable of atrocities... This is a class of people who are intentionally conditioned to be as poor and as ideologically aligned to US imperialism so that the military has a never-ending pool to send their youth to destroy other country's youth. The only people I have ever heard say "do not join the military" are those who ARE military.
This is in no way to ever excuse or explain away any of the atrocious war crimes and violence this industry and its people have committed against others. What I am saying is that we absolutely cannot cast aside the individuals who have been victimized within US imperialism, even if they are wearing army greens. I was speaking with my Palestinian classmate last week and another classmate--a member of the US air force-- walked up to me and struck up a conversation. My military classmate showed me her new bird, bid both of us goodbye, and left. My Palestinian classmate asked me if I was close with her, and I said we talked quite often, and she said, "I never met a person who's in the military. I still hate the military, but I never knew that they did, too. I didn't realize that they were also victims."
If my Palestinian classmate--one who is actively watching her own community die--can understand that it is not individuals who are the problem but it is in fact systems, US imperialism, white supremacy, capitalism...why can't we all? And she has EVERY reason to hate any individual military member. A lot of online activism just creates more barriers. if your optics look bad, complicated, or contradictory, you are cast aside. Everyone has got the be the perfect activist, you can never make a mistake or share a half-baked thought, you should always believe every word from a marginalized persons mouth (because being marginalized doesn't mean you're not entrenched in white supremacy too!) and you should never question what you see...Do you know what you sound like? The very imperialists who are convincing poor whites to vote against themselves. Perfectionism is white supremacy. Black & white thinking is white supremacy.
I'd rather have a military member who genuinely believed in the US imperialism machine but was disillusioned after being deployed as my comrade than some leftist who cherishes the performance of "being a good person". I don't want "good people" in our movements. I want humans who care. I want humans who make mistakes and who learn from them. I want humans who accept the messiness of a person. I want humans who hold others accountable and allow themselves to take responsibility for their actions. I want people who change for themselves and others.
fight systems, not individual people. we can change each other, but if we're too preoccupied looking like the World's Perfect Activists, we will only consume each other alive. Connect to your fellow humans, forever and always.
#muertotalks#a mind dump after seeing so much come out after the self immolation of the us air force member#i know hes not the first one to self immolate for palestine#and he might not be the last#i hate the military#i really fucking do#but i choose to see the people within them as victims within the overall system just like the rest of us#i will never go through what they did to make them choose to enlist#i never struggled with poverty homelessness healthcare or social acceptance#i wont shame them#shame is not productive#i want them to know there are civilians who support their protests#i want them to know that we their allies too#a note on my palestinian classmate#if youre arab or also a colonized person impacted by the us military feel free to hate every member of the military#i dont intend to police yall in how you choose to feel your anger#im angry with you#the point i mean to make is about understanding and compassion#someone who has every right to hate these people still chose to see them as the people they are#yes i even want the best for the “bad” people in the military too#i dont want these people to continue the ideology but we cant stop that without dismantling these systems#and we cant do that without creating spaces for healing and reform and growth#so many thoughts so many thoughts#none of this is easy#i fight daily against impulsively hating the world#everyday is a fight to choose compassion and understanding#but being a leftist and doing leftism is not fucking easy#if you genuinely think it is it isnt#and you may be missing the point of what leftism is#anyway

Is it a conspiracy theory (crack headcanon) to say that Freeze Force was probably the one taking out Burning Rescue members?
Like Kray tells Galo that he sent him to the division withe the highest casualty rate- which notably is NOT Freeze Force (not surprising, given the fact that they are largely shown going up against non-combative Burnish with excessive force), but rather Burning Rescue.
The team that Vulcan says uses "old tech," the team that is well known and loved throughout Promepolis, the team that DOESN'T HAVE COMBAT GEAR (and is not authorized to fight against Burnish)-
Also CONVIENTLY the team that all sees Burnish as humans-
You know, it's odd. Burning Rescue CERTAINLY does dangerous work... but the "highest casualty rate"... In addition to the way that Freeze Force treats ACTUAL (non-Burnish) civilians- with Vulcan trying to arrest Galo in the first scene, the way that he arrests Pizza Guy (Burnish) AND Pizza Owner (Non-Burnish), the very blatant criticization of the Police Force ("That's for the law to decide")
Not only was the Burning Rescue not invited on to or told about the migration, they show specific sympathy for the Burnish, and CONVIENTLY have the highest casualty rate despite Freeze Force- allegedly- being combatant (compared to Burning Rescue risking Freeze Force fury by engaing with Mad Burnish) in ADDITION to Freeze Force (and Kray Foresight) having no qualms putting innocent non-Burnish through the same treatment as Burnish (I.e. it's less a matter of anti-Burnish discrimination and more of a mass dehumanization moment)
Like... yeah, Burning Rescue does dangerous work. Yeah, it's understandable that Galo would get injured and come back. Possibly coincidental that Kray assigned Galo to the same division as Ignis (who has SOME clear history with Vulcan/Freeze Force), Aina (Heiris' younger sister), and an entire team of Burnish sympathizers (one of which (Varys) has a mutation of his own (super strength)), but at the same time there are a LOT of human rights violations (and police critique) both explicitly stated and heavily implied.
I'm just saying... Ignis knew how to deal with Vulcan rather well for that being a "first time" situation... Vulcan being all too happy to use his authority to arrest non-Burnish civilians... A non combative team somehow having the highest casualty rate...
#promare#I mean given the way that freeze force acts#and Kray's disposition#not to MENTION#Vulcan was shown TWICE arresting non-Burnish civilians#Galo and the Pizza Shop Owner#he throws around 'that's for the law to decide' both times- even though Ignis talks him down from arresting Galo#like that scene implies that's NOT the first time Vulcan tried to imprison a member of Burning Rescue#don't get me wrong#firefighting is a dangerous job#especially with sentient flames and crumbling eighteen story buildings and shit#BUT#there is so much that gets left up in the air#in terms of past Promare lore#and the way that Ignis and Vulcan interact#the way that the whole team is explictly shown sympathizing with and humanizing the Burnish#as well as how nervous they are when Freeze Force shows up#there HAS to be more between Burning Rescue and Freeze Force#especially Ignis and Vulcan#'that's for the law/court to decide' carries SO much unexplored weight#I want sit one on one with every person who had anything to do with Promare lore and play word games with them SO bad

Wouldnt it be so epic to have Tanimura play a role in Judgement 3??
Like he's Kaito's age, he used to be (is?) a police detective, he has a strong sense of justice AND mysterious circumstances (where tf did he go after Y4).
Just Tanimura is so babygirl and I want him back </3
I feel like he might mesh well with the Judge Eyes gang considering his sense of justice and willingness to participate in less than legal activities so ye
Theres also a good thematic to explore about the power and dangerous misuse of power in the context of the police force and whether the system can be fixed
#like according to the wiki some civilians discuss a cop that might be Tanimura who was dragged out of the force#so that would mean that tani could work as a PI too and that would open doors to cooperation#since dead souls isnt exactly canon for the main storyline tho he could still be a cop#which would also work since he could be an izumida for the police force#like izumida works together with yagami in the end for justice against the stance of the chief prosecutor#and tani could work with yagami to f ex expose corruption in the police force#Just AKCJSNCJA I finished y4 and i am now fascinated with this little fucker#i cant draw him for shit tho hes so pretty but my attempts all look so off QAQ#yakuza#rgg#yakuza 4#masayoshi tanimura#judgment#judge eyes#kaito masaharu#yagami takayuki#i know that narimiya (the actor) is retired from showbiz because showbiz and tabloids is terrible and good for him!#like whether he did drugs or not he didnt deserve that to be aired to the public and he didnt deserve to be fucked over like that#but they already adapted the model for the remastered version so just take that and base the dragon engine model off of that#and get masuda to come back as the voice actor

just spent like 2 hours reading through a bunch of alternate history threads focused on syria. surprisingly interesting
#just A Tad Annoying that people think the battle of maysalun was our only defense against the french though#the revolt lasted months & maysalun was arguably the weakest least significant part of it compared to everything else we did.#hananu revolt and alawite revolt were the most important parts and the ones that held out the longest (MONTHS. compared to maysalun's#mere few hours) with militias & armies made up of mere civilians fighting against All of france's efforts to oppress them (including tanks#the air force threats against civilians & murder of them etc). i wish everyone there a very Please Read Up More About Our History#maysalun is still revered in syria and the arab world (& for good reason) don't get me wrong but we did do more than that#otherwise it did make me mourn the king-crane commission yet again. never going to not be wrecked over that i think

Exclusive footage obtained by Al-Jazeera showed Israeli special forces using an aid truck and a civilian car to carry out the operation. A US special “hostage cell” played a crucial role in the rescue of four Israeli captives, the American news website Axios reported on Saturday, citing a US administration official. Meanwhile, exclusive footage obtained by Al-Jazeera showed Israeli special forces using an aid truck and a civilian car to carry out the operation. The images depict civilian cars escorted by Israeli military tanks penetrating the western areas of the Nuseirat camp, amid a series of unprecedented air raids targeting the camp and various central Gaza Strip areas, resulting in over 200 Palestinian deaths and dozens of injuries so far. The Popular Resistance Committees in Gaza issued a statement, condemning the “horrific massacre committed by the zionist enemy through its planes, warships, tanks, and special forces in the Nuseirat camp”. “The massacre in the Nusseirat camp clearly and unequivocally reveals and confirms the participation of American enemy forces stationed on the floating dock in killing and slaughtering our people,” the statement continued adding that this happened “despite the criminal American administration’s assertion that this dock’s purpose is solely to pump humanitarian aid”.

A civilian U.S. Air Force employee has been charged with disclosing classified defense information to a woman he met on a foreign online dating platform, the Justice Department said on Monday. David Franklin Slater, 63, was taken into custody in Nebraska on Friday on a three-count federal indictment. He was expected to make an initial court appearance on Tuesday.
The indictment accuses Slater of giving classified material by email and online messages about the Russia-Ukraine war to someone claiming to be a woman living in Ukraine.

"Hannibal at Erez, dispatch a Zik [attack drone]," came the command on October 7.
Those words, reported by Israeli newspaper Haaretz in July, confirm what many Israelis have feared since the Hamas attacks on October 7 in southern Israel.
Israeli forces have killed their own citizens.
[...]
In July, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed commanders in the IDF gave the order to fire on troops who had been captured by Hamas at three separate locations, explicitly referencing the Hannibal Directive.
One former Israeli officer, Air Force Colonel Nof Erez, told a Haaretz podcast the directive was not specifically ordered but was "apparently applied" by responding aircrews.
Panicked, operating without their normal command structure and unable to coordinate with ground forces, they fired on vehicles returning to Gaza, knowing they were likely carrying hostages.
"This was a mass Hannibal. It was tons and tons of openings in the fence, and thousands of people in every type of vehicle, some with hostages and some without," Colonel Erez said.
Air force pilots described to Yedioth Ahronot newspaper the firing of "tremendous" amounts of ammunition on October 7 at people attempting to cross the border between Gaza and Israel.
"Twenty-eight fighter helicopters shot over the course of the day all of the ammunition in their bellies, in renewed runs to rearm. We are talking about hundreds of 30-millimetre cannon mortars and Hellfire missiles," reporter Yoav Zeitoun said.
[...]
Bergman's investigation found 70 vehicles were destroyed by Israeli aircraft and tanks to prevent them being driven into Gaza, killing everyone inside.
"It is not clear at this point how many of the abductees were killed due to the activation of this [Hannibal] order on October 7," he wrote.

hm. actually i think that i will not be on social media for the foreseeable future.
#constantly thinking abt the tweet thats like#i shudder to think abt how some of u wouldve reacted to the haitian revolution#murder of civilians is bad!! why is this only discussed when colonized ppl fight back and never#within the context of the actual colonization open air prison and apartheid conditions#the murders of children and journalists and other civilians is inexcusable. so lets think abt how the average age in gaza is 18.#i dont have any solutions to offer but like. wow there's some super dehumanizing shit going on#'70 killed in israel 198 dead in gaza' is literally a headline i saw today. israelis are killed palestinians just magically drop dead ig#thousands of palestinians have been murdered senselessly. that is ALSO evil like how can you not see that the conditions created set this u#said conditions created by european nations who were like yeah best option to deal w jewish refugees? colonization.#i thoroughly condemn hurting civilians. which means i thoroughly condemn israel for their actions since the beginning#AND i condemn hamas' attacks on civilians. bc you can do both! but ppl dont see palestinians as ppl so violence against them is w/e ig#like how can you watch the videos of palestinians being violently thrown out of their homes from like. 2019. and think 'yeah this is fine'#i just dont get it. how do u see a military that killed 220 ppl. shot 8k. injured 36k. when they did an UNARMED PROTEST. as THE victim here#analysis of the causes of things is not justification btw. i think terrorism is bad. but this didnt happen in a fucking vacuum#putting 2mil ppl in an openair prison after forcing them out of their homes. constant news stories abt killing children nurses + journalist#reducing their quality of life. pouring CEMENT IN THEIR DRINKING WATER???? is fucking evil shit

The state of affairs in Palestine
EDIT: This post is now more than a week old. Updated post here.
Israel has ordered an evacuation of northern Gaza over 24 hours. This order affects 1.1 million people. The UN believes this is completely impossible.
Israel's president has said that civilians in Gaza are complicit in Hamas' attacks.
Reminder that around 40% of Gaza's population is 14 or younger.
Egypt has closed its border to Gaza refugees.
The US state department has asked diplomats to avoid talking about ceasefires, deescalation, or an end to violence.
The Israeli Air Force claims to have already dropped around 6000 bombs on Gaza in the past week.
For context on that last stat: when the US destroyed Mosul (in a rapid intensification of its air war) it dropped around 500 bombs a week.
More than three quarters of Israelis blame the Israeli government for the attack and ensuing war, and more than half believe Netanyahu must be removed from power.

"Blackout Effective," Brantford Expositor. May 27, 1942. Page 6. ---- Lone Bomber Was Soon Spotted in Chicoutimi Area ---- CHICOUTIMI, Que., May 27- (CF) - Air raid precaution officials decided today that the lone bomber that flew over the Chicoutimi and Lake St. John districts by mistake last night had furnished proof of the efficiency of plane spotting and raid precaution work in area. The plane, described later as an R.C.A.F. bomber "slightly off course", brought two alerts to Chicoutimi, and a blackout over the entire Lake St. John area. What interested officials was that the "invader" was spotted in remote, heavily wooded areas beyond the town, and its course traced in successive reports from ground watchers until it passed over Chicoutimi. The plane was first reported by a paper company air raid warden over Lake Oantcheway, 40 miles From Chicoutimi. Twenty minutes later it was reported over Ile Maligne, flying without lights at 2,000 feet. Within a few minutes of the second report, the blackout was or- dered. and Chicoutimi, Arvida, Shipshaw, Jonquiere, Kenogami, St. Anne, Rivere-Du-Moulin and Bale Des Ha-Ha were plunged into darkness. The Chicoutimi radio station broadcast an alert and then went off the air. The alert in Chicoutimi lasted an hour, and was lifted at 11 p.m. Alarms sounded again half an hour later, but the second alert was of short duration. Civilian Protection Committee workers remained at their stations in every town and village in the district until the official announcement shortly before midnight that the plane was friendly.

Yahya Sinwar died in open combat, wearing a kuffiyeh, calm and straight-backed, fighting to the last for his people. His comrades dead, his arm blown off, out of ammo, he still forced his pursuers to retreat. They had to send one of the drones they use to murder unarmed civilians to kill him, operated by a Zionist sitting in cushioned comfort and safety. And he still nearly took it out with a piece of debris.
The worms released footage of his final moments that contradicted every last bit of propaganda they used to smear him. They spent over a year razing a defenceless city with the most cutting edge death technology funnelled to them by US tax dollars and not only have they failed to defeat men with homemade bombs and makeshift weapons but they have succeeded in creating a legend of their leader. A thousand Sinwars will rise where one has fallen. The occupation will never know a day without terror and loss and death; they will forever continue to be the most reviled people on the face of the earth, alongside the Nazis whose models they adopted as their own. Netanyahu, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Ursula von der Leyen, Keir Starmer, and every single other putrid wastes of human flesh that aided and abetted this, one of the worst atrocities of the 21st century, will die in lonely terror seeing the demons come to drag their souls to hell. They will burn and burn and burn screaming for eternity.
Anyone who thinks this will stop the Zionists' genocide of Gaza is an imbecile who's been paying no attention. But no matter what they do, they will never kill Palestine. The Zionist occupation will never be anything but canon fodder for the most evil empire to ever exist. They will never belong in any part of the Levant. The very earth will revile them, the very rain will burn them, the very sea will swallow them, the very air will poison them. Every last Zionist will be erased from the face of the earth one day and their names from history. And the children of Palestine will play and laugh fearless in the olive groves, under the open sky.
Glory to the resistance. Glory to the martyrs. From river to the sea, Palestine will be free.
