My sister had been watching spy x family in english dub in netflix. For like, one whole season, I can't put a finger on it why the vocabulary is kinda off, and the way they speak is not akin to native english speakers. I can't describe it, but it feels as if a pinoy was made to speak in english, or was reading English from a book (minus the hard Ts and Rs).

But I managed to watch through the season, because it kinda grew on me.

Fast forward to now, I watched a clip on tiktok, that part where the forger family is getting interviewed. I was thrown off because the voice was different, and the way anya said "mommy" instead of "mother" in netflix.

Turns out, there was a different eng dub done in the SEA region, like a localized english dub. The studio behind it was a Filipino one! So I was right all along. I was hearing my people

I'm thinking the Filipino dub also were the ones who did the English ones.

I know I'm like a year late but 💀 I was scratching my head because none of those voices sound familiar

this is a lighthearted little informational about parasomnias (disruptive sleep-related disorders) that happen when you're falling asleep/waking up. because some of the tags on my exploding head syndrome poll are blowing my mind. more than the ehs does. i am not a doctor i am just parasomnias georg.

hypnagogic/hypnapompic hallucinations are hallucinations that happen when you're falling asleep/waking up. they can be visual, tactile, or auditory. i most often experience auditory hallucinations, and i hear footsteps and indistinct voices. a lot of people hear someone calling their name. when i was little, i had tactile hallucinations that felt like someone was touching/holding my hand. 70% of people experience hypnic hallucinations at least once, plenty of people experience them regularly, and they're completely harmless and they're also not a warning sign that you have or will develop any mental illnesses that involve hallucinations/psychosis.

hypnic jerks are that falling sensation you get as you're falling asleep. we know this one. it's harmless.

exploding head syndrome (or episodic sensory cranial shocks, which doesn't sound any better) happens when you hear a very loud sound (banging, crashing, gunshots, etc) as you're falling asleep/waking up. some people also experience visual/sensory effects (flashing lights or a popping sensation) with it. they're uncommon but once again, completely harmless despite the whole "feels like brain exploded" thing. ive recently learned that a lot of people only hear a sound/see lights and don't have a corresponding popping sensation in their head, which i am jealous of.

ehs is not the same as hypnic hallucinations - hypnic hallucinations can absolutely be startling/scary, but they don't have a jumpscare factor. if you hear someone whisper your name and it kind of wakes you up, that's a hypnic hallucination. if you hear someone scream your name and it makes you startle awake kind of like you would with a hypnic jerk, that's ehs.

hypnic hallucinations, hypnic jerks, and ehs are all exacerbated by stress, a lack of sleep, and medication use. i 100% have them more often when i'm stressed/overtired, and fairly recently i managed to triple-threat myself by starting a new medication and had like ten instances of hypnic jerks/ehs in one night. but that's okay! the brain does weird things when you're stressed and tired, and it often continues to do weird things even when you're not stressed and/or tired just because that in-between sleep/wake state is a weird liminal zone for your brain and sometimes it sets off the wrong signals. they're not a sign of underlying mental or physical illnesses! of course talk to a doc if your symptoms are concerning or getting in the way of sleeping, but. yeah. it's all good!

okay so trans storytime with s! this one has a happy ending :)

it's october 2021. i have known i was not cisgender for about a year. i've been out as genderqueer for a couple months. due to the previously discussed "men are evil" shit i'd internalized, i am firmly in denial about the fact that i'm a guy even though it's pretty fucking obvious i'm male.

so, i'm at homecoming with my friends, we're vibing, and one friend decides she wants to take photos. we take one photo as a group, then she takes one of the boys, then says we should take one photo of the girls. then she looks over at me in my short-hair-suit-and-tie glory and goes "well, girls and s!"

i appreciate that she's not calling me a girl, but something feels more uncomfortable than if i'd just been left out of the picture altogether. if i had to do gendered photos, i think i would have rather been grouped with the boys. i don't know how to say any of this. i take the girls-and-s photo and wish i had the balls (pun intended) to be in the boys' photo.

somehow i don't recognize this as a sign that perhaps i am a boy.

fast forward to august 2023. i'm at camp and we're having a dance. my group of friends taking photos. after we do one photo all together, the rest of the group splits up by gender. this time, i decide to join in the boys' photo, no one says anything weird, i look great, and now it's one of my favorite pictures. gender wins.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THAT DOES HAVE A HAPPY ENDING!! GENDER DOES WIN!!! that's super duper awesome growth in terms of trans acceptance, vv proud :DD

I Really Like Nathaniel because the guy embodies Hope and Positivity without forcing it down the gullets of everyone around him.

Sera isn't grumpy so much as she is disinterested and dismissive. She heads to work without bothering to make small talk besides a basic "Hello." if she passes you by. Not the worst outcome, really, if silence doesn't bother you.

My bridal shower was today and it was so fun. Also we got a lot of cute stuff for our place now! and a new vacuum. Like wow todays been good. I have a new desk chair coming today as well, which I am pumpbed about. My current one is so so bad. N e ways, I slept maybe an hour last night. So it is now naptime.
