the 11 secret ocs that live in my notes app, part 1
Mannat Ahuja, the Ambitious Cartographer. Benthic scholar who also serves as Alexandria’s usual navigator in both the zee and the air, and is trying to map the Cave of the Nadir.
Stephano D’Amore, the Jaded Marksman. Tomb-colonist, champion of Feducci’s fighting rings and sort of his ex (don’t worry about it), master of arms on the Orphean (Amelia’s ship) and master gunner of the Eurydice (Amelia and Alexandria’s airship).

That sounds terrible! The idea of having to be stuck in one set of jobs and such for your whole life, just because of what family you're born into.
To be honest, I don't know much about my family history beyond my grandparents. All I know is that my dad's home village is mostly underwater (around the 1970s, so he had to move to Karachi as a kid), and both of my grandparents were in the army for a while? And considering how the last names vary weirdly in the family, I don't even know how my paternal grandpa got his last name. It's always been this thing that nobody bothered to explain.
Anyway, thank you so much for these resources! Screw the caste system!
mostly underwater. surely you jest

The one thing I really liked in Class was the acknowledgement of Veer's violence being a factor which drove away Saba and to an extent also the others. Guzman in its Spanish counterpart has also his violent outbursts but it is never acknowledged that openly. Also I liked the subtle hints throughout the show how again class difference played such an imp role as in he could always escape the consequences of his violence whereas others could not. This is also the point I feel where instead of going with the track of a creep releasing videos of Suhani they could've gone slightly with a more blameless victim as in Elite. Because again I felt he was a tad bit justified in the beating and thus it makes a lesser sense that Saba is afraid of his violence when it was kinda justified?? Nevertheless I liked that his violent and entitled behaviour was addressed which I think Elite quite ignored.

This wardrobe choice is so, so interesting to me because we always see Veer wear solid colors or bomber jackets - this is probably the first time there’s a print on his clothes and the choice is no coincidence - it’s so telling in terms of where his story is headed. The Manzoors may be trying to hide their identity as Kashmiris - something Veer found out about but kept it to himself (which, in itself is a HUGE deal, considering who he is at this point in the story) - but Veer’s new identity is forging around this Kashmiri girl he’s fallen in love with. Kind of in our face symbolism tbh but it’s so beautiful too? Something the Manzoors are so adamant to hide, he’s wearing it on his chest like a medal of honor.

You also do what your father says, right?
No. Otherwise, I wouldn't be standing here.

The Biden administration is planning to prohibit the use of salary history when hiring for federal employee roles, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) will announce later Wednesday.
The OPM is set to release proposed regulations that will ban federal agencies from considering an applicant’s nonfederal salary history when setting pay for new federal employees. The proposed regulations are part of the administration’s efforts to advance pay equity and be a model employer for the rest of the United States.
“Relying on a candidate’s previous salary history can disproportionally impact women and members of other underserved communities. With these proposed regulations, the federal government is leading the way and demonstrating to the nation that we mean business when it comes to equality, fairness, and attracting the best talent,” OPM Director Kiran Ahuja said in a statement.
Twenty-one states have laws or executive orders limiting employers from using applicants’ salary history, and some states fully prohibit it. Department of Labor data found in places that have salary history bans, minority workers who changed jobs saw a 7.9% increase in their wages.
President Biden in his fiscal 2024 budget proposed a 5.2% average pay raise for federal employees and military personnel. The pay raise in the budget, announced in March, would be an increase from the 4.6% pay raise federal employees received this year.
