Silage is a type of fodder made from green foliage crops which have been preserved by acidification, achieved through fermentation. It can be fed to cattle, sheep and other such ruminants (cud-chewing animals).  The fermentation and storage process is called ensilage, ensiling or silaging, and is usually made from grass crops, including maize, sorghum or other cereals, using the entire green plant (not just the grain). Silage can be made from many field crops, and special terms may be used depending on type: oatlage for oats, haylage for alfalfa (haylage may also refer to high dry matter silage made from hay). Silage can be made by one or more of the following methods: placing cut green vegetation in a silo or pit; piling the vegetation in a large heap and compressing it down so as to purge as much oxygen as possible, then covering it with a plastic sheet; or by wrapping large round bales tightly in plastic film. The crops most often used for ensilage are the ordinary grasses, clovers, alfalfa, vetches, oats, rye and maize.Silage must be made from plant material with a suitable moisture content: about 50% to 60% depending on the means of storage, the degree of compression, and the amount of water that will be lost in storage, but not exceeding 75%. Weather during harvest need not be as fair and dry as when harvesting for drying.  . . . . #plant_world #scientists #experiments #crop #livestock #management #agventure007 (at Indian Veterinary Research Institute) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHStwxEnAqv/?igshid=y8yspspehweh

The yellow colour of the onion(Allium cepa) is due to the presence of anthocyanins and anthoxanthins which belong to the class of Flavonoids. Anthocyanins impart orange, yellow or purple colouration while anthoxanthins impart pale yellow or white colour. These pigments are present in the cell sap and are water soluble. These pigments change their colour with the pH of the medium. Cooking vegetables and fruits brings about many changes in their texture, colouration and flavour Frying the materials using oil makes them undergo certain chemical changes such as caramelisation (conversion of sugars to carbon, water), Maillard reaction (reaction of aminoacids and reducing sugars bringing about suitable flavour) that result in the browning of the food material and also imparting characteristic flavour due to the release of certain chemicals such as diacetyl. . . . #agriculture #horticulture #vegetablescience #plant_world #biodiversity #botany #nature #naturalphotography #fruit #food #study #global #nutrition #healthy #eat #production #agventure007 #agriculturist #harvest #icar (at Mahendergarh, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFjLWLcnVmu/?igshid=1upoi2di2eump

Soil porosity is a measure of amount of spaces or pores in soil that can be filled with either air or water. Clayey soils have higher porosity & can hold more water so therefore they are sticky and plastice like to handle when wet. They have low permeability as the pores are small. Porosity of soil can be improved by microorganisms. . . . #agriculture #agriculturestudent #agricultureglobal #agriculturefacts #farm #farmer #farmers #agronomy #soilhealth #soilscience #organisms #fauna #insect #habitat #topography #nature #soils #agventure007 #icar (at Central Soil Salinity Research Institute) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFRKbdgnWUa/?igshid=99gbecfrrrr1

Karnal bunt (also known as partial bunt) is a fungal disease of wheat, durum wheat, triticale and rye. Despite its preference for a common crop, Karnal bunt can be extremely difficult to diagnose in the field for many reasons. This distribution is the reason for Karnal bunt's being referred to as partial bunt. Another factor which makes Karnal bunt difficult to readily diagnose in the field is the fact that most infected kernels do not show symptoms prior to maturity. The disease produces dark color and a fishy smell on infected kernels.  The disease is primarily spread through contaminated seed or farm equipment, although it may also be carried short distances by the wind, especially following the burning of wheat fields. . . . #crop #pathology #agronomy #disease #management #agventure007 #icar (at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University) https://www.instagram.com/p/CG-Wk22nxmr/?igshid=1mhhlu53no9qi

The cotton fibre is a tubular outgrowth of an epidermal cell of the cotton seed. The long outgrowth is known as staple or lint. It has a four‐layered cell wall: the cuticle, the primary wall and the secondary wall, the first layer of which has recently been distinguished from subsequent layers as ‘the winding’. A fifth layer, bordering the lumen, may possibly be differentiated. The cuticle is usually a characteristic of cells which are exposed to air during some stage of their life cycle; in the cotton fibre it is a mixture of fats, waxes and resins which are released at the surface of the cell during maturation.  . . . #fibre #industry #crop #production #agventure007 #agriculturist #harvest (at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGKZEJmnf9G/?igshid=j7qambpdld1r

Lathyrism is caused by excessive dietary consumption of peas of the Lathyrus family especially Lathyrus sativusThe cause is β-N-oxalylamino-L-alanine (BOAA), a neurotoxic amino acid, considered the neurotoxin responsible for the spastic paraparesis of human lathyrism. Lathyrism begins after weeks or months of consumption of the peas and usually occurs in a setting of protein-calorie malnutrition. . . . #agronomy #crop #production #agventure007 #agriculturist #harvest #food #nutrition (at G. Textiles made from flax are known in Western countries as linen, and are traditionally used for bed sheets, underclothes, and table linen. Its oil is known as linseed oil. In addition to referring to the plant itself, the word "flax" may refer to the unspun fibers of the flax plant. The plant species is known only as a cultivated plant and appears to have been domesticated just once from the wild species Linum bienne, called pale flax. . . . #agriculture #agriculturist #agricultureglobal #agri #agronomy #flowering plants #plant_world #biodiversity #botany #nature #naturalphotography #india #indianagriculture #crop #production #agventure007 #oilseed #fibre #industry #icarindia (at Forest Research Institute Dehradun) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFuB6T-nDMV/?igshid=fapvt7ztib6r
