Do you see my vision? Not just chosen children, but chosen Navis too!

I don't have too much of a plot yet, but, in typical Digimon fashion, a group of kids (Lan, Maylu, Dex, Yai and Chaud) get pulled into the Digital World against their will to save it. The difference this time is that they already have digital companions who get some major reformatting when entering the Digital World! The PETs get turned into Digi-PETs, but still have the ability to upload Battle Chips to give the Navis-turned-mons special attacks, kinda like the cards in Tamers. I haven't designed Digi-fakes before, but I do know I want the Navi-mons to get unique new evolutions despite their rookie forms being pretty normal.

I do have some reason when choosing the Digimon forms, (despite my Ghost Game bias...)

Megaman is a Gammamon because it has multiple evolution branches, including a dark form, much like Megman. Very simple explanation.

Roll is a Cutemon because it is a bunny, and is pink, and is cute. End of story. (I didn't want to use Lopmon because it wouldn't make sense without Terriermon.)

Gutsman is a Sunarizamon because I liked how bulky and ground-based it is. It also wasn't a partner Digimon, to the best of my knowledge, and I was trying for a bit of variety.

Glide is an Agoramon because I think it would be funny to have instead of a fluffy bunny knight, to have a fluffy bunny butler. Angoramon can also fly, and is big enough to carry people, which I think Yai would use to her advantage.

Protoman is a Gaomon because Saver's Gaomon won me over with his 'sir yes, sir!/yes, master!'s. (I had to doodle my point which is why ProtoGaomon gets a whole page to himself.)

In your Digimon season ranking post, you describe Ghost Game as unusual in explicitly pushing digimon/human ships, and while you're right that it's not common, I do have to point out that going this hard on it isn't without precedent. Ruki very much did confess to Renamon on-screen. That is very much a thing that happened.

Sorry I did not get around to answering this before. Kinda a lot going on over here.

Now let me say first: I am totally fine with the ship. So please do not take this as any bashing of the shipping. I can absolutely see where people are coming from with them.

But what was the intended reading for Ruki and Renamon was actually the relationship between sisters. The Japanese text in their case "-suki" can very well be a familiar or friendship version of like.

Ruki's entire arc - though Konaka himself says he did not realize it back when he was writing it, only when he revisited the story later - kinda revolves around her finding a version of feminity she was comfortable with and, for the lack of a better term, a female role model she could identify with. Because her mother is too young (Ruki is the result of a teen pregnancy after all), while her grandmother has never quite taken over the maternal role either. And Ruki could not identify with either their versions of feminity. Hence... Renamon. There is a reason that Renamon's feminity (despite being a sexless being) is called out so often.

Fun fact: This entire story is why I really do not like all those interpretations that have adult Ruki as this ass-kicking tomboy, because it kinda negates her entire journey. And yes, this very much includes the stuff from the later audio dramas as well. Like, I know Konaka was not in a mentally good place when he wrote them. I get that. I sure hope he is doing better by now. But at times those dramas go after what he himself prior said about what the characters were about.

Eh, I got distracted. Point is. Ghost Game was interesting in very outright coding the relationships between both Jellymon and Kiyoshiro - and especially Ruli and Angoramon as explicitly romantic, with them not only using romantic language, but also that romantic imagery (especially with that Agoramon and the werewolf story).

Digimon in general definitely had stories before - both played straight and for laughs - that could be read as Digimon/Human Romance... But never this explicitly.

Other monster-franchises have been more straight forward with that kinda stuff. Though none quite as far as Z/X with the entire Sieger/Ayase story. (But obviously I feel at times as if I have halucinated Z/X existing, because nobody seems to even fucking know that franchise.)

The temperature quickly drops, from negative 19 degrees to negative 21 degrees celsius. Kiyoshiro grits his teeth, knowing they're all about to freeze to death. Hiro is sitting with his arms wrapped around his knees, trying to keep warm, but his eyes are unfocused. At his side, BetelGammamon says his name to get his attention and Hiro looks up at him.

Stammering because of the cold but trying to stay strong, BetelGammamon says "I-it's pretty cold... I can't..." He turns back into Gammamon and collapses, muttering "Hiro..."

Hiro watches horrified, but too frozen to do anything. He looks blearily at Gammamon lying there unconcious, and mutters "G-Gamma..." before falling off his chair and passing out himself. In the foreground, Angoramon also collapses as he desperately mutters "Ruri..."

Kiyoshiro weakly mutters "I guess this is it..." and ducks his head down. TeslaJellymon gasps "Darling!" and comes close to check on him. Kiyoshiro notices that she's alert and not freezing to death, and mutters "I-It seems like you're okay." TeslaJellymon smiles and explains "I've been warming my body with my electric shock. Sorry it's only for me." Her body is continuously sparking with electricity.

Kiyoshiro says "I-I see... I'm glad." Nervously and seeming to just now grasp the situation, TeslaJellymon asks "Darling?" Kiyoshiro says "TeslaJellymon-sama... If you can, please save Tsukiyono-san..." and then passes out. Concerned, TeslaJellymon screams "Darling!"

TeslaJellymon steps back, whispering "Darling" sadly. She glances at Hiro, Gammamon, and Agoramon, who are all still unconcious. She frowns and her ears droop as she realizes she's the only one left. End ID]
