TODAY - Sunday make sure to LOOK UP!!!!! This 4th of July weekend we are taking over skies!!! Project by @inplainsightmap 80 artists have joined together to launch @inplainsightmap – a stunning effort to make visible the injustices of the largest immigration detention system in the world. In Plain Sight's collective of artists – representing an array of ages, gender presentations and subjective lived experiences that have come together in solidarity to help abolish immigrant detention. ICE detention is the practice of incarcerating immigrants—from those who have just arrived to those who’ve lived in the U.S. for years— while they await a determination of their status or potential deportation. Various reports detail horrifying conditions. The federal government wastes more than $25 billion each year on ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to profile, detain and deport immigrants. Fairness, freedom, opportunity, and respect for human rights should be at the core of our immigration system. YOU CAN HELP END IMMIGRANT DETENTION *Join* the movement #FreeThemAll Campaign + #AbolishIce. *Donate* to these local bond funds: https://linktr.ee/InPlainSight (link in bio) *Get to know* organizations that serve the immigrant community including: @migrantfreedom @detentionwatch @aclu_socal @haitianbridge @conmijente @familiatqlm @maketheroadnj @maketheroadny @raicestexas @carecen_la @the_ilrc @clinica_romero @laresistencianw @daylaborernetwork @elrescate_org @_salef @ciyja @glahr.ga @tsuruforsolidarity @ic4ij @puente.az @CEDIMAC1 @MexenEx @translatinacoalition #mayavision #thetornillocollective #centralamericanresearchpolicyinstitute Thank you to our supporters @moca, #AgnesGund, @WarholFoundation, @ForFreedoms, #GoodWorksFoundation, #LauraDonnelly, #TheHillenburgFamily, InColor_, @KruppFamilyFoundation.org, @theMapFund, @OxyArts, #TaskForce, @WilhelmFamilyFoundation, #WandaKownacki [First slide : #Art by @juliosalgado83 ] #InPlainSight #XMAP #LookUp #FreeThemAll #AbolishICE #DefundHate #HomeisHere #migration #migrant #undocumented #migrantjustice https://www.instagram.com/p/CCL4nMBFkde/?igshid=1o8a0x51blv2d

Thank you Agnes Gund. People like you, who use your resources to make the world a better place, should be applauded everyday. I made this portrait of Agnes at her home in 2005. She stands in front of the Roy Lichtenstein (titled Masterpiece) painting which she recently sold for 165 million dollars to raise money and start a fund that supports criminal justice reform. She is also urging other art collectors to sell work that will also support the new Art for Justice Fund, a movement to end mass incarceration. The efforts will aim to cut prison populations and strengthen programs to help people when they leave prison. #amazingwoman #agnesgund #ArtForJustice

🎨👏❤ #ArtIsAWeapon Kudos to philanthropist and arts patron/advocate Agnes Gund, whose generosity and vision has established the recently- launched @fordfoundation's Art For Justice Fund (www.artforjusticefund.org) to reform the criminal justice system and end mass incarceration. Ms. Gund donated $100 million of the proceeds from the sale of Roy Lichtenstein's “Masterpiece” pop-art painting from her personal collection. “Collectors have always understood the transformative power of art. The Art for Justice Fund gives us an opportunity to use specific works to improve lives and drive social change." - #AgnesGund The Fund will support organizations dedicated to addressing mass incarceration and criminal justice reform across the country.
